Abstract:
Background: Accumulating sufficient moderate to vigorous physical activity is recognized as a key determinant of physical, physiological, developmental, mental, cognitive, and social health among children and youth (aged 5–17 y). The Global Matrix 3.0 of Report Card grades on physical activity was developed to achieve a better understanding of the global variation in child and youth physical activity and associated supports. Methods: Work groups from 49 countries followed harmonized procedures to develop their Report Cards by grading 10 common indicators using the best available data. The participating countries were divided into 3 categories using the United Nations’ human development index (HDI) classification (low or medium, high, and very high HDI). Results: A total of 490 grades, including 369 letter grades and 121 incomplete grades, were assigned by the 49 work groups. Overall, an average grade of “C-,” “D+,” and “C-” was obtained for the low and medium HDI countries, high HDI countries, and very high HDI countries, respectively. Conclusions: The present study provides rich new evidence showing that the situation regarding the physical activity of children and youth is a concern worldwide. Strategic public investments to implement effective interventions to increase physical activity opportunities are needed.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to apply Foresight methodology to the area of nanotechnologies and new materials within the framework of Russian S&T Foresight 2030 aimed at revelation of major trends, most promising products and technologies. Design/methodology/approach To achieve this goal, best international practice was analyzed that provided a solid basis for Russian S&T Foresight 2030 (section “Nanotechnology and new materials”). The study used a wide range of advanced Foresight methods adapted to Russian circumstances. During the Foresight study, the authors integrated “market pull” and research “technology push” approaches including both traditional methods (priority-setting, roadmaps, global challenges analysis) and relatively new approaches (horizon scanning, weak signals, wild cards, etc.). Findings Using the methods of the Foresight, the authors identified trends with the greatest impact on the sphere of nanotechnology and new materials, promising markets, product groups and potential areas of demand for Russian innovation technologies and developments in this field. The authors assessed the state-of-the-art of the domestic research in the area of nanotechnologies and new materials to identify “white spots”, as well as parity zone and leadership, which can be the basis for integration into international alliances and positioning of Russia as a center of global technological development in this field. Originality/value The results of applying Foresight methodology toward revelation of the most prospective S&T areas in the field of nanotechnologies and new materials can be used by a variety of stakeholders including federal and regional authorities, technology platforms and innovation and industrial clusters, leading universities and scientific organizations in formulation of their research and strategic agenda. Russian businesses including both large companies and small and medium-sized enterprises can use results of the study in creating their strategic R&D programs and finding appropriate partners.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to determine the improvement of the science learning outcomes of physics at the Gateway Team learning process. The research method used was classroom action research (CAR) with a qualitative approach. Based on the results of the study found that the completeness of student learning in the first cycle of 55.17% still did not reach the target. In the second cycle, there was an increase with 100% student completeness which means that it had reached the target. Based on observations of teacher activities and student activities, obtained an increase in learning. To observe teacher activity increased from 72.12% in the first cycle to 94.23% in the second cycle. And for the observation of student activity increased from 72.73% in the first cycle to 90.91% in the second cycle. Then the research can be concluded that the application of Team Gateway learning strategies can improve student learning outcomes because it is very useful to support student creativity in analyzing problems to improve student learning outcomes. Researchers suggest teachers should use the Gateway Team learning strategy because students interact with one another to strengthen the knowledge they have acquired and also require students to work together in groups to solve problems in the material so that student learning outcomes are better and teachers are advised to use index cards and learning resources in the form of textbooks that are support student activities.

Abstract:
The rapid rise and distinctive demands of black consumers after the apartheid era in South Africa has brought forward many opportunities for retailers. One of these opportunities is examining the purchase behaviour of black consumers if they possess a loyalty card. The purpose of this research was to investigate the purchasing habits of black South African consumers who possess a loyalty card, looking specifically at purchase frequency and polygamous loyal customers. In order to test various hypotheses, 65 black South African clients of two pharmaceutical outlets were surveyed. The results of the study indicated that a relationship does exist between the possession of a loyalty card and shopping frequency, as well as the relationship between polygamous loyalty and shopping frequency.

Abstract:
Globalization has forced many countries to rely on one another for products and services which they are unable to source locally. More so, trade is used as the channel to procure those. South Africa and China share very close relations which are boosted by South Africa’s neo-liberal policy, and its membership of the BRICS bloc. Often, this relationship has been subjected to different interpretations leading to the inability to reach a consensus on South Africa’s intention and exact benefits from neo-liberalization and membership of BRICS bloc. On this basis, we affirm that a notable gap exists in scholarly literature which has not provided the full-fledged understanding of the impact of Chinese manufactured goods into South Africa. We draw from the concepts of protectionism and free trade to expatiate the concerns raised by many with respect to the nature and benefits of the relationship. The paper relied extensively on secondary sources of data from which the authors then analyzed, interpreted and drew conclusions to provide a contextual explanation of the phenomenon of Chinese invasion of South African market. This method was useful for two reasons; namely its capacity to generate new insights and secondly, access to comparative studies. While the results show that South African clothing firms are increasingly shutting down because of lower prices from international competitors (especially China), and also due to structural issues of the present South African economy, we are equally aware of the extensive pressure from interest groups for the South African government to protect major local industries such as steel and textile. We argue anyway that the South African government is playing its cards carefully to avoid a backlash, especially considering its position within the BRICS bloc.

Abstract:
The potential space of game designs is astronomically large. This paper shows how game design theories can be translated into a simple, tangible card deck that can assist in the exploration of new game designs within a broader "design space." By translating elements of game design theory into a physical card deck, we enable users to randomly sample a design space in order to synthesize new game design variations for a new play platform ("Lumies"). In a series of iterative design and testing rounds with various user groups, the deck has been optimized to merge relevant game theory elements into a concise card deck with limited categories and clear descriptions. In a small, controlled experiment involving groups of design students, we compare the effects of brainstorming with the card deck or the "Directed Brainstorming" method. We show that the deck does not increase ideation speed but is preferred by participants. We further show that our target audience, children, were able to use the card deck to develop dozens of new game ideas. We conclude that design space cards are a promising way to help adults and children to generate new game ideas by making it easier to explore the game design space.

Abstract:
This study contributes to the labor market inequality and organizations literature by investigating the role that government agents play in shaping the employment of immigrants. Using unique data on applications for immigrant permanent labor certification evaluated by U.S. Department of Labor agents, we assess to what extent immigrants of select citizenship groups experience disparities in the labor certification process—one critical stage of the work authorization system leading to the granting of most employment-based green cards. Despite current U.S. laws that forbid discrimination on the basis of nationality, we find that labor certification approvals differ significantly depending on immigrants’ foreign citizenship, even after controlling for key factors. Additionally, because of the U.S. government’s unique process of auditing applications, we are in a rare position to empirically distinguish between statistical and preference-based accounts of labor market discrimination in the labor certification process. In support of the statistical account, we find that certification approvals are equally likely for immigrant workers from the vast majority of citizenship groups when agents review audited applications with detailed employment information. This article concludes by discussing the implications of our results for addressing disparities in the employment of foreign nationals.

Abstract:
Summary: This study investigated the role that the structure of a diagnostic instrument plays in the assessment of personality functioning. Empirical studies have shown that the cards of the Rorschach and Holtzman Inkblot Technique (HIT) vary significantly with regard to their structure. Thus, it was possible to investigate if cards of high vs. low structure tend to elicit specific diagnostically useful responses. For this purpose, samples of normals (n = 30), patients with neurotic disorders (n = 30), borderline patients (n = 30), acute schizophrenics (n = 25), and chronic schizophrenics (n = 25) were studied with the HIT. For each diagnostic group it was examined if cards of high vs. low structure tended to elicit more thought disordered responses, hostility, and anxiety according to the HIT scoring system. With regard to structure, two aspects were differentiated, structural vs. interpretative ambiguity of the HIT cards. In all nonschizophrenic groups, cards of high structural ambiguity elicited significantly less thought disordered responses. By contrast, cards of high interpretative ambiguity elicited more thought disordered responses, anxiety, and hostility in all groups except the chronic schizophrenics. The measures of structural vs. interpretative ambiguity of the HIT cards showed a negative correlation in all diagnostic groups. According to these results, both aspects of ambiguity and their interplay play an important role in the assessment of psychopathology, at least within the range of ambiguity represented by the inkblots of the HIT.

The need for information is increasingly high in the era of growing technology. The delivery of information quickly and actual becomes a challenge in developing an information technology. One type of public service that is the government's obligation and has a strategic role is public services in the field of population and civil registration. People are sometimes disappointed when they want to get population administration services, especially Electronic Identity Cards. By not announcing the availability of physical blank stocks of Electronic Identity Cards, intermediaries can use them in managing population administration. On the pretext that the physical blank of the Electronic Identity Card is used up, so that it can be used as a moment for intermediary individuals to seek profits in managing population administration. With this electronic Blank Information Display, it is hoped that the public will obtain information disclosure regarding available blank Electronic Identity Cards.

Abstract:
Purpose Strategic groups research has been hampered by the poor alignment between theory and methods. This has been due in large part to the lack of significance tests for cluster analysis. Now that significance tests are available, the theoretical and methodological implications are discussed. The paper aims to discuss these issues. Design/methodology/approach The theory behind strategic groups is reframed to capitalize on the available significance tests. Subsequently, the significance tests are also modified to fit the proposed theory. Due to this integrative approach, this is both a theoretical and a methodological paper. Findings In lieu of significance tests, finding differences in performance emerged as the litmus test for the existence of discrete strategic groups. The concept of strategic groups gradually evolved to fit this requirement. Now that significance tests are available, these legacy effects of the structure-performance link can be removed. This reveals that three conflicting concepts have been sharing the label of strategic groups: strategic categories, interdependent strategic groups and strategic performance groups. The theory also reveals that the significance tests developed in ecological research need modifications for use in strategic groups research. Research limitations/implications A theory is proposed for interdependent strategic groups and a significance test of external isolation is proposed as part of this integrative solution. Originality/value This integrative solution appears to resolve the historical mismatch between theory and methods that has plagued this field since its inception. This creates a variety of intriguing areas for future research.

Abstract:
With the rise of online/mobile transactions, the cost of cash-out has decreased and the cost of detection has increased. In the world of online/mobile payment in IoT, merchants and credit cards can be applied and approved online and used in the form of a QR code but not a physical card or Point of Sale equipment, making it easy for these systems to be controlled by a group of fraudsters. In mainland China, where the credit card transaction fee is, on average, lower than a retail loan rate, the credit card cash-out option is attractive for people for an investment or business operation, which, after investigation, can be considered unlawful if over a certain amount is used. Because cash-out will incur fees for the merchants, while bringing money to the credit cards’ owners, it is difficult to confirm, as nobody will declare or admit it. Furthermore, it is more difficult to detect cash-out groups than individuals, because cash-out groups are more hidden, which leads to bigger transaction amounts. We propose a new method for the detection of cash-out groups. First, the seed cards are mined and the seed cards’ diffusion is then performed through the local graph clustering algorithm (Approximate PageRank, APR). Second, a merchant association network in IoT is constructed based on the suspicious cards, using the graph embedding algorithm (Node2Vec). Third, we use the clustering algorithm (DBSCAN) to cluster the nodes in the Euclidean space, which divides the merchants into groups. Finally, we design a method to classify the severity of the groups to facilitate the following risk investigation. The proposed method covers 145 merchants from 195 known risky merchants in groups that acquire cash-out from four banks, which shows that this method can identify most (74.4%) cash-out groups. In addition, the proposed method identifies a further 178 cash-out merchants in the group within the same four acquirers, resulting in a total of 30,586 merchants. The results and framework are already adopted and absorbed into the design for a cash-out group detection system in IoT by the Chinese payment processor.

Abstract:
Purpose – Strategic group has been intensively studied since this term emerged in 1970s, but previous studies have been limited to the comparisons between groups such as performance comparison. The purpose of this paper is to explore the internal structure of strategic groups by examining the effect of strategic distance from a firm to the center of its strategic group on firm performance. Design/methodology/approach – The research is based on data acquired from the annual reports of listed companies and some Chinese domestic databases, including CSMAR Solution, WIND financial database, and China Core Newspapers Full-text Database. After grouping listed pharmaceutical companies in China over the period 2010-2011, the authors test three hypotheses by using fixed effect regressions. Findings – The paper finds that the strategic distance from a firm to the center of its strategic group has a significant negative effect on the firm's financial performance. Two factors are discovered to influence that effect: corporate diversification strengthens the negative effect of strategic distance on performance, while firm's media visibility weakens that negative effect. Originality/value – The findings reveal the relationship between intra-group strategic positioning and firm performance, and specify how firms can gain competitive advantage through positioning choices and strategic actions. This study promotes the establishment of a more comprehensive strategic group theory by revealing the structure within strategic groups.

In fact, the authors consider a mixture model is the data generation process. Findings Two groups are identified. These groups are primarily characterized by size and other strategic variables. The probability of remaining in a group is generally high: 87.28 per cent for SG1 and 61.84 per cent for SG2. The probability of switching groups is low: 12.72 per cent probability of switching from SG1 to SG2 and 38.16 per cent probability of switching from SG2 to SG1. Banks in SG1 seem more stable over time; they have low levels of switching behavior and well-defined long-term behavior. Banks in SG2 seem to evolve in terms of group membership. Originality/value Using an inhomogeneous HMM with time-variable transition matrix, this paper allows for time-varying parameters in the distributions to analyze the evolution of strategic group membership in this industry to detect changes in group strategy, changes in membership and the stability of groups over time.

Abstract:
The way language is used within a certain community reflects the culture of its users but is it possible to accommodate the culture of others when different communities live within one country as citizens? This paper examined thirty Malaysian wedding cards gathered from the three dominant ethnic groups of Malay, Chinese and Indian. It focussed on the vitality of language and culture presented in current day wedding cards issued by modern day couples, that is, from the year 2000 onwards. Data extracted for analysis comprised the language printed on the cards followed by the symbolic and cultural features noted on and within the cards. Leech’s (1981) framework of making meanings from printed language was applied. Findings suggest that current day wedding cards of the three ethnic communities have adapted to modernisation in terms of design, colour and information. However, symbolic language and traditional and cultural features reflecting each of the respective community were still prevalent. The findings imply that despite the advancement of technology and globalisation, Malaysia’s diverse ethnic groups remained faithful to their cultures with each group retaining and promoting its respective symbolic features and cultural identity. This indicates that one’s ethnic identity and culture are important particularly when expressed through wedding cards. Our claim is confined to the analysis of a small portion of wedding cards, hence, a more extensive study may be necessary to verify this claim.

Abstract:
Background A recent randomized trial of bereaved family members of patients who died in an intensive care unit identified symptoms of depression and posttraumatic stress in recipients of semistructured condolence letters. Objectives To explore family member and clinician experiences with receiving or sending handwritten sympathy cards upon the death of patients involved in a personalized end-of-life intervention, the 3 Wishes Project. Methods Interviews and focus groups were held with 171 family members and 222 clinicians at 4 centers to discuss their experiences with the 3 Wishes Project. Interview transcripts were searched to identify participants who discussed sympathy cards. Data related to sympathy cards were independently coded by 2 investigators through conventional content analysis. Results Sympathy cards were discussed during 32 interviews (by 25 family members of 21 patients and by 11 clinicians) and 2 focus groups (8 other clinicians). Family members reported that personalized sympathy cards were a welcome surprise; they experienced them as a heartfelt act of compassion. Clinicians viewed cards as an opportunity to express shared humanity with families, reminding them that they and their loved one were not forgotten. Signing cards allowed clinicians to reminisce individually and collectively with colleagues. Family members and clinicians experienced sympathy cards as a meaningful continuation of care after a patient’s death. Conclusions Inviting clinicians who cared for deceased patients to offer personalized, handwritten condolences to bereaved family members may cultivate sincere and individualized expressions of sympathy that bereaved families appreciate after the death of patients involved in the 3 Wishes Project.

Abstract:
OBJECTIVE: Compare pattern of exploratory eye movements during visual scanning of the Rorschach and TAT test cards in people with schizophrenia and controls. METHOD: 10 participants with schizophrenia and 10 controls matched by age, schooling and intellectual level participated in the study. Severity of symptoms was evaluated with the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale. Test cards were divided into three groups: TAT cards with scenes content, TAT cards with interaction content (TAT-faces), and Rorschach cards with abstract images. Eye movements were analyzed for: total number, duration and location of fixation; and length of saccadic movements. RESULTS: Different pattern of eye movement was found, with schizophrenia participants showing lower number of fixations but longer fixation duration in Rorschach cards and TAT-faces. The biggest difference was observed in Rorschach, followed by TAT-faces and TAT-scene cards. CONCLUSIONS: Results suggest alteration in visual exploration mechanisms possibly related to integration of abstract visual information.

Abstract:
During the Two Sessions of 2018, Ruan Chengfa, the governor of Yunnan Province, proposed for the first time in the “Government Work Report” that the future development of Yunnan Province should rely on carrying out the “three green cards” strategic plan, in which the development of clean energy has obvious advantages in Yunnan Province. This paper aims to present the challenges and opportunities encountered in the development of major clean energy projects in our province, and to analyze the main impact of various forms of green capital injection on the clean energy sector by statistical analysis with reference to the index data in the “Statistical Yearbook of Yunnan Province” from the different investment perspectives of policy finance and commercial finance under “Green Finance”. In view of the current situation of clean energy development in our province, this paper puts forward relevant recommendations to provide a reference for government sectors, financial sectors, enterprises and other relevant subjects in Yunnan Province at the initial stage of formulating policy routes, so as to make timely adjustments to the problems in the development process to promote the development of “Green Finance” and “three green cards” strategic plan in Yunnan Province.

Abstract:
This study illustrates an active learning approach using instant feedback cards in the first course in accounting. The objectives of this study are to (1) describe instant feedback cards and (2) show how this tool, when used in an active learning environment, can enhance learning. We examined whether students exposed to immediate feedback scratch-off cards in an active learning environment would perform better on subsequent objective exams than students in a traditional lecture review setting. Students enjoyed the active learning aspect of working in groups, debating answers, and then using the scratch-off cards to select the correct multiple-choice responses. Scratch-off cards are a tool that educators may find very useful to enhance their lectures and add a component of active learning into their courses.
