The current trend in health monitoring systems is to move from the hospital to portable personal devices. This work shows how consumer devices like heart rate monitors can be used not only for applications in sports, but also for medical research and diagnostic purposes. The goal pursued by our group was to develop a simple, accurate, and inexpensive system that would use a few pieces of data acquired by the heart rate monitor and process them on a smartphone to (i) provide detailed test reports about the user’s health state; (ii) store report records; (iii) generate emergency calls or SMSs; a

Small modular reactors (SMRs) offer significant prospects for Colombia to diversify and decarbonize its energy mix by 2038, as specified in the National Energy Plan (PEN) 2022-2052. However, current assessments primarily focus on capital expenditure (CAPEX) indicators, such as the overnight capital cost (OCC), while overlooking the Levelized cost of energy (LCOE), which provides a more comprehensive measure of long-term economic viability. This study employs a Monte Carlo simulation to calculate the LCOE of a 300 MW SMRs in Colombia for the 2038-2042 period, including probabilistic distributio

ABSTRACT Background: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in the US, with screening rates at 65% to 70%. This quality improvement project in a Southeast Minnesota health system (SMHS) aimed to enhance CRC screening using multitarget stool DNA (mt-sDNA) test kit delivery. Methods: Of 13,561 eligible patients ages 45 to 75 years in the SMHS, 12,032 were offered home delivery of mt-sDNA kits through the electronic patient portal. Results: Within 90 days, 1,953 kits (16.2%) were returned, with 158 (8.1%) showing abnormal results, leading to colonoscopy referrals. Co

The report states it is this lack of leadership and management capability that should be present, to drive performance and enable them to succeed.
