Abstract:
The biosorption of cadmium and lead by Penicillium sp. isolated from an uncontaminated soil was studied at different initial metal ions concentrations. The maximum removal yields were obtained at 5 mg/L initial metal concentration. The highest removal yields were 35.67% and 81.99% for cadmium and lead respectively in the single system. In the binary system, the removal yield increased to 90.99% and 97.48% for both metal ions at the same initial concentration. This study has also confirmed that Penicillium sp was able to grow in the presence of both metal ions at different concentrations. In ad

Binding of cadmium(II) on soil fulvic acid (FA) was investigated over a range of fulvate-to-cadmium concentration ratios (8 – 59 equiv. mol−1) using 113Cd NMR spectroscopy. The 113Cd chemical shift of cadmium bound on fulvate was observed in a more downfield region (δ −20.4 to −15.6) than that bound on synthetic polymers, poly(acrylic acid) (PAA: δ −36.6 to −38.2), poly(methacrylic acid) (PMAA: δ −34.0 to −25.4), and poly(vinyl benzoic acid) (PVBA: δ −34.7 to −31.2). The mixed ligand complexes of manganese(II), nickel(II), copper(II), zinc(II), and cadmium(II) involving aspartic acid and benzoic acid have been synthesized. The complexes were studied by various spectroscopic techniques such as infrared, electronic, X-ray diffraction, and magnetic measurements. The complexes were found to have octahedral geometry. The X-ray powder diffraction results show that the crystal systems of Mn(II)-Asp-Ben complex are hexagonal, and Ni(II)-Asp-Ben, Cu(II)-Asp-Ben, Zn(II)-Asp-Ben, and Cd(II)-Asp-Ben complexes are found to be triclinic. ABSTRACT Pseudomonads from environmental sources vary widely in their sensitivity to cadmium, but the basis for this resistance is largely uncharactarized. A chromosomal fragment encoding cadmium resistance was cloned from Pseudomonas putida 06909, a rhizosphere bacterium, and sequence analysis revealed two divergently transcribed genes, cadA and cadR. CadA was similar to cadmium-transporting ATPases known mostly from gram-positive bacteria, and to ZntA, a lead-, zinc-, and cadmium-transporting ATPase from Escherichia coli. CadR was related to the MerR family of response regulators that normal

This is especially evident in the nobility of Hg (E˚ positive for Zn and Cd, negative for Hg), the lack of an Hg hydroxide, the thermal instability of HgO, and the greater stabilities of many Hg complexes as compar
