Abstract:
Background: Given national calls for intentional career development during graduate and post-graduate scientific training, this study assessed career readiness development within the context of academic career courses. The current study evaluated the effects of academic career courses offered at two institutions that were specifically designed to increase career awareness, interest, and career-related confidence among doctoral students and postdoctoral fellows. Methods: Participants enrolled in a career course at trainees’ respective academic institutions and responded to pre- and post-course surveys (n=32, n=148). The paper offers a thematic analysis of each of the two courses using an individualized learning plan career development framework and describes the results of their respective pretest-posttest evaluations which indicated increases in career readiness. Results: Though the format and content provided in each course varied, participation was associated with increases in career readiness. Participants reported increased career-awareness including a greater familiarity with different types of careers overall. Furthermore, interest in tenure track faculty careers increased in both samples, which may assuage fears that exposure to diverse career pathways could reduce interest in academic careers. Transferrable skills, including career planning and awareness also significantly increased. Course participants reported an increase in the number and type of mentors they interacted with beyond their principal faculty mentor (other faculty, professional PhDs, peers, and administrative staff). Conclusions: Findings provide supporting evidence for the benefits of implementing structured career development efforts during PhD training; even with varying content, delivery methods, and instructor type, both academic career courses led to significant gains in career awareness and readiness. Successful development and delivery of academic career courses, with a focus on career planning skills, suggest that institutions can utilize these and are an effective way to prepare PhDs for their transition from training positions into careers.

Abstract:
A critical component of management graduates' future success and work happiness is the planning of their professional careers. In order to better understand how several elements, including as those related to family, personal interests, financial rewards, peer influences, and motivation to work, this study looked at how management graduates in Pokhara planned their professional careers. A 285 management graduates from various institutions and colleges located within Pokhara Metropolitan city were participated in questionnaire survey. This study's methodology is an analytical and casual comparative research design. There are positive correlation between career planning of management graduates and family related factors (.274), career planning and personal interest (.059), career planning and financial benefits (.092), career planning and peer influences (.499) and career planning and motivation to work (.514). It is concluded that those who are more motivated at work are more likely to engage in professional career planning. The multiple regression analysis showed that professional career planning was significantly predicted by personal interest (.438), family related factors (.237), motivation to work (.575), but not by financial benefits (.009) and peer influences (-.014). In terms of professional career planning, the model explained 48.6 percent of the variance, and the goodness of fit metrics (F-Statistic= 17.345) showed that the model suited the data well. According to the findings, financial benefits and peer influences may not have as big of an impact on management graduates' professional career planning as personal interest, family related factors and motivation to work. Hence, this study contributes to point out the most pressing impact on management graduates while planning their professional plans.

One of the factors that led to the Modernising Medical Careers (MMC)/Medical Training Application Service disaster of 2007 was the discrepancy between the numbers of applicants and the actual number of posts available for appointment. In its submission to the Tooke enquiry, the Workforce Review Team stated that 'workforce planning needs to be at the core of any changes to a medical career structure (and that) in general this should be demand, not supply, led'. In an attempt to predict opportunities for general surgery over the next five years we have estimated demand from numbers of consultant appointments advertised and supply from numbers of specialist registrars (national training numbers (NTNs)).

Abstract:
The paper reconstructs the ways of attributing meanings to IT specialists’ careers at BPO (Business Process Outsourcing) centers in Poland. The findings rely on empirical data, collected through autobiographical narrative interviews. The technique of analysis applied in the study was inspired by grounded theory methodology and allowed for the identification of a basic social process at the analytical stage, namely, “career planning.” On the one hand, the analysis also showed how IT specialists’ careers are given meanings concerning career planning; there seem to be three main ways of understanding one’s career in IT: (1) in terms of reaching economic and social stability, (2) as a transition period in a career as an IT specialist, (3) with regard to becoming an expert in IT. On the other hand, the second axis of analysis has been conceptualized, which is comprised of other subjective and objective elements that may shape career planning. These include the biographical experiences of work, the context of the Polish BPO industry, and career planning resources. Furthermore, a typology consisting of three ways of attributing meanings to IT specialists’ careers at BPO centers has been put forward and analyzed.

Abstract:
Everyone dreams of a brilliant career in life. But in reality, in planning and determining a career, there are many problems, especially for teenagers who will enter adulthood, namely high school students. Many students have difficulty deciding which major, study program or job to choose after graduation. To overcome this, the role of BK teachers as counselors in schools is needed to carry out career guidance. Career guidance is a counseling service needed by individuals or students to help develop their potential and find their identity as well as plan and determine their careers. Career guidance can be carried out using a trait and factor theory approach, which is a counseling method that focuses on identifying individual/student traits or characters so that students can find their identity and do not hesitate in planning and choosing their careers. From several studies that have been carried out, it is proven that career guidance with a trait and factor approach is effective in helping reduce student doubts about career termination as well as improving students' understanding and career planning.

Individuals with substance abuse disorders (S-AD) are also human beings who need self-development and future careers. The career development of individuals with GPZ hasn’t been fully considered in planning drug rehabilitation programs, although overall, the rehabilitation program has been excellent. Measurement of career planning ability needs to be measured by the condition of individuals with GPZ. The purpose of this study was to analyse the career planning abilities of individuals with GPZ undergoing drug rehabilitation and the urgency of career counselling. Mix-method research with explanatory sequential design begins with quantitative data and then integrates qualitative data. The data on career planning ability variables were collected on research subjects in individuals with GPZ. Quantitative data were collected through a career planning ability questionnaire with 32 questions, then qualitative data through interviews with one individual, all taken by random sampling—the average career planning ability of individuals with low GPZ. Counsellors should be able to develop ten career planning skills on how to learn information, career discussions with adults, training related to education, knowledge of working conditions, discussion of career challenges, planning work after rehabilitation programs, managing leisure time, developing self-confidence during rehabilitation, as well as the state of oneself when working without illegal drugs. Although career planning skills are low, addiction counsellors have a role in their development, with ten abilities discovered through career counselling. Career counselling as an addiction counsellor attempts to help individuals with GPZ develop their potential.

This study samples 52 first-year university students and 56 first year junior college student. The purpose is to identify and improve the deficiency in the application of flipped classrooms to career planning courses under different academic systems at colleges, so as to enhance benefits to students. In addition, this study adopts the Learning Satisfaction Questionnaire as the assessment tool. The statistical analysis and the research findings suggest that in general, older students (with an average age of 18) in the first year of the four-year technical program are more satisfied with the teaching model of flipped classrooms than younger students (with an average age of 15) in the first year of the five-year junior college program. The teaching model of flipped classrooms has differing effects on students in different academic systems. Based on the research findings, for 4-year technical program freshmen, after taking the flipping career planning course it is about 92% of students have personal specialty-oriented career planning; for first-year junior college students, after taking the flipping career planning course it is about to 86% of students have personal specialty-oriented career planning. This paper develops suggestions for the application of flipped classrooms to the teaching of career planning courses to college students. It serves as a template for the promotion of flipped classroom teaching in higher education for specialty-oriented career planning courses in colleges.

Abstract:
This study ascertains the conditional indirect effects of core self-evaluation and career planning, particularly regarding early employment status and job search behavior based on the theory of planned behavior. For this purpose, we collected data from 400 respondents using the simple random sampling method. The results reveal that most young graduates have early career success if they possess initiative and a thoughtful disposition and demonstrate rigorous job-seeking behavior. Young people can access early employment opportunities if they adopt a proactive approach toward their careers. Effective career planning with active career searching behavior, supplemented by high levels of core self-evaluation, can increase chances of early career success. Moreover, our findings have practical implications for young people in terms of encouraging them to plan their careers in a more organized and proactive manner.

Abstract:
Due to increased trend in job transitions, prospects of occupation these days are difficult to predict. Therefore, workers need to develop differentiated set of skills and competences to be able to adapt to a variety of available occupations. The volatility in employability due to ever changing technologies, business environments and models need to focus on becoming lifelong learners not only to maintain their employability but to create more opportunities for themselves. This situation has affected work like of people in a way that the careers no more belong to the organizations but to individual. According to the literature on boundaryless careers, there are three types of variables that can be used to predict career success. Combinations of these three variables are generally referred to as career competencies. Theoretical research reveals that 'understanding why, ‘whom,' and 'how' are the three most important indicators of career success. The findings demonstrate that proactive career behaviors are predicted by future work self and identity resolution. Future work self has a significant positive impact on employment status and, as a result, can lead to future employment success. The findings also revealed that future work self predicts career planning the most. Career consultation is the second most reliable indicator of future employment. Future work self can also forecast proactive skill improvement and proactive career consulting. The study showed results that identity resolution predicts career planning the most. Identity resolution also predicts proactive skill development, career consultation and proactive career networking.

Abstract:
Several factors play a role in job selection after completion of a hematology/oncology training program, such as a fellows’ overall career goals, expected income potential, and limitations imposed by visa status, among many others. Training programs play an integral role in mentoring trainees in career selection. For many, the first job is often not career-long. In addition to considerations for a fellow considering a first job out of fellowship, physicians will consider a change because of dissatisfaction at one’s current position, desire for advancement opportunities, or a desire to work in a different sector. Other factors include non-occupational issues such as career opportunities for a spouse or desire for a different geographic location. Frequent employment changes are common with crossover between academia, clinical practice, industry, or government service. Possessing the skills needed to recognize one’s strengths, weaknesses, and goal prioritization can allow for more optimal job selection should a career transition into a different discipline occur. Recognizing opportunities that present themselves and potentially taking advantage of them can lead to professional and personal growth.

Abstract:
As a highly popular social networking site (SNS) for exchanging information about their personal activities, values, goals, and accomplishments with their online “friends,” Facebook (FB)© enables social comparisons and identity negotiations that may influence college students’ career planning confidence. However, to date, no studies have examined whether FB use activities and “friend” networks are uniquely associated with such confidence when dispositional variables associated with students’ needs for belongingness and self-presentation are concurrently controlled. In the present study, participants provided information about their FB use activities and networks and completed self-report measures of adult attachment security, authenticity, career decision self-efficacy, and career aspirations. We hypothesized that, controlling for features of FB use, adult attachment security and authenticity would make significant and incremental contributions to our indicators of career confidence and that authenticity would mediate expected relations between attachment security and these outcomes. Our findings yielded general support for these hypotheses. Implications for career counseling practice that considers both clients’ relational dispositions and uses of social media are discussed.

Almost 43.2% of nurses want to stay working in clinical practice; 38.7% of nurses are interested in a managerial position; 18% want to work as a teacher. Nurses are not interested in research in nursing. Within the career trends in nursing, the most preferred post was the school nurse. There was no statistically significant difference in the age of the respondents according to their field of career (p=0.41) or according to their preference of application (p=0.36). The perception of managerial and pedagogical skills of the respondents did not correlate with age or length of experience. Conclusion: Nursing students' career preferences change as they progress through their training: nursing career planning and management; career growth increase job satisfaction; provision of quality and safe nursing care. The students of the study program Nursing show great ambivalence in their ideas about their future career. This opens wide possibilities for educators, managers, mentors, and nurses in practice to significantly positively influence and formation the career preferences of students.

Abstract:
Objectives The purpose of this study was to empirically examine the structural relationship between job values, career planning, and college life satisfaction among the MZ generation. Methods Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) using R was used in this study to analyze the structural relationship between job values, career planning, and college life satisfaction using data from the 14th (2020) of the Youth Panel (YP) survey. Results The study found that career planning among the MZ generation partially mediates the relationship between their job values and university life satisfaction. Students' intrinsic job values have a direct impact on their university life satisfaction, and this impact is particularly high through career planning. Higher perceived intrinsic job values positively influence career planning, which in turn, has a positive effect on university life satisfaction. Conclusions Based on the research findings, the following suggestions are proposed for university innovation. First, a reassessment of career education programs at universities is necessary, as well as the development of systematic programs. Career education should go beyond simple understanding and information about the job world and consider how to induce self-goal setting and higher intellectual pursuit. Second, as part of policies to increase student satisfaction, there is a need to include changes and improvements in the perception of careers. In particular, in improving university education, detailed learner analysis that can reflect inherent values in addition to the latest trends in each field of study should precede. Third, it is necessary to establish career competence enhancement programs that can foster students' inherent occupational values and a system that can visibly link these programs to university life achievements.

Full text
Abstract:
Portfolio careers in medicine can be defined as significant involvement in one or more portfolios of activity beyond a practitioner’s primary clinical role, either concurrently or in sequence. Portfolio occupations may include medical education, research, administration, legal medicine, the arts, engineering, business and consulting, leadership, politics and entrepreneurship. Despite significant interest among junior doctors, portfolios are poorly integrated with prevocational and speciality training programs in Australia. The present paper seeks to explore this issue. More formal systems for portfolio careers in Australia have the potential to increase job satisfaction, flexibility and retention, as well as diversify trainee skill sets. Although there are numerous benefits from involvement in portfolio careers, there are also risks to the trainee, employing health service and workforce modelling. Formalising pathways to portfolio careers relies on assessing stakeholder interest, enhancing flexibility in training programs, developing support programs, mentorship and coaching schemes and improving support structures in health services. What is known about the topic? Portfolio careers are well understood as a career structure in general business. However, in medicine little is known about the concept of portfolio careers, their drivers, benefits and risks. There are significant issues faced by the Australian junior medical workforce such as a need for diversified skill-sets (e.g. increased involvement in research, public health and leadership), low job satisfaction for junior doctors and an increasing emphasis of work-life balance and mental well-being. What does this paper add? This paper critically analyses the concept of portfolio careers in the postgraduate setting by critiquing literature on the international and national experiences in this field. This paper outlines potential benefits of portfolio careers requiring further research, such as a diversification in the workforce and improved job satisfaction. Risks include reducing the health service provision capacity of junior doctors and drawing doctors away from a medical career. What are the implications for practitioners? This paper has substantial educational and workforce implications for medical students, junior doctors and medical managers. For medical students and junior doctors this paper frames the possibilities in a medical career, as well as benefits and risks of aiming for a portfolio career in medicine. For medical managers, this paper suggests strategies for further research, enhancing workforce job satisfaction and potential pitfalls of increasing opportunities for medical portfolio careers.

Contemporary career guidance and counselling approaches with particular interest to subjects which concern the development of career management skills since these skills are considered important means for the active exploration of the vocational course and the development of a career. The development of skills related to career adaptability and self-efficacy in the planning of a career could help students who are finishing Upper-secondary School (Lykeio) to approach creatively their career aims, and to deal effectively with the transitions or unexpected events by applying appropriate actions. The present study employed the survey research strategy in order to examine the level of the career adaptability and self-efficacy in the planning of a career with male and female students (N = 240) of Upper-secondary Schools (General Lykeia - GEL) and Vocational Upper-secondary Schools (Vocational Lykeia - EPAL) in Greece. Specifically, it examined the level of skills which students declare that they possess regarding the type of school, their gender and the educational level of the parents. The finding that the levels of career adaptability differentiated not only as regards the gender of the students but also the studies of the father and the mother has presented particular interest while the students who study at the General Lykeia were found to have higher scores in the areas: “career interest” and “curiosity” in the Career Adapt-abilities Scale (CAAS) compared with students who study at the Vocational Lykeia (EPAL). Finally, the motif of the scores in the B’ Class of Lykeio showed that the students of EPAL excelled in all the skills apart from the factor “career interest” while correspondingly in the C’ class of Lykeio students of the General Lykeio (GEL) excelled in all skill categories. Keywords: upper-secondary school students, self-efficacy, career adaptability, career management, Perceived Self-Efficacy in Career Planning, Career Adapt-Abilities Scale.

Abstract:
Women continue to be disproportionately underrepresented in science and engineering fields. A model for career choice is proposed that includes both the direct and indirect effects that socializers can play in determining career choices. A sample of 2213 high school seniors from nine schools in Rhode Island were surveyed about their academic and career choices and the perceived influences on those choices. Parents and teachers were perceived to be influences on career choice more often for students (both men and women) choosing careers in engineering and science than for those not choosing such careers. Pay was a more important factor in career choice for men in general, and genuine interest was a more important factor for women not choosing careers in engineering or science. However, these gender differences do not appear among students with extremely strong mathematics and science coursework backgrounds, even though there remains a marked disparity in the proportion of men to women planning careers in engineering or science. Teachers may play a particularly important role in influencing the career choice of some of these women. Equity of access and encouragement in mathematics and science is certainly a necessary, but insufficient, condition for improving the representation of women in science and engineering.

Abstract:
Career planning is an intensive process that is directed towards the achievement of career goals. One needs to have a career direction to move forward, along with a passion for that career. People desire to achieve professional goals through career planning and seeking counselling at various stages. This research explores the understanding of career planning and counselling among the students and identifies the factors playing a critical role in the career choice of an individual. It also focuses on hurdles faced during the process and the ways to address those issues. The results suggest that factors affecting career planning are environment-based. The hurdles that students come across are also aligned with that. Therefore to strengthen the ability of individuals to have better career planning, career counselling is required to tone up the thoughts of students and make them productive human resource for the country. The practical implications and prospects are discussed.

Abstract:
It is aimed at studying the role of parenting style on the career planning of vocational students in the context of information technology. This design takes the first-year and second-year students of two higher vocational colleges as the survey objects. From the perspective of educational psychology, firstly, the parenting style scale of these students is constructed, and meanwhile, the dimension design of career planning is carried out. Secondly, through the questionnaire survey, the career planning of students and the status quo of parenting styles are investigated, and the sample data are statistically analyzed by data analysis methods such as standard deviation analysis, cluster analysis, and correlation analysis. Finally, hypotheses are formulated and justified. The results reveal that the total score for career planning and the average score of each dimension are more than 3 points, indicating that vocational students have certain plans for their future careers. There are great differences in the gender of parenting styles, and the parental acceptance/involvement ( t = 3.389 , p < 0.01 ) dimension of the parenting style of the first-year students is greatly higher than that of the second-year students. On the dimension of psychological autonomy ( t = − 2.066 , p < 0.05 ), the score of second-year students is distinctly higher than that of the first year. There are obvious differences in grades from the dimensions of parental acceptance/participation and psychological autonomy. There is no observable difference in whether it is an only child ( p > 0.05 ) and the place of origin ( p > 0.05 ). In terms of the total score and each dimension of career planning, the authoritative type scored the highest, and the neglect type scored the lowest. Parents’ participation and acceptance behavior of vocational students are markedly related to their career planning. Parental punishment and acceptance are distinctly positively correlated with the career planning of these students and their two dimensions. Psychological autonomy is memorably associated with the domain of exploration.

Abstract:
Career path is a tiered pattern used to improve nurse performance and professional competence. Regional General Hospitals in Aceh Province were used as the research site to enhance nurse competence by implementing a clinical career path pattern. The Objective of the study was to determine the application of the clinical nurse career path pattern from the perspective of a nurse manager at a regional general hospital in Aceh Province. A qualitative method and phenomenological approach involving 10 correspondence was used with characteristics as nurse managers with a minimum educational background of Diploma III in nursing, and had worked for four years in a hospital. Then, the data were analyzed using the Colaizzi method. This research resulted in 3 themes that became obstacles in applying career path, including reduced implementation of clinical nurse re-credential, the lack of management support and commitment, and limited resources for applying career path pattern. The application of the pattern of professional clinical nurse career paths has not run optimally. Therefore, the hospital and nursing management should support and be committed to planning career path pattern. This include planning the HR needs, compiling and ratifying guidelines, conducting explicit socialization and re-credentials. They should also provide rewards through career development in the form of education and training following the competency gap of nurses.
