The main purpose of this study is to identify a standard structural pattern of introduction sections of two different disciplines, i.e. research articles from English Language Teaching (ELT) and Civil Engineering (CE) corpora. The present study explores the structures of Civil Engineering research articles’ (RA) introductions based on Swales’ 1990 CARS (Create a Research Space) model. AbstractIn recent decades, cellular automata (CA) have become popular for evaluating and forecasting urban transformation over time and space, especially in rapidly developing countries. These models enhance the understanding of urban dynamics and the complex interplay between land-use changes and urban sustainability. CA help governments, planners, and stakeholders to predict and evaluate the potential outcomes of future policy alternatives before making decisions. Thus, CA are frequently used to create what-if scenarios for policy implementation. This chapter includes an overview of the basic and state-of-the-art concepts and methods in urban CA modeling, as well as the latest studies, applications, and current problems. First, we conduct a systematic review of urban CA modeling to provide critical comments on previous and recent studies. The basic techniques, including the components of a basic CA model, modifications for urban modeling, and collection of data sources, are then provided, along with a classification of different types of urban CA. Finally, the applications of CA in urban studies and planning practices are presented, as well as discussions of further research. We also point out the major problems in recent studies and applications for further research.

Starting in the early 1970s, many documentaries began addressing the shifting cultural climate surrounding the issue of abortion in the United States. While some consideration has been given to how abortion has been represented on television and in motion pictures, scant attention has been paid to how the documentary genre has forged the public space for this controversial issue. This chapter briefly maps and assesses how feminists have documented and utilized the documentary genre to recover women’s history and reclaim public space for reproductive justice and the failures to accomplish these aims as access to reproductive care continues to erode. The chapter tracks how women, engaged in feminist struggle, create documentary commons specific to the collision between lived experience and social expectations. The chapter focuses particularly on a moment in 2005 when Third Wave feminist and activist filmmakers attempted to engage abortion politics through the documentary confessional mode. Tracking the move from public confession to representations of an escalating and violent antichoice movement brings the struggle into sharper focus. Analysis of these documentaries and their parallel activist interventions includes interviews with three directors, archival material, and ethnographic research.

In this chapter it is argued that no matter how much Copenhagen wishes to be seen as a cyclist-friendly city, putting limits on car traffic is still politically unfeasible. Cyclists in Copenhagen seldom adopt the attitude or politics of resistance that characterises cycling cultures in many other cities. The few associations working with the rights of cyclists uses a polite and collaborative approach in keeping with the Danish equality mentality. Based on empirical research with cyclists in Copenhagen it is visible that they hold a clear sense that they do have the right to city space. They would like this right to be expanded and more deeply embedded in praxis, but they also adopted the discourse that Copenhagen is the best cycling city. At the same time, there is a sense of an asymmetrically-structured antagonisms arising between cyclists and cars on an everyday basis in Copenhagen’s overly congested transportation environment. In this chapter, these dilemmas are discussed based on qualitative research with cyclists, planners and NGO’s in Copenhagen. Theoretically, the research is based in mobilities research. The chapter discusses the opportunities to create storytelling where the dominance of the car is questioned to make more space for cyclists.

Word learning is a complex phenomenon because it is tied to many different behaviors that are linked to multiple perceptual and cognitive systems. Further, recent research suggests that the course of word learning builds from effects at the level of individual referent selection or noun generalization decisions that accumulate on a moment-to-moment timescale and structure subsequent word learning behaviors. Thus, what is needed for any unified theory of word learning is 1) an account of how individual decisions are made across different contexts, including the details of how objects are encoded, represented, and selected in the course of a word learning behavior; and 2) a mechanism that builds on these individual, contextually specific decisions. Here, the authors present a Dynamic Neural Field (DNF) Model that captures processes at both the second-to-second and developmental timescales and provides a process-based account of how individual behaviors accumulate to create development. Simulations illustrate how the model captures multiple word learning behaviors such as comprehension, production, novel noun generalization (in yes/no or forced choice tasks), referent selection, and learning of hierarchical nominal categories. They also discuss how the model ties developments in these tasks to developments in object perception, working memory, and the representation and tracking of objects in space. Finally, the authors review empirical work testing novel predictions of the model regarding the roles of competition and selection in forced-choice and yes/no generalization tasks and the role of space in early name-object binding.

The conventional design approach of alloys initiates with one principal element and continues by adding several alloying elements to obtain desired properties. In this method, the intrinsic properties of the designed alloy are governed by the principal element. For example, in steel alloy, iron is the principal element, Aluminium in aluminium alloy, and so on. Compared to the conventional alloy, high entropy alloys do not have any dominating elements; all the elements present in these alloys either have an equal or near-equal ratio of elements. As reported in the literature, these alloys exhibit interesting material properties such as high strength, high hardness, improved elevated temperature strength, and magnetic properties. These characteristics make HEAs a suitable option for high-performance applications in the aero engine, aerospace structures, and machine tools. High entropy alloy has multiple principal elements as shown in schematic diagram 1; it leads to much higher possible compositions than conventional alloys. The huge compositional space provides an opportunity to improve desired mechanical properties. If it is explored through “trial and error,” it will be challenging and cumbersome. Therefore, search schemes that can competently and promptly recognize particular alloys with desired properties are essential. Artificial Intelligence is a useful tool to model, discover, and optimize new alloys that enable predicting individual material properties as a function of composition. While the application of Artificial Intelligence is quite popular in many aspects of society, its usage in material informatics is still in the nascent stage. The algorithm used in artificial intelligence is trained to pick up predictive rules from data and create a material model quicker than a computational model and can even generate the model for which no physical model exists. Artificial Intelligence (AI) allows predicting a set of experiments to be conducted to detect new alloy having desired properties. Thus, AI can be used as a valuable tool to optimize the development of new alloys.

An abundance of data now supports the existence—long doubted—of markets in the Maya area in the Classic period (C.E. 250–900) and their economic importance. Why, however, did it take so long for Maya markets to be recognized? And how are they best conceptualized? After briefly reviewing the assumptions that hindered archaeological research on markets, especially among the Maya, this article uses ethnohistorical and ethnographic information to suggest an agent-centered model for how Maya markets worked. The intent is not to create a single, overarching template, because Maya economy varied over time and space, but rather to infuse more of a Maya perspective into current views and inspire others to continue doing so in the future.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to the analysis of means of formation of information and communication systems taking into account inclusive design. The constant development of innovative project developments in this direction indicates a change in conceptual approaches to their design and the urgency of changing the paradigm of inclusive education, which takes into account accessibility and safety for all students without exception. The system approach allowed to establish connections between the ergonomic component of the formation of the design of information and communication systems, their functionality and aesthetic expressiveness. The method of abstraction helped separate from certain properties and relations of the object and at the same time focus on those properties that are the direct object of scientific research; the method of generalization contributed to the logical completion of abstraction; the method of classification allowed to determine the specific characteristics in solving the problems of the best examples of project activities with the possibility of their theoretical justification. The social significance and relevance of the chosen research topic lies in the analysis and identification of fundamentally new design solutions for the educational space of secondary schools, which have been implemented in foreign countries. Characteristic features of their solution are taking into account the principles of universal (inclusive) design based on the use of technological innovations, availability of spatial planning, design and artistic solutions, which significantly improve the implementation of information and communication systems. Functional comfort, in this case, is considered as a generalized criterion for optimizing the system "human-object or process-environment". In addition, the inclusive approach takes into account the comfortable and aesthetic conditions of students' adaptation to the new modern standards of education and testifies to its practical significance. It is a special synthesis of ergonomics and design in the educational environment, and also allows you to create new "scenarios" of educational activities of modern students. Analysis of aspects of the developed design model of an inclusive approach in solving information and communication systems will help initiate its implementation in the educational space of secondary schools of Ukraine.

Abstract:
Israel Ruiz, Executive Vice President and Treasurer of MIT, starts this dialogue by outlining the model and mechanisms used by MIT, as an institution, to maintain its leadership in disruptive innovation through an economically sustainable process. He goes on to explain the MIT model for the replacement of professors, a dynamic process, which is combined with encouraging the maximum exchange of innovation between bodies and research centers from inside MIT and external ones, keeping the focus on a key idea for the institution: the flexibility of space and ideas aimed at connecting people. Later, he relates how they deal with the continuous influx of new talent on a large scale, while maintaining the peer-to-peer philosophy. He then talks about the way in which MIT assumes the critical opinion of external sources, which assess how the institution is operating, and also discusses how creative freedom is upheld as a nexus in the long term by ensuring that MIT members get time to create; this comprises part of their economic plan. Finally, he outlines how educational and learning practices are renewed by combining face-to-face teaching with their global online project.
