L'Orthodontie Française 90, no. 1 (March 2019): 37–54. http://dx.doi.org/10.1051/orthodfr/2019004.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Permanent photographers arrive in Pamplona in the 1860s. One of the first studios to be established, the first in the Plaza de la Constitución, or del Castillo, was «Pamplonesa Photography. Coyné y Cía». This studio, which will go through several stages and names, was founded by Anselmo María Coyné and Valentín Marín, both photographers from Pamplona. From 1866 to 1881, together with the studio of Leandro and Dublán, they will reflect the image of the society of Pamplona through their albumin portraits in carte de visite or carte cabinet format, until the appearance of the dry plate gelatin-bromide and the increase in the number of studios at the end of the 19th century. Keywords: photography in Pamplona, 19th century; photographic establishments; Anselmo Coyné; Valentín Marín; visit card. Abstract:
Zingiber officinale Roscoe, family of Zingiberaceae is classified as traditional medicinal that globally consumed as spices, food flavouring as well as remedies to treat women during confinement, to treat stomach upset and diarrhoea. The rhizome has been reported to contain abundant bioactive constituents which are mainly polyphenol and flavonoid. Therefore in this research the effect of cabinet drying (60°C) and freeze drying (-40°C) process during preparation of nanostructure Zingiber officinale Roscoe rhizome on particle sizes, surface morphology, FTIR, as well as Total Phenolic Content (TPC) and Total Flavonoid Content(TFC) were compared. Both drying process affect the particle sizes as well as TPC and TFC value. Finer particle size (254.3+ 9.33) and higher TPC (152.54 mg GAE/ g) and TFC (1.42 mgQE/g) were reported for cabinet dried nanostructure Zingiber officinale Rosc. rhizome as compared to freeze dried. The FESEM Photographs revealed that drying processes did affect the surface morphologies of nanostructure Zingiber officinale Rosc rhizome where cabinet dried produced solid spherical particles with a diameter around 100 – 200 nm and some smaller than100nm. Freeze dried consist of many nanoparticles having rod like structure. Both drying process did not significantly affect the presence of active compounds based on FTIR analysis.

Abstract:
Should a collection of prints and graphic materials include only items of undoubted artistic worth, or can it also include items which are valued primarily as historical evidence and because they vividly illustrate the past? This question is raised by the variety of materials accumulated in the graphic collections of the Biblioteka Jagiellonska in Cracow, ranging as they do from artists’ prints to photographs and postcards, and including a unique collection of material arising from the political struggle in Poland during the 1980s. Typically, graphic collections accumulate by gift and chance, without any intention that they should serve only a single aim; since visual images of all kinds lend themselves to being looked at and used in different ways, a visual collection, especially in a public library, should serve many purposes and a wide range of users. Abstract:
The Avant-Garde movements of the twentieth century explored the creative possibilities of new types of media in architecture, such as the photographic camera or cinema. In a series of experimental projects, authors such as El Lissitzky based their work on assimilating the human eye with a mechanical lens, making it possible to create new concepts of space. A simultaneous consideration of the resources of Vertov’s Cine-Eye in relation to the exhibition projects of El Lissitzky reveals some of his proposals as paradigmatic examples of the perceptive experimentation of the viewer in relation to art, and in a wider sense, to architecture. By analysing the cinematic resources of the film Man with a Movie Camera (1929), architectural aspects are analysed in the exhibition spaces of the Abstract Cabinet and PRESSA, identifying connections that break down the boundaries between the different disciplines.

Abstract:
A Debye–Scherrer film that had been stored for several years in an office environment file cabinet was observed to be shriveled and distorted in appearance. An investigation using X-ray diffraction was carried out to determine the cause of the physical change in the film strip. As expected, silver phases were detected, due to the photographic capture layer coated on the surface of all traditional X-ray films. An unexpected result was the presence of cellulose II, an indication that a chemical change had occurred in the original cellulose triacetate (CTA) polymer film base. Laboratory experiments used to demonstrate an accelerated method of deacetylation of CTA were carried out, resulting in phase pure cellulose II. A density functional geometry optimization allowed for the generation of an improved structural model for cellulose II. Calculated and experimental powder patterns for cellulose II have been submitted to the International Centre for Diffraction Data for inclusion in future releases of the Powder Diffraction File.

Abstract:

Lachiver, Claire Cohen. "Poétiser la mort : les poires sentimentales." Paris 1, 2010. http://www.theses.fr/2010PA010697.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Early Photography in Vietnam is a fascinating and outstanding pictorial record of photography in Vietnam during the century of French rule. In more than 500 photographs, many published here for the first time, the volume records Vietnam’s capture and occupation by the French, the wide-ranging ethnicities and cultures of Vietnam, the country’s fierce resistance to foreign rule, leading to the reassertion of its own identity and subsequent independence. This benchmark volume also includes a chronology of photography (1845–1954), an index of more than 240 photographers and studios in the same period, appendixes focusing on postcards, royal photographic portraits, Cartes de Visite and Cabinet Cards, as well as a select bibliography and list of illustrations.

Abstract:
On the Last day there would be a potluck and a drawing for some free appliances and $100 in cash. It was clear, though, that those still around in September 2004 could hardly wait for this drawn-out shuttering finally to be over. Crews were taking down the lighting, removing tables and cabinets, and gathering screws and air gun bits to toss in the garbage. “I don’t know if they are going to start with fresh tools down there in Reynosa or what the deal is,” Tracy Warner said. The crews also asked workers to remove photographs and newspaper clippings from their workstations. “They are dismantling it all around us, like they can’t wait for us to get out of there.” The lawn outside, usually covered in pop cans, plastic wrappers, and cigarette butts, was cleaned up and sprayed green by Chem Lawn. Management was trying to sell the old place. Warner’s imminent layoff was part of a sea-change in Illinois in the first years of the new millennium. The pace of the hollowing out of manufacturing in the fourth-largest manufacturing state in the country had been unprecedented. From June 2000 to November 2003, Illinois lost more than 100 manufacturing jobs a day, or one out of every six. Gone were over 150,000 jobs in a state of 12,500,000. In Rockford, the machine-tool industry wilted, and unemployment spiked at over 11 percent. In Harvard, located near the Wisconsin border, Motorola closed its cellphone plant. Developers wanted to turn the site into the world’s largest indoor water park. In Peoria, Decatur, and Kankakee, laid-off workers applied for jobs at Walmarts and Home Depots that would pay them maybe half their former wage. In suburban Chicago, Winzeler Gear went from making 2 million gears a month with fifty-five workers to making 16 million a month with thirty-five employees. A robot the size of a minivan increased the factory’s output while also eliminating human labor. Even with the productivity boost, the owner doubted the company would be able to stay competitive.
