Es importante destacar la labor de publicaciones en el contexto universitario y reconocer el indudable aporte de la Facultad de Ciencias Humanas y su programa de Historia de la Universidad de Cartagena, por salir adelante con esta primera publicación abriendo los espacios para la reflexión de nuestra memoria y cultura. Sin embargo, me he permitido realizar estas notas aclaratorias por la significación y alcance que tiene una reseña en los medios académicos divulgativos y agradecer el esfuerzo del profesor Javier Ortiz por sus comentarios sobre algunos aspectos de su contenido, en la que pese a sus observaciones reconoce en la misma el incuestionable valor de la obra.

El presente artículo se propone analizar, desde la perspectiva del siglo XXI, los acervos de la Reforma Universitaria de Córdoba, Argentina, el 15 de junio de 1918. En aquél entonces la reacción estudiantil contra una institución universitaria clerical, autoritaria y conservadora incluyó su crítica como una alternativa democratizadora que se expandió por América Latina. Durante el siglo XX hubo distintas experiencias que resultan aportes valiosos para pensar la Universidad del siglo XXI en el marco de la construcción de la Patria Grande a partir del reformismo y del nacionalismo popular revolucionario. La Declaración de Cartagena de Indias de 2008, por parte del Consejo Regional de Educación Superior (CRES) de la UNESCO recupera estas herencias, proponiendo rescates de su espíritu democratizador en los planos del gobierno, su proyecto pedagógico y su proyección hacia los contextos nacionales y regionales

The progress made in developing information and communication technologies (ICTs) and the fact that water resources are becoming increasingly scarce make precision agriculture a very valuable tool for efficient and sustainable crop management, particularly for irrigation and fertilisation. In line with this, the water balance estimate is considered one of the most accurate methods for estimating crops’ water requirements. The Agromotic Engineering and Sea Research Group of the Universidad Politécnica de Cartagena (Spain) has worked in this direction to obtain portable weighing lysimeters with improved functions compared to traditional measurement systems. This study analysed the most important vegetable crops in south-eastern Spain to standardise suitable dimensions so that these portable weighing lysimeters can monitor practically all of today’s vegetable and herbaceous crops in Mediterranean climates. The dimensions established for the cultivation tank are 150 cm long, 45 cm wide, and 50 cm deep, with an equipment resolution of up to 0.09 mm expressed as water lamina. The validation over seven irrigation events established that the structural system achieved here allows precise monitoring of the water exchanges produced in the cultivation tank, so this portable weighing lysimeter can be useful for the efficient management of fertigation.

The main priority in photovoltaic (PV) panels is the production of electricity. The transformation of solar energy into electricity depends on the operating temperature in such a way that the performance increases with the decreasing temperatures. In the existing literature, different cooling techniques can be found. The purpose of most of them is to use air or water as thermal energy carriers. This work is focused on the use of air as a working fluid whose movement is either induced by natural convection or forced by means of a fan. The aim of this study is to characterise the electrical behaviour of the solar panels in order to improve the design of photovoltaic installations placed in roof applications ensuring low operating temperatures which will correct and reverse the effects produced on efficiency by high temperature. To do this, a test installation has been constructed at the Universidad Politécnica de Cartagena in Spain. In this paper, the results of the tests carried out on two identical solar panels are included. One of them has been modified and mounted on different channels through which air flows. The different studies conducted show the effects of the air channel cross-section, the air velocity, and the panel temperature on the electrical parameters of the solar panels, such as the voltage, current, power, and performance. The results conclude that the air space between the photovoltaic panels and a steel roof must be high enough to allow the panel to be cooled and consequently to achieve higher efficiency.

Education for health and sustainability has to be understood from a new perspective beyond the traditional conceptual limits. Thus, following the lines of the 2030 sustainable development goals, we examine how permanent education and adult education can become a fundamental element for the achievement of said objectives, serving as a neutraliser of psychosocial risk factors. In other words, a quality education throughout life becomes a dynamic factor for the development of lifestyle habits and healthy aging, purposes that during the pandemic and the state of alarm have been altered by confinement, closure of educational centres, and methodological changes. The objective of the study is to analyse whether the maintenance of educational activity has influenced the psychological state of people, reducing, neutralising, or increasing the psychosocial risk factors linked to confinement and the evolution of COVID-19. For this, an observational study was developed, taking as a case the Universidad Popular Dos Hermanas (Seville, Spain), with a sample of 384 learners over the age of 16 years. The variables considered were sociodemographic means and technical tools, assessment of the institution, teacher assessment, and psychosocial variables related to possible effects caused by the context. The data were collected through a self-developed questionnaire. Descriptive analyses and bivariate correlations were carried out. Methodological diversity and positive correlations were shown in terms of the institution’s function, teaching assessment, maintenance of activity, and reduction of psychopathological risks.

Biomedical engineers prefer decision forests over traditional decision trees to design state-of-the-art Parkinson’s Detection Systems (PDS) on massive acoustic signal data. However, the challenges that the researchers are facing with decision forests is identifying the minimum number of decision trees required to achieve maximum detection accuracy with the lowest error rate. This article examines two recent decision forest algorithms Systematically Developed Forest (SysFor), and Decision Forest by Penalizing Attributes (ForestPA) along with the popular Random Forest to design three distinct Parkinson’s detection schemes with optimum number of decision trees. The proposed approach undertakes minimum number of decision trees to achieve maximum detection accuracy. The training and testing samples and the density of trees in the forest are kept dynamic and incremental to achieve the decision forests with maximum capability for detecting Parkinson’s Disease (PD). The incremental tree densities with dynamic training and testing of decision forests proved to be a better approach for detection of PD. The proposed approaches are examined along with other state-of-the-art classifiers including the modern deep learning techniques to observe the detection capability. The article also provides a guideline to generate ideal training and testing split of two modern acoustic datasets of Parkinson’s and control subjects donated by the Department of Neurology in Cerrahpaşa, Istanbul and Departamento de Matemáticas, Universidad de Extremadura, Cáceres, Spain. Among the three proposed detection schemes the Forest by Penalizing Attributes (ForestPA) proved to be a promising Parkinson’s disease detector with a little number of decision trees in the forest to score the highest detection accuracy of 94.12% to 95.00%.

RESUMENLa pretensión de este artículo es ofrecer una serie de reflexiones y valoraciones metodológicas sobre la historia medieval de la Iglesia y la religiosidad partiendo de algunos aspectos destacados de la producción historiográfica reciente y esbozar ciertas propuestas en la misma clave metodológica. Este ensayo reflexiona sobre temas, enfoques y perspectivas, sobre los niveles de estudio de lo religioso y sobre la integración de la historia de la Iglesia y la historia social, y aboga por una historiasocial de la Iglesia.PALABRAS CLAVE: Historia Medieval, Historia de la Iglesia y la vida religiosa en la Edad Media, Metodología histórica, Liturgia y sociedad, Tendencias historiográficas.ABSTRACTThe aim of this article is to offer a series of reflections and methodological evaluations on the medieval history of the Church and religiosity based on some outstanding aspects of recent historiographical production, and to outline certain proposals in the same methodological vein. Viburnum tinus L., commonly known as laurustinus, is an ornamental shrub that is widely used as a garden plant and flower crop. V. tinus is popular because of its desirable characteristics such as evergreen foliage, tolerance to pruning, winter blooms, and its adaptation to cold temperate zones. It is also relatively easy to grow and is commonly used as a windbreak. Infection of this ornamental species by Alfalfa mosaic virus (AMV) has been associated with yellow mottling or variegated leaf coloring, including light green and white, and has been referred to as the “Viburnum Calico” (1,4). In April 2011, at the onset of winter in the Southern Hemisphere, intense yellow spotting and mottling was observed on V. tinus leaves in the San Joaquin Campus at Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile. Presence of Aphis spiraecola Patch was observed on the shrubs, however, in the area it is also common to find other aphid species such as Toxoptera aurantii (Boyer de Fonscolombe) and A. fabae Scopoli. Leaf tissue samples from 10 asymptomatic and 10 symptomatic plants were examined for the presence of AMV by tissue-blot immunoassay with a commercially available polyclonal antibody (Agdia Inc., Elkhart, IN) along with the Goat affinity purified anti-rabbit IgG conjugated (Whole Molecule) (Molecular Probes, Invitrogen Corp., Carlsbad, CA). First-strand cDNA synthesis and PCR were performed with specific primers CP-AMV1 and CP-AMV2 (3). AMV was detected in all symptomatic leaves and also in two of the asymptomatic tissue analyzed by tissue blot assay. Reverse transcription (RT)-PCR produced 753-bp amplicons in all samples that were positive to AMV by tissue printing. No amplification product was observed when water control or seronegative samples were used as templates in the RT-PCR assays. Two amplicons were directly sequenced in both directions to confirm the identification of AMV in the leaf samples. The sequences obtained were homologous and BLASTN analysis of the submitted sequence (GenBank Accession No. JN040542) showed 99% nucleotide sequence identity to an AMV isolate described from Nicotiana tabacum L. (GenBank Accession No. FJ527749). These results demonstrate the presence of AMV in V. tinus in Chile. This pathogen has also been described to be affecting V. tinus in France (1) and V. lucidum Mill. in Spain (2). In Chile, V. tinum is increasingly grown as an ornamental plant. Therefore, care should be taken to ensure that the propagative materials of V. tinum are devoid of AMV infection to prevent further spread of this virus. References: (1) L. Cardin et al. RESUMENEl estudio histórico de la religiosidad islámica se ha encontrado tradicionalmente con el problema de la escasez de fuentes. Además, siempre se ha estudiado a partir de las fuentes islámicas, obviando las cristianas. Si es cierto que para la Edad Media las fuentes cristianas no ofrecen demasiada información y están además viciadas por su carácter polémico, también lo es que para la Edad Moderna, con el surgimiento de un tipo de literatura sobre el islam que está alejado de la tradición polémica, disponemos de un buen número de importantes fuentes cristianas que merecen ser tenidas en cuenta en cualquier análisis histórico de la religiosidad islámica. Es el caso especialmente de la Topographía e Historia general de Argel (1612), cuyas descripciones y observaciones resultan de una riqueza sin precedentes.PALABRAS CLAVE: Edad Moderna, cinco pilares del islam, religiosidad, España, Argel.ABSTRACTTraditionally, the historical study of Islamic religiosity has been faced with the problem of the scant amount of sources. Moreover, it has always been approached on the basis of Islamic sources, disregarding the Christian ones. If for the Middle Ages Christian sources do not present much information about the subject and this is tainted by its polemical character, for the Early Modern Age, with the emergence of a new kind of literature about Islam that does not belong to the polemical tradition, we have at our disposal a good number of sources of information. This is particularly thecase of the Topographía e Historia general de Argel (1612), with descriptions and observations of an unprecedented quality. In order to change the preconceptions of youth towards science and technology subjects (which, usually, are perceived as difficult or boring), new educational methods aimed at motivating and engaging students in learning are becoming more and more necessary. In this sense, an educational project called ‘UPCT-Bloopbusters’ through which a group of professors of the Universidad Politécnica de Cartagena (UPCT), Spain, use science fiction movie scenes ─as well as experiments─ within the lecture room to teach both physics and engineering technology is hereby presented. The methodology of the project is properly described and the results of a survey carried out among the students of a course in which such methodology has been used are shown. In view of this survey, it can be concluded that the project has been more than welcome by the students while at the same time has favored the learning of a great deal of physics and technology concepts.
