Abstract:
Laser welding of metals and alloys is extensively used in industry due to its advantages of controlled heating, narrow weld bead, low heat affected zone (HAZ) and its ability to weld a wide range of metals and dissimilar metals. Laser welding of dissimilar metals such as carbon steels and stainless steel is still a challenging task, particularly due to the formation of brittle phases in the weld, martensitic formation in the HAZ and solidification cracking in the fusion zone. These issues can significantly deteriorate the strength of the welded joint. The aim of this work is to investigate the

Plain C-Mn steels such as SA-516 Grade 65 are used as steam lines to transport high temperature steam under pressure. Plain carbon steels that are in service at elevated temperatures (typically 400-450°C) for prolonged periods of time (typically in excess of 20 years) may experience an undesirable microstructural change in the form of secondary graphitization. Secondary graphitization of carbon steels is classically defined as the decomposition of cementite into carbon (present as the graphite phase) and iron (ferrite). Hydrogen cracking is found in HAZ with low heat input parameters, this type of cracking occurred because of very rapid cooling and therefore not enough time to allow the hydrogen to dissipate from the specimen. Friction coeifficient and wear tests applied sliding motion without lubricant were performed in a pin-on-ring mode on a T-53 wear testing machine. This research study the wear performance of the titanium carbide cladded layer compared with that of the commercial guide rail. In addition, the microstructure of titanium carbide cladded layer was examined by using SEM(Scanning Electron Microscopy) and EDS(Energy Dispe

The welding tool is made of tungsten carbide with a diameter of 20 mm, and a mild steel rod is embedded within the ring of tungsten carbide, so that they have the same end plane. The load cell and the thermocouple are used to measure the axial load and the temperature rise, respectively. Dissertação de Mestrado Integrado em Engenharia Mecânica apresentada à Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia<br>In the present dissertation the thermomechanical conditions in welding of low carbon steels by the Tool Assisted Friction Spot Welding (TAFSW) process are studied. For this purpose, spot welds were made in steels with different characteristics through tools with variable diameter. In some situations, the speed of rotation of the tool was also varied. The base materials used in the study were DC01 soft steel, DX51D galvanized steel, high strength steels HC 220 LA and HC 420 LA, as well a
