Frasindo Lima Mandiri is a company engaged in car rental services. In the rental process, the customer must come to the company to find out the type and availability of cars rented by the company. The payment process is still recorded in the payment journal, so that company employees will have difficulty in checking the status of customer payments. Seeing the problems that occur in the rental process, the purpose of this research is to create a web-based car rental information system. With this rental car information systems can simplify data management and provide complete information related to car rental. The method used in this study is the prototype system development method, analysis and design tools used are UML (Unified Modeling Language). The results of this study are that customers can find information related to rental cars, make car rental transactions online, can facilitate employees in the process of finding customer payment data and companies can provide services more quickly and accurately.

Abstract:
The unconstrained demand forecast for car rentals has become a difficult problem for revenue management due to the need to cope with a variety of rental vehicles, the strong subjective desires and requests of customers, and the high probability of upgrading and downgrading circumstances. The unconstrained demand forecast mainly includes repairing of constrained historical demand and forecasting of future demand. In this work, a new methodology is developed based on multiple discrete choice models to obtain customer choice preference probabilities and improve a known spill model, including a repair process of the unconstrained demand. In addition, the linear Holt–Winters model and the nonlinear backpropagation neural network are combined to predict future demand and avoid excessive errors caused by a single method. In a case study, we take advantage of a stated preference and a revealed preference survey and use the variable precision rough set to obtain factors and weights that affect customer choices. In this case study and based on a numerical example, three forecasting methods are compared to determine the car rental demand of the next time cycle. The comparison with real demand verifies the feasibility and effectiveness of the hybrid forecasting model with a resulting average error of only 3.06%.

When someone wants to rent a car, the customer will usually think twice about the company from which they want to rent. The decision will be based on factors such as good rates, quality and customer service. The service the company representative offers the client should be fast, clear and accurate. This goal cannot be achieved without an informative system that will enable the customer representative to answer the various questions the client might have.

Abstract:
This paper examines the interaction among airport aeronautical charge, traffic volume, and car rental service charge by employing a cross-section dataset covering 337 airports in the United States. Other determinants of the aeronautical charge are also examined. Using the method of three stage least squares, the main empirical findings are: (1) Car rental price has no significant impact on passenger volume, indicating that rental cost, which is an important cost category of airport concessional goods, does not affect passenger volume of airport. (2) Car rental price has no significant effect on aeronautical charge. (3) Only rental price at airports with a very low transfer rate responds positively to passenger volume. Overall, rental price does not respond to passenger volume or aeronautical charge. (4) Aeronautical charge has a significant negative effect on passenger volume, but it has no significant effect on car rental price.

Dai, X. (Xiongfeng). "Application of a Video Mediated Communication based remote car rental kiosk solution to other three services." Master's thesis, University of Oulu, 2013. http://urn.fi/URN:NBN:fi:oulu-201309271758.

Full text
Abstract:
A kiosk is a separate electronic computer terminal that allows the users to access information service. Traditional kiosks such as Automated Teller Machines (ATM) use software application with graphical user interfaces similar to normal computer system to allow users to accomplish their transaction tasks. However, this interaction mode has been proven to be difficult to use and not user-friendly for almost half of self-service users. A new type of interactive service kiosk which uses remote Video Mediated Communication (VMC) technology is to provide face-to-face talking with a customer servant to achieve the goal. Interactive VMC-based service kiosk is a tool that can be utilized in information technology field, bringing its customer convenience and close care to the virtual network. Differ from previous automated kiosk technologies which were concentrated on Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), VMC-based kiosk puts emphasis on human-to-human interface technology. It’s not only providing easier user situation for personal services but also bringing benefits for service providers due to the customized service VMC-based service kiosks offered. VMC-based kiosk service utilizes cost-saving goals accomplished meanwhile gives stimulations to achieve a new scale of perspectives and possibilities in the right direction for the company. The target for the thesis is to exploit remote car rental service using VMC-based kiosk solution and analyze its attributions relate to another three service areas, banking, travelling and reception, in order to find out in what kinds of intended future services VMC technology can be beneficial. For the purpose, this case study uses qualitative approach with scenario-based prototyping and user testing. The test results were gathered in a real use environment where nine people used the prototype and were interviewed in situ. The use situations and interviews were video recorded and transcribed for qualitative content analysis. Based on testing participants’ experience and feedbacks, the three testing cases indicated that interactive kiosk services using VMC technology in general was considered positive and well accepted. This study also clearly showed that remote VMC-based kiosk service can be successfully transferred to different service areas where similar types of negotiation-based service processes are common. By VMC-based kiosks services, customers can be offered face-to-face talk as a natural communication mode which is an overwhelmed advantage over the traditional kiosk system. Participants in study testing also felt easy and convenient in VMC-based kiosk service use by these features. Meanwhile, more concerns of how to better use of VMC-based kiosk service in other perspectives are still required in the future.

Abstract:
The aim of this case study is to understand the underlying political economy dynamics of the maize value chain in Nigeria, with a focus on how this can contribute to comprehending the drivers and constraints of agricultural commercialisation. The study is informed by theories of political settlements, rents, and policy processes. It asks questions around (1) the key actors and interests: who participates and how do they benefit? (2) Rules and policies: who makes the rules, and who wins and loses? And (3), what are the implications across different social groups?

Abstract:
Access to identification cards (IDs) is often required to claim government benefits. However, it is unclear which policies to increase ID ownership are more effective. We experimentally analyze the effect of two policy interventions to induce the timely renewal of identification cards on access to a government social program in Panama. Sending reminders about expiration dates increased the probability of on-time renewals and of accessing benefits from a social program by 12 and 4.3 percentage points, respectively, relative to a control group. In contrast, allowing individuals to renew their ID online only increased renewals and access to benefits by 8 and 2.9 percentage points, respectively. This result was driven by lower-income individuals. The results suggest that policies to increase ownership of valid identity documentation can reduce inclusion errors in government programs and that simply granting access to digital tools may not be enough to unlock important effects.
