Abstract:
All Rapid Prototyping and CNC material removal processes use information which is extracted from a CAD system. There are several ways to convert CAD data into usable manufacturing information. In this paper, five methods of translating CAD data into a usable manufacturing format are explained. These five methods are data translation from CAD files in STL, DXF, STEP-NC, and IGES formats as well as a platform-dependent area method of manufacturing information in a desirable format. For each method, algorithms and details about the CAD data translation into usable manufacturing and prototyping processes formats are presented. Finally, applications of each approach and its pros and cons are summarized in a table.

Abstract:
This paper describes an automated system to address disconnect between the design and analysis programs. The disconnect between computer-aided design (CAD) and analysis occurs because one system is powered by geometrical information and the other is not. One system is meant to handle geometry, while the other creates a mesh and does not rely on geometry in the same way that CAD does. Engineering software developers coming up with a design-analysis workaround by building design automation into their CAD packages. This method gives engineers vital information about the part from the get-go. The information is gleaned from the past designs for similar parts and can be automatically included in the new model. Such automated systems capture expert knowledge and reapply it to other models. The system might ask engineers to answer several questions about what they intend to design before they even start. The automated system would help engineers build parts upfront that would meet criteria for phenomena from varied disciplines, including fluid, structural, or thermal analysis.

Abstract Feature-based translation of computer-aided design (CAD) models allows designers to preserve the modeling history as a series of modeling operations. Modeling operations or features contain information that is required to modify CAD models to create different variants. Conventional formats, including the standard for the exchange of product model data or the initial graphics exchange specification, cannot preserve design intent and only geometric models can be exchanged. As a result, it is not possible to modify these models after their exchange. Macro-parametric approach (MPA) is a method for exchanging feature-based CAD models among heterogeneous CAD systems. TransCAD, a CAD system for inter-CAD translation, is based on this approach. Translators based on MPA were implemented and tested for exchange between two commercial CAD systems. The issues found during the test rallies are reported and analyzed in this work. MPA can be further extended to remaining features and constraints for exchange between commercial CAD systems.

Abstract:
This article highlights that by using a standard that enables complete product model data to be transmitted digitally, a company can build open systems to make information available on many platforms throughout its operations. The world of CAD/CAM has viewed the International Graphics Exchange Standard (IGES) as its translation standard for years, using the system to move two-dimensional models from one program to another. While IGES does, in fact, do a good job of transmitting basic geometry, another translator—the Standard for the Exchange of Product Data (STEP) —has been gaining on IGES in popularity. STEP goes considerably further than just transmitting geometry; it provides users with the ability to express and exchange digitally useful product information throughout a product's life cycle, including design, analysis, manufacturing, and support. In short, IGES transmits two-dimensional drawings, while STEP transmits complete product models. The updated schema, consisting of an ASCII file written in EXPRESS, is simply run through a utility that merges the extensions that have been added by Unigraphics with the standard ST-Developer libraries. Updating the translator to incorporate an upgraded version of the libraries is just as easy.

Abstract:
The methods of data exchange between CAD and CAE systems are described. The first method is using direct conversion, the second method is using neutral formats. The description of the modular system for designing and analysis the strength and stability of single-contour and double-contour geodesic shells GeoTran is given. The direct translation of geometric models from ArchiCAD to Patran/Nastran / Dytran has the disadvantage of having to develop translators for each data exchange scheme. It is proposed to implement the translation of geometric models in a neutral STEP format, which reduces the number of required translators. It is noted that the STEP format is recognized by various CAE systems that implement the finite element method (Autodesk Mechanical Desktop, Bentley Microstation, CATIA V4, CATIA V5, MSC Patran/Nastran, UGS PLM Solutions NX). The characteristics of the OBJ format used for storing a geometric model in the ArchiCAD CAD system and the STEP format used for data exchange with CAE systems are studied. A translator of geometric models of single-contour geodesic shells from ArchiCAD to STEP format in the Visual Basic programming language has been developed. For this purpose a syntactically oriented approach was used. The translator has a graphical user interface that makes it easier to use. The translator allows you to automate the exchange of data between the ArchiCAD CAD system and various CAE systems designed for strength analysis and supporting import from the STEP format. The applicability of the translator for the exchange of data on geometric models of single-contour geodesic domes with triangular plates between ArchiCAD and the Delcam Exchange converter program is verified. It is demonstrated that the STEP file format generated by the OBJSTEPTranslator is recognized by an external program.

In this paper, extract the coordinates of the vertices of the 2D CAD graphics to construct the complex-valued signal. And use the signal to do the DFT. The encrypted watermark is embedded into the DFT amplitude by using the IDE algorithm. Experimental results show that the algorithm has good invisibility, with good reversibility. The algorithm has robust against the attacks such as combination of translation, rotation, translation and adding an entity.

A solution to one aspect of CAD to GEANT translation is presented where CAD defined objects are represented as a tree of boxes which is then absorbed into GEANT geometries. Space and time benchmarks are discussed.

Abstract:
There are many different programs that can perform Computer Aided Design (CAD). In order for these programs to share data, file translations need to occur. These translations have typically been done by IGES and STEP files. With the work done at the BYU CAD Lab to create a multi-engineer synchronous heterogeneous CAD environment, these translation processes have become synchronous by using a server and a database to manage the data. However, this system stores part data in a database. The data in the database cannot be used in traditional Product Lifecycle Management systems. In order to remedy this, a new database was developed that enables every edit made in a CAD part across multiple CAD systems to be stored as well as worked on simultaneously. This allows users to access every action performed in a part. Branching was introduced to the database which allows users to work on multiple configurations of a part simultaneously and reduces file save sizes for different configurations by 98.6% compared to those created by traditional CAD systems.

Abstract:
The polyglutamine diseases are caused by an expansion of a CAG repeat sequence. This group of late-onset neurodegenerative disorders is characterised by neuronal cell death and the accumulation of polyglutamine-containing proteins. Several molecular mechanisms have been proposed that may explain disease pathogenesis.
In this study, we propose a new pathogenic mechanism for these neurodegenerative diseases. We have demonstrated that expanded CAG stretches are prone to frameshifting to the -1 alanine-encoding GCA frame, and we propose that this phenomenon is due to ribosomal slippage during translation. This slippage depends on the presence of long CAG tracts, and generates polyalanine-containing proteins. We showed that polyalanines increase cell toxicity. Finally, we tested the effects of a ribosome-interacting drug and its ability to reduce or inhibit -1 translational frameshift and hence reduce cell toxicity. This drug introduces an avenue of potential treatment for these disorders.

Abstract:
The concept of translating source code into other target programming languages is extensively used in a wide area of applications. Danfoss Power Solutions AB, a company located in Älmhult, strives to streamline their way of software development for microcontrollers by implementing this idea. Their proprietary software tool PLUS+1 GUIDE is based on the CAN bus communication network, which allows electronic control units to share data represented in the XML format. Due to compatibility problems, the application in the electronic control units requires this data to be translated into the source code in the low-level C programming language. This thesis project proposes an approach for facilitating this task by implementing a source-to-source compiler that performs the translation with a reduced level of manual user involvement. A literature review was conducted in order to find the existing solutions relevant to our project task. An analysis of the provided XML input files was thereafter performed to clarify a software design suitable for the problem. By using a general XML parser, a solution was then constructed. The implementation resulted in a fully functional source-to-source compiler, producing the generated C code within a time range of 73–85 milliseconds for the input test files of typical size. The feedback received from the domain experts at Danfoss confirms the usability of the proposed solution.

Abstract:
Enterobacteria have evolved several strategies to survive the acidic environment of the gastrointestinal tract. One of the acid stress resistance systems is the Cad system in Escherichia coli, which is induced by low pH and in the presence of external lysine. It consists of CadA, which catalyzes the decarboxylation of lysine to cadaverine, the lysine/cadaverine antiporter CadB and the pH sensing transcriptional regulator CadC. Moreover, the lysine permease LysP inhibits the induction of cadBA expression when lysine is absent, and the small histon-like molecule H-NS acts as repressor for both cadBA and cadC transcription. Additionally, a random mutagenesis approach revealed that a deletion in yjeK leads to highly reduced cadaverine production. YjeK acts as 2,3-lysine aminomutase (LAM) while catalyzing the isomerization of (S)-α-lysine to (R)-β-lysine. The truncated lysyl-tRNA synthetase YjeA uses (R)-β-lysine as substrate to post-translationally modify and to activate the translation elongation factor EF-P at a conserved lysine residue (K34). EF-P and its ortholog eukaryotic initiation factor 5A (eIF5A) have been investigated for more than thirty years, but their roles in translation remained enigmatic. In this work the role of active EF-P in the Cad system was investigated in more detail. Reduced cadBA expression in ΔyjeA, ΔyjeK642-1029 and Δefp mutants was linked to impaired CadC translation. As the translation of cadA and cadB was EF-P independent, a general role of EF-P in translation could be excluded. The identification of CadC as first direct target for EF-P in E. coli allowed further investigations on the role of EF-P in translation. Determining the β-galactosidase activities of CadC´-LacZ translational fusions of increasing CadC length in efp- and efp+ cells revealed that EF-P is required for translation of the sequence found between codon 108 and 158 in cadC. This region comprises a cluster of three consecutive prolines (Pro120-Pro121-Pro122). Substitution of these prolines by alanines diminished EF-P dependency. Remarkably, cells harboring the CadC-PPPIP/AAAIS variant revealed cadBA expression even under non-inducing conditions. Thus, EF-P tightly controls the CadC copy number, which is crucial for stress dependent regulation of the Cad system. In order to investigate the work mechanism of EF-P in more detail, EF-P independent CadC´-LacZ hybrids were employed to artificially introduce prolines. Three consecutive prolines were sufficient for EF-P dependency, regardless of the codon or the context. The proline-rich proteins AmiB, FlhC, Flk, NlpD, RzoR, TonB and UvrB also showed EF-P dependent expression. Thus, the recognition of three consecutive prolines by EF-P is a general mechanism and not limited to CadC. Dr. Agata Starosta of the group of Dr. Daniel Wilson (Gene Center, LMU Munich) confirmed ribosomal stalling at polyproline-stretches in samples lacking EF-P with in vitro translation assays. Finally it was investigated, if EF-P expression and modification could be stress-dependently regulated. In this work first hints are given that the efp promoter contains a repressor site, and that expression of yjeA and yjeK is dependent on the pH of the medium and the presence of the small RNA binding protein Hfq. This leads to the suggestion that small regulatory RNAs are also involved in regulation of the EF-P modification enzymes. In conclusion, the results obtained in this work reveal a new regulatory mechanism by EF-P dependent translation. 100-1000´s of polyproline rich proteins exist in bacteria, archaea and eukaryotes. Therefore, EF-P and its orthologs aIF5A and eIF5A most likely play an important role in the adjustment of copy numbers of proteins with different functions in all kingdoms of life.

With the emerging development of new technology and the constantly falling prices, more companies will find interest in industrial robots. Until today, the typical robot users have been large scale car manufacturers. But there exists a big potential market within the small to medium businesses that already uses of CNC machines. Attracting smaller businesses to start using industrial robots could open up the doors to new possibilities and increase their production. Unfortunately, most people still lack the knowledge of operating and programming industrial robots. But many companies have knowledge in G-code which is normally used in CNC machines. That is why this work is focussing on the development of a software that opens up the possibility to make use of G-code to program advanced robot paths with minimal user input. By striving for easier handling of robots, the vision about a more efficient and automated society will become one step closer. The introduction straightens out the different basic principles of CNC milling machines and robots. This will introduce the reader and highlight the different similarities and differences that exist between robots and CNC mills. The goal of this work has been to create an add-in application for ABB’s off-line programming software RobotStudio that was able to import at least one type of file format commonly used for CNC milling. The program should be able to handle some basic functionality, the focus has been on the standard iso6983 type of G-code. The project started with a literature study that gave the author a better insight in both the previous research within the area but also deeper knowledge of the systems CNC mills and robots. The work continued with the development of a software able to import the specified file format. The software has been built in C# and is built as an add-in software for ABB’s offline programming software RobotStudio. The result presents a software that is able to read different types of G-code and translate them into generated paths in RobotStudio. The software also has an inbuilt function in order to parameterize the G02 and G03 commands that represent curves in G-code into straight line segments of the type MoveL in RobotStudio.

Introdução: O Cardiff Acne Disability Index (CADI) é um instrumento originalmente desenvolvido na língua inglesa para mensurar a qualidade de vida de pacientes com acne. Considerando o impacto psicossocial desta doença, é importante dispormos de instrumentos culturalmente e linguisticamente validados para o uso em adolescentes brasileiros. Objetivo: O objetivo deste estudo é traduzir o CADI para o Português falado no Brasil (CADI-PB), adaptá-lo culturalmente e determinar sua confiabilidade e validade em pacientes adolescentes com acne. Métodos: 1) Etapa 1 – Tradução e validação cultural: O CADI foi traduzido e validado linguisticamente para o Português brasileiro (CADI-PB) de acordo com as diretrizes internacionais publicadas. 2) Etapa 2 – Validação: O CADI-PB, juntamente com os escores CDLQI (Índice de Qualidade de Vida em Dermatologia Infantil) e DLQI (Índice de Qualidade de Vida em Dermatologia) foram aplicados em paciente adolescentes (12-20 anos) portadores de acne. O Índice Global de Classificação da Acne (GAGS) foi utilizado para medir a gravidade clínica da doença. A consistência interna do CADI-PB foi avaliada pelo coeficiente alfa de Cronbach e a validade concorrente foi medida pelo coeficiente de correlação de Spearman e Teste T de Student para amostras pareadas. A validade de construto foi examinada por análise fatorial. Resultados: Um total de 100 adolescentes respondeu ao questionário. A versão CADI-PB apresentou boa confiabilidade e consistência interna (coeficiente alfa de Cronbach = 0,73). A validade concorrente da escala foi sustentada por uma correlação forte e significativa com os instrumentos CDLQI/DLQI (rs=0,802;p<0,001). A análise fatorial explanatória revelou a presença de duas dimensões subjacentes que explicam a escala. Conclusões: A versão CADI-PB é uma ferramenta confiável, válida e valiosa para mensurar o impacto da acne na qualidade de vida de pacientes adolescentes.

The Global Acne Grading System (GAGS) was used to measure the clinical severity of the illness. The internal consistency of the CADI-PB was assessed by Cronbach's alpha coefficient and the concurrent validity was measure by the Spearman correlation coefficient and Student's t test for paired samples. Construct validity was assessed by factor analysis. Results: A total of 100 adolescents completed the questionnaire. The CADI-PB version showed good reliability and internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha = 0,73). The concurrent validity of the scale was supported by a strong and significant correlation with CDLQI / DLQI instruments (rs=0.802;p<0.001). Factor analysis revealed the presence of two underlying factor structure of the scale dimensions. Conclusions: CADI-PB version is a reliable, valid and valuable tool to measure the impact of acne on quality of life in adolescent patients.

Especialmente, la EH pertenece a un grupo de patologías producidas por proteínas que contienen expansiones de poliQs (varias ataxias espinocerebelosas, la atrofia muscular bulbar y espinal y la atrofia dentatorubro-pálidoluisiana), que hacen que estos péptidos sean propensos a la agregación, y causen los problemas que hemos descrito. A pesar de que estas enfermedades son genéticas, y se conoce su causa molecular, se cree que la presencia de variantes alélicas en otros genes puede exacerbar o ralentizar la agregación de proteínas con poliQs. Por tanto, la identificación de estos genes permitirá profundizar en los mecanismos moduladores de la dinámica de agregación de poliQs e identificar dianas terapéuticas frente a la toxicidad de poliQs. También es ampliamente conocido que el ARN que porta tripletes CAG tiene carácter patogénico. En este trabajo hemos desarrollado modelos, empleando C. elegans, que muestran signos indirectos de que están expresando transcritos CAG patogénicos, puesto que los tejidos diana están alterados. Usamos uno de estos modelos, que perturba la función de las neuronas GABAérgicas del gusano, para realizar un cribado de 85 compuestos farmacológicos, que nos llevó a identificar cuatro compuestos que reducían los defectos motores en estos animales. Además de poliQs y transcritos CAG, también se producen péptidos derivados de una traducción no canónica, conocida como traducción RAN. En relación a esto, hemos profundizado en la identificación y modelización de estos péptidos en C. elegans mediante la expresión de expansiones CAG fusionadas a proteínas fluorescentes para su detección in vivo. Además hemos empleado otros modelos ya existentes, para caracterizar potenciales dianas terapéuticas, como AMPK, la cual puede ser activada por diferentes sustancias. Sin embargo, algunas sustancias, como la metformina o el salicilato, son pleiotrópicas. Por tanto, hemos caracterizado la activación sinérgica de AMPK, mediante metformina y salicilato, para reducir el estrés por agregados de poliQs, con lo que podríamos evitar que otras dianas resulten activadas. Por último, hemos demostrado que este tratamiento sinérgico reduce la toxicidad inducida por la α -sinucleína implicada en la enfermedad de Parkinson. Por otro lado, hemos caracterizado en C. elegans un nuevo alelo que potencia la la agregación de poliQs, vlt10, en el gen unc-1. Nuestros resultados sugieren que la mutación unc-1(vlt10) perturba la sinapsis eléctrica entre las neuronas sensoriales IL2 y ASJ, induciendo un exceso de señalización hormonal que requiere la función de la sulfotransferasa SSU-1. También hemos demostrado que la diana de esta señal es un receptor nuclear llamado NHR-1. En este mismo capítulo, hemos identificado otra ruta de señalización hormonal, mediada por otro receptor nuclear (DAF-12), que tiene un papel protector. Se desconoce qué hormona modula la actividad de NHR-1. Sin embargo, hemos identificado que algunos de los genes regulados por NHR-1 están relacionados con el metabolismo lipídico. Además, hemos observado que la disrupción de unc-1 induce la acumulación de lípidos en los gusanos, pero a la vez estos animales contienen menos ácidos grasos totales. Esto sugiere que las grasas juegan un papel fundamental en la modulación de la agregación de poliQs, y quizás señala posibles dianas terapéuticas contra enfermedades causadas
[CA] L'equilibri de l'homeòstasi de proteïnes és essencial per a assegurar la funcionalitat cel·lular. L'expressió de proteïnes propenses a plegar-se malament indueix la formació d'agregats tòxics i altera el correcte funcionament dels sistemes de control, cosa que condueix a un desequilibri de l'homeòstasi de proteïnes, i per consegüent a una afectació patològica. Diverses malalties neurodegeneratives, com la malaltia de Huntington (MH), Parkinson i Alzheimer, entre altres, tenen en comú aquesta signatura patològica. Especialment, la MH pertany a un grup de patologies produïdes per proteïnes que contenen expansions de poliQs (s'inclouen diverses atàxies espinocerebel·loses 1, 2, 3, 6, 7 i 17, l'atròfia muscular bulbar i espinal, i l'atròfia dentatorúbrica-pàl·lidaluisiana), que fan que aquests pèptids siguen propensos a l'agregació, i causen els problemes que hem descrit. Malgrat que aquestes malalties són genètiques i es coneix la seva causa molecular, es creu que la presència de variants al·lèliques en gens pot incrementar o alentir l'agregació de proteïnes amb poliQs. Per tant, la identificació de gens modificadors permet aprofundir en els mecanismes moduladors de la dinàmica d'agregació de poliQs ens permet trobar dianes terapèutiques enfront de la toxicitat de poliQs. També és àmpliament conegut que l'ARN que contenen expansions CAG té caràcter patogènic. Per tant, hem desenvolupat models, utilitzant C. elegans, en els quals es mostren signes indirectes que expressen transcrits patogènics, ja que els teixits diana revelen una funcionalitat alterada. Utilitzant aquests models, que alteren la funció de les neurones GABAèrgiques del cuc, hem realitzat un cribratge de 85 compostos farmacològics, que ens va portar a identificar quatre compostos que reduïen els defectes motors en aquests animals. [EN] The balance of protein homeostasis is essential to ensure cellular functionality. The expression of proteins that are prone to misfolding induces the formation of toxic aggregates, which leads to an imbalance in protein homeostasis and pathological consequences. Several neurodegenerative diseases, such as Huntington disease (HD), Parkinson, Alzheimer, among others, have this molecular pathological mark in common. HD belongs to a group of pathologies produced by proteins that contain expansions of polyQs (several spinocerebellar ataxias 1, 2, 3, 6, 7 and 17, bulbar and spinal muscular atrophy and the dentatorubral-pallidoluysian atrophy), which make these peptides prone to aggregation, and cause the problems described above. Although these diseases are genetic, and their molecular cause is known, it is believed that the presence of allelic variants in other genes can exacerbate or slow the polyQ aggregation. Therefore, the identification of these genes will allow delving into the modulating mechanisms of the polyQ aggregation dynamics and find therapeutic targets against the polyQ toxicity. In addition, RNA that contains CAG triplets is pathogenic. In this work we have developed models using C. elegans that show indirect signs of pathogenic transcript expression since altered functionality was observed in target tissues. We use a model, which disturbs the function of the worm's GABAergic neurons, to screen for 85 pharmacological compounds, which led us to identify four compounds that reduced motor defects in these animals. In addition to polyQs and CAG transcripts, also are produced peptides derived from a non-canonical translation, known as RAN translation. In this regard, we have delved into the identification and modelling of these peptides in C. elegans through the expression of CAG expansions fused to fluorescent proteins to investigate them in vivo. Furthermore, we have used models previously generated to characterize potential therapeutic targets, such as AMPK. This enzyme can be activated using different compounds. However, some activators, such as metformin or salicylate, are pleiotropic substances. Therefore, in the second chapter of this thesis, we have characterised the synergistic activation of AMPK, using metformin and salicylate, to reduce the stress induced by polyQ aggregates and prevent possible unwanted targets from being activated. Finally, we have shown that this synergistic treatment could be used to reduce α-synuclein toxicity, which is involved in Parkinson disease. On the other hand, we have characterised a new allele that enhances polyQ aggregation, vlt10, in the unc-1 gene. Our results suggest that the unc-1(vlt10) mutation disturbs the electrical synapse between sensory neurons IL2 and ASJ, inducing an excess of hormonal signalling that requires the function of the sulfotransferase SSU-1. We have also shown that the target of this signal is the nuclear receptor NHR-1. In the same chapter, we have identified another hormonal signalling pathway, mediated by another nuclear receptor (DAF-12), which has a protective role. It is unknown which hormone modulates the activity of NHR-1. However, we have identified several genes that regulate lipid metabolism and whose expression could be modulated by NHR-1. In addition, we have observed that the disruption of unc-1 induces the accumulation of lipids in worms, but at the same time these animals contain less total fatty acids. Thus, our results suggest that the metabolism of fats play a key role in modulating polyQs aggregation, highlighting potential therapeutic targets against diseases caused by aggregation-prone proteins.

iSIGHT-FD manages the computer software required to execute simulation-based design processes, including commercial CAD/CAE software, internally developed programs, and Excel spreadsheets. The software enables the rapid integration of these programs and automates their execution to accelerate the evaluation of many more design alternatives. It provides design exploration and optimization technology to help the user find better designs than those that can be found manually. Inside of this framework, a set of interoperable CAD and CAE components is used to define how changes in the geometry affect the product performance. In the past year Engineous worked with several of its partners to create a seamless and automated process. We will illustrate how to setup and drive geometric changes in CAD models using the translation technologies component in iSIGHT-FD. The user can set loads & boundary conditions on the part/assembly that move with the geometric modifications. The changed geometry with loads & boundary conditions can be automatically meshed and analyzed with FEM solvers and pre/postprocessors. The user is allowed to store and view parametric and non-parametric results for every run. These 3D CAE & CAD results can then be easily embedded into Microsoft office.

Product Life-cycle Management (PLM) has been one of the single most important techniques to have been developed in the manufacturing industry. The increasing capabilities of internet and the ever increasing dependence of business entities on internet have led to the development of metaverses — internet-based 3D virtual worlds — which act as business platforms where companies display and showcase their latest products and services. This is in turn has led to a demand for development of methods for the easy transfer of data from stand alone PLM systems to the internet based virtual worlds. This paper presents the development of a translator which will transfer product data of 3D models created in CAD systems to an internet based virtual world. This translator uses a faceted-surface approach to transfer the product information. In this work CAD models were converted to a CAD-neutral data format, JT file format, and finally recreated in the metaverse Second Life (SL). Examples of models translated from JT to SL have been presented. A technique known as prim optimization, which increases the efficiency of the translation was also incorporated in the algorithm for the translator. Examples of prim optimization have been provided in the paper.

In this paper we present a detailed exploration of ontology-driven approaches and strategies for integrating product data between CAD/CAE applications. We structure the ontology model into three layers: General Domain Ontology, Domain Specific Ontology, and Application Specific Ontology. In particular, Application Specific Ontologies are built for PRO/E, CATIA, and a virtual assembly design tool called VADE. This allows the integration processes to be demonstrated for a) two applications in the common domain of product design, and b) two applications in different domains, one in the product design domain and the other in an assembly simulation domain. In addition, these ontology-driven strategies are compared with two other approaches. The first study focuses on the knowledge modeling aspect and compares the ontology approach with a standard modeling language, UML. The second study focuses on data integration and translation aspect and compares the ontology-driven approach with a traditional one. It is concluded that an ontology-driven approach is superior for solving heterogeneous data problems involving multiple applications by managing data on semantic level.

Collaborative CAD promises to solve the major design challenge facing industry relating to interoperability and design sharing: translation between heterogeneous CAD systems. Translation issues alone account for upwards of $1 billion in costs for the US automotive supply chain. With collaborative CAD, parts and assemblies can be viewed and edited simultaneously by multiple users in geographically diverse locations, without the need to manually export and send models as neutral files. In order to attain interoperability between CAD systems, a neutral format is used to pass data between clients. By expanding the traditional neutral format to include interfaces, the object hierarchy more closely resembles the hierarchy employed by native CAD systems — allowing more feature information, and thus design intent, to be preserved. The interface method also enforces referential integrity in the neutral representation of CAD objects by limiting the type of objects to be referenced to valid objects. Corrupt and invalid data can be caught and corrected before being transferred to other users viewing the CAD model.

Several CAD system independent feature recognition techniques have been developed to drive manufacturing applications. Commercial implementations of these techniques require translating CAD models using STEP or other neutral file formats. With large CAD models found in some application domains; e.g., powertrain machining, corresponding STEP files are also large. This leads to large processing times. Another approach is to use lightweight formats such as STL or VRML. Here, complete & accurate parameter extraction is difficult because these formats approximate surfaces as tessellations. This paper discusses a new methodology for feature recognition, in which a VRML file is used for feature identification. To some extent, parameters of faces with simple surface-types are recovered from the tessellated model. If identified features consist of faces whose parameters are not recovered from the tessellated model, a partial STEP file translation is used for extracting exact parameters. This CAD system independent algorithmic development and implementation reduces the amount of data exported to neutral files, thus leading to more efficient feature recognition.

Abstract:
Leveraging virtual reality (VR) technology to enhance engineering design reviews has been an area of significant interest for researchers since the advent of modern VR. The ability to interact meaningfully with 3D engineering models in these VR design reviews is an important, though often neglected, capability due to the difficulty of performing data translation between native CAD data and VR compatible file formats. An automated synchronization interface was developed between a VR design review environment and a commercial CAD package that stream-lines the data translation process and enables enhanced visualization and manipulation tools. User experiments were performed to explore the hypothesis that allowing users to perform CAD-like view transformations and geometric manipulations in VR design reviews improves design understanding and decision making. Analysis of the experiment results show that enhanced interaction tools provide statistically significant advantages over a baseline VR design review environment for complex 3D models.

In the context of our current planetary crises, in a world that continues to be shaped by capitalist, colonialist, androcentric and anthropocentric visions, we are faced with the urgency of reconsidering, at the deepest levels, the way we relate with other human and nonhuman beings. This working paper aims to contribute towards that end by looking at human-nonhuman relations through the concept of conviviality, understood as the everyday living together with difference, and how it intersects with inequality. In the first part of this paper, more-than-human conviviality-inequality is investigated by critically analyzing onto-epistemological and methodological approaches that question, subvert or reproduce hegemonic thinking and worldviews on humannonhuman relations like historical materialism, new materialisms, transhumanism, posthumanisms, and indigenous relational ontologies. In the second part, I look at particular relational dimensions like incompleteness, translation, and affect, which can help us create new understandings of more-than-human conviviality-inequality in Latin America and beyond.

«The electronic magazine with rating system of an estimation of individual and collective work of students» (EM) is developed in document Microsoft Excel with use of macros. EM allows to automate all the calculated operations connected with estimation of amount scored by students in each form of the current control. EM provides automatic calculation of rating of the student with reflection of a maximum quantity of the points received in given educational group. The rating equal to “1” is assigned to the student who has got a maximum quantity of points for the certain date. For the other students the share of their points in this maximum size is indicated. The choice of an estimation is made in an alphabetic format according to requirements of the European translation system of test units for the international recognition of results of educational outcomes (ECTS - European Credit Transfer System), by use of a corresponding scale of an estimation. The list of students is placed on the first page of magazine and automatically displayed on all subsequent pages. For each page of magazine the optimal size of document printing is set with automatic enter of current date and time. Owing to accounting rate of complexity of task EM is the universal technical tool which can be used for any subject matter.

Abstract:
Subtle aspects of illumination sources and their characterization methods can introduce significant uncertainty into the data gathered from light-activated experiments, limiting their reproducibility and technology transition. Degradation kinetics of methyl orange (MO) and carbamazepine (CM) under illumination with TiO₂ were used as a case study for investigating the role of incident photon flux on photocatalytic degradation rates. Valerophenone and ferrioxalate actinometry were paired with optical radiometry in three different illumination systems: xenon arc (XE), tungsten halogen (W-H), and UV fluorescent (UV-F). Degradation rate constants for MO and CM varied similarly among the three light systems as k W-H < kiv-F < kXE, implying the same relative photon flux emission by each light. However, the apparent relative photon flux emitted by the different lights varied depending on the light characterization method. This discrepancy is shown to be caused by the spectral distribution present in light emission profiles, as well as absorption behavior of chemical actinometers and optical sensors. Data and calculations for the determination of photon flux from chemical and calibrated optical light characterization is presented, allowing us to interpret photo-degradation rate constants as a function of incident photon flux. This approach enabled the derivation of a calibrated ‘rate-flux’ metric for evaluating and translating data from photocatalysis studies.
