Para sistemas físicos apresentando pontos de Lifshitz m-axiais, definimos teorias de campo perturbativas com duas massas independentes e renormalizadas em momentos externos nulos. Provamos a renormalizabilidade multiplicativa dessas teorias na dimensão crítica. Em seguida, calculamos os expoentes críticos anisotrópicos ηL2, νL2, ηL4 e νL4 diagramaticamente, no mínimo, até a ordem de dois "loops"utilizando a aproximação ortogonal. Para esses mesmos sistemas, calculamos os expoentes críticos isotrópicos ηL4 e νL4 na mesma ordem em "loops"usando a aproximação ortogonal. Além do mais, calculamos os expoentes críticos isotrópicos exatamente na mesma ordem em "loops". Todos esses expoentes estão em perfeita concordância com os correspondentes expoentes calculados anteriormente usando teorias de perturbação sem massa renormalizadas em momentos externos arbitrários. Posteriormente, investigamos os comportamentos críticos de sistemas competitivos arbitrários definindo teorias de campo perturbativas com L massas independentes e renormalizadas em momentos externos nulos. Para esse caso, provamos também a renormalizabilidade multiplicativa na dimensão crítica dessas teorias. Calculamos os vários expoentes críticos anisotrópicos e isotrópicos, no mínimo, até a ordem de dois "loops"usando a aproximação ortogonal generalizada. Os expoentes críticos isotrópicos foram calculados exatamente na mesma ordem em "loops". Os resultados para todos esses expoentes concordam perfeitamente com aqueles obtidos para os respectivos expoentes calculados anteriormente usando teorias de perturbação sem massa renormalizadas em momentos externos arbitrários.<br>In this work we investigate the critical behavior of physical systems with arbitrary competing interactions, where we introduce the Callan-Symanzik method for these systems. For physical systems presenting m-axial Lifshitz points, we define perturbative field theories with two independent masses and renormalized at zero external momenta. We prove the multiplicative renormalizability of these theories at the critical dimension. After that, we calculate the anisotropic critical exponents ηL2, νL2, ηL4 and νL4 diagrammatically, at least up to two-loop order utilizing the orthogonal approximation. For these systems, we calculate the isotropic critical exponents ηL4 and νL4 in the same loop order using the orthogonal approximation. Furthermore, we calculate the isotropic critical exponents exactly in the same loop order. All these exponents are in perfect agreement with the respectives exponents calculated before using perturbative massless theories renormalized at nonzero external momenta. After that, we investigate the critical behaviors of arbitrary competing systems defining scalar field theories with L independent masses and renormalized at zero external momenta. For this case, we prove also the multiplicative renormalizability at the critical dimension of these theories. We calculate the various anisotropic and isotropic critical exponents, at least up to two-loop order using the generalized orthogonal approximation. The isotropic critical exponents were calculated exactly in the same loop order as well. The results for all these exponents are the same in comparison with those obtained for the exponents computed before using perturbative massless theories renormalized at arbitrary nonzero external momenta.

El cultiu del silenci com una via per transcendir l’experiència ordinària del món és present en múltiples cultures al llarg de la història, en camps com ara l’espiritualitat, l’estètica o la filosofia. Aquesta tesi estudia les modalitats que adopta aquesta pràctica en el marc de la societat contemporània. Es parteix de la hipòtesi que el silenci com a experiència religiosa –entenent religió en un sentit ampli, com l’àmbit on les persones gestionen les seves experiències de transcendència i donen sentit a la vida– s’han reformulat i popularitzat com a conseqüència de les noves formes de relació que l’individu contemporani estableix tant amb el fenomen del silenci com amb allò transcendent. Aplicant una metodologia qualitativa que combina el treball etnogràfic multisituat amb l’anàlisi sociofenomenològica, i emprant les eines de l’anàlisi documental, l’observació participant i l’entrevista, la recerca s’aproxima a diferents col·lectius per als quals el silenci constitueix un element central en les seves cerques de la transcendència, des de meditadors cristians fins a persones que cultiven el silenci en els àmbits de les religions orientals, les espiritualitats holístiques, l’art, la teràpia o l’activisme social. El primer objectiu de la tesi ha consistit en descriure i analitzar diferents modalitats de pràctica, fixant-se en les narratives, els escenaris o els perfils dels actors implicats. El segon objectiu ha estat interpretar sociològicament aquestes pràctiques posant-les en relació amb l’actual context sociocultural. D’una banda, s’analitza la relació entre l’habitus dels individus i la forma com donen sentit a l’experiència del silenci i la incorporen al seu relat biogràfic. D’altra banda, s’ha traçat el procés de construcció de l’experiència moderna del silenci analitzant com els fenòmens del gir subjectiu, el pluralisme o la disseminació del sagrat han contribuït a conformar-la en les seves modalitats actuals. La tesi constata que el silenci s’ha ressignificat i popularitzat en el marc de la religiositat contemporània, en dos sentits: a) com a experiència: en tant que condició ambiental i psicològica, el silenci actua com un catalitzador de vivències subjectives de transcendència que adquireix protagonisme en diverses modalitats actuals de cultiu de la interioritat; i b) com a símbol transreligiós d’una realitat o experiència transcendent, el silenci ha esdevingut una idea força que identifica i distingeix unes determinades formes de religiositat subjectivitzades, que prioritzen la vivència íntima del sagrat i depassen els marcs de la religió institucionalitzada. Aquest silenci, com a vivència i com a metàfora, es construeix com alternativa tant a la crisi dels llenguatges i les pràctiques de la religió tradicional com, també, als valors i pautes de vida predominants en el capitalisme tardà. A partir dels casos analitzats, la tesi subratlla la dimensió intersubjectiva de les pràctiques de silenci. Aquestes són socials en tant que s’encarnen en significats, rols i pautes construïts i transmesos col·lectivament, però també en la mesura en què sovint són, en termes d’Alfred Schütz, experiències compartides en el vívid present en sintonia amb l’alteritat. La tesi també qüestiona les visions negatives o reduccionistes que atribueixen a les pràctiques de silenci una tendència a l’aïllament, al narcisisme o a l’apatia social i política. La pràctica moderna del silenci no és, necessàriament, una versió actualitzada de la tradicional fuga mundi ni tampoc una expressió de l’atomització i la desmobilització promogudes per l’ethos neoliberal sinó, ben al contrari, una reacció enfront d’aquestes, que promou l’associacionisme, el compromís cívic i l’acció social transformadora. En aquest sentit, a partir del concepte de ressonància de Harmut Rosa, la tesi finalitza reflexionant sobre el paper de l’experiència silenciosa com una resposta potencialment emancipadora enfront de les condicions d’alienació característiques de la tardomodernitat.<br>El cultivo del silencio como vía para transcender la experiencia ordinaria del mundo está presente en múltiples culturas a lo largo de la historia, en campos como la espiritualidad, la estética o la filosofía. Esta tesis estudia las modalidades que adopta esta práctica en la sociedad contemporánea. Partiendo de la hipótesis de que el silencio como experiencia religiosa –entendiendo religión en un sentido amplio, como el ámbito donde las personas gestionan sus experiencias de transcendencia y dan sentido a la vida– se ha reformulado y popularizado como consecuencia de las nuevas formas de relación que el individuo establece con el silencio y con lo transcendente. Aplicando una metodología cualitativa que combina el trabajo etnográfico multisituado con el análisis sociofenomenológico, y empleando las herramientas del análisis documental, la observación participante y la entrevista, la investigación se aproxima a diferentes colectivos para los cuales el silencio constituye un elemento central en sus búsquedas de sentido, desde meditadores cristianos hasta personas que cultivan el silencio en los ámbitos de las religiones orientales, las espiritualidades holísticas, el arte, la terapia o el activismo. El primer objetivo de la tesis ha consistido en analizar diferentes modalidades de práctica, fijándose en las narrativas, los escenarios o los perfiles de los actores implicados. El segundo objetivo ha sido interpretar sociológicamente estas prácticas poniéndolas en relación con su contexto sociocultural. Por un lado, se analiza la relación entre el habitus de los individuos y la forma cómo dan sentido a la experiencia del silencio y la incorporan en su relato biográfico. Por otro lado, se ha trazado el proceso de construcción de la experiencia moderna del silencio analizando cómo los fenómenos del giro subjetivo, el pluralismo o la diseminación de lo sagrado han contribuido a conformarla en sus modalidades actuales. La tesis constata que el silencio se ha resignificado y popularizado en el marco de la religiosidad contemporánea, en dos sentidos: a) como experiencia: en tanto que condición ambiental y psicológica, el silencio actúa como catalizador de vivencias de transcendencia que adquiere protagonismo en diversas modalidades actuales de cultivo de la interioridad; y b) como símbolo transreligioso de una realidad o experiencia transcendente, el silencio ha devenido una idea fuerza que identifica y distingue unas formas de religiosidad subjetivizadas, que priorizan la experiencia íntima de lo sagrado y traspasan los marcos de la religión institucionalizada. Este silencio, como vivencia y como símbolo, se construye como alternativa tanto a la crisis de los lenguajes y prácticas de la religión tradicional como a los modos de vida predominantes en el capitalismo tardío. A partir de los casos analizados, la tesis subraya la dimensión intersubjetiva de las prácticas de silencio. Estas son sociales en tanto que se encarnan en significados, roles y pautas construidos y transmitidos colectivamente, pero también en la medida en que a menudo son, en términos de Alfred Schütz, experiencias compartidas en el vívido presente en sintonía con la alteridad. La tesis cuestiona también las visiones negativas o reduccionistas que atribuyen a las prácticas de silencio una tendencia al aislamiento, al narcisismo o a la apatía social. La práctica moderna del silencio no es, necesariamente, una versión actualizada de la tradicional fuga mundi ni una expresión de la atomización y desmovilización promovidas por el ethos neoliberal, sino que puede ser una reacción frente a estas que promueve el asociacionismo, el compromiso cívico y la acción social transformadora. A partir del concepto de resonancia de Hartmut Rosa, la tesis concluye reflexionando sobre el papel de la experiencia silenciosa como una respuesta potencialmente emancipadora ante las condiciones de alienación de la tardomodernidad.<br>The cultivation of silence in order to transcend ordinary world experience is present in multiple cultures throughout history, in fields such as spirituality, aesthetics, or philosophy. This thesis studies the modalities adopted by this practice within the framework of contemporary society. We start from the hypothesis that silence as a religious experience –understanding religion in a broad sense, as the realm where people manage their experiences of transcendence and give meaning to life– have been reformulated and popularized as a result of the new forms of relationship that the contemporary individual establishes with both the phenomenon of silence and the transcendent. Applying a qualitative methodology that combines a multisituated ethnographic work with a sociophenomenological analysis, and using the tools of documentary analysis, participant observation and interview, the research approaches different groups for which silence constitutes a central element in his pursuits of transcendence, from Christian meditators to people who cultivate silence within the frame of Eastern religions, holistic spiritualities, art, therapy, or social activism. The first objective of the thesis was to describe and analyze different modalities of practice, focusing on the narratives, scenarios or profiles of the actors involved. The second goal has been to interpret these practices sociologically by relating them to the current sociocultural context. On the one hand, it analyzes the relationship between the habits of individuals and the way in which they give meaning to the experience of silence and incorporate it into their biographical account. On the other hand, the process of constructing the modern experience of silence has been traced by analyzing how the phenomena of the subjective turn, pluralism or the dissemination of the sacred have contributed to shaping it in its current modalities. The thesis states that silence has been re-signified and popularized within the framework of contemporary religiosity, in two ways: a) as an experience: as an environmental and psychological condition, silence acts as a catalyst for subjective experiences of transcendence that acquires prominence in several current modalities of cultivation of the interiority; and b) as a transreligious symbol of a transcendent reality or experience, silence has become a force idea that identifies and distinguishes some subjectivized forms of religiosity, which prioritize the intimate experience of the sacred and go beyond the framework of institutionalized religions. This silence, as an experience and as a metaphor, is constructed as an alternative both to the crisis of the languages and practices of traditional religion and, also, to the values and patterns of life predominant in late capitalism. Based on the cases analyzed, the thesis emphasizes the intersubjective dimension of silence practices. These are social insofar as they are embodied in meanings, roles and patterns constructed and transmitted collectively, but also insofar as they are often, in terms of Alfred Schütz, shared experiences in the present vivid in a tuning-in relationship with otherness. The thesis also questions negative or reductionist views that attribute to silence practices a tendency to isolation, narcissism, or social and political apathy. The modern practice of silence is not necessarily an updated version of the traditional fuga mundi nor an expression of the atomization and demobilization promoted by the neoliberal ethos but, on the contrary, a reaction against them, which promotes associationism, civic engagement and transformative social action. In this sense, based on Harmut Rosa's concept of resonance, the thesis ends by reflecting on the role of silent experience as a potentially emancipatory response to the conditions of alienation characteristic of late modernity.<br>Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. This thesis deals with the characteristics of teaching method of the Callan School and the possibility of its adaptation in the Czech Republic. The research work is carried out using standardized research methods: PEST analysis of the environment in the Czech Republic in relation to organizing language courses; research of mentality of inhabitants of the Czech Republic and their relationship to education and teaching of foreign languages; SWOT analysis and description of the Callan and the other methods. The main contribution of the thesis is to evaluate the possibility of adaptation of new methods in the Czech Republic with regard to local customs and possibilities of population. The thesis also contains description and philosophy of the Callan method for familiarizing readers with its essential features.

This thesis explores Audrey Thomas's adaptation of Impressionist methodologies to analyse verbal discourse. It confirms that Impressionism is the major visual influence on Thomas's work, and clarifies the complex relationship between the tenets of the movement and Thomas's literary concerns. Since the author's intentions in using visual methodologies are most clearly and thoroughly formulated in Latakia and Intertidal Life, the principal analytic focus of this study is these two texts. First Thomas's critical understanding of Impressionism is verified, and the tenets of the movement which are central to Thomas's writing are defined. Once the sociopolitical issues backgrounding Thomas's adaptation of Impressionism are clarified, the author's actual application of the visual methodologies to challenge both social alienation and the alienating characteristics of verbal communication are analysed. This thesis proves that an understanding of Thomas's adaptation of Impressionism is necessary for a thorough comprehension of her struggle against the sociopolitical infringements of her own artistic medium.

El proyecto de investigación titulado experiencias de las madres en la desinfección solar del agua para consumo humano. Centro Poblado Menor de Callanca - Monsefú 2019. Cuyo objetivo fue describir, analizar y comprender las experiencias de las madres en la desinfección solar de agua para consumo humano. Se sustentó en los conceptos de: Experiencias según King (1994), familia según López (2007), Agua segura según la Organización Mundial De Salud (2011) y desinfección solar según Meierhofer R y Wegelin (2016). Investigación cualitativa, de abordaje metodológico estudio de caso. Tuvo como objeto de estudio las experiencias de las madres en la desinfección solar del agua. Se utilizó el método de saturación para determinar la muestra, como técnica de recolección de datos en una entrevista semi estructurada. Los datos recibieron un tratamiento basado en el análisis de contenido, obteniendo 4 categorías: A) Aprendizaje del método SODIS a través de la ONG y sesiones educativas B) Procedimiento del método SODIS aplicado por las madres. C) Beneficios experimentados con el método SODIS: Ahorro de tiempo y dinero; Evitar parasitosis y EDAS. Además la investigación tuvo en cuenta los principios bioéticos de Sgrecia (2007) y los criterios de rigor científico de Hernández (2010). Concluyendo decimos que la experiencia de las madres sobre la desinfección del agua con los rayos solares fue beneficiosa por su efecto sinérgico que produce los rayos solares para eliminar los patógenos microbianos y reducir las enfermedades diarreicas.

En la actualidad las empresas para que logren obtener una identificación propia deben enfocarse en la calidad del servicio al cliente, con el cambio constante de la prestación de servicios y la innovación se tiene que lograr que los clientes se encuentren satisfechos, más aún si es un restaurante donde la calidad es un factor primordial en la empresa. Para que un restaurante logre la calidad en su servicio, este debe cumplir con las necesidades y expectativas de sus clientes, ya que ellos son lo más importante y quienes determinan que tan bueno es el servicio ofrecido por un establecimiento en particular, para conocer cuáles son las necesidades y expectativas de los clientes, y así poder ofrecer un servicio de alta calidad en un restaurante, es necesario medir las percepciones de los clientes con respecto a conceptos específicos que constituyan el servicio en general. El objeto de estudio de este trabajo de investigación fueron los clientes del Centro de Esparcimiento POLITA S.A.C – Callanca – Lambayeque, se realizó un investigación de tipo descriptiva en donde se seleccionó una muestra representativa de la población de clientes que acuden al restaurante para aplicarles cuestionarios, los cuales tenían como objeto medir la percepción de los clientes sobre la calidad en el servicio ofrecido por el restaurante. A partir de la información obtenida del análisis de los resultados se formularon una serie de conclusiones relacionadas con el tema. Además, se generaron varias recomendaciones que pueden ser de ayuda para el desempeño de las operaciones del restaurante y así aumentar la calidad en el servicio.<br>Tesis

Publicación a texto completo no autorizada por el autor<br>Evalúa el efecto del hongo Auricularia delicata sobre el parásito Trypanosoma cruzi. A. delicata fue colectado en el Departamento de Huánuco-Tingo María en los meses de octubre a diciembre del 2010. En el laboratorio los basidiosomas se deshidrataron, dejaron en etanol al 96° por 15 días hasta obtener un residuo sólido, el cual se denominó extracto alcohólico de A. delicata. También se evaluó el efecto del extracto provenientes de cultivos líquidos de A. delicata (E0-E10) que fueron incubados a diferentes tiempos (0, 6, 12, 18, 24, 30, 36, 42, 48 y 60). La acción tripanocida se evaluó con el estadio de tripomastigote de T.cruzi. El extracto etanólico del basidiosoma presentó un efecto tóxico en una concentración de 3 mg/ml causando un 98.82% de mortalidad a las 48 horas. Con el extracto E6 y E7 del cultivo líquido se obtuvo una mortalidad del 100% y 99.64 %. Ambos extractos se encontraron en la fase estacionaria según la evaluación de la biomasa. El extracto del cultivo líquido (100 % con 3 mg/ml) mostró mayor mortalidad que el extracto del basidiosoma (98.82% en la misma concentración), lo cual sugiere que los compuestos activos de A. delicata están presentes tanto en el cultivo líquido como en el basidiosoma.<br>Tesis

El dictamen pericial constituye uno de los medios probatorios más importantes en el arbitraje de construcción, en vista que el perito a través de su experiencia y conocimiento2 examina técnicamente los actos y los hechos invocados por las partes. En otras palabras, la función del perito es la de “separar la paja del trigo”, indicando qué afirmaciones tienen fundamento técnico a partir de la documentación registrada en el proyecto y cuáles constituyen anécdotas carentes de sustento. Mediante el presente artículo, describiremos el camino que tiene que recorrer el perito en los arbitrajes de construcción. Asimismo, propondremos recomendaciones que le permitan mantener su solvencia técnica, independencia e imparcialidad durante el proceso de preparación del dictamen pericial. Como último punto, examinaremos su participación en la Audiencia Probatoria.

La tesis titulada “Una travesía de la emociones al afecto en las prácticas de Poliamor. O lo que las palabras callaban sobre el cuerpo”, explora la relación entre la Psicología Social y los Estudios del Afecto, en un escenario muy concreto como son las prácticas de poliamor en Catalunya. Para tal efecto la tesis incluye un primer grupo de cuatro textos publicados, que introducen a las futuras lectoras al Giro Afectivo, sus orígenes y relaciones con otras matrices de producción de conocimiento. En una segunda parte de la tesis la lectora encontrará dos capítulos más en los cuales en base al marco teórico presentado, se analizan datos extraídos de un proceso de tipo etnográfico para mostrar dos posibles líneas de conexión entre los Estudios del Afecto y la Psicología Social. La autora realiza tres propuestas concretas: la transición de la monogamia al poliamor entendido como un proceso afectivo liminal; el desarrollo de un proceso analítico al que la autora ha denominado Palabras Carnales, esto es, un análisis de las palabras centrado en las relaciones materiales que tienen lugar en el cuerpo de las personas que practican el poliamor y la identificación de un proceso denominado Domesticación del afecto entendido como el adiestramiento del cuerpo en concordancia con el proyecto político del poliamor. Finalmente este trabajo también reconoce la ausencia de estudios del poliamor centrados en los procesos corpóreos e inicia el camino para cubrir dicha ausencia.<br>The thesis entitled "A journey from emotions to affect on Polyamory practices. Or what words were silent about the body", explores the relationship between Social Psychology and Affect Studies, in a very specific practices such as Polyamory in Catalunya. To this end, the thesis includes a first group of four published papers that introduce readers to the so called Affective Turn, its origins and relations with other matrices production of knowledge. In a second part of the thesis the reader will find two chapters based on the presented theoretical framework and the data from the ethnographic process, in order to display two possible lines of connection between the Studies of Affect and Social Psychology. The author makes three specific proposals: the transition of monogamy to polyamory understood as a Liminal Affective Process; the development of an analytical process to which the author has called Flesh Words, this is, an analysis of words focused on the material relationships that occur in the body of people who practice polyamory and the identifying of a process called Taming of Affect treated as the training of the body in accordance with the political project of polyamory. Finally this paper acknowledges the lack of studies focusing on bodily processes of polyamory and starts the road to cover this absence.

A ciento treinta años de la conquista española, el resultado que surgió de la interacción entre dos grupos culturales (indígena y español) fue el mestizaje; elemento que trascendió lo biológico, halló un espacio fértil en la cultura. Una nueva configuración se implantó en el imaginario: Ideas, prácticas y saberes. Elementos subversivos en la boca de sujetos que son considerados inmaduros. The Paracas (900 BC-AD 1) of south coastal Peru are widely recognized for ceramics bearing patterned designs created fromincised clay that was often post-fire painted. Analyses of containers, effigies, figurines and musical instruments recovered intactin tombs, have centered largely on temporal and iconographic concerns, and in evaluating prestige. A number of archaeologicalcontexts offer an alternative view of ceramics and their role in public and domestic spheres. In this paper, the role of ceramics inritual offerings is discussed and analyzed in tandem with the other forms and mediums they accompany. The contexts for theseofferings differ from those of funerary ritual in which whole vessels are placed with the dead. These analyses indicate that the endcycle of ceramics is diverse, that their substance is valued in whole and fragmentary form, and that their spatial orientation issignificant. Insights are offered into how ceramics as substances interact and complement other materials in offerings and howthis bears upon our interpretation of specific iconographies and design symbols and their respective meanings.<br>Los paracas (900 a.C.-1 d.C.) son ampliamente reconocidos por su cerámica, que luce patrones de diseño que van desde la arcillaincisa hasta la pintura post cocción. El análisis de las vasijas, efigies, figurillas e instrumentos musicales intactos recuperados enlas tumbas centró durante mucho tiempo la atención en asuntos cronológicos e iconográficos, y en la evaluación del prestigio de lasmismas. En este trabajo, examinaré el papel de la cerámica en ofrendas rituales y la analizaré conjuntamente con las otrasformas y medios que la acompañaban. El contexto de estas ofrendas difiere de aquellos rituales funerarios en los cuales se enterraronobjetos enteros con los muertos. El análisis indica que el ciclo terminal de la cerámica era diverso, que ella era en esencia valoradaen sus formas entera y fragmentaria, y que su orientación espacial era importante. Este artículo ofrece una nueva perspectiva decómo la cerámica, como sustancia, complementa a —e interactúa con— los restantes materiales de las ofrendas, y cómo esto se transmite en la interpretación que hacemos de iconografías y símbolos de diseño específicas, y sus significados respectivos.

This creative project consists of a documentary about how two Taiwanese immigrant families try to maintain Taiwanese culture in the United States. One is a Taiwanese family, and the other is a biracial family (mother is Taiwanese and the father is Caucasian). Even though their family backgrounds are different, both families wish to maintain the Taiwanese culture and teach their children to be proud of their identity.<br>Department of Telecommunications

Several different approaches to renormalization are studied. The Callan-Symanzik equation is derived and we study its beta functions. An effective potential for the Coleman-Weinberg model is studied to find that the beta function is positive and that spontaneous symmetry breaking will occur if we expand around the classical field. Lastly we renormalize a non-abelian gaugetheory to find that the beta function in QCD is negative.

The Western regional magazine Sunset has been published under a series of owners and publishers since 1898. In 1928, Sunset was purchased by Lawrence Lane, a Midwestern magazine executive who transformed it from a failing turn-of-the-century, general interest publication about the West, into a successful magazine about living in the West for the Western middle-class. Sunset had always been a magazine for men and women, and one that appealed to both male and female intellectuals at the time Lane purchased it. Lane and his editors attempted to interject more rigid middle-class ideals into a magazine that had espoused ideas that were progressive and less structured. Lane's new strategy to compartmentalize Sunset's content into its four categories—gardening, the home, cooking, and travel—resulted in a magazine that was conventionally gendered. Tension due to this shift played out in the publication's new cooking department. This thesis traces the development of Sunset's cooking department between 1928 and 1938 under the direction of its creator and founding editor Genevieve Callahan through the examination and analysis of Sunset cooking features and oral histories. The original department, structured to model a middle-class domestic ideology, did not accommodate all of Sunset's readers. The Western intellectualism of pre-Lane readers and their tendency to be less bound by conventional gender roles in the kitchen carried over into Sunset's cooking department via reader recipe contributions. These Western cooks included men and women whose foodways deviated from that of the typical middle-class housewife. Callahan experimented throughout the cooking department's first decade by shifting its editorial framework and softening her home economics rigidity to create a department that was inclusive of women and men who cooked both inside and outside the kitchen. The changes made to the department over that decade illustrate how editorial experimentation reconciled a new middle-class-oriented cooking department to accommodate Western cooks less apt to model traditional gender roles.

This item is only available electronically.<br>The Neoproterozoic to Cambro-Ordovician sediments of the Adelaide Rift Complex (formerly Adelaide Geosyncline) have been the focus of extensive investigation. Despite this, comparatively little is known about the Earliest Adelaidean Callanna Group sediments, due to their sparse preservation in outcrop geology. Exposure of the Callanna Group, and structures related to early Cryogenian graben formation at Arkaroola, in the northern Flinders Ranges, provides a unique opportunity to unravel the local geometries of rift initiation. These rocks have been subjected to multiple intracontinental deformations, most notably the Delamerian Orogeny. Through detailed structural mapping and analysis it is possible to propose models of tectonic evolution for this area. Previous regional scale mapping of the northern Flinders Ranges has identified a disparity between the tectonic history of the Arkaroola Basin and broader northern Flinders Ranges. The nature of the rifting and orogenic evolution of the Arkaroola Basin is determined though analysis of field data, rock samples in thin section and EBSD analysis. Graben formation accommodated an initial period of clastic and evaporitic deposition, followed by rift related basalt extrusion. This was followed by several phases of localised rifting and deposition, controlled by evolving fault geometries. Broad-scale orthogonal folding has folded an earlier composite fabric in conjunction with bedding. This initially planar fabric, most notable in the Woodnamoka Phyllite, formed during peak metamorphism of at least 500° C and approximately 3 kbars and is primarily attributed to burial beneath a thick pile of rift and sag phase sediments, coupled with a change in horizontal stresses. This is loosely constrained to post-rift cessation and before a previously indentified thermal pulse, ca 440 Ma. A set of NE-SW trending faults in the basin have been identified as En echelon stepovers of the Paralana Fault system, responsible for the formation of the pull-apart geometries. Master of Science (Petroleum Geoscience) by coursework.<br>The Officer Basin represents one of the last remaining onshore frontier exploration areas in Australia. It has potential to contain several very large oil fields within horsts capped by thick salt. The pre-salt trap within the Callanna Group in eastern Officer Basin has never been studied because of lack seismic coverage and deep well controls. The Callanna Group sequence upward consists of Pindyin Sandstone and Alinya shale-salt-dolomite. Some oil shows have been correlated to Alinya shale source rock. The full sequence was intersected by three wells drilled recently, one in the eastern and two wells in western parts of the basin. These intersected units are well-correlated with its type section based on lithology, superposition and wireline logs. The Pindyin Sandstone shows primary porosity and permeability and the overlying salts are thick and seismically mappable. Though these wells failed to find hydrocarbon accumulations, they have significantly improved the understanding the petroleum potential in the basin. The salt related structures in eastern Officer Basin are not as common as in Western Officer, Amadeus, Flinders Ranges, Eastern Siberia and South Oman Basins. The salt in eastern Officer Basin has been mobilized, while the salt in the western part of the basin is relatively stable. Salt features have been identified including salt anticlines, salt thickening and salt withdrawal collapse structures. At least seven salt anticlines are present but the outlines are uncertain because of poor seismic quality and coverage. They might have potential traps for the younger reservoir rocks e.g Murnaroo and Tarlina Sandstone. This study focuses on pre-salt hydrocarbon trap identification and evaluation (Pindyin Lead) through seismic mapping. Four structural time and depth maps have been generated and a total of 24 Pindyin Leads identified. The leads were classified into four groups: 1) a simple anticline, 2) drag rollover or anticline associated with reverse fault, 3) a gentle anticline or rollover associated with tilted graben due to an igneous intrusion or normal fault reactivation (reversed) and 4) Pindyin on-lapping against the sealing faults bounding the graben. The best pre-salt structural trap would be the simple anticline which has four way dip closure but it is not common in the basin and very deep to the target. The exploration should focus to identify this type of pre-salt play down dip the Murnaroo Platform where the depth to the Pindyin Sandstone is reachable. The second best Pindyin Lead is a gentle anticline in Manya and Wintinna Troughs, but it was defined by inadequate seismic controls. The most common pre-salt structural trap is a drag rollover or anticline associated with reverse faults, but it has high risk of the fault breach and poor reservoir rocks. This item is only available electronically.<br>The rift and deformational evolution of the Adelaide Fold Belt’s northern-most extent, the northern Flinders Ranges, has received comparatively little attention than that of the southern Adelaide Fold Belt. The Arkaroola area, located in the mid-north northern Flinders Ranges, exposes the lowermost Adelaidean stratigraphy of this rift complex, the Callanna and lower Burra Groups, in a near complete sedimentary sequence. The rift history of this stratigraphy is complex, with deposition being largely controlled by the northeast-southwest orientated Paralana Fault and similarly orientated local growth faults. Locally, the Paralana Fault deviates from its regional orientation and forms a north-south striking segment, which under a considered sinistral strike-slip regime during extension would potentially create localised transtension in a ‘releasing bend’ environment. Rifting in the Arkaroola area is therefore considered to be analogous to the formation of a pull-apart basin. U-Pb dating of detrital zircons from the Paralana Quartzite, Humanity Seat Formation and Blue Mine Conglomerate from the Callanna and lower Burra groups yields ages that are comparable to local source regions the Gawler Craton, Mount Painter Basement Complex and the Curnamona Province, and suggest proximal derivation during early rift phases. Sm-Nd bulk rock analysis on the finer grained Woodnamoka Formation implies derivation from the Mount Painter Basement Complex or the upper Willyama Supergroup of the Curnamona Province, the latter of which potentially suggests a more distal provenance region outside of the Australian continent. Deformation in the northern Flinders Ranges has previously been largely ascribed to the ca. 500 Ma Delamerian Orogeny. However, the Arkaroola area exhibits complex deformation not observed in the directly overlying gently folded stratigraphy. Reactivation of pull-apart rift structures during transpression is considered a possible mechanism for producing and localising such deformation. The possibility of an early Neoproterozoic deformational event occurring prior to deposition of the lesser-deformed overlying stratigraphy is also considered, but in lieu of an unequivocal orogenic unconformity, cannot be confidently ascribed. The long-established tradition of harmony has been incapable of fulfilling the needs of composer’s creation, thus the development of atonal, twelve-tone; polyphony as well as other innovative elements are introduced. Federico Mompou Dencausse (1893-1987), a Spanish composer living in the drastic and fast-changing period in music history of the nineteenth century to the twentieth century, chose to follow the musical ideas of Claude Debussy (1862-1918) and Eric Satie (1866-1925). Mompou’s music style, which is inherited from the essence of French music whist integrating with Spanish element of his own, has paved the way and laid the foundation wrote for Spanish music in twentieth century. Besides the preface and the conclusions, this report contains discussions of three chapters. The first chapter introduces Mompou’s life and his musical experience, and the second chapter is an overview of Mompou&apos;&apos;s composition period as well as some discussion of the Mompou’s composition style from the perspective of his piano works. The third chapter focuses on the compositional background and an in-depth analysis of the Mumsica Callada.

Las crónicas de Pedro Lemebel constituyen una intervención polémica en el campo de los discursos de la Historia (entendida según el paradigma epistemológico de corte positivista) al narrar la historia reciente de Chile en el marco de la transición hacia la democracia (1990-2010). En ello están comprometidos procedimientos literarios que hacen de las crónicas lemebelianas una obra original y en permanente vínculo problemático con otras discursividades, como el periodismo y la no-ficción. Las crónicas de Lemebel se configuran en tres tensiones: historia / ficción, crónica / poesía y escritura / oralidad.

This thesis deals with the twentieth century Brazilian writer Antônio Callado and his novels written during the Brazilian dictatorship. The aim of this work is to bring the author's literary work, which has not been translated into Czech yet, closer to the Czech reader. Based on the historical context of the Brazilian military dictatorship in 1964-1985, we deal with the urban and rural left-wing resistance, which was quickly suppressed. Further, we focus on how dictatorship and censorship have influenced artistic creation. Subsequently, we concentrate on the author's life and the analysis of three selected works written and published during the dictatorship. The analysis seeks to find out how Callado represented the Brazilian leftist movements in these three novels: Kuarup (Quarup, 1967), Reflections of the Ball (Reflexos do Baile, 1976), Don Juan's Bar (Bar Don Juan, 1971).

This item is only available electronically.<br>The lowermost Adelaidean sequences exposed to the immediate north of Arkaroola are unusual as they exhibit a localised complexity of deformation and elevated metamorphic grade that is not observed elsewhere in the Adelaide Fold Belt. Deformation and metamorphism in Arkaroola is thought to have formed as part of the Delamerian Orogen approximately 515-490 Ma. The timing of deformation and metamorphism however is poorly constrained in this area. This paper aims to discuss the structural and metamorphic conditions in the area to determine if there was a possibility of a pre or post-Delamerian structural and/or thermal event. A section was mapped to the North-East of the Arkaroola Homestead to gain an insight into the structural and metamorphic conditions of the area. Samples were collected from the field and used for microstructural analysis. An Electron Microprobe, Laser Ablation Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometer and an XRF spectrometer were used for geochemical analysis on the samples. Structural and stratigraphic observations combined with microstructural analysis of samples from the field helped the author create an interpreted geological history of the area. Graben formation accommodated an initial period of sediment deposition followed by basalt extrusion. Several phases of localised rifting and deposition followed this initial deposition period due to changing fault geometries. A mineral fabric that occurs parallel to bedding is seen throughout the study area. This fabric is overgrown and included in prominent cordierite porphyroblasts that formed during peak metamorphism of ≥500 °C at a pressure of approximately ~1.30kbars. These pressure and temperature conditions were primarily due to the burial beneath a thick cover of sediments. A number of faults trending in a NE-SW direction have been identified as splays from the Paralana fault system. The strike-slip movement of the Paralana Fault along with the high heat producing basement of the Mount Painter Inlier has controlled the localised structural complexity and elevated metamorphic grade in the Arkaroola area.<br>Thesis (B.Sc.(Hons)) -- University of Adelaide, School of Physical Sciences, 2013

<p>We have developed a method of calculating the Gruneisen parameter, γ ≡ ∂lin<i>J</i>/∂lnν (J - exchange splitting; ν - molar volume), for energy splittings that are due to atoms exchanging lattice sites in fermionic systems for which the exchange splittings are small compared with the lattice kinetic and potential energies. The method involves making two separate path integral Monte Carlo calculations, one for a path (sequence of particle positions in time) that doesn't involve atoms exchanging lattice sites, and one for a path in which the atoms do exchange lattice sites. The difference between a quantity calculated for the two systems is related to the Gruneisen parameter.</p> <p>The central results of this thesis are firstly, that there is no significant variation of the Gruneisen parameters for two, three and four particle exchange (γ₂, γ₃ and γ₄, respectively) for solid ³He, in going from 24 cm³/mole, which is near melting, to 22 cm³/mole. This result was extended to 20 cm³/mole for γ₂. Since no significant variation was observed, the values calculated for different molar volumes were combined to give best estimates for the Gruneisen constants, γ₂ = 15.9 ± .8, γ₃ = 16.4 ± 1.4 and γ₄ = 13.8 ± 1.5. The second result is that the magnitudes of the Gruneisen parameters are very similar for the three types of exchange despite their significantly different geometry. Some very limited runs were done for a system of hard spheres. It is interesting that for the hard sphere diameter chosen, the Gruneisen parameters are of the same order as for solid ³He, γ₂ = 21.7 ± .8, γ₃ = 16.8 ± 2.1 and γ₄ = 19.3 ± 1.9 for the small test systems checked. The final result relates to ³He deposited on a graphite surface. The Gruneisen parameter for three particle exchange for a two-dimensional system with a triangular mesh is found to be consistent with γ₃ = 50 ± 5 for a range of nearest-neighbor, lattice spacings from 3.2 Å to 3.6 Å. This is inconsistent with experiment, indicating that three particle exchange confined to two dimensions does not account for the ferromagnetic properties of this system, as was claimed previously.</p>

This study examines the factors contributing to patient mortality and discharges in a large Australian mental institution, Callan Park Hospital for the Insane in Sydney, over the late nineteenth and early-twentieth centuries. New South Wales asylums during this period had multiple roles in public welfare provision, including significant responsibilities for the care of the aged, alcoholics, neurological conditions, and sufferers from end-stage syphilis. These responsibilities included medical care in hospital wards for patients who had a wide variety of serious and often fatal organic conditions. This spectrum of functions has been overlaid in historical and popular memory by the gloomier accounts of the more specialised (in terms of caring for affective disorders) mass institutions of later years, oral histories and fictional stereotypes. Without this now largely forgotten history, and the disaggregation of death rates by medical condition, the causes of the mortality gap for mental patients, trends in diagnosis over time, and the then broad perception of insanity, cannot be fully understood. Previous relevant Australian studies have been predominantly qualitative and have only presented aggregate figures on mortality and discharges. The very high mortality rates for virulent diseases common in asylums at the time but which are now far less prevalent, such as General Paralysis of the Insane, or tuberculosis, have significantly complicated comparisons between historic death rates for the mentally ill and contemporary death rates. These complexities obscure historical understanding of the functions and effectiveness of a mental institution of this kind. To inform my research, I have compiled two parallel samples drawn from the patient records held at the NSW State Archives Collection. The Deaths sample is based on a one-in-twenty selection of deceased patients, comprising 152 patients, 100 men and 52 women. The Discharges sample was taken using the same sampling ratio; it comprises 127 men and 127 women. There are 406 sets of patient records in total in the samples, 227 for males and 179 for females. I look to the international literature for more detailed and specific analyses of mortality and discharges in comparable periods. Such comparisons are difficult because of varying diagnostic procedures and cultural practices, but the methodologies used in the international studies have nevertheless been helpful for my analyses. I also use some more modern approaches to assessing mortality, such as Potential Years of Life Lost (PYLL), which have been little mentioned in historical writing on mental health care, although are in extensive use today in analyses of the effectiveness of hospital and medical care. I reinforce my arguments by examining the influence of nutrition and medical treatments on patient health, aspects which are less often discussed in the historiography of institutional mortality. This thesis substantially broadens and deepens our historical understanding of mental health care in Australia, before a sad period of severe underfunding and understaffing during the Great Depression and for many years afterwards.

This item is only available electronically.<br>The lowermost sediments of the Adelaide Supergroup near Arkaroola display pronounced structural complexity and anomalously high metamorphic grade. The timing of the structures, fabrics and metamorphism in the region remain unconstrained, although all are currently interpreted to have occurred during the Delamerian Orogeny. Monazite U/Pb geochronology provides a useful technique for dating amphibolites facies rocks and, combined with map scale and micro structural observations, suggests the peak metamorphism and at least one deformation event occurred significantly earlier than the Delamerian Orogeny. Monazite derived 206Pb/238U age estimates place the timing of peak metamorphism at 705.2±7.4 Ma with observations from thin section revealing a bedding parallel fabric pre-dating peak metamorphism. U/Pb analysis also reveals a second monazite growth event at 644.2±8 Ma the cause of which is hypothesised to be fluid related. Regional folding and axial planar fabric generation post-dates this metamorphism and can be seen to overprint the earlier fabric and wrap the cordierite porphyroblasts. This final deformation event remains largely unconstrained as in situ dating of monazite was not possible in this study. The inferred parasitic relationship between the folds within the studied region and the Arkaroola Syncline which folds the youngest sediments in the Adelaidian Sequence allows for the deposition to be constrained subsequent to the conclusion of the Adelaide Rift Complex.<br>Thesis (B.Sc.(Hons)) -- University of Adelaide, School of Physical Sciences, 2013

The art historian Charles Callahan Perkins (1823–1886) taught Boston elites to embrace early Italian Renaissance art, and, in so doing, transformed the cultural landscape of his city. Mostly Unitarian in their religious beliefs, the local elites had previously spurned Italian paintings and sculpture of the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries for their Roman Catholicism. However, when the new Museum of Fine Arts opened on July 4, 1876, the institution displayed close to one hundred art objects of the period, mostly copies. Perkins, who had returned recently from twenty-five years in Europe as an acclaimed scholar and illustrator of early Italian Renaissance sculpture and an expert in fine arts museums, was responsible for this result. Perkins focused on art whose “visual rhetoric” reflected the early Italian Renaissance humanist belief in clarity of line and subject as the most pleasing and edifying in art. These Renaissance principles emerged in his view from classical rhetoric, that is strategies for persuasive spoken and written communication, which had long been the core curriculum of Harvard University where Boston elites studied. Perkins also capitalized on the city’s taste for classical sculpture by privileging quattrocento sculpture, which, while more devotional in subject than had traditionally been displayed, did feature a naturalism that evoked ancient art. Chapter one presents four biographical case studies of individuals who were important players in shaping the fertile cultural ground upon which Perkins built a generation later. Chapter two forges the link between classical rhetoric and the fine arts in ante-bellum Boston. Chapter three examines the broad-based revival of early Italian Renaissance art that Perkins encountered in mid-century Europe. Chapter four assesses his own professional oeuvre within that context. The concluding chapter demonstrates how Perkins revamped ideas of what constituted fine art and how it could be viewed by positioning early Renaissance art at the new Museum as a powerful visually rhetorical tool, thus achieving a far more wide-reaching cultural change than previous scholarship has suggested.

Membership is declining, less children are baptised While new and unknown demands will be made on the church, new and exciting opportunities will also be met each year, and less members are confirmed. This crisis, together with the influence of the post- modernism, is explored using an operational science approach, and a possible solution to this problem is sought. The church growth model ofK.L. Callahan is used to facilitate this research. The applicability of this model to the Dutch Reformed Church of Africa is explored, together with the practical theological implications thereof on the holy community. The result of the study is that the Dutch Reformed Church of Africa can apply Callahan' s model to great affect, while cognisance should be taken of the church's own structure, tradition and history.<br>Practical Theology<br>Th. This thesis explores ideas about the deep past in Australia in the context of contemporary notions of geological heritage, cultural property, cultural identity and antiquity. Moving between disciplines, localities, stories and timescales it examines the complexities of changing intellectual agenda. But it does not pretend to present a complete history of the earth sciences in Australia. Rather it brings together an array of related themes, places, and stories, that knit into a narrative about the construction and interpretation of signs of age in Australian landscapes. Taking as its starting point the discovery by European settlers in 1830 of the Wellington Caves megafaunal fossils, which first suggested a long chronology for Australian vertebrate fauna, this work considers 'ordinary time' and 'deep time', geological heritage, the appropriation and celebration of deep time by settler Australians, and the naturalisation of narrative and sequence in geological writing. The body of the thesis involves discussion of three landscapes which have been celebrated for the deep pasts revealed in their sediments, landforms and material remains: Hallett Cove and Lake Callabonna in South Australia and the Willandra Lakes in New South Wales. Each of these is regarded as more or less canonical in the respective histories of Australian geology, vertebrate palaeontology and archaeology, but each is also a living historical and geological site where people have lived, interacted with and interpreted the shape of the country for upwards of forty thousand years.<br>In 2010, material in this thesis was reworked and published as Pictures of time beneath: science, heritage and the uses of the deep past (CSIRO Publishing, Collingwood, Victoria): http://www.publish.csiro.au/pid/6342.htm.

Text in Afrikaans<br>In teenstelling met die buiteland, bestaan daar tans weinig indien enige voltydse gemeenteboukonsultante in Suid- Afrika. Daar bestaan ook weinig indien enige literatuur wat op Suid- Afrikaanse bodem verskyn het wat handel oor die werksaamhede van die gemeenteboukonsultant in die christelike kerk/gemeente. Die gebrek aan 'n voltydse professionele gemeenteboukonsultant word as 'n ernstige leemte beskou in die verskillende fases van gemeentebou. In die studie word literatuur wat handel oor hierdie belangrike onderwerp, asook literatuur vanuit die bestuurswetenskap, teologies en krities bestudeer. 'n Aantal bestaande modelle word uiteengesit en teologies evalueer. Uit hierdie bestudering word op teologies-hermeneutiese wyse 'n voorbeeld-model voorgestel waarvolgens die gemeenteboukonsultant binne die Suid-Afrikaanse konteks die gemeente-analise, gemeenteprofiel en langtermynbeplanning in samewerking met die leiers en lidmate van die kerk/ gemeente kan afhandel.<br>At present, South Africa, in contrast with countries abroad has a serious disposition regarding the availability of literature dealing with churchgrowth as such. Due to a lack of professional churchgrowth consultants, churchgrowth had been neglected and a gap of deficiency has occured thus hindering the different stages in churchgrowth. This study is an in - depth, theological and critical study of churchgrowth as well as the managerial aspects thereof. Much devotion has been endeavoured upon this thus delivering a model example with which churchgrowth consultants could embark upon congregational analysis and profiling. In colaboration with leaders and members of congregations, long - term planning can be done.
