Abstract:
Carbon dioxide enhanced oil recovery (CO2EOR) is a proven and available technology used to produce incremental oil from depleted fields. Although this technology has been used successfully onshore in North America and Europe, projects have maximised oil recovery and not CO2 storage. While the majority of onshore CO2EOR projects to date have used CO2 from natural sources, CO2EOR is now more and more being considered as a storage option for captured anthropogenic CO2. In the North Sea the lack of low cost CO2, in large volumes, has meant that no EOR projects have utilised CO2 as an injection flu

The success of the CO2- EOR in the United States has raised the question of whether this success could be replicated in the UKCS. Double-difference seismic tomography is performed on a carbon sequestration operation in the Aneth Oil Field in southeast Utah as part of a Department of Energy initiative on monitoring, verification, and accounting of sequestered CO2. A total of 1,211 seismic events were recorded from a borehole array of 22 geophones. Aneth Unit data were divided into four time periods for time-lapse analysis. A low velocity zone spanning the lateral extents of the observable region, likely representing a CO2 plume, is detected when considering voxels containing the highest ray path coverage. A series of

Abstract:
Hydrogen as a clean energy carrier has drawn great attention. Production of H2 from sustainable bio-oil is considered an alternative for conventional fossil fuel based energy system, since the overall process of bio-oil converting to H2 ideally is carbon-neutral and hence environmental friendly. This study focuses on developing an adequate catalyst for bio-oil steam reforming to produce H2. Ruthenium and/ or nickel based catalysts supported on alumina, ceria-alumina or ceria-silica were synthesized by sol-gel method or incipient wetness impregnation and characterized using BET Surface area an

Abstract:
Geochemical trapping, comprising mineral and solubility trapping, is the most secure and permanent trapping mechanism for CO2 geological storage. CO2 dissolution in brine is also an important mechanism for CO2 enhanced oil recovery, as it improves sweep efficiency and increases oil displacement. This study aims to address current knowledge gaps that relate to how brine composition affects CO2 geochemical trapping mechanisms and the effect that CO2-saturated brine has on the permeability and porosity of host rock. Several different geochemical models that can be used to predict geochemical trap
