Full textIn a changing and unpredictable international environment, uncontrolled events may occur in an individual’s career which results in the beginning of a “second career”. However, this restarting career is more complicated for a category of persons: the old workers. In 2009, the employment rate was 38.9% for individuals aged 55 to 64 which shows the difficulty for those people to prolong their working life. The literature proposes two approaches for this subject: objective and subjective, and introduces the “career lifecycle” concept. Our research is to explain the objective and subjective career cycle structures by identifying events uncontrolled by individuals, called “critical career incident”. The study based on the Worldwide Express case, showed the existence of mono-cycle and multi-cycle objective and subjective career lifecycle. It also highlighted critical incidents of individual and organizational careers which could be “positive” or “negative” for the individual’s career. This research has identified common characteristics that are appropriate to the objective and subjective career cycle structures. Finally, the empirical study showed that it was impossible for the old workers aged 50 or more to restart a new objective or subjective career cycle. Indeed, from this age the critical incidents in their career always influence negatively the professional life on these persons. This study proposes to the old workers and the organizations to understand the critical incidents of their career in order to start with a new “step” for the latter. For this reason it is suggested to “forget” the notion of age but rather to the age of the carreer, i.e. experiences as a decisive criterion in career management

Full textCareer success is traditionally defined as objective or subjective. In a complex and changing economy, it is more and more important to understand the determinants of objective career success. Human capital and cultural capital are regular predictors to objective career success. But organizations have changed. Careers unfold in ambiguous, but ongoing and valued contexts. In such contexts, individuals must make sense by themselves concerning decisions to be made, opportunities to be constructed or occurrences that may be undergone. For this purpose they use a repertoire of cognitive schemas that constitute a career frame of reference. Hypotheses A suggest that the career frame of reference is a moderator of the influence of human capital and of cultural capital on objective career success. Reciprocally, careers and organizations shape the career frame of reference. Thus, hypotheses B claim that the type of careers has an influence on the career frame of reference.Three methods were used: qualitative pre-survey, scales development and cognitive mapping (602 individuals). Cognitive maps were constructed thanks to a new technique that helps avoiding the biases. Factorial analyses show that the career frame of reference is a four-dimensional construct. The four dimensions describe the “career worlds”, i.e. the shareholders and the associated beliefs involved in one’s career. Data collected show the radicalization of objective career success differences among French executives. Hypotheses A are partially supported by the data. Objective career success is predicted by human capital, but it is moderated by the career frame of reference. Competencies are not enough to reach objective career success. Career frame of reference has a pragmatic and symbolic efficiency: successful careerists’ frame of reference validate norms and ideologies about the efficiency of free job markets and fair competition among employees for achievement. Hypotheses B are supported by the data. The type of careers leads to specific career frame of reference
Monge, Julia. "Les consommations de substances illicites entre parents et enfants : carrière d'usage, carrière parentale et tension normative." Thesis, Paris, EHESS, 2020. http://www.theses.fr/2020EHES0102.
Full textWhen parents use drugs, it is tempting to wonder what impact this practice will have on their children. Our work asks the opposite question. We look at how parents who use illicit substances are affected by their children's socialization and how this affects the way they use drugs. It is in the prism of this issue that we approach the specific case of shared consumption. By combining participant observation, semi-directive interviews and document analysis, the survey aims to observe the interactions between families in which at least one minor child has used an illicit substance with his or her parents and the actors responsible for prescribing, disseminating and guaranteeing standards of parenting. The investigation was carried out in two sections corresponding to these two populations. It concluded that parenthood is a career dependent on the socialization of the child. As a framework of constraint, it contradicts the framework of consumption. In this sense, the child constitutes the cursor of a normative tension between the parental career and the consumer career. Including or excluding the child from drug-related practices is, for the parent, part of a strategy to develop both careers

Full textThe second career is an analysis of the dynamics of ages and social times for the entire lifespan, as well as their changes. Set in the framework of the sociology of age and the life cycle, this work is at the crossroads of the sociology of work, the sociology of leisure, and the sociology of the family. The surveys and research deal with the situation and the transformations taking place in the second half of life in industrial societies today : employment and unemployment, early retirement and retirement, family life and leisure, health and life expectancy, personality changes. This thesis demonstrates that a second career and a new age are emerging : a period of several decades which is no longer that of young adulthood but not yet the of old age. Its characteristics are analyzed as well as its implications for the restructuring of different ages and the life cycle as a function of societal (economic, social, cultural) changes. In contrast to models of the post-world war two period of economic growth, a variety of scenarios for the future are discussed
Manigand, Christine. "La carrière politique d'Henry de Jouvenel." Paris, Institut d'études politiques, 1996. http://www.theses.fr/1996IEPP0030.
Full textA political biography, that of Henry de Jouvenel (1876-1935), allows an understanding of a political destiny of a person who played the role of a turning point between the notable citizens of the 19th century and the political men of the 20th. Furthermore Henry de Jouvenel's itinerary situates him in a genuine dynastic line : heir to a large conservative family, Henry de Jouvenel joined the ranks of radicalism, a commitment which offers many rewarding paths of research for the historian. For the researcher, the difficulty lies in the exuberant activity of this brilliant dilettante. Nevertheless, several research approaches can be considered : - the influence wielded by an editor in chief of "le matin", a newspaper which served as an interface for the world of culture and art. - his prominet role in the radicalist movement. - the impact of a French delegate at the league of nations between 1922 and 1926 : one of the most-listened to men in Geneva, a man who was also an enthusiastic propagandist for the ideals of collective security and disarmement, a man who was a representative figure of a multinational milieu then present in Geneva. - the study of a senator from the Correze region and his difficult settlement in local politics. - the innovative action led from 1925-1926 as a high commissioner in Lebanon and Syria and his important role when he was an ambassador in Rome in 1933 at the time of the signature of the "Pact of Four" which led to the French Italian reconciliation which he considered crucial

Full textThe present labour market destabilize the labour society and, with the disappearance of the long-terme employment relationship, employees are forced to develop career strategies to protect themselves from new social risks. However, companies in the food industry are facing difficulties in recruiting and retaining employees needed for their development. Therefore, it appears that the organizational career continues to serve the strategic interests of the companies. In this research, we wonder about the future of careers: “How is the organizational career evolving in the food industries?”. Our objectives are, on one side, to respond to a concrete career management problem in the food industry in France and, on the other side, to extend the current knowledge of vocational guidance that seem insufficient in the light of phenoma observed in the labor market. In addition, we are interested in all socioprofesionnal categories, and in particular the working-class population, which seems largely forgotten in career management research. In order to ancitipate these evolutions, we develop an appropriate methodology by combining the theory of career anchors with the jobs prospective method. The new method, which we call “career foresight”, is based on the analysis of one hundred and forty empirical studies, fifty-eight semi-structured interviews, one hundred and eighty-three self-administered questionnaires, a focus group and a webinar. Our main results concern the co-construction of five prospective career scenarios, the identification of thirty-four possible career orientations and the operationalization of the self-prospective concept

Full textThe tunisian civil service model, tracing back to the deep history of pre-independence tunisia is based on a conception where the notion of career occupies a central place. Having its roots in the administrative tradition, the civil service conception directly derives from the system of career hammered out, in the long run by the french administrative law. The independant tunisia preferring a secure conituity to incertitude, has deemed it necessairy to stick to hisphilosophy, which is very common in many countries, while including suitable modifications dicted by needs an imperatives of local context. We can fear that such an approach could lead to a diversion from the initial system towards a new type of civil service far away from the career system. In fact, the analyses we have carried out gave unequavocally proved the continuity of this system and the absence of any attempt to replace it. However, if the tunisian civil service remains mainly based on the notion of career the latter undergoes, under the pressure of needs, alterations which without really diverting from the basic conception, reveal the necessity to seek solutions which are not always genuine and corresponding to the traditional principles of civil service career

Full textPaul readier built his political career from Aubin-Decazeville coald field (Aveyron), a place where socialism took root in a county which is otherwise conservative. At first just a mere left-wing man fighting for his ideas from 1910, he founds himself on three organic structures : his political party, trade unionism and cooperative compagnies; then he is elected as a mayor of Decazeville in 1919; in 1928, he becomes a member of parliament in Villefranche de Rouergue constituancy after gaining the support of "radical party"; later he is elected as a "conseiller general" (a member of the local auth orities). Thus, he has created a territory which votes for him whenever its people go to the polls till 1940; he is nominated as a minister (energy and labour) severals times from 1936 to 1938. Deprived of his duties by "the Vichy government" which he opposed on July 10th 1940, he still gets into contact with his political friends, all along the war, at the end of the war, as he didn't commit himself, this important man becomes a minister in charge of food supplies, then the prime minister of republic (1947), later the minister of the national defence (1948-1949), finally the chancellor of the exchequer (1956-1957). But this national success makes him lose his stability in his territory, communist voters whose number has increased since the war give him up for ever because of the options adopted by his governments. His political career stops in 1958 and 1959 with the change of the political regime

Full textCareers that were once conceptualized as life-long linear paths with frequent upward mobility within one organization have increasingly given way to new models of how careers unfold. The organizational rhetoric since the late 1980's has progressively changed from offering long-term and life-long employment, to clear messages concerning the imperative of individual career responsibility for one's progression and development (Bolton & Gold, 1994; Baruch, 2006). In addition, generational differences and technological advances have greatly changed the face of the work place, easily allowing the crossing of borders and the necessity to deal with cultural differences (Crepeau et. al., 2006). To understand how contemporary workers navigate in their careers, we mobilized two main career concepts. First, we used the theory of career anchors developed Schein (1978), which gave rise to wider understanding of both individual differences and organizational culture from an interdisciplinary perspective. Schein postulated that individuals develop a career “self-concept” which becomes an “anchor”, stabilizing and directing individual career decision-making. A re-conceptualization of his work by Feldman & Bolino (1996) postulated that career anchors could be associated with each other, proposing a model of compatibility or opposition in the relationships between the eight career anchors of Schein. Second, we used the boundaryless career concept, which suggested a change from the traditional career ideal of one single employer for the entirety of one's professional life (Arthur & Rousseau, 1996; Sullivan & Arthur, 2006)

introduksjon til avsnittet om Eugène Carrière i boken The Symbolist Generation kan vise på: ”A fairly neglected artist today, owing perhaps to the repetitive and somewhat old-fashioned sentimentality of his favorite subjects”.

Full textWhen involved in a relocation decision, dual career couples may adopt different patterns of mobility. The choice is based on a maximisation of resources perspective, but it implies a loss of resources. External resources, such as social support, may intervene either to counter the losses or to induce geographic mobility. The aim of this research is to discover psychological mechanism involved in the mobile way of living. The study consisted in collecting life strories. Data analysis was performed using Tropes 6. 2. Our results show an influence of motivational mechanism on geographic mobility management. Results also show a strong professional commitment at the expense of organizational commitment. Moreover, whatever the quality of adjustment, role performance is not affected, in the contrary to extra-role performance. With regard to the couple and the family, workf-family conflict is exacerbated by mobility and in some cases, marital satisfaction is undermined. These trends are more salient among women the among men. Finally, we found sex differences in mobility patterns. The research showed the existence of a link between decision and adjustment during mobility. It enriched career literature by addressing some specific phenomena of starting employees' mobility. The results call to further research avenues. In particular, we suggest studying the employees' interest in family-friendly policies in a comparative manner as welle as their probable impact on organizational justice perceptions. We also studying the effects of mobility on the logevity of the relationship and taking into account subjective dimensions of mobility

Full textWill managers and employees have to work until age 70? A similar scenario seems to be emerging with increasing the number of years needed to qualify for a full pension. In this context, managers in France aged 45 and older are encouraged to anticipate the second half of their career, in the form of an interview with their employer, and according to the National Inter-professional Agreement of October 13, 2005, updated by Law No. 2014-288 of March 5, 2014. The field study is based on 26 interviews conducted in 2013 in media agencies which are members of the trade union of UDECAM. This sector proves to be particularly sensitive to the development of digital technology, which generates a change in expectations towards managers’ role. The results were analyzed by means of two complementary methods. A lexical analysis, carried out with Alceste© software, highlights a social representation of a deterministic and traditional career model. Simultaneously, an analysis of cognitive maps with Decision Explorer© software shows that nearly three quarters of them feel cognitive dissonance when it comes to anticipating their careers. These results suggest the presence of a double bind between a demand for anticipating one’s career and the constrained nature of management by objectives. This diagnosis encourages the adoption of a strategic human resources management and a career interview both adapted to the complexity of the situation. They also raise questions about the projected societal model since the risk of poverty or “forced” work are amplified by the cognitive dissonance situation observed in the survey

Wether career is apprehended in an organizational context or outside organization, it is diverse, influenced by the contexts and professional transitions. This thesis uses a qualitative approach of career paths of executives who experienced many professional career transitions. Men and women interviewed were all involved in an accompanying program offered by a non-profit organization during their last professional transition. We met them after this transition: they all found jobs. Our research sought to understand their career paths, the way they rebounded from career setbacks, their successive professional career transitions. This research has several advantages for both the researcher and the manager. First, we identified the main determinants of professional transitions in the trajectories. Then, by using a questionnaire on career anchors we defined groups of executives based on their dominant anchors

Full textThe objective of this thesis is to study the place of a sports career alongside the obligations of life from a biographical perspective. The records of the French Swimming Federation has allowed us firstly to show the influence of age and gender on the abandonment of sport during the first years of participation. Sport has to become a long-terni habit before it becomes a career. Secondly, a biographical study of competitive swimmers has allowed us to demonstrate that the place held by sport evolves through a lifetime. Educational problems have little impact on the sports career. However, the sports career is destabilised by changes in life during higher education. The position which sport takes alter this step is independent of the involvement of the swimmer. It is rather the manner in which the swimmer adapts to his new situation as a student in conjonction with the chosen field that determines the subsequent developments in his student life, sports life and professional life

Full textCostas Dimitriadis (1879-1943), who lived and worked in Athens and Paris, was the most famous Greek artist of the first half of the twentieth century. Through his directorship of the School of Fine Arts in Athens (1930-1943), he defined the role and viewpoint of public art institutions in Greece to this day. This dissertation traces Dimitriadis’ life and work. It begins with his youth in Eastern Roumelia followed by an examination of his studies in Athens both as an apprentice and in the School of Fine Arts. The dissertation continues with an exploration of his early career in Europe and the role Paris intellectual circles played in his artistic development, mainly the prominent members Jean Moréas and Jean Pischari, and his patron, the arms dealer Basil Zaharoff. In addition, this dissertation establishes the process by which Dimitriadis established ateliers in Paris and London, as well as a leading role in the art life of these cities as well as in Greece. His political viewpoints are also examined; for example, his support to the Venizelist Governments (1922-1932), which promoted modernization of the Greek state through the Europeanization of art institutions and his role in cultural diplomacy are documented and discussed. Circumstances that limited Dimitriadis’ leading role are also examined, including policies of the dictator Ioannis Metaxas and the Occupation of Greece during World War II. Although chronological in structure, the dissertation also explores thematic issues. It includes moreover a Catalogue Raisonné of the artist

Full textThis biography analyses the links between the professional progress of a high ranking civil servant and the degree of his political involvement. What was the part played by partisan involvement in the various modes of promotion and in professional practice? To answer that question, the great length of time during which Noël remained in office (1914-1966), and the variety of posts he occupied (junior official at the Conseil d'Etat, adviser to members of government, general delegate to the high commissioner in Rhineland, prefect, head of the Sûreté nationale, ambassador, general delegate in the occupied territories, member of parliament, president of the Conseil constitutionnel) provided a particularly varied investigation ground. Our analysis reveals that he tried to avoid any kind of ideological allegiance, while establishing close connections with politicians. Before WWII, such a balance, maintained in the name of state neutrality, enabled 3rd Rep. High ranking civil servants to secure a certain degree of autonomy. Conversely, during the 5th Rep. , while noel presided the highest jurisdiction of the country, which was supposedly independant, his close relationship with de Gaulle no longer allowed him to avoid the pressure of the now stable executive power. Besides, the study of the ambassador's career has enabled us to clarify the motivations of his ambitions. It has also permitted to enlarge the scope of historical knowledge in several fields, some of which had hardly been explored before : the final stages of the separation between the Church and the State, the end of French occupation in Rhineland, the interplay of relations between France, Poland and Czechoslovakia before WWII, the exile of the Polish government in France, the birth of the general delegation of Vichy in the north zone, the workings of the R. P. F. , and the beginnings of the Conseil constitutionnel (from 1959 to 1965), an institution which had been known so far chiefly through its jurisprudence

Full textWomen artists are underrepresented at the highest levels of artistic, symbolic and economic reputation, although they make up the majority of art school students as well as artists. Drawing on sociology of work, gender, art and education, this PhD dissertation explains this paradox. It analyses the making of gender inequalities within a very prestigious French art school and how these affect the entrance into an artistic career, survival in the profession and access to reputation of its graduates in contemporary art. The joint analysis of quantitative data from an artist ranking (ArtFacts), biographical interviews and ethnographic observations sheds light on the gendered construction of artistic careers. Whether it is during the recruitment by the art school, the selection in a studio, student jobs, the invitation to exhibit one’s work or being represented by a gallery, women’s gradual disappearance plays out in co-optation processes. At different stages in the career, the stigma of motherhood restricts their employability and their heterosexualization limits opportunities for self-promotion. Access to the conventions of the contemporary art world and integration into professional networks, particularly in the art market, are sexually differentiated. Nevertheless, different social, economic, educational or institutional resources allow some women to bypass the constraints weighing on women’s artistic careers, and to gain reputation

Full textThis thesis is about the life and work of Giovanni Girolamo Albani (1509-1591). It begins with the study of the rise of the Albani family in Bergamo. It is followed by an analysis of the three books published by Albani on the eve of the Council of Trent. The De Cardinalatu (1541) and the De potestate papae et concilii (1544) defend the papal authority from the demands of the cardinals and the councils. Albani argued that the Church should react against the Reform by concentrating the power in Peter's seat. Liber pro oppugnata Romani Pontifici dignitate (1547) takes the Pope’s side in the controversy that arose after the attacks of Luther and Jean Calvin. Then, the thesis examines the reasons for Albani’s cardinal promotion in 1570. It focuses especially on the aid he gave to the Inquisition in 1536, and in 1551 during the investigation against Bergamo’s bishop led by Michele Ghislieri (who later became pope Pius V). The thesis tries to retrace Albani’s curial activity from 1569 to 1591, his role in the College of Cardinals, his family’s networks and his relations with Spain. Special attention is given to his neutral position during the conclaves and the strategies used by competing factions of cardinals. In particular, a chapter focuses on a group of letters in which some familiares of the cardinal talk about prophecies that foresee the imminent death of the pope, nurturing among Albani’s entourage the hope to see their master elected

Full textUnlike the classical theories of human capital, signaling and screening, which also provide a relevant insight on french management schools (known as "grandes ecoles"), the originality of the present study is to try to analyze the effects of the corresponding degree on the graduate himself. Having established a general paradigm of careers based on the strategic analysis theory, we focused on the actor's career rationale, covering a number of career attitudes (preferences, perception of possibilities, believes). We assumed these attitudes were related to the nature of the diploma, due to both the specific entry selection to the "grandes ecoles" and the peculiar "socialization" likely to develop during the studies. We conducted 24 biographical interviews of graduates from hec (the leading "grande ecole") or university dess (postgraduate diploma). A structural content analysis pointed out that hec graduates displayed homogenous attitudes, which differed significantly from those characterizing university graduates. A set of hypothesis were suggested, and conceptualized, and then tested through a specific ad hoc questionnaire, filled in by 300 young managers. Variance analysis and multiple regressions were used to assess the hypothesis. The results suggested different influences of the diploma for men and women. For men, some preferences (ex : career perspectives), some instrumental believes (ex : political behavior, starting in a reputable multinational company), and the perception of possibilities are significantly related to the degree. The relations between the diploma and some attitudes were further explained with intermediary variables (values, self-esteem, and integration in alumni networks)

Full textThe numerous turnover models found in the Human Resource Management literature illustrate the importance of employee loyalty to the company. The objective of this thesis is to analyze the “career stage” effect on employee loyalty-building factors and on employee loyalty to the company. This work also gives the opportunity to study the determinants of the career stage and to debate the impact of belonging to generation Y on the intention to leave the company. To answer our research question, surveys have been administered in January 2011 to French employees from a Franco-American company and from two French companies. The sample is composed of 478 respondents: 206 salespeople, 150 technicians, 76 support staff and 46 undefined jobs. The studied population has a low and medium qualification level CAP/BEP/BAC to BAC+2/BTS).The results confirm (1) the central role of extrinsic job satisfaction and affective organizational commitment in a turnover model and (2) the influence of an individual’s career stage on both his loyalty-building factors and his intention to leave the company. The employee profile also has an impact on loyalty-building factors and on employee intention to leave. Moreover, age and the different kinds of tenure have little influence on the score to a career stage.Belonging to the generation Y, rather than to the generation X or to the Baby Boomers generation, does not influence employee intention to leave as far as generational belonging is measured by age groups

Full textContrary to existing analyses, which see the clan factor as central for the structuration of kazakhstani political elites, this dissertation studies individual career-strategies of elected representatives and civil servants since the independence. Three methods have been adopted :- Statistical analysis of a sample of 690 biographies : it reveals important differences between elites’ profiles and the Kazakhstani society as a whole. This analysis provides the basis for a typology of career trajectories. Appointments since 1992 reveal that younger generations increasingly take-over former Party executives ;- Study of career stories : the persons interviewed expressed their dependency towards cooptation mechanism as well as a deep distrust of political, economic and social transformations of their environment ;- Analysis of specific biographies, which allows to question the vision of a clan-divided political elite, be it along the lines of traditional or economic clans. A network-based approach is more relevant. At the individual level, various acquaintances (e. G. Matrimonial links, friendship, professional relations) allow the individual to enter those networks. These links of acquaintance are a central factor in the articulation of the economic and political spheres, as well as a mediation between state and society. This mode of mediation can be analysed through the prism of political clientelism, but it also expresses deeps changes of the public/private dichotomy, as well as of the bases of trust in the Kazakhstani society

Full textNicolas rapin (1539-1608) was successively a barrister at fontenay-le-comte, his native town (1562), a vice-seneschal in lower poitou (1576), a short-gowned lieutenant in paris (1585), and a provost general of the constablery of france (1588). His career may be explained by his military activity (firstly from 1568 to 1570), by his eagerness to dispense justice, by the protections and friendships which were bestowed upon him (the tiraqueaus and the brissons, his compatriots, scevole de sainte-marthe, then the president de harlay and j. -a. De thou), and by the skill which he displayed in his use of literary modes (translations of ariosto in 1572, "rural" poetry from 1575 to 1583). An "engaged" writer, representing the politiques' opinions, he undertook to serve henry 3 (by translating the seven penitential psalms), then henry 4 (by contributing to the satyre menippee). Rapin's works and the remains of his library reveal firstly a humanist, interested in history, medicine, grammar and literature. Apart from his translations, his personal works are manifold : occasional verse (numerous epitaphs), political pamphlets, moral satire, love peotry (from the straightforward sexuality of la douche to the platonism of l'amour philosophe), rustic verse : his plaisirs du gentilhomme champestre were very popular. His greatest ambition was to ensure the recognition of "poesie mesuree a l'antique", by conciliating baif's system with traditional versification. But it is in the translations of his dear

Full textThe thesis deals with the sociology of the beginning of career of the teachers in secondary school, from the case of the Physical and Sports Education, between the passing of the examination and the third year of actual professional appointment. The point here is to categorize the variables which report difficulties and those which on the contrary facilitate the first moments in the job. For that purpose, we investigated for four years with a structured sample consisting of fifty-five teachers appointed all over the academies (i.e. regional educational authorities) of Lille and Versailles. Signings of questionnaires, interviews (sixty- five), observations of the work “in progress” (ten times a week) were carried out. Five teachers were particularly « studied », even, establishing then a kind of “longitudinal follow-up”. Finally this work brings to light the tensions between the learning of the job by the official training authorities and that on the ground, between the necessities of respecting a professionnal culture and adapting to the actual teaching situations. But these proceed of diverse variables which express themselves in ambiguous manners. We suggest systematizing this complexity by showing how the teacher submits to the job in order to succeed in adapting. Will the current “masterization” of the teaching training programmes improve it ? And thus, the transmission of the knowledge and skills in Physical Education as well as the alterations which it implies at the level of the pupils ? We may wonder why the thesis does not give a definite answer to these questions. Now it is up to the reader to appreciate if it is either because of the heterogeneousness of the configurations of career debuts, thanks to the variety of the beginners’ profiles or the chosen teaching subject

Full textLike other Western European countries, the Netherlands has witnessed an increase in the average age of its working population. Since a few years these changes have incited the Dutch government to review the taxation of private early retirement schemes and to push back the legal retirement age. At the same time companies are asking employees to be ever more employable, so that they can compensate for the loss of lifelong employment security. Although there are many stereotypes about the motivation and capabilities of older workers, these employees will now have to work longer and are more likely to change jobs and to continue developing themselves. The goal of this study was to examine how the contents of the employer-employee relationship, conceptualized through the psychological contract, influence two employability-related career intentions for a sample of employees aged 45-55 and active on the Dutch labor market. A second goal was to study how stereotypes influence this relationship. Our research model was realized through a quantitative study in which almost 1100 employees participated. We found that deficient/excess inducements and the level of fulfilment of specific psychological contract dimensions had different relationships with the career intentions of participants and that the seeing oneself as an older worker had a moderating effect on some of these relationships

Full textWidow of Berthold Rembolt first, then of Claude Chevallon, Charlotte Guillard became in 1537 heiress of France's oldest typography workshop. With Charlotte Guillard at its head, the Soleil d'Or managed to monopolise two specific markets, the law texts and the works of the Church Fathers. The purpose of our thesis is to investigate the practical conditions which made these publications possible. It will highlight the material arrangements of the production and selling of those books, and focus at the people who stayed at Charlotte Guillard's side. This will allow us to demonstrate the importance of her relatives at every step of the process, and to show the coexistence of various networks of collaborators who manage to work on a common basis despite, at times, opposite intellectual and ideological motivations. Calling on manuscript archives, physical bibliography, and an analysis of the prefaces and liminary epistles, this monograph allows us to write a holistic history of the intellectual endeavour, taking into account all the ideological, social and economic conditions entering in its construction

Full textOver the past decades, the concept of career has moved from a traditional conceptualization characterized by an upward mobility within a single organization to new contemporary designs: boundaryless careers, protean careers, post-corporate careers, etc. The research distinguish two dimensions. First, the objective career represents the result of the positions occupied by an individual throughout its work life. Second, the subjective career is the interpretation made by the individual of its work histories. This distinction is important because two persons may interpret a same objective career differently. In this sense, the ‘perceived career success’ constitutes an important dimension of subjective career. It refers to the perception, by an individual, of the fact that his/her career can be regarded as a success, as normal or as a failure, either in the absolute or relative to the initial goals that he/she had set. The purpose of this study is to measure the managers’ perceived career and to identify its determinants. A second goal is to study how career anchors and occupational self-efficacy predict objective success and career satisfaction. The last purpose is to study the influence of career success on life satisfaction and turnover intention. Using a sample of 362 French managers, we found that career satisfaction predicts more perceived career success, life satisfaction and turnover intention than doe’s objective career success. Our results also show that occupational self-efficacy influences positively career satisfaction and that only managerial and technical anchors have an impact on objective career success

Full textMarmontel, a well-known writer in his time – but almost unremembered nowadays – created a diverse and profuse work which unity is being recovered here. This versatile writer’s work is taken into account through a literary and historical angle. His intellectual journey is being connected to the portrait of the honest man, worldly author, and leverage agent, which were built up in his Memoirs. Furthermore, his place within the Republic of Letters is being reappraised, from his theoretical (poetic, and aesthetic) postulates to their practical implementation (rewriting, translating, interactions with Voltaire and with the “encyclopedia school”, as well as with his opponents). Finally, Marmontel’s relationships with his audience are being examined. The study of his poetry and his Moral Tales allows us to establish to what extent his writings were shaped by his design to succeed and adapted to the audience he targeted. This work aims to change the perspective generally adopted in the studies devoted to Marmontel, by showing that not only was he a reflection of his times, but he also managed, in return, to influence his age, in his own way
