Abstract:
Vitamin D, which is synthesized in skin exposed to UV light, or is consumed in the diet, plays a key role in maintaining bone integrity via the regulation of calcium and phosphorus homeostasis. It also influences a number of extra-skeletal processes, including immune function and blood glucose homeostasis. Maternal vitamin D deficiency in pregnancy leads to poor fetal skeletal mineralization in utero that can manifest as rickets in newborns. In addition to skeletal effects, women with very low vitamin D status face increased risks of other adverse pregnancy outcomes and possible long-term effe

Abstract:
Attenuation correction minimizes the impact of body habitus on the acquired myocardial count distribution. The superior diagnostic performance of corrected over uncorrected SPECT images is due to improved specificity and normalcy rate. The transmission image used for attenuation correction is obtained using CT or Gd-153 line sources. Artifactual defects may develop with attenuation correction if the transmission image is truncated, of poor count density, significantly contaminated by downscatter or misregistered with the emission image. Attenuation correction can help decrease the radiation ex

This chapter comments on Article 117 of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court. Article 115(a) of the Rome Statute declares that one of the two sources of the funds of the Court shall be assessed contributions made by States Parties. Article 117 recognizes the principle of differential assessment, using the United Nations scale of assessments as the model, but it does not impose a precise formula. The task of specifying the assessed contributions falls, by implication, to the Assembly of States Parties. Each year, the Assembly of States Parties adopts a resolution on the assessme

Bones are multifunctional passive organs of movement that supports soft tissue and directly attached muscles. They also protect internal organs and are a reserve of calcium, phosphorus and magnesium. Each bone is covered with periosteum, and the adjacent bone surfaces are covered by articular cartilage. Histologically, the bone is an organ composed of many different tissues. The main component is bone tissue (cortical and spongy) composed of a set of bone cells and intercellular substance (mineral and organic), it also contains fat, hematopoietic (bone marrow) and cartilaginous tissue.
