Abstract:
The phylogenetic position of the Tasmanian endemic genus Cameronia Kantvilas is studied using partial sequences of nuclear LSU and mitochondrial SSU ribosomal DNA. Monophyly of the genus is supported, as is its placement in Ostropomycetidae, although its position within this subclass remains uncertain. Given the lack of close relatives to Cameronia and its morphological differences compared to other families with perithecioid ascomata in Ostropomycetidae, the new family Cameroniaceae Kantvilas & Lumbsch is proposed.

In this study, a new species of Vanilla from French Guiana is described with detailed illustrations, photographs, and distribution. Vanilla cameroniana honors Kenneth M. Cameron, a distinguished professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, for his contributions to our understanding of the subfamily Vanilloideae. The new species is placed within Vanilla subgenus Xanata, due to its distinctive penicillate callus and lip margins connate to the column. Vanilla cameroniana can be distinguished from V. appendiculata, a morphologically similar species by the broader leaves up to 12 cm wide (vs.

It is characterized by a crustose thallus, a chlorococcalean photobiont, deeply immersed perithecioid ascomata, four-spored asci with an intensely hemiamyloid outer wall and non-amyloid, well-developed tholus, and hyaline, muriform ascospores. The taxonomic position of the new genus is uncertain although a relationship with theOstropomycetidaeis likely. Abstract:
This thesis examines the politics, plots and strategies of the militant presbyterian radicals of the United Societies, or later Covenanters, in their confrontation with the Restoration regime of Charles II and James VII in Scotland, and with the presbyterian movement between 1679 and 1688. Chapter one analyses the correlation between the Societies’ lay network and the pattern of militant presbyterian dissent. It outlines their core platform defined by their declarations and strict adherence to the Covenants. It discusses the formation of the United Societies out of the fragmentation of the pre

This chapter explores the confessional codification of the covenant of works in the Formula Consensus Helvetica, written by Johannes Heidegger and Francis Turretin. In the prior generation Reformed theologians were willing to allow differences of opinion on the finer points of the doctrine of the covenant of works, such as the nature of Adam’s reward (temporal or eternal) and the relationship between the Adamic and Mosaic covenants. But with the perceived threat of doctrinal novelty coming from the Academy of Saumur, Swiss theologians sought to narrow the gates of orthodoxy by precluding the S

This chapter considers the commemoration of the later stage of the Covenanting era, between the Restoration of the Stuart monarchy in 1660 through to the Glorious Revolution in 1688/9. In particular, we will focus on the Covenanter martyrs of the so-called ‘Killing Times’ of the 1680s. Following the imposition of episcopacy at the Restoration, over a quarter of Scottish Presbyterian ministers refused to conform, choosing instead to preach at illegal ‘conventicles’, concentrated mainly in the south-west of Scotland. In response, Charles II set out to suppress this rebellious activity and, as th
