AbstractProviding usable web information and services to as many people as possible confronts web professionals with a challenging task. The present study delivers insights about how Web accessibility is perceived in practice. Using a survey, a total of 163 web professionals in various roles reported their evaluation of Web accessibility implementation in their projects with regard to three aspects: the professional roles primarily responsible for Web accessibility, key phases in the development process, and the types of disabilities primarily considered. Results show that non-technical professional roles are perceived to be less involved in the development process, that Web accessibility considerations are mainly restricted to the design and implementation phases of projects, and that efforts focus predominantly on the needs of people with visual impairments.

As life expectancy increases, so does the number of Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) initiatives. The Living Usability Lab is a user-centered living laboratory aimed at open-innovation and evaluation of new approaches to AAL applications and services, where the different stakeholders may develop and evaluate innovative services for the elderly in near-real life conditions. These AAL initiatives often traverse several research fields, from embedded devices to multiple data streams analysis. Advanced processing, reasoning, and storage of such data streams poses a complex problem usually solved using local processing and storage resources. This chapter presents an overview of the LUL initiative, its services, and applications, and explores the problem of advanced processing, reasoning, and storage from a cloud computing perspective.

Abstract:
User involvement in cancer services operates at two levels: providing information and involving patients and carers in decision-making about their own care, and involving patients and carers in decisions about the development and management of cancer services. Information can be provided to patients verbally, in written material, and through patient-held records, and they can also have access to information via the Internet. Most people want to take an active role in making decisions about their care and treatment; however, this varies from person to person. Being fully informed is important to more people than being fully involved in the decision-making process itself. Issues of consent and competence are very important when involving patients, and nurses need to take account of these and also the condition of the patient, when involving them in the decision-making process. Involving cancer service users in evaluating and managing health care has the benefits of improving services and public understanding, and improving health. It can take the form of providing information and seeking feedback on services, consulting on developments to services, and participation in planning, managing, or evaluating services. These can be achieved through questionnaires and surveys, focus groups, membership of committees, or employing service users as consultants to services. For user involvement to be effective, it should be meaningful, the language should be inclusive, and minority perspectives should be represented.

Abstract:
Many hospitals are experiencing pressure to improve their operational efficiency and patient safety due to escalating costs and increased competition. In order to achieve these and other business objectives, hospitals have to outsource some of their Information Technology (IT) functions to external outsourcing contractors. The scope and range of IT-related outsourcing services are also increasing, as evidenced by the promotion of Applications Service Providers (ASP), Business-to-Business (B2B) integration, cloud-drive business and IT services, desktop and helpdesk, IT infrastructure services, and software development outsourcing. However, little attention has been paid by many hospitals to the key factors that affect their IT outsourcing decision-making and negotiation processes. This is important given that the IT outsourcing can play a key role in organizational success. Moreover, contract decision-making and negotiation processes in hospitals are particularly under-studied, especially in the management and evaluation of the IT outsourcing contracts. Hence, the main objectives of this chapter are to: (1) examine and identify some key factors affecting the management and evaluation of IT outsourcing contracts in Taiwanese hospitals; and (2) propose a set of recommendations to overcome or minimize the key issues identified in this study. One contribution of the study is the recommendations provided to deal with issues that are critical in the management and evaluation of IT outsourcing contracts in hospitals.

In order to address these concerns and offer the full benefits of personal data-intensive services to the public, service providers need to understand how to evaluate privacy concerns in evolving service contexts. By analyzing the earlier privacy concerns evaluation instruments, we can learn how to adapt them to new contexts. In this chapter, the historical development of the most widely used privacy concerns evaluation instruments is presented and analyzed regarding privacy concerns' dimensions. Privacy concerns' core dimensions and the types of context dependent dimensions to be incorporated into evaluation instruments are identified. Abstract:
Regional Australia continues to be the recipient of public programs premised on assumptions about the benefits of Information and Communications Technologies (ICTs) related development, at the same time as it is experiencing a reduction in basic services and problems associated with the digital divide. From a research perspective, these circumstances pose challenges on how to evaluate meaningfully the impacts of ICTs on regional development. These challenges are compounded by the considerable confusion that exists over what is meant by regional development, how it can be achieved, and how to measure and evaluate the role ICTs play in reviving and sustaining regional communities. The exploratory research reported in this chapter examines the issues surrounding what is meant by ICT-related development in a regional context. It also explores the usefulness of multiple measures, as opposed to single measures, to describe what in reality is a very complex process. In this context, the chapter outlines the preliminary development of, and the rationale behind, a holistic approach for evaluating the role of ICTs in regional development, based on insights generated from ongoing research in Tasmania. The role of ICT … in economic growth and social change has received considerable attention in recent years [but] … reliable and comprehensive indicators are needed to track developments in new information technologies and understand their impacts on our economies and societies. Abstract:
During the past several years, career pathway systems have expanded to prepare adults for the workforce. Although career pathways are not new, numerous states, the federal government, and philanthropic foundations continue to advance the idea to offer more postsecondary education and workforce training opportunities for adults. Coordinated policies, programs, and services involving adult basic education, community colleges, and workforce development are viewed as vital to creating highly functioning career pathways systems. This chapter describes three core functions of career pathways systems—pathway entry, integrated training, and career progression—and advances the notion that evaluations should be aligned to these functions to inform future policy and practice. Recognizing the value that these functions play independently and collectively in implementation and evaluation is key to supporting continuing efforts to scale career pathways systems nationwide.

Economics is the art of providing unlimited human needs with scarce resources as it comes to teaching. Very few of these resources have been used in such a way that they are ready in nature. Almost all of the goods and services that can meet the needs are obtained by the application of human labor (labor force) and capital to commodity. In recent years, labor capital and commodity factors were first added to entrepreneurs and then technology. Thus, the system we call the production process emerges. This study based on the information economy, the information economics indicator with Turk

Recent coronavirus lockdowns have had a significant impact on how students study. As states shut down schools, millions of students are now required to study at home with pre-recorded videos. This, however, proves challenging, as teachers have no way of knowing whether or not students are paying attention to the videos, and students may be easily distracted from important parts of the videos. Currently, there is virtually no research and development of applications revolving specifically around the subject of effectively taking digital notes from videos. The task of reusing Web services that meet quality attributes requirements is a challenging issue in service-based development approach. In such a context, a quality model can provide the means to effectively evaluation of services, enabling the certification of these services. In this sense, this paper proposes a quality model based on the ISO 9126 standard, defining a set of attributes and metrics for an effective evaluation of Web services. A XML-based representation and security schema for the model was created to support a service certification process. Moreover, a preliminary case study
