The tricobalt cluster PhCCo₃(CO)₉ (1) reacts with the bidentate phosphine ligand 2,3-bis(diphenylphosphino)maleic thioanhydride (bta) with added Me₃NO to yield PhCCo₃(CO)₇(bta) (2), which upon heating overnight yields Co₃(CO)₆(μ₂-η²,η¹-C(Ph)C=C(PPH₂)C(O)SC(O)) (μ₂-PPh₂) (3). Cluster (3) has been isolated and characterized by FT-IR and ³¹P NMR spectroscopy. Structural determination of the cluster has been demonstrated by X-ray diffraction analysis. This thesis devoted to the experimental studies of yellow and blue luminescence (YL and BL relatively) bands in Gallium Nitride samples doped with C and Si. The band BLC was at first observed in the steady-state photoluminescence spectrum under high excitation intensities and discerned from BL1 and BL2 bands appearing in the same region of the spectrum. Using the time-resolved photoluminescence spectrum, we were able to determine the shape of the BLC and its position at 2.87 eV. Internal quantum efficiency of the YL band was estimated to be 90\%. This thesis is a comprehensive study of time synchronisation issues in vehicular communication networks. It reviews the requirements of time synchronization in cooperative vehicular networks and examines the feasibility of Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) timing techniques for synchronising the networks. Results from experiments show that GNSS time synchronisation methods can replace existing time synchronisation function (TSF) based synchronisation in vehicular networks by offering high precision and high accuracy.

Chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection has global effects on the immune system. CD8+ T-cells, responsible for viral clearance and control, are dysfunctional for as yet unknown reasons. It is hypothesized that IL-7 signaling pathway deficiencies contribute to this impairment. Blood-derived CD8+ T-cells in chronic HCV mono- and HIV-HCV co-infection had lower IL-7-induced activation of STAT5 and production of Bcl-2, and lower proliferation in co-infection, compared to controls.
