Among national infrastructure facilities, electric power facilities are very important sites that must maintain their functions properly even during a natural disaster or during social crises. Therefore, seismic design is required when necessary for major electric power facilities that have a significant impact when damaged in the event of an earthquake. In electric power facilities, bushings are generally installed in devices or structures. Therefore, ground acceleration can be amplified through devices, such as transformers, or sub-structures. It is known that the failure of cable terminations causes power outages and impairs system quality and continuity. Besides, serious economic losses on both the distribution and consumer sides occur. In this study, the dielectric behavior of the cable and the faults caused by the defects in the cable termination under overvoltage has been examined. As test samples, 12 kV XLPE insulated cable is used and they were aged at three (3*U0) and five (5*U0) times the rated voltage. After each aging cycle, dielectric parameters of the cable were measured by an OMIRCRON CPC100/CPTD1 device, and the parti

International standards prescribe overvoltage tests to evaluate the insulating material performance of high-voltage cables. However, it is difficult to manage the electric fields at the cable ends when laboratory measurements are carried out because surface and external discharges occur at the cable termination. Therefore, this paper presents a procedure for designing cable terminations to reduce the electric field at the cable ends to appropriate levels even in the case of overvoltage tests. On-site PD measurements on high voltage cables have to concentrate on the cable accessories because there is a remaining risk for assembling faults on site. PD sensors with an appropriate coupling behavior to accessory-internal PD give sensitivities of a few pC or even better. Unfortunately, two main reasons prevent the general use of PD sensors in cable accessories. First of all, the costs for PD sensors have to be balanced with the costs of the accessories, importance of the cable link, consequential costs for outage etc. This is the reason why PD sensors were mainly used EHV cable systems.

Abstract Synthetic fibers like Kevlar and Vectran are used as load carrying members in Electro-mechanical cables for marine applications. These cables have high strength, high modulus and very low water absorption rate which make them suitable materials for marine applications. The flexible electromechanical cables carry tensile load and electrical power along with data signals. Terminations are used to connect these cables to another cable or terminal. An efficient termination will ensure a load carrying capacity that is almost equal to the breaking load of the strength member of the cable. T
