The article is dedicated to a newly discovered item from the library of the Institute of Oriental Manuscripts, RAS. The lithographic book was issued in Bombay by a British administration official named Sir W. The researcher carefully collected inscriptions from various epigraphic sources. The table with characters is preceded by a Memorandum, where W. Genetic diversity patterns of different populations were studied in Sideroxylon canariense, a Canary Island endemic of conservation concern. The species range is composed of a number of very small and isolated populations. Genetic variation of these populations was analyzed using: (1) inter simple sequence repeats (ISSR), a common fingerprinting method in plant population genetics, and (2) nucleotide sequence analyses of the nuclear ITS region. While no intraspecific variation was detected among the ITS sequences, the ISSR data showed a very low degree of intraspecific genetic diversity among

Canary (Serinus canarius) is one of the most beautiful cage birds. They are small and delicate songbird species. Their origin is the Canary Islands in the Atlantic Ocean. They were first brought to Europe by the Spanish sailors in 1478. Than Britain, Germany, France, Netherlands and Italy were started professional canary breeding. The wild ones live in flocks, mostly on the edge of wooded lakes and creeks. While the color of canaries grown in cages is completely yellow, the wild ones are gray-green. AbstractIn recent years, a possible defect in vitamin A metabolism in recessive white canaries (Serinus canaria,) has been repeatedly discussed. It has widely been accepted that a reduced absorption of carotenoids from the small intestine results in an insufficient synthesis of vitamin A. Moreover, the uptake of vitamin A from the lower intestine has also been discussed. The aim of the present study was to investigate the utilization of ß-carotene and vitamin A by recessive white canaries (in comparison to coloured ones) as well as to quantify the accretion of vitamin A in the liver and vitamin

This study investigated the susceptibility of American singer canaries ( Serinus canaria) to West Nile virus (WNV) infection. Adult canaries were inoculated with 105, 102, and 101 plaque forming units (PFU) of WNV. All birds became infected and mortality occurred by 5 days postinoculation. The load of viral RNA as determined by RT-qPCR was dose dependent, and was higher at all doses than the level of viral RNA detected in American crows ( Corvus brachyrhynchos) challenged with 105 PFU of WNV. In a subset of birds, viremia was detected by virus isolation; canaries inoculated with 101 PFU of WNV

This chapter proposes the use of expert elicitation and collaborative causal graphs for identifying early warning signs of transformative progress in Artificial Intelligence (AI). Termed as “canaries”, these early warning signs can identify potential harmful impact on language models of political systems as well as progress towards high-level machine intelligence. The identification of these “canaries” can provide focal points for the anticipatory governance of AI, enabling the control and monitoring of AI development and the ability to steer AI in safe directions.
