Abstract:
Abstract Canalicular adenomas are benign neoplasms that arise from salivary glands and often present as painless enlarging nodules. They have a predilection for upper lip but can be found throughout the oropharynx. To our knowledge, canalicular adenoma arising in the esophagus has never been described in the English literature. Here we report a canalicular adenoma occurring in the esophagus.

Abstract:
Canalicular adenomas are a rare form of benign tumour that occur in salivary glands, occurring mainly in the upper lip and minor salivary glands of the buccal mucosa. The authors report the fifth case and the first in the otorhinolaryngological literature of a canalicular adenoma of the parotid gland. Its specific histological features are difficult to detect on fine needle aspiration and its multifocal nature can lead to recurrence and this must be considered in the clinical management.

Canalicular adenoma is a rare benign salivary gland neoplasm affecting predominantly the minor salivary gland. We present a case of a 55 year female who presented with a mucosal nodule in the left cheek and was diagnosed as Canalicular adenoma based on the morphology and immunohistochemistry findings. Our case is rare in that, it is a case of Canalicular adenoma affecting the major salivary gland – Parotid gland, and is the 7 case reported in literature to the best of our knowledge.

Canalicular adenoma is a unique, rare, benign salivary gland neoplasm whose reported prevalence varies in different studies. According to literature, this neoplasm has a marked predilection to occur in the upper lip of elderly women. Histological features are usually distinctive and diagnostic. This neoplasm has good prognosis after conservative surgical management but the propensity of multifocal nature and recurrence of this lesion mandates regular follow-up. Canalicular adenoma (CA) is an uncommon benign salivary gland tumor that mostly occurs in the upper lip. Despite its benign nature, some patients may present multiple nodules and also microscopic growth that can be multifocal with foci of tumor within the adjacent gland. Microscopically, CA can be mistaken for a polymorphous low-grade adenocarcinoma (PLGA) or basal cell adenoma (BCA), and immunohistochemistry can be helpful in differentiating them. Two cases of canalicular adenoma showing tumor foci within the adjacent gland are described. Both cases occurred in the upper lip of white females

ABSTRACT Canalicular adenoma (CA) is a benign salivary gland tumor with characteristic histopathologic feature predominantly seen in the minor salivary glands. It has a female predilection and commonly presents as a painless, slow-growing, nonulcerated nodule or swelling. The multicystic type is the most observed variant, with a very rare presentation as a solitary cystic lesion. We hereby discuss a case of CA with unicystic morphology.
