Abstract:

Abstract: My primary focus in this article is on sixteen slave cabins incorporated into three heritage tourism sites in Natchitoches, North West Louisiana. The sites are Oakland Plantation, Magnolia Plantation and Melrose Plantation. How is national identity expressed and articulated at these sites; and how does consideration of slave cabins provide opportunities for highlighting and questioning issues of national identity? I seek to persuade the reader that consideration of the current representations of the slave cabins can expand our analytical intervention and broaden our understanding of the promotion of national identity at these sites.Keywords: Confederate monuments. Abstract:

As crianças pequenas criam e inventam possibilidades de existências nos espaços públicos da educação infantil. O presente artigo apresenta as possibilidades de uma pedagogia dos sentidos, em que o processo de criação com as cabanas produzidas e espalhadas pelos espaços evidencia a autoria das crianças e da professora. Apresentando caminhos e transformando os espaços-tempos em uma dinâmica que inquieta e dinamiza os trajetos com abertura para o novo. O diálogo com a arquitetura, a arte e a educação infantil possibilita compreendermos a relevância da existência de um planejamento potente e de um currículo que tendem a ser revistos, pois os campos políticos, estéticos e éticos transitam como uma via de mão dupla, evidenciando o protagonismo e autoria da inventividade e do coletivo infantil.

Abstract:

The letter focuses on a recent study in the Malaysian Journal of Nursing that illuminates nurses' accounts of workplace frustrations. We read the article “The experiences of nurse’s frustrations in clinical settings” by Garces-Cabanas and Dano (2022) with mixed emotions. This important facet of nursing illustrates a concerted attempt to uncover and address the story of work-related difficulties experienced by the younger generation, sometimes known as millennial nurses, in the nursing profession. We are cognisant that nurses face several challenges and expectations at work. The article goes into great length on the frustrating experiences nurses encounter and how they are managed.

Abstract:

Capoeira é uma prática de resistência e libertação dos negros. Porém, mesmo havendo registros de mulheres capoeira em Belém desde o século 19, as relações de gênero na Capoeira são influenciadas por valores ocidentais como machismo e patriarcado. Nesse processo, a capoeira vive o paradoxo de ser uma prática que se configura como descolonial, mas que é influenciada pela colonialidade de gênero. Desta forma, as mulheres praticantes da Capoeira Angola buscam formas coletivas de se organizar e lutar contra a colonialidade de gênero. Posto isto, nos propomos a analisar esta luta e os saberes ancestrais movidos por estas mulheres em Belém-PA, a partir da vivência do coletivo Angoleiras Cabanas.

Abstract:

O objetivo deste trabalho foi estudar as condições térmicas ambientais de diferentes materiais de cobertura de cabana de maternidade, no verão, utilizando os seguintes tratamentos: 1) cabana de maternidade coberta com fécula de isopor 2) cabana de maternidade coberta com isolamento de alumínio 3) cabana de maternidade coberta com tela e capim na cobertura 4) cabana de maternidade coberta com lona e capim na cobertura 5) ambiente ao ar livre e 6) à sombra da árvore. O delineamento experimental usado foi em blocos casualizados, em esquema de parcelas subdivididas, com 6 tratamentos nas parcelas, 5 horas nas subparcelas e 3 repetições. A categoria animal utilizada foi porcas lactantes, Landrace x Large White, distribuídas aleatoriamente por ordem de parto. Foi determinada a Umidade Relativa do Ar (UR), a Velocidade do Ar, a Temperatura Ambiente (Ta) e foram calculados o Índice de Temperatura de Globo e Umidade (ITGU) e a Carga Térmica Radiante (CTR). Apesar de os materiais utilizados como cobertura de maternidade terem melhorado o conforto térmico das porcas em relação as condições ambientais, ainda, não foram suficientes em atender as condições ideais de conforto térmico.

Abstract:

I began my day at 5:00 a.m., traveling sixty miles across the desert floor of the Tularosa basin in Southern New Mexico to my job as Director of Behavioral Sciences at the world's largest captive chimpanzee facility. At any given time, we house approximately 525 chimpanzees and 500 macaque monkeys. My arrival on site was heralded by the squall of macaque monkeys from their corn crib enclosures, which dotted the eastern flank of the facility like beach cabanas and lent a note of texture to an otherwise barren landscape. Although it was just like any other work day each week, this in itself, was enough to caution me from saying that it was an ordinary day.

Tarih boyunca üzerine pek çok tartışma yapılan ve muğlak bir kavram olan mutluluk, önceleri sınırları belli olmayan, ütopik bir hedef olarak görülürken 2000’lerden itibaren pozitif psikoloji şemsiyesi altında bilimsel bir zemin kazanmıştır ve mutluluk ekonomisinin ortaya çıkmasıyla birlikte neoliberal kapitalist sistemin ideolojilerinin gerçekleştirilmesinde güçlü bir araç haline gelmiştir. Artık hayatımızın her alanında kişisel gelişim kitabı yazarları, yaşam koçları, iş insanları, özel kurumlar ve vakıflar, ünlüler ve pozitif psikologlar insanlara mutluluk vaazı vermeye başlamıştır, mutluluk hayatlarımızda gündelik olarak (per diem) ve bıkkınlık verecek ölçüde (ad nauseam) yer etmiştir (Cabanas ve Illouz, 2023, s. 12). Pozitif psikolojiye göre mutluluk, bireylerin kendi elinde ve kendi sorumluluğundadır, insanlar kendi öz-imkânlarını kullanarak yükselebilme ve olumsuz koşulları gelişim ve başarı için fırsata dönüştürebilme potansiyeline sahiptir. La Formación Cuarcitas Botella (Dobrotiviense superior, Ordovícico Medio) contiene, en su parte inferior y media, raras asociaciones de bivalvos que han sido examinadas en cinco localidades centroibéricas. Estas se sitúan al oeste de Cabeza del Buey (Badajoz), al sur de Almaden y en Puertollano (Ciudad Real), norte de Castellar de Santisteban (Jaen) y sureste de Cabanas del Castillo (Cáceres). El material comprende los paleotaxodontos Praenucula costae (Sharpe), Cardiolaria beirensis (Sharpe) y Cardiolaria sp. y los paleoheterodontos Hemiprionodonta lusitanica (Sharpe), Lyrodesma truyolsi nov. sp., Modiolopsis cf. morierei de Tromelin y Modiolopsis sp. El registro de Modiolopsis cf. morierei de Tromelin y de! genero Lyrodesma precede muy probablemente a la aparici6n de estos taxones en el Macizo Armoricano (Arenisca de May superior: Caradoc). El actinodontoide Lyrodesma se describe por vez primera en la Península Ibérica, representado por la nueva especie Lyrodesma truyolsi nov. sp., carente de septo anterior, que representa la forma mas antigua conocida del género.

Abstract:

A região amazônica foi ocupada por grande diversidade de povos e culturas, em uma longa e dinâmica trajetória de desenvolvimento. Foi marcada pela adaptação à disponibilidade dos recursos naturais, bem como manejo do ambiente, a exemplo das terras pretas arqueológicas (TPA). Esses solos apresentam coloração escura, elevados teores de P, Ca, Mg, Zn e Mn, associados a artefatos cerâmicos, líticos, restos de fauna e flora. A pesquisa foi realizada nos sítios Bitoca 1 e Bitoca 2, localizados na área da Floresta Nacional Tapirapé-Aquiri (FLONATA), município de Marabá, Pará. Esses sítios são constituídos por pequenas manchas de TPA, que foram correlacionadas a áreas de habitação (cabanas e arredores). Essas áreas foram ocupadas por período aproximado de um milênio e podem ou não ter sido habitadas simultaneamente. Observações realizadas durante as escavações, aliadas às diferentes datações e às variações nos teores de P, Ca, Mg, Zn e Mn, tanto dentro como entre manchas, sugerem áreas com ocupações sucessivas e/ou reocupação, com atividades diferenciadas relacionadas ao tipo e à intensidade de materiais orgânicos (animal ou vegetal) e inorgânicos (fragmentos de cerâmica) descartados e/ou tempo de utilização do espaço.

Abstract:

O objetivo deste artigo é expor e analisar um estudo realizado na Escola Estadual João Ramos Filho, situada na cidade de Mariana (MG). A referida pesquisa descreveu a escolha desse nome para a instituição, que, embora já seja oficial, vem sendo usado, pela comunidade local, concomitantemente ao antigo, Escola Estadual de Ensino Médio Cabanas. Entrevistas com o diretor que encabeçou o movimento de escolha do nome oficial e a consulta a documentos permitiram observar e descrever o valor simbólico que o nome de uma escola tem para sua comunidade, o que corrobora um fundamento das pesquisas sobre Toponímia, segundo o qual os nomes dos lugares são carregados de valores sociais. O texto discute ainda a situação que ocorre no momento: a escolha do novo nome, que homenageia um ex-prefeito de Mariana, João Ramos Filho, assassinado num crime de motivação política e fundador do bairro onde se situa a escola, bem como sua oficialização não são suficientes para impedir o uso, inclusive nas redes sociais, do antigo nome, que havia sido empregado provisoriamente e de forma não oficial por poucos anos. Além disso, o artigo apresenta uma reflexão sobre os desafios metodológicos encontrados na realização de pesquisas de caráter interdisciplinar como as que se fazem em torno dos nomes de instituições escolares.Palavras-chave: Escola Estadual João Ramos Filho; cidade de Mariana; Toponímia; nomeação escolar.This work aims at showcasing and analyzing a study conducted at João Ramos Filho State School, located in the municipality of Mariana (MG), Brazil. The research described the choice for naming the institution, which, despite being official, has only been used by the local population alongside with its former name, Cabanas State High School. Through interviews with the school’s principal who took charge in the movement of officially naming the school, as well as archival documentation, the research observed and described the symbolic value a school’s name has over its community, corroborating a foundation of Toponymy research, according to which names are loaded with social values. The text also discusses the current situation: the choice for a new name, paying tribute to the former mayor, João Ramos Filho, who was murdered under a politically motivated crime, and who was the founder of the neighborhood where the school is located, as well as its process of officialization are not sufficient to prevent speakers from using, even in social networking sites, its first name, which had been instituted provisionally, and somewhat informally, for a few years. Besides that, this paper presents a reflection on the methodological challenges encountered during interdisciplinary research, such as the ones carried out on the naming of educational institutions.Keywords: João Ramos Filho State School; city of Mariana; Toponymy; school naming.

Abstract:

Atualmente está sendo bastante utilizada, principalmente no Reino Unido, a metodologia de ensino STEAM, que é um acrônimo de Ciência, Tecnologia, Engenharia, Artes e Matemática. Para utilizar essa metodologia ao ensinar, é preciso estabelecer inter-relações entre essas cinco áreas do conhecimento. Nesse sentido, o presente estudo é fruto das discussões realizadas e da atividade solicitadas pela disciplina Tendências e abordagens de pesquisas em ensino de Ciências e Matemática, que ocorreu em julho de 2017, ofertada pelo Programa de Doutorado em Educação em Ciências e Matemática (PPGECEM/REAMEC). Foram realizadas observações não estruturadas com intuito de identificar possibilidades didáticas, por meio de elementos, estruturas e lugares do referido parque. As possibilidades de problematizações encontradas foram as estruturas construídas no parque, sendo as cabanas de descanso, a estátua que faz referência à matriarca do parque e o mirante. Esta última já não existe mais devido a comprometimento em sua conjuntura estrutural, mas pode ser trabalhado devido registros em sites de notícias locais e nacionais. Logo, o estudo mostrou ser possível utilizar a metodologia STEAM para favorecer a construção de conhecimentos de forma inter-relacionada.

O conceito de face ganhou bastante destaque nos estudos sociológicos e linguísticos, especialmente na área da pragmática e sociolinguística interacional. Postulado na década de sessenta, e embora coerente com a atualidade, o conceito não abriga as características das interações da pós-modernidade. Portanto, este texto tem como objetivo atualizar o conceito de face relacionando-o aos estudos da polidez e da positividade na performance do “eu” em interações das redes sociais. Proponho que a face positiva, em tempos de capitalismo tardio, seja considerada uma face essencialmente positivada, a começar pela essência individualista do paradigma de polidez, que, talvez influenciados também pelo contexto histórico e social da época se permitiram vislumbrar um conceito tão alinhado com a perspectiva já apontada. Para isto, foi realizada uma revisão bibliográfica que incluiu os estudos de Goffman (1963a;1963b;1967;1975), Brown e Levinson (1987), Bourdieu (2010), Brinkmann (2022), Cabanas e Illouz (2022), Han (2019), Ortega e Gasset (1962), Barros (2011), Recuero (2009), Strömquist (2023), entre outros. Considerando o contexto do capitalismo tardio e da intensificação das interações sociais através das redes sociais da internet, defendo que a face é monetizada, sendo ela essencialmente positivada por meio de uma fluidez inerente variando conforme o contexto e o nicho interacional.

We explore the potential impact of climatic and oceanic variables on the dynamics of horse mackerel Trachurus trachurus (coastal distribution) and albacore Thunnus alalunga (oceanic distribution). Principal components analysis of a set of environmental parameters for the years 1966–2000 allowed us to characterize the system by three components. The first consisted mainly of sea surface temperature (SST; 18.5% of variability), the second was determined by the oceanic transport indices, potential energy anomaly (PEA), and the Gulf Stream Index (15.6%), and the third by the meridional wind component and Ekman transport (11.5%). Horse mackerel recruitment was negatively correlated mainly with the first thermal component, whereas albacore age 3 catches were negatively correlated with the second oceanic component and positively with the third wind component. Multiple linear regression confirmed that environmental conditions [SST, PEA, and the zonal (east–west) wind component] explained the availability of age 3 albacore to the surface fisheries for the period 1975–1999. In contrast, cross-validation analysis showed that environmental conditions did not consistently explain horse mackerel recruitment, probably because of the short time-series available (15 y).

The family Nomoclastidae is revised and, based on a cladistic analysis, Callcosma Roewer, 1932 is transferred to the family from Cranaidae. The monotypic genus Napostygnus Roewer, 1929, hitherto considered incertae sedis, is also assigned to Nomoclastidae. Zygopachylus Chamberlin, 1925 and Poassa Roewer, 1943 are synonymised under Quindina Roewer, 1914, consequently creating the new combinations Quindina limbata (Roewer, 1914) and Quindina albomarginis (Chamberlin, 1925). The new combination Quindina marginata (Roewer, 1963), comb. nov. is proposed, as the type-species of Deriacrus, D. simoni Roewer, 1932, is not congeneric with Deriacrus marginatus Roewer, 1963 and has the synapomorphies of Quindina, such as a row of large rounded tubercles on the lateral margin and enlarged tubercles on the dorsal scutum. A new genus and species are proposed, Kichua rheimsae, sp. nov., from Ecuador (type locality: Ecuador, Napo, Cantón Quijos, Parroquira Cozanga, Yanayacu Research Station). Recruitment variability is an important component of the dynamics of Iberian sardine (Sardine pilchardus). Since 2006, poor recruitment has led to a decrease in stock biomass, the latest in a series of such crises for sardine fisheries. Understanding the mechanisms behind recruitment fluctuations has been the objective of many previous studies, and various relationships between recruitment and environmental variables have been proposed. However, such studies face several analytical challenges, including short time-series and autocorrelated data. A new analysis of empirical relationships with environmental series is presented, using statistical methods designed to cope with these issues, including dynamic factor analysis, generalized additive models, and mixed models. Relationships are identified between recruitment and global (number of sunspots), regional (NAOAutumn), and local [winter wind strength, sea surface temperature (SST), and upwelling] environmental variables. Separating these series into trend and noise components permitted further investigation of the nature of the relationships. Whereas the other three environmental variables were related to the trend in recruitment, SST was related to residual variation around the trend, providing stronger evidence for a causal link, possible mechanisms for which are discussed. After the removal of trend and cyclic components, residual variation in recruitment is also weakly related to the previous year's spawning-stock biomass.

Adota como referencial teórico a Psicologia Crítica que, não sendo um campo de estudos unificado, pretende analisar a Psicologia na sua constante interação com a realidade social, económica, cultural, política e histórica da qual é produto (Coimbra & Menezes, 2009).Método: para o efeito, foram entrevistados 12 investigadores pertencentes a um centro de investigação de Psicologia de uma universidade portuguesa, composto por cinco grupos de investigação, dos quais cinco são do género masculino e sete do género feminino. Não se distinguem as posições ocupadas pelos investigado-res (membros integrados do centro de investigação, docentes, bolseiros ou colaboradores) porquanto sendo um estudo exploratório; analisam-se somente os seus discursos através duma análise temática do conteúdo.Resultados: da análise emergiram as categorias (1) centro de investigação, (2) qualidade de investigação, (3) financiamento, (4) publicações e (5) papel da psicologia.Conclusão:conclui-se que neste centro predominam referenciais teóricos sensíveis aos fatores económicos, políticos e sociais, porém são os modelos tecnocratas e intrapsíquicos, mais alinhados com as demandas neoliberais, que têm maior alcance e impacto nas revistas internacionais e, por consequência, maior investi-mento, uma vez que é o sucesso no mercado que o determina.

Abstract:

In the structure of gynecological oncological pathology, vulvar cancer is located after cancer of the body of the uterus, cervix, and ovaries. The first publications on the surgical treatment of vulvar cancer date back to the second half of the 19th century. In the works of surgeons F. J. Taussig (1949) and S. Way (1960), radical vulvectomy with regional lymphadenectomy became a method of treating patients with invasive squamous cell carcinoma of the vulva. With this aggressive approach, sufficiently high levels of five-year survival of patients with vulvar cancer were achieved up to 90% in a localized process, and up to 50% in the presence of metastases in regional lymph nodes. In the 1980s and 1990s, the transition from ultra-radical operations to economical, sparing ones became possible because of factors such as the introduction of the sentinel lymph node determination method. Ramon M. Cabanas in the 1960s first coined the term sentinel of signal lymph node. Surgical treatment for vulvar cancer has evolved over time, from extended, ultra-radical surgeries to a more individualized, conservative surgical approach, including widespread local excision with sentinel lymph node (SLN) detection instead of extended surgeries for early vulvar cancer. The evolution of the surgical treatment of vulvar cancer over the years is undoubtedly associated with the developments of the surgical technique, understanding of the biology of tumor growth, and radiation medicine along with the possibilities of drug therapy. The transition from simple tumor excision to extended, ultra-radical operations with inguinal-femoral, retroperitoneal, and pelvic lymphadenectomy made it possible to achieve good survival rates for this group of patients. In any case, further research is required to understand the adequate scope of surgical treatment for vulvar cancer.

RESUMO Neste artigo discute-se como alguns letrados e políticos da Amazônia compreenderam a cultura iletrada na Cabanagem, movimento ocorrido nessa região entre 1835 e 1840. Analisam-se relatórios de presidentes da província do Grão-Pará, estudos da época e centralmente a obra Motins políticos, do historiador e político imperial Domingos Antônio Raiol, o Barão de Guajará. Escrita entre as décadas de 1860 e 1890, a obra descreve as motivações para a guerra cabana pela ótica da ordem imperial, sobretudo após a ascensão do imperador D. Pedro II. Admite-se como hipótese que as mudanças educacionais e sociais, nascidas após os anos de 1870, embora tenham fomentado a criação de novas instituições escolares e ampliado o grau e a abrangência da instrução formal, elas também trouxeram temores na sua condução por se tratar de um local tão revolucionário quanto o Pará. Conclui-se que discutir os saberes cabanos - ainda que pela leitura arrevesada de Raiol - é criticar um tipo de educação formal, compreendendo o quanto ela pode desqualificar conhecimentos e saberes informais de mundo.

In this sense, words and toponyms were true lessons that those grandparents gave to the children and grandchildren of that time. Since nobody was giving away anything, it was necessary to join hands, wisdoms and hoes to fix the roads, to collaborate in the mountain pastures or to look after to the most needy. In short: it is the words of the landscape that, once again, bearwitness to the customs of the past that are essential for the future, even in these technified times of the beginning of the millennium. They are the long history of the Asturian landscape written in the words.

Considérées comme informelles du point de vue occidental, les cabanes du Nunavik marquent l’évolution d’un mode de vie hérité de la tradition inuit et révèlent un savoir-faire riche de solutions face à la crise du logement des communautés. Composées d’objets et de matériaux pour la plupart recyclés, détournés ou acquis aléatoirement, ces cabanes se déploient ingénieusement au coeur de la toundra d’une manière aussi admirable qu’est la résilience de leurs bâtisseurs. À l’égard de l’architecture, deux questions se posent : comment sont construites ces cabanes et comment une meilleure connaissance de leur composition pourrait-elle enrichir une vision partagée de l’architecture nordique ? La rencontre avec des auto-constructeurs locaux et l’observation in situ de cabanes le long du fjord de Salluit (Nunavik), en août 2018, suggèrent une réponse tangible abordant à la fois les processus conceptuels et constructifs des cabanes. Formulé tel un retour réflexif sur ces rencontres et ces observations, cet article propose une lecture des cabanes toundriques par une « déconstruction graphique » de leurs composantes. En étudiant chacun des éléments couche après couche, ce procédé ouvre les perspectives d’une compréhension détaillée des modes de fabrication, d’occupation et de transformation des cabanes. L’étude propose enfin une catégorisation des divers types de cabanes repérées dans le fjord de Salluit. Par leurs caractéristiques respectives, ces types traduisent les variantes d’une relation au territoire toujours centrale dans la culture des Nunavimmiut.

Neste contexto, a cabana primitiva consistiu num importante referencial para a teorização da arquitectura. Um dos aspectos mais importantes desta teorização e reflexão em torno da cabana primitiva e da sua relação com a origem da arquitectura poderá ter consistido no progressivo entendimento da mesma, já não como objecto de imitação directa, mas sim como referencial ideal, processo que abriria caminho á construção da Modernidade e a uma evolução futura da arquitectura.

Lithium-Ion Batteries (LIBs) require further development in terms of safety and performance to establish also in the automotive market and new materials at both electrode sides as well as at the electrolyte side are necessary to overcome the state of-the-art and the commercial benchmarks. [1] The positive electrode materials constitute the bottleneck for present LIBs. They are based on layered structures (LiCoO2, NMC, NMA), spinel (LiMn2O4) and olivine LiFePO4, with rather moderate specific capacities (120–180 mAhg−1). [2] Therefore, the resulting specific energies are insufficient to meet market demand. Over-stoichiometric Li-rich layered oxides (LRLOs) are a family of positive electrode materials with promising theoretical electrochemical performance. [3] Indeed, they have received widespread attention due to their extremely high specific capacity (>250 mAhg−1) and low cost. Their extraordinary capacity has been confirmed to originate not only from the redox activities of transition metals, but also from the redox activities of oxygen anions. The crystal structure of LRLOs is an open playground of debate. There are two main hypotheses: a) a two phase nano-domain and b) a single phase solid solution. In this framework, the modeling of the crystal structure is quite challenging. Usually, the description of the structure of LRLOs can be done with rhombohedral or monoclinic unit cell. Nevertheless, the use of convention unit cells leads to a bad representation of the crystal structure because of the missing of structure features in the superstructure region (20<θ<30 in typical diffraction pattern with Cu Kα). In this communication, we demonstrate that extensive defectivities play a key role in the shape and intensity of diffractograms of LRLOs. In particular, we show how the use of supercells or defects (antisite defects and stacking faults) can help in the description of crystal structure of this class of materials. Cabanis established a connection between three philosophically crucial issues: the relationship between body and soul, body and mind; the status and place occupied by medicine in politics; the content of anthropological theory. To him, an understanding of the moral dimension of human existence can be gained only on the basis of the knowledge of the physical person. This contribution focuses on the meaning and scope of Cabanis’ materialistic anthropology. Based on a commentary of the Rapports and of Cabanis’ previous works, it highlights the attention paid by Cabanis to the complex processes and interactions that give birth to the moral manifestations of human life. It allows to depart from a linear interpretation of his main thesis. This contribution also aims at proposing an analysis of the place granted to physiological knowledge in regard of the specific goals pursued by political bodies, in a complementary approach to Staum’s interpretation of Cabanis’ thought.
