Abstract:
Model validation needs effective and efficient after development of the brake model. For the relatively high cost and limited coverage of test condition of the experimental verification, a virtual test environment of the brake system is established by using the vehicle model and the graphical interface of mature vehicle dynamics simulation software Carsim. Firstly, the brake system model is encapsulated into a dynamic link library. Then the new brake model according to the relationship between input and output of the brake system and vehicle through the S-function is integrated with Carsim vehicle model in Matlab/Simulink, replacing the Carsim brake model. Finally, the mixed model is verified though comparing with Carsim vehicle model in the same operation condition. The simulation results show that the validation and verification method are effective and low cost.

Abstract:
Automotive collision avoidance system, which aims to enhance the active safety of the vehicle, has become a hot research topic in recent years. However, most of the current systems ignore the active protection of pedestrian and other vulnerable groups in the transportation system. An advanced emergency braking control system is studied by taking into account the pedestrians and the vehicles. Three typical braking scenarios are defined and the safety situations are assessed by comparing the current distance between the host vehicle and the obstacle with the critical braking distance. To reflect the nonlinear time-varying characteristics and control effect of the longitudinal dynamics, the vehicle longitudinal dynamics model is established in CarSim. Then the braking controller with the structure of upper and lower layers is designed based on sliding mode control and the single neuron PID control when confronting deceleration or emergency braking conditions. Cosimulations utilizing CarSim and Simulink are finally carried out on a CarSim intelligent vehicle model to explore the effectiveness of the proposed controller. Results display that the designed controller has a good response in preventing colliding with the front vehicle or pedestrian.

Abstract:
Information about vehicle dynamics states is indispensable for modern dynamics control system on vehicle today. For economic reasons, a technique called “virtual sensor” which bases on dynamical model of vehicle and an observation algorithm are used to estimate real states of vehicle. In this paper, a system based on Hardware-in-the-loop simulation will be used to estimate the vehicle states in real time. CarSim is a professional software for simulating the dynamics of vehicle which is used as a virtual vehicle in this paper. An observer based on Luen-berge method is developed and implemented by Arduino Mega 2560 board. Matlab/Simulink plays the role of acquistion and data transfer center. The simulation results show the good performance of observer in real time condtion when the estimated values are well converged to real values given by CarSim.

The vehicle state information plays an important role in the vehicle active safety systems; this paper proposed a new concept to estimate the instantaneous vehicle speed, yaw rate, tire forces, and tire kinemics information in real time. The estimator is based on the 3DoF vehicle model combined with the piecewise linear tire model. The estimator is realized using the unscented Kalman filter (UKF), since it is based on the unscented transfer technique and considers high order terms during the measurement and update stage. The numerical simulations are carried out to further investigate the performance of the estimator under high friction and low friction road conditions in the MATLAB/Simulink combined with the Carsim environment. The simulation results are compared with the numerical results from Carsim software, which indicate that UKF can estimate the vehicle state information accurately and in real time; the proposed estimation will provide the necessary and reliable state information to the vehicle controller in the future.

Abstract:
In order to study the stability of a vehicle with inserts supporting run-flat tires after blowout, a run-flat tire model suitable for the conditions of a blowout tire was established. The unsteady nonlinear tire foundation model was constructed using Simulink, and the model was modified according to the discrete curve of tire mechanical properties under steady conditions. The improved tire blowout model was imported into the Carsim vehicle model to complete the construction of the co-simulation platform. CarSim was used to simulate the tire blowout of front and rear wheels under straight driving condition, and the control strategy of differential braking was adopted. The results show that the improved run-flat tire model can be applied to tire blowout simulation, and the performance of inserts supporting run-flat tires is superior to that of normal tires after tire blowout. This study has reference significance for run-flat tire performance optimization.

The paper analyzes the possibilities of using computer aided modelling programs for developing new cars to achieve better dynamical properties of control over vehicles. The article shortly reviews the behaviour of young and experienced drivers and models describing it. The paper covers the process of turning car steering wheel, considers acceptable values of lateral acceleration comfortable for a car driver and all car passengers and presents computer aided modelling program CarSim used for displaying single and double lane change manoeuvres at various speeds on dry asphalt. The given charts, including data about steering wheel angle and lateral acceleration values indicate single and double lane change manoeuvres performed by a car. Also, the values of longitudinal and lateral forces of each wheel during the double lane change manoeuvre are provided. Abstract:
Tires are the most influential component of the vehicle as they constitute the only contact between the vehicle and the road and have to generate and transmit forces necessary for the driver to control the vehicle. Hydroplaning is a phenomenon which occurs when a layer of water builds up between the tires of a vehicle and the road surface which leads to loss of traction that prevents the vehicle from responding to control inputs such as steering, braking or acceleration. It has become an extremely important factor in the automotive and tire industry to study the factors affecting vehicle hydroplaning. Nearly 10-20% of road fatalities are caused by lack of traction on wet surfaces. The tire tread pattern, load, inflation pressure, slip and camber angles influence hydroplaning to a great extent. Finite Element Analysis, although computationally expensive, provides an excellent way to study such Fluid Structure Interactions (FSI) between the tire-water-road surfaces. Abaqus FSI CEL approach has been used to study tire traction with various vehicle configurations. The tire force data obtained from the Finite Element simulations is used to develop a full vehicle hydroplaning model by integrating the relevant outputs with the commercially available vehicle dynamics simulation software, CarSim.<br>Master of Science

Abstract:
In any automotive system, the tires play a very crucial role in defining both the safety and performance of the vehicle. The interaction between the tire and the road surface determines the vehicle's ability to accelerate, decelerate and steer. Having information about this interaction in real-time can be very valuable for the on-board advanced active safety systems to mitigate the risks ahead of time and keep the vehicle stable. The crucial information which can be obtained from the tire includes but are not limited to tire-road friction, tire forces (longitudinal, lateral), normal load, road surface characteristics and tire pressure. This information can be acquired through indirect vehicle dynamics based estimation algorithms or through direct measurements using sensors inside the tire. However, the indirect estimations fail to give an accurate measure of the vehicle state in certain conditions (e.g. side winds, road banking, surface change) and require ABS or VSC activation before the estimation begins. Therefore, to improve the performance of these active stability systems, direct measurement based approaches must be explored. This research expands the applications of Intelligent tire and focuses on using the sensor based measurement approach to develop estimation algorithms relating to tire force measurement. A tri-axial accelerometer is attached to the inner liner of the tire (Intelligent Tire) and two of such tires are placed on an instrumented (MSW, VBox, IMU, Encoders) VW Jetta. Different controlled tests are carried out on the instrumented vehicle and the Intelligent tire signal is analyzed to extract features related to the tire forces and pressure. Due to unavailability of direct force measurements at the wheel, a VW Jetta simulation model is developed in CarSim and the extracted features are validated with a good correlation.<br>Master of Science

Automotive and Tire companies spend extensive amounts of time and money to tune their products through prototype testing at dedicated test facilities. This is mainly due to the limitations in the simulation capabilities that exist today. With greater competence in simulation, comes more control over designs in the initial stages, which in turn lowers the demand on the expensive stage of tuning. The work presented, aims at taking today's simulation capabilities a step forward by integrating models that are best developed in different software interfaces. An in-plane rigid ring model is used to understand the transient response of tires to various high frequency events such as Anti-Lock Braking and short wavelength road disturbances. A rule based ABS model performs the high frequency braking operation. The tire and ABS models have been created in the Matlab-Simulink environment. The vehicle model has been developed in CarSim. The models developed in Simulink have been integrated with the vehicle model in CarSim, in the form of a design tool that can be used by tire as well as vehicle designers for further tuning of the vehicle functional performances as they relate to in-line braking scenarios. Outdoor validation tests were performed to obtain data from a vehicle that was measured on a suspension parameter measuring machine (SPMM) in order to complement this design tool. The results of the objective tests performed have been discussed and the correlations and variations with respect to the simulation results have been analyzed.<br>Master of Science

Abstract:
The suspension system is one of the most sensitive systems of a vehicle as it affects the dynamic behavior of the vehicle with even minor changes. These systems are designed to carry out multiple tasks such as isolating the vehicle body from the road/tire vibrations as well as achieving desired ride and handling performance levels in both steady state and limit handling conditions. The damping coefficient of the damper plays a crucial role in determining the overall frequency response of the suspension system. Considerable research has been carried out on semi active damper systems as the damping coefficient can be varied without the system requiring significant external power giving them advantages over both passive and fully active suspension systems. Dampers behave as non-linear systems at higher frequencies and hence it has been difficult to develop accurate models for its full range of motion. This study aims to develop a velocity sensitive damper model using artificial neural networks and essentially provide a 'black-box' model which encapsulates the non-linear behavior of the damper. A feed-forward neural network was developed by testing a semi active damper on a shock dynamometer at CenTiRe for multiple frequencies and damping ratios. This data was used for supervised training of the network using MATLAB Neural Network Toolbox. The developed NN model was evaluated for its prediction accuracy. Further, the developed damper model was analyzed for feasibility of use for simulations and controls by integrating it in a Simulink based quarter car model and applying the well-known skyhook control strategy. Finally, effects on ride and handling dynamics were evaluated in Carsim by replacing the default damper model with the proposed model. It was established that this damper modeling technique can be used to help evaluate the behavior of the damper on both component as well as vehicle level without needing to develop a complex physics based model. This can be especially beneficial in the earlier stages of vehicle development.<br>Master of Science

A leader, Yokaanam, that believed to be the reincarnation of John the Baptist, had spiritual guides that helped him to guide the group, he caused polemic in Rio de Janeiro, and after this, peaceful, he received people from Brasilia and neighbourhood to mental and corporal cures. This moviment had been two thesis of doctor degree and one dissertation of mastership s main purpose and was considered by those researches a messianic moviment, but just while the leader was alive. In 1985, with his death, the moviment lost the enchantment, attracting less people than olden days. That s the main purpose of this dissertation. The main purpose is verify if the moviment may be considered messianic after Yokaanam s death. The dissertation try to expose a historic vision of the group and after this it resumes the main thesis and dissertation s ideas, and finally following Weber s concepts about Carism and Routinization, it constructs arguments to answer his own hypothesis. The data colect for the dissertation was done based on the two thesis and the dissertation, on the city journal Our, mountly published, and on local research, sistematic observation, interviews and short questionaries applied. In the end, the dissertation proves, based on the Weber s theory parameters, that the Yokaanam s moviment, today, doesn t seems to be messianic, because some basic characteristics of this moviment, like the founder carism, may be pondered like something that should be latent, his dinamism should be activated if the formal administration elect a new leader who was recognized by all the followers as Yokaanam s reincarnation, and this possibility isn t null, because there s an element of the group that is the kardecist creed of the reincarnation.<br>A Cidade Eclética, distante 10 (dez) quilômetros do município de Santo Antônio do Descoberto (GO), foi construída por um grupo de pessoas que tinha vindo do Rio de Janeiro, em 1956, para viver uma forma de religião que pregava o fim do mundo. Um líder, Yokaanam, que acreditava ser reencarnação de João Batista e tinha guias espirituais que o ajudavam na condução do grupo, tinha suscitado muitas polêmicas no Rio de Janeiro; mais tranqüilo em sua nova sede, recebia moradores tanto de Brasília como das cidades vizinhas, para curas corporais e espirituais. Este movimento tinha sido objeto de estudo de duas teses de doutoramento e uma dissertação de mestrado, e foi considerado pelos autores como sendo um movimento messiâmico enquanto o líder vivia. Em 1985, com a morte do líder, o movimento de Yokaanam parecia ter perdido seu encanto original atraindo menos adeptos. Este é o objeto de estudo desta dissertação. Sua finalidade principal é verificar se o movimento de Yokaanam poderia continuar sendo classificado como messiânico depois da morte do líder. A dissertação procurou dar uma visão histórica do grupo, depois resumiu as principais idéias das duas teses e da dissertação que o estudaram; por fim, a partir do conceito de carisma e rotinização de Weber, construiu seu argumento para responder sua hipótese. A coleta de dados desta dissertação foi feita a partir das duas teses e da dissertação, do jornal da cidade, O Nosso publicado mensalmente e de pesquisa de campo, observação sistemática, entrevistas semi-estruturadas. No final do estudo este trabalho provou que dentro dos parâmetros estabelecidos pela teoria weberiana, o movimento de Yokaanam, não poderia ser classificado hoje como messiânico, porque faltam nele alguns elementos fundamentais destes movimentos, como a presença de um líder tido como messias, a espera do milênio; contudo como o carisma do fundador poderia estar latente na vida do grupo e na esperança de alguns adeptos, nada impediria que em um momento de crise ou conflito maior, entre o grupo em estudo e a sociedade geral, esta liderança surgisse novamente, de sua latência, em um adepto ou uma outra pessoa reconhecida pelo grupo, como reencarnação de Yokaanam.

Le travail présenté dans ce mémoire concerne l'élaboration d'approches de commande tolérante aux défauts (FTC) ainsi que l'estimation simultanée des états du système et de défauts capteurs et actionneurs pour différentes classes de systèmes. Les conditions de synthèse décrites dans ce manuscrit améliorent et permettent de réduire le conservatisme des résultats existants dans la littérature. Dans une première étape, nous nous sommes intéressés à la synthèse de la commande FTC à base d'observateur pour les systèmes T-S descripteurs à retard en présence de défauts actionneurs. Les conditions de synthèse dépendantes de la taille du retard, à la fois de l'observateur et du contrôleur sont résolues en une seule étape. Dans une deuxième étape, nous avons proposé une stratégie d'estimation des défauts et de la commande FTC pour les systèmes descripteurs flous de type T-S en présence simultanée de défauts actionneurs et capteurs ainsi que des perturbations extérieures. La troisième et dernière partie de ce travail concerne la synthèse d'une loi de commande robuste FTC basée sur un observateur adaptatif descripteur pour la dynamique du véhicule. La méthode proposée offre des conditions de LMIs moins restrictives que celles établies dans la littérature. L'approche proposée est validée en simulation sur le logiciel Carsim comme étant une application de la dynamique dérive-lacet-roulis du véhicule en présence de défauts capteurs, actionneurs et de perturbations extérieures<br>This work deals with the development of new technologies of fault tolerant control (FTC), state and sensor/actuator faults estimation for different classes of systems. The algorithm described in this manuscript improve and reduce the conservatism of existing results in the literature. Firstly, we were interested in the synthesis of adaptive observer-based FTC for Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) descriptor systems with time-delay in presence of actuator faults. The analysis and design conditions of observer-based FTC are formulated into a set of delay-dependent linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) which can be solved in a single step. Then, an adaptive observer-based FTC strategy is proposed for both T-S descriptor systems and T-S fuzzy systems subject to simultaneous actuator and sensor faults under external disturbances. The last part of this work concerns the issue of the lateral vehicle and rollover dynamics which is approximated by the T-S fuzzy model under the influence of actuator and sensor faults with external disturbances. Using the cone complementarity linearization algorithm, the proposed method offers less restrictive LMI conditions than those established in the literature. The proposed approach is validated in simulation on the Carsim software as an application of the dynamics of the vehicle in presence of sensor, actuator faults and external disturbances

Cette approche a pour but de reconstituer le plus objectivement possible la vie religieuse carienne et son paysage religieux. Il s'agit d'étudier l'interaction entre les pratiques et les représentations pour comprendre le lien entre la dimension spatiale des faits religieux et la perception qu'en avaient les anciens. Ce travail de recherche s'interroge également sur les échos entre les cultes et la symbolique des éléments qui les composent. Pour chaque Zeus, il est ainsi nécessaire de déterminer le sens à donner à l'épiclèse et aux représentations qui leur sont associées et de comprendre le contexte cultuel dans lequel ils ont évolué. À travers l'étude de la figure jovienne, dont l'attribut est devenu le symbole du territoire, c'est le fonctionnement du système religieux carien dans son ensemble qui est mis en lumière. Le croisement des diverses données permet enfin d'appréhender le phénomène d’acculturation en Carie. L'objectif est de déterminer les contacts continus et directs que des cultures différentes ont eu et les modifications qu'elles ont entraînées dans les modèles culturels initiaux des divers groupes. Il convient donc de distinguer les permanences et les innovations qui se manifestent au sein de la vie religieuse dans la région. De nombreux éléments préhelléniques sont ainsi notables dans cette région particulièrement conservatrice, permettant parfois d'identifier des traces de continuité ou de réappropriation entre les cultes anatoliens et grecs<br>The objective of this study is to understand the religious acculturation and changes in Caria, through Zeus' epicleses, cults and representations associated with it. This work emphasizes a multidisciplinary approach to all data related to places of worship. It leads us to articulate all the sources available to us through the use of various disciplines of archeology as well as philology, epigraphy, numismatics and iconography, to establish a knowledge network linking religious history and archeology of worship. This approach aims to reconstruct objectively as possible the Carian religious life and religious landscape. This is to study the interaction between practices and representations to understand the relationship between the spatial dimension of religious facts and the perception of them old. This research also questions the echoes between cults and symbolic elements that compose them. Each Zeus, it is thus necessary to determine the meaning of the epiclesis and representations associated with them and understand the cultic context in which they evolved. Through the study of the Jovian figure, whose attribute has become the symbol of the territory, the operation of the Carian religious system as a whole is revealed. The crossing of the various data finally allows us to understand the phenomenon of acculturation in Caria. The aim is to identify ongoing and contacts that different cultures have had and the changes they generated in the original cultural patterns of various groups. It is therefore necessary to distinguish the continuities and innovations that occur in the religious life in the region. Many pre-Hellenic elements are thus particularly notable in this conservative region, sometimes to identify traces of continuity or reappropriation between the Anatolian and Greek cults
