Full textThe Voice Main Card (VMC) functions as an enhanced telephone answering machine and is designed as a plug-in card for the IBM PC and compatibles. In addition to standard answering machine functions, the VMC features programmable outgoing message selection, message routing, response to caller's touch tone signals, and remote programming ability. The VMC will answer incoming telephone calls, deliver outgoing messages which are Programmably selectable from as many as 16 digitized audio messages stored on the PC's hard disk, record incoming messages to the hard disk or optionally to an external tape recorder, route messages to a specified receiver, respond to a caller's touch tone signals, and enter a remote programming mode as a result of a special code sent by the caller. Audio messages are processed digitally via A/D and D/A converters which receive and send 8-bit data to and from the IBM PC through a selectable port address. The A/D conversion is implemented with the ADC0802 which is operated at a clock rate of 512 kHz. The D/A conversion is implemented with the DAC0830. Interface with the telephone line is accomplished with the speech circuit TP5700 coupled through opto-couplers. Messages are recorded using an external 600-ohm dynamic microphone and played back through an external 8-ohm speaker. A full-featured, pull-down menu program is provided with the VMC and implements all programmable functions. Data In/Out (I/O) with the card is interrupt-driven to allow apparent simultaneous disk I/O.
Scholz, Robert. "Behavior Cards - ett programmeringsverktyg för barn." Thesis, Linköping University, Department of Computer and Information Science, 2005. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:liu:diva-66.
Full textThis thesis presents the work of developing and testing a programming tool specially designed for children. The purpose of this tool is to make children capable of creating visual simulations and games that consist of actors interacting in a virtual world. The name of the programming tool is Behavior Cards, which comes from the fact that actors are programmed by giving them cards representing different kinds of behaviors. Behaviors are to some extent pre-programmed and can include general events specifying how the actors should act in different situations, in contrast to specifying every possible situation that can occur. The idea is that Behavior Cards should be easier to use than a more traditional text based programming tool, but it should also be expressive within the domain of visual games. These goals can be accomplished by using different types of representations – such as icons, symbols and text – combined with an interaction technique based on direct manipulation of objects. Two versions of Behavior Cards have been developed and tested together with 11-year-old children. The results show that behaviors were useful for programming relatively advanced visual programs in a quick and effective manner, and that the children were able to learn and use the concept for creating simple programs. Further studies are needed to examine if children also can analyze and solve more complex programming problems.

ATM cards have become an indispensable payment instrument in daily life, which offer functions such as account inquiry, cash withdrawal, payment of tax, and account transfer. However, since it involves the transfer of money, it tends to be used in criminal conducts. Since it is easy to record and replicate magnetic stripe cards, fraudulent withdrawals occur frequently. At present, magnetic stripe cards’ function of cross-bank transactions has been fully terminated in Taiwan and magnetic stripe cards are replaced by chip ATM cards. Besides the functions of magnetic stripe cards, chip ATM cards also offer functions such as web ATM payment and payment at real stores. Chip ATM cards make it possible to distinguish the bogus cards from the authentic ones and verify the user password offline, which greatly enhance the safety of ATM cards. This study investigates the characteristics, evolution, and ATM card fraud incidents, and analyzes the security mechanisms and problems of magnetic stripe cards, chip ATM cards. Finally, an improved solution is proposed. We hope that this paper can be a reference for domestic financial industry and cardholders.

In recent years, consuming finance has become one of the major profit sources of banks. Among them, small credit loan, credit card and cash card have become the main products to be promoted. By doing so, banks hope to obtain more business opportunities, and the growth of cash cards is far more fast. In addition, the cash card extremely similar to goods quality of the credit card and has complementarity, make every bank introduce the business of credit cards and cash cards. the card bank is in order to open up the business, it is strict to verify incompletely, Cause a person to have many cards , the holder does not know how to weigh one's own financial situation and adjust Speed expanded of the personal credit, cause oneself debt. bad debt of the bank to be too much, have formed the debt storm of the card . this research use unobtrusive measures to probe into the relevant card debt question in four respects that the debt consultation mechanism, circulation interest rate of the bank, individual reorganization, asset management corporation and propose solving the suggestion of the debt problem of the card. The results : (1)It is comparatively rational for the circulation interest rate of the bank of our country to compare with various countries, if adjust and lower the interest rate, not only can not solve the debt problem of the card but also cause influence on the economy and society of our country. (2)The debt consultation mechanism can not solve the problem of the high debt group, and this mechanism regulation is too loose, it is apt to be abused by the speculator. (3)Observing America and Japan can solve the financial crisis and bankrupt too much problem of personal credit smoothly, establishment of the debt consultation mechanism and individual reorganization is all very key factors. (4)This research is thought to solve the problem of the card debt, need to establish the debt consultation mechanism with independent character rapidly, manage company's fund sufficiently, can receive debts of the hign debt group, and because have independent character, will be more efficient.

Keeping good relationships with good customer is one of the essential factors of enterprise success. If we prevent customers from churn as soon as possible, we may increase the earnings of an enterprise. This paper is about customer retention of cash card business, and we construct cash card’s churning rate prediction model. The sampling frame is one of the commercial banks in Taiwan. To make sure that our samples in the prediction model are good credit customers, those who used to pay behind time or those who are uncollectible accounts are eliminated. After sieving out the customers, we have about 60 thousand cash card holders in research. The research period is from 2001 to 2005. The main prediction variables are basic information of customer, the dealings between the customers and the bank, and the dealings between the customers and the other banks. Because of the difference between male and female, we construct not only the entirety customer retention prediction model, but also male and female customer retention prediction models. We want to find out which are the main factors to predict customer attrition, and compare these three models to see whether the prediction is better when we separate our sample by gender. We find that the significant variables are different among these three models. The basic population statistic variables which significantly influence the male churning rate are ‘age’, ‘job’, ‘salary per year’ and ‘education’. As for female prediction model, only education variable is significant among the basic population statistic variables. The significant variables which customers dealing with the sample bank and the significant variables which customers dealing with other bank of both male and female prediction model are the same, which include ‘the number of owning other bank’s cash card’, ‘the number of owning other bank’s credit card’, ‘the total credit amount’, ‘the increase cash card debt in the last three months’, ‘the average least pay amount in the last three months’, ‘the average withdrawal amount per month’, ‘the average withdrawal times per month’, ‘the average revenue increase per year’, ‘dealings period’, ‘the first time the cash card use rate up to 90%’and ‘the margin increase of the cash card use rate in the last three months’. The whole prediction rate of the entirety model is higher than the other gender prediction models, but the attrition prediction rate of the entirety model is lower than the both gender prediction models. The type I error of these two different gender prediction models are both lower than the entirety prediction model. In addition, when we use these different gender prediction models to predict customer attrition, and combine these two potential effects together, we find that the bank minimize more loss than the entirety prediction model. In our different gender model, if the bank can retain all its customers who are predicted to lose, it can save loss up to $40,166,000(TWD) more than the entirety prediction model. And if it can only retain 30% its customers who are predicted to lose, it can save $12,054,000(TWD) as well. These findings reveal that the cash card’s churning rate prediction model has good predictability which may increase the revenue of the enterprise. Besides, constructing different gender prediction model is also valuable and is worthy of consideration.

The objective of this thesis is to design a vehicle for conveying authentication and access control information. Smart cards are the vehicle that stores credentials of their owners in the format defined in the X.509 certificate. Two types of certificates are defined. One is used to store individual information for the authentication purpose; the other is used to convey role assignments. The author designs procedures for the enrollment of these certificates and then implements these procedures in the platform of Windows 2000. Finally, a case study is conducted, showing how the certificates are used in a process of requesting for leave in organizations.

Business cards include many kinds of information such as name, address, andtelephone number. In order to use the information effectively, it is necessaryto extract the information from the cards automatically to build a data base. The goal of this thesis is to extract and recognize characters from color business cards. The styles of business cards varies greatly. Some marks andlines may appear on the cards, and some cards are color. These problems will make the recognition of business cards difficult. To separate the foreground from the background, we assign all pixels into eight color types: black, white, red, green, blue, yellow, cyan, and magenta. Then we calculate a dynamic threshold using the color information to extract the foreground. Next, we extract the characters by four main modules: connected component extraction, local thresholding, mark, line and noise deletion and character grouping. Connected components are found to represent character candidates and local thresholding is used to improve the image quality. Marks, noise and lines are finally deleted from the components extracted using some size information we collect from training business cards. Character grouping isused to group the related characters and correct the character blocks by using the groups. Finally, we send the characters to statistic-based Chinese and English character recognition systems. We show the top ten candidates recognized in a user-friendly Windows-based interface. Users can use a mouse to select correct candidates to replace wrong results. We store the final results in the database. We test 30 business cards, which have Chinese characters, English characters, numerals and punctuation marks. The extraction rate and accuracy rate for our system are 96.97% and 95.43% respectively. The recognition rate for Chinese characters is 88.78% and the average recognition rate for English characters, numerals and punctuation marks can reach 97.58%.

Also at the end ofthe creation of the Widget were made usability tests that allowed to discover that theusers had difficulty in finding the Feedback button of the HTML Widget. Through theresults and a conversation with the users it was noticed that the Widget should becustomized by the site owners in order to attract attention and to appear harmoniouslyin the site, since you can not have a single design for all the sites , this being one morefactor in favor of a service of personalization of the Widget by the client.

Based on the brief introduction of the concept and the subject of credit cards, detailing the credit card transaction process and evolution of the various transactions, It points out that the legal relationship between the credit card transactions is not a triangle but a quadrilateral, namely composed of issuer and the cardholder, merchant, cardholder and merchant and the acquirer, the single institution and the card issuer, four pairs of legal relationship. Based on the credit card contracts, and three types of responsibility as the risk of credit card transactions and according to the categories discussed mainly: the first is the card cause the civil liability of the risk, mainly analyzes the error follow payment orders and the risk of failure of the ATM; the second is the civil liability of the risk caused by the card holder, including for credit-card debt has triggered interest problem, the cardholder when malicious overdraft and violate the criminal law of mainland China, the validity of the credit card contract, credit card, the liability of the guarantor and issuing false income to prove the responsibility of the unit, etc.; the third is the civil liability of the risk led by the third party, this paper discusses mainly the not authorized the use of credit card of civil liability and the expense. Credit card the civil liability of the parties, in the presence of a legally valid contractual relationship between the parties for contract liability, or rarely for tort liability. In credit card transactions, it should be based on the principle of imputation of contractual liability is the principle of strict liability and fault liability principle to determine the attribution of responsibility, and the bank should implement the principle of presumption of fault. Execution of payment orders for system or equipment error, issuer to the cardholder to undertake responsibility of breach of contract, compensation for the foreseeable rule. Through the discussion of legal relations and legal nature of the ATM, it points out that in the cardholder goodwill, ATM transaction log error or less out cash, card issuer to the cardholder for losses suffered as a result of negative liability for breach of contract, the sender can be based on the principal-agent contract liability for breach of contract to the owner of ATM, if the ATM fault is due to quality problems third failure or ATM or software service providers, the sender can breach or tort liability to its; ATM out cash, customers get excess funds improper conditions with civil law''s profit, should bear the liability according to the law of restitution of unjust enrichment. Cardholder malicious, is intentional tort, if the case constitutes a crime, should also be investigated for criminal responsibility. With the rising popularity of credit card issuance and ussing, due to the high interest of credit card transactions, the credit card debt problem is increasingly serious. In this paper, on the interest rate is too high can control from the legitimacy of interest regulation, elaborates the possibility and fairly, points out that the interest rate control is legitimate, possible and feasible. This article analyze the criminal law in the sense of malicious overdraft, pointing out that the contract is not invalid but may revoke the contract, if the issuer exercise the right of revocation, the contract is invalid, the cardholder shall bear tort liability; otherwise it is effective, the cardholder should bear contractual liability. The guarantor''s civil liability should be held in the highest overdraft credit card limit, if there exists a card fraud guarantee or know the fraud guarantor, surety bear no civil liability, otherwise it should assume joint responsibility to ensure that. In this paper, by investigating the false statement civil liability theory and legislation, pointing out that in the pure economic loss caused by a misrepresentation during compensation, not as single modelled on the British and American law to tort law strictures, it also needs a contract responsibility To solve the problem. By discussing the related case of misrepresentation of current law and judicial interpretation of the rules, and not the behavior of real income proof, constitutive requirements, the main responsibility imputation principles, the scope of compensation, liability form, pointing out that issued false proof of income units shall bear the responsibility of compensation, the cardholder malicious collusion case shall bear joint and several liability. In this paper, from the aspects of credit using without authorization the use of the legal nature of considerations, pointed out that to identify without authorization as unauthorized agency is quite reasonable. No discussion is authorized to use civil liability. There are three problems to be solved: one is without authorized the use of whether constitute authorized user of the cardholder''s use of ostensible agency? Second, if you do not constitute ostensible agency, how to bear the loss responsibility? The third it is under the constitute ostensible agency, and how to bear the loss responsibility? Pointing out constitute ostensible agency needs from and credit card, signature, password, id card and so on seven aspects comprehensive recognition. In has not formed the agency by estoppel, hairpin people get after the loss, unauthorized use, the cardholder, merchant acquirers, issuers are likely to want to assume responsibility, the responsibility of form is not the real joint and several liability of supplementary liability. No authorization to use is the full responsibility for the ultimate responsibility; and the cardholder and the acquirer to the issuer to undertake responsibility of breach of contract, as part of the responsibility, liability form for supplementary liability; not only to the merchant acquirer liable to the cardholder liability. The agency by estoppel, authorized the use of free people to bear the civil liability of infringement of creditor''s rights to the cardholder, is the full responsibility for the ultimate responsibility; the sender to assume the cardholder part of the liability for breach of contract; the acquirer bear part of the responsibility of breach of contract to the issuer; merchants both to the cardholder to accept responsibility single institution responsibility. In practice, the cardholder as the plaintiff Sue to the court, the cardholder can choose the defendant from four parts: the sender, without the person using without authorization of the use of people, merchants, acquirers. But according to whether the non authorized the use of the formation of the cardholder''s apparent agency, the cardholder foundation of right of claim is different, the shape and size of the parties to the responsibility of the cardholder is different.

A business card is an important tool for people to contact each other today. In this thesis, we design a system to identify the items of a business card automatically so that we can manage all business cards more easily. In our system, we will process a business card image which has been pre-processed, and all characters in this business card have been recognized by OCR engines. We first classify all items of the business card into two classes, the major items and the minor items, according to the commonality of the contents in business cards. We analyze the arrangement of the items and build item identification rules according to the characteristics of each item. For each business card, we build a scorebook to record the scores. When we examine a block in the business card, we consider the rules of each item and evaluate the score which the block gets in this item. After we evaluate the scores of all blocks, we can identify each item in the business card. In the post-processing steps, we split the blocks that contain more than one item. We build the keyword databases to revise the contents of the items and check the characters adjacent to the key-characters and re-recognize improper characters. At last, we identify undecided blocks according to the keywords of each item and identify the blocks that have no keywords as the note items. In our experiments, we use 100 horizontal cards and 100 vertical cards to test the system of item identification for Chinese cards. The accuracy rate of item identification is 93.05%. The accuracy rates for item identification of horizontal cards and vertical cards are 92.29% and 93.91%.
Silva, Bruno Miguel Oliveira. "Wild cards: surveying extreme change." Master's thesis, 2013. http://hdl.handle.net/10071/6477.
Full textSocio-economic complexity, quickened by technical change, amplified by globalisation, limits the prediction powers of agents’ actions and increases the need to deal with uncertainty about the future. For many years foresight has been positioned has having a central relevance in the present context of turmoil and insecurity, especially when disruptions and trend-breaking events are of the essence. Within the subject-area of foresight, however, the concept of extreme sudden change remains still quite unclear. Wild cards, or “high impact”/“low-probability” events, with the potential to redefine the “rules of the game” are a concept worth revisiting given its novelty in the literature and analytical importance in contemporary volatile environments. This thesis focuses on the role and evolution of the concept of wild card in foresight literature. Our main objective is to provide an account of the state of the art of wild card research. To this end, the methodological approach deployed uses both quantitative data (bibliometric analysis of research papers) and qualitative information (constructivist method based on interviews with experts) as a way of achieving robust insight on what wild cards are as a concept and how they are evolving in the real world. This two-pronged approach allowed for the validation of the findings of the systematic survey of the literature through the lens of the international researchers and practitioners that we were able to enquire. This methodology is unlike any other we have been able to detect in the extant literature, and may confer this effort a degree of novelty. As far as substantive contributions are concerned, this thesis sought to better distil a definition of the concept of wild card within a foresight’s framework, study its interrelations with other phenomena of change, and also look into the anticipation and adaptation possibilities when dealing with wild cards.
