Abstract:
Background:Patients who achieve remission promptly could have a specific genetic risk profile that supports regaining immune tolerance. The identification of these genes could provide novel drug targets. Objectives:To test the association between RA genetic risk variants with achieving remission at 6 months. Methods:We computed genetic risk scores (GRS) comprising of the RA susceptibility variants1 and HLA-SE status separately in 4425 patients across eight datasets from inception cohorts. Remission was defined as DAS28CRP<2.6 at 6 months. Missing DAS28CRP values in patients were imputed using predictive mean matching by MICE. We first tested whether baseline DAS28CRP changed with increasing GRS using linear regression. Next, we calculated odds ratios for GRS and HLA-SE on remission using logistic regression. Heterogeneity of the outcome between datasets was mitigated by running inverse variance meta-analysis.Results:Evaluation of the complete dataset, baseline clinical variables did not differ between patients achieving remission and those who did not (Table 1). Distribution of GRS was consistent between datasets. Neither GRS nor HLA-SE was associated with baseline DAS2DAS (OR1.01; 95% CI 0.99-1.04). A fixed effect meta-analysis (Figure 1.) showed no significant effect of the GRS (OR 0.99; 95% CI 0.94-1.03) or HLA-SE (OR 0.8CRP87; 95% CI 0.75-1.01) on remission at 6 months.Table 1.Summary of the data separated by disease activity after 6 months.allRemission at 6 monthsNo remission at 6 monthsN4425*15582430Age, mean (sd)55.38 (13.87)5517 (14.09)55.62 (13.59)Female %68.98%65.43%70.73%ACPA+ %61.94%63.53%61.67%Baseline DAS28, mean (sd)4.76 (1.22)4.47 (1.23)5.1 (1.15)*not all patients had 6 months dataConclusion:In these combined cohorts, RA genetics risk variants are not associated with early disease remission. At baseline there was no difference in genetic risk between patients achieving remission or not. Studies encompassing other genetic variants are needed to elucidate the genetics of RA remission.References:[1]Knevel R et al. Abstract:

Abstract:
Three experiments on long-term isolation and educational deprivation of infants were performed 50 years ago by Myrtle McGraw and by Wayne and Marsena Dennis. Current textbooks regularly present these studies incorrectly as supporting the notion that early motor development is unaffected by environment. This presentation is shown to be incorrect by a reanalysis of the studies which indicates severe and far-reaching negative effects of the depriving conditions upon the experimental infants. A follow-up study of the experimental subjects in later years and a publication of McGraw's unreported study are called for.

Abstract:
Abstract Dennis Hirota is a modern master of Shin Buddhism who for several decades has explicated the role of natural language in fostering Buddhist awakening. At the core of his oeuvre is the claim that Shin Buddhism’s founder, Shinran Shonin (1173-1263), accepted the earlier Mahayana teaching of nondual awareness as a necessary condition for awakening. Shinran’s unique contribution was to insist that ordinary persons were, as a matter of historical circumstance, incapable of the disciplines required to arrive at non-dual awareness. It was just this circumstance that the historical Buddha foresaw when he taught the Larger Pure Land Sutra, in which the mind of the Buddha Amida, perfect wisdom and compassion, became available to ordinary people who call his Name in joyful sincerity. This is a difficult teaching of “non-practice” that embraces many subtleties. As a heuristic to ease the way into Shinran as Hirota presents him, this paper introduces a painting by the modern Japanese scientist and artist, Iwasaki Tsuneo. This is not a “Shin painting,” but certainly a “Mahayana painting” that connects the aspiration of an ordinary person to ultimate truth through the text of the Heart Sutra, arguably the quintessential Buddhist teaching of non-dual awareness.

Abstract:
The majority of unstable pelvic injuries are accompanied by sacrum fractures of different localization. Experience in treatment of 8 patients with multiple concomitant injuries and sacrum fractures at the level of sacrum canal (Denis 3) is presented. All patients with acute condition were admitted into intensive care unit and underwent complex examination. At this step of intensive care the complexity of sacrum fractures and nerve injuries diagnosis is conditioned by the severity of patient’s condition. Patients with pelvic injuries require careful examination for detection of sacrum and nerve injuries in this region. However taking into account the multiplicity of injuries the emergency operation for nerve roots revision is not expedient. At rendering care to such patients the basic principles should be the conception of injuries control with preference given to stable and functional methods of fracture fixation. In our opinion all Denis 3 fractures with neurologic disorders require decompression-stabilizing operations that enable to mobilize patients, to determine and probably to improve the prognosis of neurologic pathology.

Introduction Few writings within the realms of archives and special collections have reverberated throughout the field to the degree of Mark A. Greene and Dennis Meissner’s 2005 article “More Product, Less Process: Revamping Traditional Archival Processing.”1 Its clarion call to shift archival arrangement and description away from time-consuming, detailed processes toward rapid, minimalist strategies was met with both cheers and groans that continue unabated. In a sign of its ubiquity, the approach advocated by Greene and Meissner is now simply referred to as “MPLP,” and its implementation is the subject of ongoing discussion in numerous venues, including professional journals, conference . . .

AbstractAs part of critical review of the Geometroidea and Noctuoidea described by Linnaeus the species described by Carl Clerck (1710-1765) are reviewed. Clerck (1759) described 25 nominal species of Geometroidea and Noctuoidea, all of Swedish origin, 22 of which are currently regarded as valid. 17 lectotypes are designated, 9 from the Clerck Collection, 6 from the Linnaeus Collection, and 2 from De Geer's collection. The name fulvago Clerck is a new junior synonym of Agrochola helvola (Linnaeus, 1758). The name "fulvago: Linnaeus 1761" is a later citation of Oerck's name, and thus should not replace the name Xanthia sulphurago (Denis & Schiffermüller, 1775). The name hepatica Clerck is a new senior synonym of Lithophane socia (Hufnagel, 1766). For Polia hepatica auct., nec Clerck, the name tincta Brahm, 1790 is available.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Abstract Dialect variation is perceived and encoded in everyday language situations. Studies in the field of folk linguistic enquiry which has come to be known as perceptual dialectology, pioneered in the 1980s by scholars such as Dennis Preston, showed that beliefs nonlinguists have about language variation can play a critical role in language maintenance and change. This paper is an attempt to rethink the issue of accent identification from the perspective of perceptual dialectology by discussing the methodological hurdles to overcome when assessing folk perception of dialects. Illustration comes from two recent studies tackling the perception of geolinguistics variation in Eastern Canada. A comparison of the most common data collection techniques such as mental mapping, dialect identification tests requiring informants to listen to voices of different degrees of dialect markedness and dialect questionnaires raises several issues that call for a diversification of research design including indirect attitude measurements, especially affective priming.

Abstract:
This article analyses Australian audiovisual treatments of contemporary refugee experiences of the Australian government’s “Pacific Solution”, which was introduced after the Tampa affair in 2001. I call into question the conventional premise of much documentary filmmaking, that the moving photographic image can reveal the reality of that experience (indexicality). That approach is exemplified, I argue, by Eva Orner’s award-winning film, Chasing Asylum (2014), which aspired to reveal the truth about conditions in the Regional Processing Centre on Nauru and thereby to shock Australian audiences into demanding a change in government policy. The problem with the film is that its reliance on the norms of documentary has the unintended consequence of silencing the detainees and reducing them to the status of vulnerable and victimised objects. The article concludes by comparing Chasing Asylum with an installation by Dennis Del Favero, Tampa 2001 (2015), which exemplifies a nonrepresentational, affect-based aesthetic that says less in order to achieve more in evoking complex refugee stories of dispossession or disappearance.
