Abstract:
Interest in the concept of natural capital stems from the key role which this concept plays in certain attempts to elucidate the goal of sustainable development—a goal which currently preoccupies environmental policy-makers. My purpose in this paper is to examine the viability of what, adapting an expression of Bryan Norton's, may be termed the ‘social scientific approach’ to natural capital (Norton, 1992, p. 97). This approach largely determines the way in which environmental concern is currently being represented in the environmental policy community.

Leadership research has transitioned from studying the character traits, position and background of individuals towards an exploration of the process of leadership. This transition has been welcomed by many scholars who claim that leadership is an ongoing combination of actions that are socially co-constructed by several actors (Crevani, Lindgren & Packendorff, 2010). Previous scholarship has recognised that co-construction of leadership emergence has taken place through the pursuit of common goals, meaning-making and joint outcomes (Bennis, 2007; Drath, McCauley, Palus, Van Velsor, O’Connor &

The dissertation research will comprise three essays on the topic of the resource curse hypothesis and its mechanisms. The phenomenon of low economic growth in resource-rich regions is recognized as the “resource curse”. These essays will contribute to an understanding of the regional resource-growth relation within a nation. Essay one tests the resource curse hypothesis at the U.S. state level. Natural capital is a way of conceptualizing the linkages between economics and the environment. The concepts foundations can be traced back to the environmental movement of the 1970s and the works of influential economists at that time. Natural capital has come to have an elevated position in environmental conservation approaches in the United Kingdom. The UK government's advisory body, the Natural Capital Committee, is the first of its kind in the world to be established. The value of natural capital in countries around the world, including the UK, has been continuously decreasing due to the degradation of natural resources. The lack of accounting and nancial mechanisms dedicated to measure and recover the value of natural capital, combined with low investment allocations from private investors, have been a determinant factor contributing to this decline. Given this consideration, the present work de nes three objectives in relation to natural capi- tal accounting and nance.
