Abstract:
We studied the behavioural effect of increasing the frequency of handling in Red-winged Blackbird (Agelaius phoeniceus), a species that is weight sensitive to captivity. Manipulations consisted in weighing groups of birds every 1, 3, 6, and 9 days, and measuring their food consumption, activity level, and behaviour. Results show that the more frequently the birds are manipulated, the less active they become, the less food they consume, and the more weight they lose. On the day of the manipulation, all birds reacted similarly, regardless of the frequency of manipulation for their group. They remained inactive for extended periods of time after being manipulated, probably because of the stress induced. The next day, they fed as much or more than the day before the manipulation. The longer the time interval between manipulations, the better their weight recovery. If stresses were at too close a time interval from one another, the birds constantly lost weight. Spacing manipulations, whatever they are, would be a reasonable solution to avoid the expression of disturbed behaviours and the loss of weight in captive wild birds used in behavioral studies.

Abstract:
Social facilitation is an important factor of behaviour synchronization in gregarious birds. Social facilitation was measured and compared in conditions of constant light or during a light–darkness (LD) cycle, using ten Redwing Blackbirds (Agelaius phoeniceus), to determine the effects of social contacts between individuals in the absence of an LD cycle. Results showed that the LD cycle and social contacts had different effects depending on the type of behaviour involved. The LD cycle is more efficient than social stimulation in synchronizing activities, and social stimulation alone cannot synchronize feeding behaviour in individuals, although it can reduce the frequency of locomotory behaviours under conditions of alternating light and darkness. Each factor, LD cycle or social stimulation, can by itself have an important effect on the synchronization of grooming behaviours and the combination of the two factors further enhances synchrony. The role of social stimulation as a supplementary and complementary agent in synchronizing the activities in Redwing Blackbirds is discussed.

Abstract:
Caroun croaker (Johnius carouna) is one of demersal fishes which are commonly caught in the south of Java waters. This fish captured by trammel net, gillnet, danish seine and mini trawl. This study aims to determine length and weight relationship, growth parameter, length frequency distribution and condition factors of croaker fish caught in the south of Java waters. This study was conducted from January-December 2015 at the Cilacap Ocean Fisheries Port, Central Java. Data collected was total length (TL in mm) and weight (W in g) of caroun croacker fish. A total of 2141 of Caroun croaker was caught by mini trawl during the sampling periods. The result showed that the size of croaker fish caught by mini trawl ranged between 85-225 mm with an average was 143.7 mm. Length and weight relationship expressed by equation of W = 0.0062 TL3.2889 ( R2 = 0.9443). The growth pattern of croaker fish was allometric positive. The Von Bertalanffy growth equation of caroun croacker fish in south of Java waters was Lt =155 (1 - e -0.9(t+0.2127)) with the asymptotic length (L∞) =155 mm, growth coefficient (K) = 0.9 per year and the theoretical age croaker fish that was equal to (t0) = - 0,2127.

Abstract:

Abstract:
AbstractSub-pulse drifting has been regarded as one of the most insightful aspects of the pulsar radio emission. The phenomenon is generally explained with a system of emission sub-beams rotating around the magnetic axis, originating from a carousel of sparks near the pulsar surface (the carousel model). Since the observed radio emission at different frequencies is generated at different altitudes in the pulsar magnetosphere, corresponding sampling of the carousel on the polar cap differs slightly in magnetic latitude. When this aspect is considered, it is shown here that the carousel model predicts important observable effects in multi-frequency or wide-band observations. Also presented here are brief mentions of how this aspect can be exploited to probe the electrodynamics in the polar cap by estimating various physical quantities, and correctly interpret various carousel related phenomena, in addition to test the carousel model itself.

Abstract:
Bacterial blight of carrot (Daucus carota subsp. sativus), caused by the plant-pathogenic bacterium Xanthomonas hortorum pv. carotae, is a common seedborne disease of carrot wherever the crop is grown. Carrot seed lots were evaluated to determine the variability and distribution of populations of X. hortorum pv. carotae among individual carrot seeds. Twenty-four carrot seed lots harvested between 2014 and 2016 were subjected to a bulk seed wash dilution-plate assay to obtain mean X. hortorum pv. carotae levels. Mean infestation levels resulting from the bulk seed wash assays among the 24 seed lots ranged from 1.2 × 107 and 9.6 × 108 CFU/g seed and averaged 3.6 × 108 CFU/g seed. Individual seeds from the same 24 lots were also tested with a scaled-down wash assay of individual seeds. Among the 1,380 seeds that were individually assayed, 475 X. hortorum pv. carotae-positive seeds were detected (34.4%). Rates of X. hortorum pv. carotae detection on individual seed in seed lots ranged from 0% (not detected) to 97.9%, and the mean and median X. hortorum pv. carotae population on an individual seed was 8.3 × 104 and 6.3 × 101 CFU/seed, respectively. Among individual seeds, X. hortorum pv. carotae populations ranged from 2 (the limit of detection of the assay) to 3.6 × 107 CFU/seed. CFU data for 23 of the 24 seed lots were nonnormal and the Log-Logistic (3P) distribution best described populations of X. hortorum pv. carotae recovered from individual carrot seeds. The influence and impact of nonnormal distributions of X. hortorum pv. carotae in commercial carrot seed lots on seed health tests, seedborne transmission, and bacterial blight epidemiology requires further study.

Abstract:
The relationship between levels of carrot (Daucus carota subsp. sativus) seed contamination with Xanthomonas campestris pv. carotae and (i) establishment of populations of X. campestris pv. carotae on carrot leaves and (ii) the incidence and severity of carrot bacterial blight was determined in field plots in Davis, California, in 1995 and 1996. Levels of seed contamination ranged from 0 to 1.5 × 105 CFU/g in 1995 and from 0 to 1.5 × 107 CFU/g in 1996. Seed contamination levels were positively correlated with X. campestris pv. carotae populations detected on leaves and with the incidence and severity of carrot bacterial blight. The size of X. campestris pv. carotae populations on leaves was also directly related to disease incidence. In 1996, yields were significantly reduced in plots established with seed lots having the highest levels of X. campestris pv. carotae contamination. Under the conditions of this study (i.e., a location having low rainfall and relative humidity), the threshold of seed contamination for the establishment of X. campestris pv. carotae populations on leaves and for the development of carrot bacterial blight was unexpectedly high: 104 to 105 CFU/g of seed.

Abstract:
Purpose This study was conducted to determine whether there is contamination on exterior drug packaging using shipping totes from the distributor and carousel storage bins as surrogate markers of external packaging contamination. Methods A two-part study was conducted to measure the presence of 5-fluorouracil, ifosfamide, cyclophosphamide, docetaxel and paclitaxel using surrogate markers for external drug packaging. In Part I, 10 drug distributor shipping totes designated for transport of hazardous drugs provided a snapshot view of contamination from regular use and transit in and out of the pharmacy. An additional two totes designated for transport of non-hazardous drugs served as controls. In Part II, old carousel storage bins (i.e. those in use pre-study) were wiped for snapshot view of hazardous drug contamination on storage bins. New carousel storage bins were then put into use for storage of the five tested drugs and used for routine storage and inventory maintenance activities. Carousel bins were wiped at time intervals 0, 8, 16 and 52 weeks to measure surface contamination. Results Two of the 10 hazardous shipping totes were contaminated. Three of the five-old carousel bins were contaminated with cyclophosphamide. One of the old carousel bins was also contaminated with ifosfamide. There were no detectable levels of hazardous drugs on any of the new storage bins at time 0, 8 or 16 weeks. However, at the Week 52, there was a detectable level of 5-FU present in the 5-FU carousel bin. Conclusions Contamination of the surrogate markers suggests that external packaging for hazardous drugs is contaminated, either during the manufacturing process or during routine chain of custody activities. These results demonstrate that occupational exposure may occur due to contamination from shipping totes and storage bins, and that handling practices including use of personal protective equipment is warranted.

Abstract:
Detection of the carrot bacterial leaf blight pathogen, Xanthomonas campestris pv. carotae, was achieved using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) along with primer pairs developed from sequences of cloned random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) fragments. Primer pairs 3S and 9B directed the amplification of ∼350-bp and ∼900-bp (or ∼2 kb) DNA fragments, respectively, from genomic DNA of all known X. campestris pv. carotae strains tested, but not from that of 13 other X. campestris pathovars or other bacterial species, including yellow non-xanthomonad bacteria isolated from carrot tissues and seeds. In tests conducted with an extensive collection of X. campestris pv. carotae-like strains isolated from different substrates from California, Idaho, Oregon, Washington, and Canada, the 3S primer pair directed the amplification of the ∼350-bp target fragment from all strains. These results indicated that the 3S primer pair is highly specific for X. campestris pv. carotae detection. Using the 3S primer pair, PCR assays were developed for detection of X. campestris pv. carotae from colonies on agar media, carrot leaf and stem tissues, and seeds. These tests could be performed in a single day. The PCR-based seed assay detected X. campestris pv. carotae from lots with contamination rates ranging from 2 × 102 to 2.3 × 108 CFU per gram of seed. This assay gave results similar to a seed-wash dilution plating assay and proved more sensitive than an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA)-based assay.

Abstract:
Described from trade-skins of unknown origins, Parotia berlepschi Kleinschmidt, 1897 was the subject of a longstanding ornithological mystery that remained unresolved for well over a century. With few specimens and no known wild population, most taxonomic assessments over the last century have treated P. berlepschi as a subspecies of Parotia carolae Meyer, 1894. Following discovery of its geographical home in 2005, most authorities returned to giving P. berlepschi full species status. However, evidence supporting the delineation of P. berlepschi from P. carolae has not yet been fully articulated in the literature. Here, we assess phenotypic differentiation and the taxonomic status of P. berlepschi relative to P. carolae based on specimens and recordings of wild birds. With regard to external appearance and voice, which are important intersexual signals among polygynous birds-of-paradise, our analysis confirms that P. berlepschi is well-differentiated from P. carolae and should be treated as specifically distinct. Evidence for differentiation in courtship behavior is inconclusive and requires further study.

Abstract:
Studies have been carried out to evaluate the efficiency of using easy-assembled cow houses in modern milk production technologies for the use of high-productive milking plants of the type ‘Parallel’ and ‘Carousel’ with 32 machines each. It has been established that new types of premises not only provide comfortable conditions for the maintenance of highly productive cows, but also reduce the labor costs for their maintenance and, most importantly, allow the use of modern high-productive milking installations of the type ‘Parallel’ and ‘Carousel’. It has been established that the technology of preparation of cows for milking and milking technology provides more complete display of the milk ejection reflex at the installation of the ‘Parallel’ type. The average intensity of cows’ milk flows at this plant is 30% higher compared to those of the installation of ‘Carousel’ type, which is confirmed by the intensity of milk flow production at the first minute of milking, which is at the level of 2.97 against 1.85 kg min.-1 per installation of ‘Carousel’ type. Milk obtained using a milking installation of the ‘Parallel’ type has higher values of the mass fraction of fat and protein that is associated with the genetic potential of animals. According to physical, chemical and technological properties, milk obtained from milking installations such as ‘Parallel’ and ‘Carousel’ is within the limits of the standards in force. Milk obtained from the use of milking equipment such as ‘Carousel’ has higher electrical conductivity at the level of 4.6 mS cm-3, which is confirmed by a higher level of mastitis disease of cows. Due to bacterial contamination, reductase test and milk clot characteristic, milk obtained using a milk installation of ‘Parallel’ type also has higher quality indicators than the installation of ‘Carousel’ type. But according to the complex of indicators, milk obtained from various technologies of milking refers to the desired cheese-making class.

Abstract:
Carrot (Daucus carota subsp. sativus) seed crops in Oregon and Washington were surveyed in 2001-02 and 2002-03 for development of Xanthomonas campestris pv. carotae, causal agent of bacterial blight. For each state and season, 20 plants were sampled from each of 7 to 12 direct-seeded crops twice in the fall or winter and three times from spring to summer; and from each of 2 to 4 steckling (root-to-seed) crops three times from spring to summer. X. campestris pv. carotae was detected in 1 of 15 and 6 of 32 stock seed lots planted in the fall in Oregon and Washington, respectively, and in 2 of 6 steckling shipments planted in each state in the spring. The pathogen was detected at 102 to 108 CFU/g foliage in 1 of 22 and 10 of 14 direct-seeded crops within 2 months of planting in 2001 and 2002, respectively. The prevalence of X. campestris pv. carotae then increased through the season in most seed crops, although bacterial blight symptoms were not observed until April in Oregon and July in Washington in both seasons. In August 2002 and 2003, X. campestris pv. carotae was detected in all 10 and 13 crops surveyed in Oregon, respectively; and in 11 of 12 and 7 of 10 crops in Washington, respectively. The pathogen was typically less prevalent in steckling versus direct-seeded crops. X. campestris pv. carotae was detected in 20 of 22 and 19 of 23 harvested seed lots in Oregon and Washington, respectively, at populations ranging from 1.3 × 101 to 1.4 × 108 CFU/g seed. Airborne X. campestris pv. carotae, detected ≤1,600 m downwind of crops being threshed in Oregon in September of 2003 and 2004, may provide a source of inoculum for newly planted seed crops between overlapping biennial seasons for carrot seed production. Despite the prevalence of this pathogen in the Pacific Northwest, carrot seed lots free of X. campestris pv. carotae were detected, demonstrating the ability to produce clean seed in this region by adhering to recommended practices for management of bacterial blight.

Abstract:
Molecular assays to detect and quantify DNA from viable cells of the seedborne pathogen Xanthomonas hortorum pv. carotae in carrot seed were developed and evaluated for use on nontreated and hot-water-treated seed lots. Both a TaqMan real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay and a loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) dilution endpoint assay detected and quantified DNA from viable pathogen cells after treatment of carrot seed washes with the live-dead discriminating dye propidium monoazide (PMA). The detection limits of the assays were approximately 101 CFU for pure cultures of X. hortorum pv. carotae, and 102 to 103 CFU/g seed from naturally infested carrot seed lots. X. hortorum pv. carotae in and on carrot seed was killed by soaking the seed in hot water (52°C for 25 min), and a subsequent PMA treatment of these hot-water-treated seed washes suppressed detection of the pathogen with both the real-time PCR and LAMP assays. For 36 commercial seed lots treated with PMA but not hot water, regression of colony counts of X. hortorum pv. carotae measured by dilution plating on a semiselective agar medium versus estimates of pathogen CFU determined by the molecular assays resulted in significant (P ≤ 0.05) linear relationships (R2 = 0.68 for the real-time PCR assay and 0.79 for the LAMP assay). The molecular assays provided quantitative estimates of X. hortorum pv. carotae infestations in carrot seed lots in <24 h, which is a significant improvement over the 7 to 14 days required to obtain results from the traditional dilution-plating assay.

Abstract:
Background: The challenges of multiple antibiotic resistance by pathogenic microorganisms has necessitated the need for a continuous search for new and effective antimicrobial bioactive compounds. Objectives: In this study, the antimicrobial activity of extracts from fermented condiment from Parkia biglobosa was investigated against some pathogenic microorganisms. Materials and Methods: Gas chromatography - mass spectrometry (GC-MS) was used to identify bioactive compounds in n-hexane extract (oil). Aqueous and n-hexane extracts of locust beans were tested against clinical isolates; viz., Klebsiella spp., Aeromonas hydrophilia, Citrobacter braakii, Enterobacter aerogenes, Shigella dysenteriae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Salmonella typhi, Escherichia coli, Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), Aspergillus spp. and Candida albicans using agar well diffusion method. Results: The study revealed the phytochemicals in oil as phenols (41.8 mg/100g), flavonoids of 19.37 mg/100g, saponins (16.7 mg/100g), alkaloids (22.9 mg/100g), steroids (6.9 mg/100g), terpenoids (10.0 mg/100g) and cardiac glycosides (3.3 mg/100g). The aqueous extract contains phenols (33.7 mg/100g), flavonoids (12.3 mg/100g), alkaloids (17.6 mg/100g), saponins (5.0 mg/100g) and cardiac glycosides (1.2 mg/100g). The bioactive compounds in the n-hexane extract were ricinoleic acid, p-cymene, octadecanoic acid, n-hexadecanoic acid and others. Oil from fermented locust bean exhibited zones of inhibition ranging from 5 mm to 14 mm against the tested isolates at 10 mg/mL, while the aqueous extract displayed inhibition zones of 4 mm to 10 mm at 10.0 mg/mL. Conclusion: The chemical constituents in locally fermented condiment (locust bean) are responsible for pronounced antimicrobial properties. Hence, the condiment can be exploited for medicinal purposes. Keywords: Fermented food, condiment, n-hexane, phytochemicals and antimicrobials.

Abstract:
The problem of evaluating the effectiveness of a carousel-type grain dryer is considered. To solve this problem, we used the fuzzy-probability approach of Zadeh-Mamdani, based on expert knowledge. The substantiation of the factor space systemically describing the functioning of the grain dryer is carried out. A fuzzy probability model is constructed in the space of linguistic variables. The article presents a method for constructing a functioning model of the carousel-type grain dryer, which allows obtaining quantitative estimates of the technological process state in a four-dimensional space of linguistic variables. It is established that to ensure the technological reliability of the grain drying process in carousel-type installations, it is necessary to use an automatic control system based on operational control of the system output parameters.

Abstract:
The ATLAS experiment at CERN’s LHC stores detector and simulation data in raw and derived data formats across more than 150 Grid sites world-wide, currently in total about 200PB on disk and 250PB on tape. Data have different access characteristics due to various computational workflows, and can be accessed from different media, such as remote I/O, disk cache on hard disk drives or SSDs. Also, larger data centers provide the majority of offline storage capability via tape systems. For the HighLuminosity LHC (HL-LHC), the estimated data storage requirements are several factors bigger than the present forecast of available resources, based on a flat budget assumption. On the computing side, ATLAS Distributed Computing was very successful in the last years with high performance and high throughput computing integration and in using opportunistic computing resources for the Monte Carlo simulation. On the other hand, equivalent opportunistic storage does not exist. ATLAS started the Data Carousel project to increase the usage of less expensive storage, i.e. tapes or even commercial storage, so it is not limited to tape technologies exclusively. Data Carousel orchestrates data processing between workload management, data management, and storage services with the bulk data resident on offline storage. The processing is executed by staging and promptly processing a sliding window of inputs onto faster buffer storage, such that only a small percentage of input data are available at any one time. With this project, we aim to demonstrate that this is the natural way to dramatically reduce our storage cost. The first phase of the project was started in the fall of 2018 and was related to I/O tests of the sites archiving systems. Phase II now requires a tight integration of the workload and data management systems. Additionally, the Data Carousel studies the feasibility to run multiple computing workflows from tape. The project is progressing very well and the results presented in this document will be used before the LHC Run 3.

Abstract:
This research is aimed to find out the presence of causality by analyzing students’ critical thinking ability in applying Carousel feedback learning model. This research employed quasi experimental research. The subject of the study was the fifth grade students of elementary1 and 4 Naira. There were 39 students. The instrument of the research was essay test that used to test the cognitive aspect with the purpose to measure the result of students’ conceptual mastery in their critical thinking ability. Besides test, there were two questionnaires that used in order to get information about students’ response toward the implementation of Carousel feedback learning k,model and the second questionnaire was used to analyze students’ self-efficacy. The result of critical thinking ability with nonparametric test and the Wilcoxon test showed that there was significance 0.000 < 0.05. Therefore, Ho was rejected and H1 was accepted. This means that there were differences in students' critical thinking skills before and after the implementation of Carousel Feedback learning model. Moreover, the result of students’ self-efficacy showed that the result of paired sample test was significance 0.016 < 0.05. Thus, it was decided that Ho was rejected and H1 was accepted. It can be said that there was difference about the ability of students’ self-efficacy before and after implementing Carousel feedback model in learning.

Abstract:
We introduce a dual game to Ulam's liar game and consider the case of one half-lie. In the original Ulam's game, Paul attempts to isolate a distinguished element by disqualifying all but one ofnpossibilities withqyes-no questions, while the responder Carole is allowed to lie a fixed numberkof times. In the dual game, Paul attempts to prevent disqualification of a distinguished element by “pathological” liar Carole for as long as possible, given that a possibility associated withk+1lies is disqualified. We consider the half-lie variant in which Carole may only lie when the true answer is “no.” We prove the equivalence of the dual game to the problem of covering the discrete hypercube with certain asymmetric sets. We defineA1*(q)for the casek=1to be the minimum numbernsuch that Paul can prevent Carole from disqualifying allnelements inqrounds of questions, and prove thatA1*(q)~2q+1/q.
