One of the objectives of the SCARLET project is to develop and industrially manufacture superconducting MgB2 cables cooled by liquid hydrogen. The ex situ powder-in-tube MgB2 wires manufactured by ASG are considered for the cable design that can carry DC current of 20 kA. These braided superconducting wires, containing brittle filaments, require high current. Thus, the study of the electro-mechanical properties of MgB2 wires is crucial for the cable design and its functional use. During manufacture, handling, transportation, installation and operation, mechanical overstress can affect the electrical and thermal properties of the conductor. As the wires in general are made of copper, which is a very plastically deforming material, these stresses will gradually generate plastic deformations of the copper until the wires start to fail. The objective of this article is to study, by numerical modeling (using Comsol and Abaqus), the impact of damage mechanisms on the electrical and thermal properties of a submarine cable phase. Context. Today, the leading cable production plants in many countries of the world manufacture single- and multi-module designs of fiber-optic cables (FOC) with different protective covers and the number of fibers. This creates a wide range of possible FOC models for different consumer (buyer) requirements. However, the lack of openness of prices for FOC for the consumer, in particular for the project organization, and the desire of the manufacturer to save on production creates a need for the development and research of a method for evaluating the effectiveness of FOC of a multi-module design

Abstract:
Pre-tensioned steel cable is a crucial load-bearing component of steel structure, the fire behavior of which affects the overall performance of the structure. However, it presently lacks research and fire safety design method to consider steel cable members subject to localized large-space building fire. In this paper, the mechanical behavior of normal steel strand cable and full-locked steel cable under large-space building fire is investigated, to provide guidance for the fire safety design of steel cable. Firstly, the numerical model of temperature field of steel cables subject to large-spa

EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION ON MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF GRADE 1670 STEEL WIRES AT AND AFTER ELEVATED TEMPERATURE. The Hong Kong Institute of Steel Construction, 2022. http://dx.doi.org/10.18057/icass2020.p.209.

Abstract:
Grade 1670 steel wires were selected for elevated-temperature and post-elevated-temperature tensile tests. The test data were analyzed through comparison with the results in existing literatures. The elevated-temperature test results indicate that, mechanical properties of the steel wires degraded with the increase of temperature. The mechanical behaviors of the steel wires degraded rapidly at the temperature exceeding 300°C; and the load-carrying ability was substantially lost when the temperature increased up to 700°C. In the post-elevated-temperature test, the modulus of the steel wire was
