Polyborosilazanes with controllable B/N ratio were synthesized using high-boron-content m-carborane, dichloromethylsilane, and hexamethydisilazane. After high-temperature pyrolysis, Si–B–C–N quaternary ceramics with SiC and B4C as the main phases were obtained. The B/N ratio in the precursors corresponded to the change in the feeding ratio of carborane and dichloromethylsilane. The effects of boron content and B/N ratio on the ceramic precursors and microphase structure in Si–B–C–N quaternary ceramics were explored in detail through a series of analytical characterization methods. Abstract:
The xylose utilizing oleaginous yeasts Cryptococcus humicola NG2, Cyberlindnera subsufficiens NG8.2, Rhodotorula mucilaginosa MG11-2.3 and Yarrowia NG17 were newly isolated. Yarrowia NG17 had the highest accumulated oil content at 27.9% (w/w dry weight; DW) with a major fatty acid composition of oleic (57.6%) and palmitic (25.4%) acids when grown in a high carbon/nitrogen ratio (C/N) medium. Yarrowia NG17 gave a higher oil yield in sugarcane leaves hydrolysate (SLH) than in detoxified SLH, but this was lower compared to in the high C/N medium, while the oleic and palmitic acid compositions wer

Abstract:
Wolbachia are intracellular bacteria known to cause reproductive and sex ratio disorders in many insects. In various parasitic Hymenoptera, Wolbachia induce thelytokous reproduction. The overall goal of this research was the improvement of biological control agents by reversion of their mode of reproduction. This was attempted from two directions: 1) studying the effect of naturally occurring Wolbachia on the thelytokous species Muscidifuraxuniraptor and 2) trying to transmit thelytoky-inducing Wolbachia to Nasoniavitripennis. In M. uniraptor, gamete duplication was found to be the mode of dip

Full text
Abstract:
From previous studies, Sn-promoted Pt/KL prepared by vapor-phase co-impregnation exhibited high stability and selectivity to C8-aromatics for n-octane aromatization. Although the Pt/KL has many benefits, one of the serious drawbacks is its sensitivity to sulfur poisoning. Based on previous investigations, the addition of rare earth elements (RE; e.g. Tm, Ce, and Dy) into Pt/KL could improve sulfur tolerance of the catalysts. In this work, the sulfur resistance of PtSn/KL and RE-promoted PtSn/KL has been studied. PtSnRE/KL catalysts with Pt:Sn:RE ratio of 1:1:0.15 were prepared by sequential RE

The aim of this present study was to investigate an effect of acute exhaustive and moderate intensities exercises, exercise training and vitamin C supplementation on physiological change and rhinitis symptoms in allergic rhinitis patients. There were two studies: Study I : The subjects, aged18-45 years old, were divided into 2 groups: 14 healthy individuals and 13 allergic rhinitis (AR) patients. They were assigned to perform the strenuous exercise on treadmill by using Bruce protocol until they were exhausted. Two weeks later, they were assigned to perform a moderate exercise by walking on tr

Abstract:
This project focused on quantifying the reference stress to be used in predictive models for assessing the effects of metal loss on pipeline integrity. The results of this project will work in concert with the outcomes of project EC-2-7 that examined sources of scatter in metal-loss predictions with respect to the metal-loss defect geometry. The methodology for developing a new reference stress included empirical and finite element analyses along with comparison of full-scale experimental results that indicate the failure behavior of defect-free pipe has dependence on the strain hardening rate

Abstract:
The tomato, a profitable vegetable crop in both the USA and Israel, has benefited significantly from intensive breeding efforts in both countries, and elsewhere (esp. Holland). : Modem hybrids are highly prolific and resistant to a variety of major pests. They produce attractive, firm fruit for both processing and fresh-marketing. In all cases, however, reduction in flavor and aroma have occurred concomitantly with the increase in yield. Sugars-acids ratio dominate fruit taste, whereas aroma volatiles (potent at minute ppb and ppt levels) contribute to the total characteristic tomato flavor. A

APPLICATION RESEARCH OF V CONTAINING HIGH STRENGTH WEATHERING STEEL IN STEEL STRUCTURE BUILDING. The Hong Kong Institute of Steel Construction, 2022. http://dx.doi.org/10.18057/icass2020.p.090.

Full text
Abstract:
Application research of V containing high strength weathering steel in steel structure building was conducted. The research shows that: adding 0.04% V into weathering steel can lead to grain refinement of ferrite, thereby improving steel performance. Fine polygonal ferrite can make for obvious yield platform, and front cooling method can make V(C, N) precipitation in ferrite fine and dispersive to enhance dislocation pinning, which can further enhance yield effect. In this research V containing weathering steel can realize 500MPa of strength grade, 0.84 of yield ratio, 26.0% of elongation, 3.0
