Abstract:
The effect of different factors, such as carbon fiber content, temperature, electrifying time and frequency, power density on the electrothermal properties of the composite papers with different carbon fiber content was researched. The results show that the resistivity of the composite papers decreases with the increasing of carbon fibers. The current-voltage relationship is in good conformity with the Ohm's law. The negative temperature coefficient and good reversibility are shown during the heated and cooled process of the papers. The resistance of the papers decreases gradually with electrifying time and trends to stable after several hours. On-off electrifying times on its resistance have little effect in the long term. The curve of power density and surface temperature shows a good linear behavior.

The influences of the oxidative modification, coupling treatment and dispersing agent for carbon fiber dispersion and binding properties were investigated, and the relationships of different ratio of carbon fiber with the physical strength and electrical conductivity of the paper were analyzed. Meanwhile fiber surface morphology, zeta potential and absorbance slurry were tested. The result showed that: coupling modification significantly improved the dispersion performance of carbon fiber, superior than oxidative modification, the increase of the dispersion would enhance the conductivity of carbon fiber network, the effect of CPAM was best in four kinds of surface-active agent, and 30% content of carbon fiber achieved the "percolation threshold” of conductive material.

Abstract:
We propose a unique soft actuator—a paper actuator—based on carbon-nanotube-composite paper (CNT-composite paper), which is a composite of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and paper. CNT-composite paper has highly efficient properties because of the contained CNTs, such as high electrical conductivity and semiconducting properties. We are considering using CNT-composite paper for various devices. In this study, we successfully developed a paper actuator. We determined the structure of the paper actuator by referencing that of bucky-gel actuators. The actuator operates using the force generated by the movement of ions. In addition to making the paper actuator, we also attempted to improve its performance, using pressure as an index and an electronic scale to measure the pressure. We investigated the optimal dispersant for use in paper actuators, expecting the residual dispersant on the CNT-composite paper to affect the performance differently depending on the type of dispersant. Referring to research on bucky-gel actuators, we also found that the addition of carbon powder to the electrode layers is effective in improving the pressure for paper actuators. We believe that the paper actuator could be used in various situations due to its ease of processing.

Abstract:
This paper aimed to illustrate how short-term carbon futures speculators might use short-term carbon emission futures data to predict and forecast carbon prices. The paper became apposite given ubiquitous research focussing on long-term carbon futures data, which has left out short-term carbon emission futures speculators with information. Therefore, this paper demonstrated that short-term speculators in carbon futures could indeed use short-term time series data on carbon futures to make a reliable prediction and forecasting of carbon emissions futures price volatility within a short term and thus decide on investment opportunity. The sample data results showed that short-term data could produce a dependable in-sample futures prediction since the in-sample prediction fell within the 95% confidence interval. The demonstration also showed that short-term carbon futures data could assist speculators to conduct a reliable short-term out of sample forecast of carbon futures prices within the closer period. The paper offers practical assistance to carbon futures speculators and is equally important for academic studies for business and economic students on discussions and research bordering on carbon emissions, carbon trading, environmental economics and sustainable development. More carbon short-term forecasting is encouraged – such research should compare short-term forecasting of carbon futures amongst different carbon markets.

Abstract:
We have developed a unique “paper transistor” comprised of carbon nanotube (CNT) composite papers. CNTs have recently attracted much research attention in the nanotechnology field due to their many excellent physical properties, including good electrical and heat conductivities, physical strength, and dual semiconducting- and metallic- characteristics. CNTs have great potential for use as many different functional materials. In a previous work, we developed a CNT-composite paper as a new functional material. A normal paper is flexible and can be fabricated and used easily, and we can easily fabricate the CNT-composite paper by mixing pulp with CNTs. The resulting CNT-composite paper has both CNT and normal paper characteristics. In this study, we focused primarily on the dual semiconducting- and metallic- characteristics exhibited by CNTs because we can create paper composites that are both semiconducting and metallic. Our main goal was to develop a field-effect-transistor (FET) using semiconducting- and metallic- CNT-composite papers. A conventional FET has metal, insulator, and semiconductor layers. Our FET also has three layers: the metallic CNT-composite paper is used for gate, source, and drain electrodes as the metal layer; the semiconducting CNT-composite paper is used for a semiconductor as the channel layer; and the normal paper is used as a gate insulator layer. The key point here is that we were able to design and develop an FET using only normal paper and two kinds of CNT-composite paper, without any silicon or semiconductors. After the construction, we measured the electrical conductivity of our FET to test its operation. A drain-to-source current of about 10μA was observed. Moreover, we could control the current flow by controlling the gate voltage. These results demonstrate that it is possible to fabricate a paper FET using only normal paper and two kinds of CNT-composite paper.

The full carbon emission is calculated by using the solar emergy as a dimension normalizing tool in this paper. Its accounts include energy consumption carbon emission, potential carbon consumption of biomass resource consumption, and potential carbon consumption of waste emission. Based on it, population carrying capacity of unit carbon emission and economic output of unit carbon emission are taken into comprehensive account to establish the carbon emission performance comprehensive indexes. Taking China’s 30 provinces as examples, the assessment results show that the Nationwide should coordinate the relationship among economic, population and carbon emission. Compared with the traditional carbon efficiency evaluation, the carbon comprehensive performance evaluation based on “full carbon emission calculation” can fairly and objectively reflect the effects from modes of both life and production on carbon emission.

Abstract:
A research on the preparation of Carbon Waste Powder, CWP, was conducted and made from carbon rod waste which was extracted from used zinc-carbon batteries. This research was an effort to overcome environmental problem caused by battery waste by converting into adsorbent for methyl orange (MO) that frequently used by textile industries. The prepared powder was then analyzed to understand its characteristic peaks, crystallinity, and to compare the properties with other carbonaceous forms, i.e. a commercial Carbon Paper (CP), and a commercial meso- carbon micro-beads (MCMB). The analysis found that CWP is dominated by graphitic carbon. An adsorption experiment was then conducted to study their adsorption ability to methyl orange solution. The result found that those three carbonaceous materials have the ability to adsorb methyl orange with different activities. MCMB has the highest adsorption capacity of 0.197 mg.g-1. Meanwhile, CWP and CP show adsorption capacity of 0.066 mg.g-1 and 0.062 mg.g-1, respectively. Methyl orange adsorption on CWP and CP were under second order, which means the adsorption could be four times faster as the MO solution doubled. Moreover, the rate constant of MO adsorption on CWP is 8×10-4 min-1, which was higher than the rate constant of MO adsorption on CP. It confirmed that the CWP can be used as a promising adsorbent for dye waste water. Copyright © 2020 BCREC Group. All rights reserved

Abstract:
Carbon emissions trading is one of the important ways to reduce carbon emissions by giving CO2 emission rights a commodity attribute that allows them to trade on the market and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through the market mechanisms. Based on the inter-provincial panel data from 1997 to 2016, this paper constructs a basic theoretical analysis framework to analyze the carbon emission reduction effects of carbon trading policies, adopts PSM-DID to study the carbon emission reduction effects of carbon trading pilots. This study finds that: (1) The implementation of the carbon trading pilot can promote carbon emission reduction, but the pilot provinces and municipalities have different economic development levels, industrial structure and supporting measures adopted after the implementation of the carbon trading pilot policy, resulting in differences in carbon emission reduction effects between pilot provinces. (2) For the seller of carbon emission rights, carbon emission reduction is achieved through three effects of "market return-inducing", "technical innovation incentive" and "government support"; for the buyer, carbon emission reduction is achieved through three effects of "enterprise cost pressure", "process innovation motivation" and "market guiding". (4) The results of traditional PSM-DID further prove that the carbon trading pilot can significantly reduce CO2 emissions.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to review the contributions of the special issue papers while presenting four broad research avenues. Design/methodology/approach The paper is based on a review of current literature on climate change and carbon accounting. Findings The authors propose four broad avenues for research: climate change as a systemic and social issue, the multi-layered transition apparatus for climate change, climate vulnerability and the future of carbon accounting. Practical implications The authors connect this study with the requested institutional changes for climate breakdown, making the paper relevant for practice and policy. The authors notably point to education and professions as institutions that will request bold and urgent makeovers. Social implications The authors urge academics to reconsider climate change as a social issue, requiring to use new theoretical lenses such as emotions, eco-feminism, material politics and “dispositifs” to tackle this grand challenge. Originality/value This paper switches the authors’ viewpoint on carbon accounting to look at it from a more systemic and social lens.

Abstract:
In order to solve the environmental protection problem of carbon emissions in the field of freight transportation, this article proposes to promote the transfer of road freight transportation to railway transportation within a reasonable range by levying carbon emission taxes. To propose an applicable solution, this paper establishes a comprehensive carbon emission system model in the field of road transportation and railway transportation to simulate a closed-loop system as comprehensively as a real transportation system, determines the system elements according to the actual situation, reasonably develops the model hypothesis scheme, and draws out the causal network. On this basis, the system flow diagram and corresponding structural equations are constructed, and the model parameters are estimated. Finally, the paper uses actual data to verify and simulate the system model. A reasonable carbon levy interval has been obtained, and the carbon levy within this interval can promote the transfer of road freight transportation to railway transportation, so as to achieve the purpose of decreasing total carbon emissions of road–rail transportation systems in an orderly way. The innovation of this paper is to construct the carbon emissions of the road–rail system systematically for the first time, and to conduct research and exploration of carbon levies on this basis.

The model of GEP in carbon market is established by introducing the carbon economy index proposed in this paper to traditional GEP model. Considering the operation experience of European Union Emission Trading System (EU ETS), the proposed index mainly consists of the CO2 emission load and the carbon price, which works as two forms in the established model: the carbon income in objective function and the CO2 reduction constraint in constraints. Especially, this paper divides the CO2 reduction constraint into two parts working in different planning period, so as to provide the flexibility and the result control for the planning. And the simulation shows that the GEP in the carbon market can guide the power structure adjustment and reduce CO2 emissions.

In order to explore carbon market regulation mechanism more effectively, based on carbon accumulation model with jump diffusion, this paper studies the carbon price from two perspectives of quantity instrument and price instrument and quantitatively simulates carbon price regulation mechanisms in the light of actual operation of EU carbon market. The results show that quantity instrument and price instrument both have certain effects on carbon market; according to the comparison of the elasticity change of the expected carbon price, comparative advantages of both instruments rely on the price of carbon finance market. Where the carbon price is excessively high, price instrument is superior to quantity instrument; where carbon price is excessively low, quantity instrument is better than price instrument. Therefore, in the case of carbon market regulation based on expected carbon price, if the carbon price is too high, price instrument should prevail; if the carbon price is excessively low, quantity instrument should prevail.

Abstract:
To have a fundamental understanding on the principle of carbon aerogels when it is used as electrode materials in power battery, the effects of density and structural properties on the electrical conductivity of carbon aerogels was investigated in this paper. Carbon aerogels with different density were prepared via adjusting the chemical conditions of the primary solution. The morphology of carbon aerogels were observed by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM). Experimental results show that the electrical conductivity of carbon aerogels is ranged from 10-6 Ω/cm to 10 Ω/cm, and that not only the density but also the carbon particle size and porosity of carbon aerogels effect the transport property greatly. With the increasing of the density the electrical conductivity of carbon aerogels increases. This indicates that larger particle size and lower porosity of the nano-structure lead to higher conductivity.
