Full textWhen considering the map as a language we admit that there are implications for the communication process which depend on the means through which the representations take shape. Therefore, as pedagogical experiences pile up with cartography products in digital medium, the analysis of the limitations of digital media in the relationship between human being and map becomes pertinent. The first chapter presents an approach to the current stage of intellectual production of students, teachers and researchers about the didactic practices with digital cartography resources in scholar teaching of geography in Brazil. The possibilities of communications created by interactive maps are taken as a refence in this analysis. At the end of the chapter, we conclude that in general, didactic uses of such resources do not contemplate conceptually and methodologically the exclusive characteristics of interactive maps. Given this scenario, we intended to investigate two themes in the research: a) what the unique properties of the communication system in the interactive maps are, and b) through which concept of didactic use such properties may contribute to the teaching and the learning processes. Towards that aim, in the second chapter, the essential differences of communication with the map contents in the digital medium are sought and described. Concepts of interactivity and cartographic visualization which allow a new condition of the student in front of the map are drawn upon at this stage. The new conditions of the active participation of the user in the cartographic communication process break up with the conventional system cartographer map reader and this break implies a conceptual and methodological update of the cartographic practices. From the contrast between the two initial parts we propose a pedagogical appropriation of cartographic visualization concept. That proposed appropriation was used to develop a learning situation based on the theoretical-methodological principles of the Activity Guide in teaching. These principles are described at the beginning of the third chapter. To develop the learning situation, we define the learning content (concept of spatial orientation) and evaluate the characteristics of the software used (Google Earth). The choice of these elements spawned from the observation of two 6th year classes each from a different school in São Paulo city. At the end of the third chapter we describe the experience of pre-testing of the didactic situation at one of the schools. The final version of the learning situation was developed from the pre-testing and its adjustment. In the fourth chapter we analyze qualitatively the dialogue and graphic representation from a group of students. Our analysis shows how characteristics of interactive maps, when congruent with a methodology based on the principles of psycho-pedagogical studies can help the student to appropriate of the geographic school content.

Full textThis work, which we call the challenge, is strengthened by two epistemologies that deal with the construction of knowledge: the complexity of Edgar Morin that we used as method and the Genetic Epistemology by Jean Piaget that strengthened us in understanding the (dis) construction of Cartographic knowledge in School Education. As a goal, we study the construction of knowledge of cartography in Geography teacher’s training and its implications in school education. It looks for initially to sustain some concerns on our journey as teachers and researchers. Are there or not the deficiencies in the school environment in the construction of cartographic knowledge? Is there or not concern from Geography teachers in demystifying the paradox of cartographic iliteracy in school education? The come and go of construction of the spatiality of Geography and Cartography as tool motivated us to suggest some new stuff in order to mobilize transformations, such as geographic/cartographic information Menu workshop and the amusement park, using the cartographic spatiality. Through the qualitative research, the motion was held in public and private schools in the metropolitan area of Recife, in the College / University which trains Geography teachers (FUNESO and UFPE) and the Department of Cartographic Engineering UFPE. Thus, it was achieved the clarity of the need to include Cartography School in the curriculum of the courses that train Geography teachers. This challenge seems to generate other challenges in building new object, and then to produce new movements, new constructions, in a recursive and dialogic movement.

Based on the understanding that the appropriate use of tactile maps facilitates the interpretation of space and its use for students with visual impairment, this study emphasizes the importance of educational programs towards the reading and interpretation of a map. This study aimed to analyze the contributions of an educational program to introduce the tactile cartographic language to students with visual impairment. In order to perform this research it has carried out a descriptive investigation outlined by a multi case study. The participants of this research were two teachers who assist on Specialized Educational Service (AEE), two teachers from regular school and two students with visual impairment with different ages (seven and ten years old). The research it has developed with the application of the following tools: semi structured interview; questionnaire and pedagogical evaluation. All data were registered in diaries, filming and photography. The content of interviews, pedagogical evaluation and diary were submitted to the theory of content analysis. The educational program has contributed to improve the ability of students with visual impairment to identify the tactile cartographic variable used in maps. In this context, it is suggested that the Tactile Cartography make part of the curriculum of graduation in Geography, Pedagogy and all related graduation courses in order to prepare teachers to work with students with visual impairment.

This thesis is dedicated to discuss, through different modes of thinking and writing, the proliferation of social sportive projects (SSP). For this, in terms of development, was put under way the called "cartographic transaction", which is to map and rehearse these projects, taking them as an event, and, for this thesis, was used as the city boundary Rio Grande-RS, in the period between 2008 and 2011. Such projects have multiplied in Brazilian society that mostly conveys claims "Salvationists" in relation to individuals considered in a situation or state of social vulnerability. Individuals are positioned targeted interventions that use sport as a means to achieve their goals. The hypothesis that runs through the texts that comprise this thesis is built around the idea that such projects, rather than approaching these individuals - "vulnerable social" – make vulnerable certain individuals, "inventing" people - the vulnerable – and a segmenting "social" for purposes of government. The sport can be considered a second delimiter for research, since there was no commitment to treat it deeply, but as a vehicle chosen to put the proposed so-called "social" in operation. The thesis is divided, for purposes of presentation in two parts: the first is treated to what was here called "method’s lessons”, following three important concepts that the philosopher and professor Michel Foucault addresses in his writings as "method’s issues ". These are: a critique of the universal, notions of practical and strategic mechanisms and of paradox, taken as the key to thinking. Furthermore, this first part, is recorded the solo "theoretical-methodological" that has allowed us to qualify the mapping of the proliferation of SSP as a "cartographic" - rhizomatic cartography, this is not because of any mapping that it is, just as some details are given about twenty-nine (29) projects mapped and some projects that aim to put these announcements in operation. The second part of the thesis essays the proliferation of SSP, taking it as a problem for thought and writing. Composed of independent texts to each other, which are problematized the modes of operation of these projects, the "invention" of a population for intervention, targeting the "social", the increasing vulnerability of individuals and in ways that aim " make-live "and normalize. Finally, it is not a set of "manifest" against the social projects, but some possibilities to consider these actions as well as its necessary condition, in other words, think of them at the level of your "arrangements" strategic and contingent explained in the documents, which are articulated in the mechanisms and techniques and to think of them taking them as "political life" things that are characterized as education and government and, thus, involved in the creation and placement of subjects.

Full textIn this dissertation thesis we discuss the process of learning Geography. The construction of this research was based on activities elaboration organized in Didactic Sequence, which approached the students\' living place, understood as context for the teaching of cartographic skills and geographic concepts such as urbanization, demographic density and urban infrastructure. The aim of this work was the proposal of Scientific Literacy Indicators for Geographical Education, elaborating an evaluation system of teaching and learning process in Geography. For that, we perform theoretical approaches between Spatial Thinking, Cartographic Literacy, Geographical Reasoning and Scientific Literacy. The heart of the dialogue between these proposals is the concern to define the concepts and skills that must be taught in Geography. It was from this construction that we elaborated the indicators and tested them on the activities of the Didactic Sequence. The methodology we used was the qualitative and interpretative research, therefore we consider the students\' action on the environment and enhance their relationships with the around school. Bringing the living Place as a conceptual and scientific approach to the classroom was a way of moving students\' reasoning about their interpretations of the Place where they live, the characteristics of the dwelling, the infrastructure and the urban services that surround them. Therefore, the approach developed was aimed at promoting meaningful learning, valuing the understanding of phenomena and the apprehension of skills and geographical theories. The data generated allowed us to verify the effects of the action-research, to evaluate the results about the students\' apprenticeship and to make reflections on the activities elaborated. This analysis was established according to the Indicators of Scientific Literacy for Geographic Education, enabling to ponder on this form of inquiry and to consider the viability of the teaching-learning process from teaching theories based on Scientific and Cartographic Literacy and Spatial Thinking, out of the didactic perspective of the Place as context.

Starting from the theme design and education, the main focus of this study is the school space, because it is the place, besides the family space, where children develop competences and cognitive abilities, collect their first sensations, impressions and begin the process of great physical, psychological and social changes. Based in authors such as Antônio Fontoura, Sonia Kramer, Maria Apparecida Mamede Neves and Rita Couto, the work takes on the challenge of approaching the object of investigation having theoretical fields structured around concepts such as Design in Education and Child Education. The investigation considered the conceptual references in which is based the theoretical framework of reflection about school spaces, mainly approaches by authors such as Antônio Viñao Frago, Agustín Escolano, Doris Kowaltowski, Mayumi Lima and Ana Lucia Goulart de Faria. The problem that guided the investigation was that: How Design and Education, when allied, may contribute with their respective bodies of knowledge, methodologies and practices for creating a living space, proper to the development, experiences and learning in the scope of the preschool? Guided by this problem, a project was carried out, in the Republic of Sao Tome and Principe, Africa, together with the work field, for the redetermination and renovation of three pilot schools - Creche School Primeiro de Maio; Kindergarten of Monte Café and Kindergarten Good Entrance. In face of the stages that made up the renovation project of the schools, the methodological approach of Design in Partnership was used aiming their validation by the users, by contributing with significant information allowing the discovery of proper solutions, generating a new value to configurations as well as school environments. The resignification of the spaces of the three schools was not made only by actions regarding the physical aspects of the school building, but it founded the valorization of human and pedagogic aspects, creating interactive environments, stimulating the playing, for the aesthetic experience. This resignification also enabled to establish immersive spaces of perception and contact with nature. The findings point to possibilities for developing school projects with a signed commitment with the quality of life of children and elaborating an example of the school space. By considering that schools are living spaces aimed to educational activities in strict sense, it is being said that school learning does not occur only when children are in classroom. The resignification of school spaces was a pilot experience being used as an inspiration so that other schools of Sao Tome and Principe may be contemplated and providing subsides to improve the quality of life of public schools in similar contexts, within Africa itself, and able to also be extended to schools of specific regions in Brazil.

It explores the potential of a digital storytelling intervention in an undergraduate geomatics diploma programme. Geomatics qualifications in South Africa are critiqued for their embedded humanism and subtle anthropocentrism despite attempts at post-apartheid curricular reform. Additionally, these qualifications are focused on technical content, and heavily influenced by Western knowledges.

Abstract: How our living experience in a city could be less monotonic so that relevant facts enable us to produce new senses, feelungs or even new ways to live in such context? How could art be expressed in such caothic environment? How could the experiences in art, city and education interact together in order to structure thoughts that could inspire educators and artists in their processes? The current research is based on possible alternatives to make people think about such questions through experienced facts in several cities I've lived in and relating them to educational practices in p laces where no formal education happens, for example, Campinas, São Paulo, specifically in boroughs Jardim São Marcos and Satélite Íris I. This essay also goes by experiences that are related either to mapping strategies, which guide the route from start to end, or to labyrinthine strategies, which aim to disorient people by derive to uncertain paths that are build with the purpose to make people feel disoriented. Herewith I seek for the map or labyrinth, taking into consideration, travel, business, living experiences in the cities where I lived, with the proposal for educational activities. Derivé, Urban Intervention and Maps were the chosen practice to potencialize and also inspire educational processes in which the city is regarded as an experiment field and valuable learning experiences

This research comes from the worries experienced by the author while teaching in a Primary School, where it was possible to observe some difficulties that the other teachers had to mediate concepts about Geography and Cartography, both part of the theme “Nature and society”, included in the school routine of the students in such stage. Among the questions that arise when thinking about the course of the teaching and learning process, related to the geographic and cartographic contents, it becomes necessary to understand how the acquisition of notions about time and space are developed in the first years of the childhood. Facing this challenge, the main goal of this research was to present a didactic sequence, with proposals of pedagogical activities to form lesson plans for children from 4 to 6 years old, in the Early Childhood Education, helping them during the understanding of the geographic concepts. In order to do that, observations and analysis of the pedagogical routine with the students were performed in “Group 4” (children from 4 to 6 years old), from the Centro de Convivência Infantil of Unesp, Rio Claro/SP. Seeking to comprehend the structure of children’s thoughts, their actions and reactions, space perception and the experience acquired within the environment where they live, this work was based on Vygotsky’s studies and his theory about the zone of proximal development, the mediation process, and the sociocultural development of the individual. Many activities were developed with them, having as result a didactic sequence composed of elaborated lesson plans. The main theme was “The Solar System”, which made possible to work on the concepts “Day and night – interaction between the Earth and the Sun”, “The Moon and the Earth – Moon features and the eclipse” and, to conclude, “The four seasons of the year – the revolution movement and its interferences on Earth”.

Full textThe emergence of practices engaged to use maps as instruments of contestation, such as the participatory mapping methodology, combined with theoretical effervescence on criticizing maps, especially from Brian Harley, is critical cartography. Participatory maps come up as a proposal to strengthen the defense of traditional communities, in the context of territorial conflict. Thus, a multitude of experiences and techniques is developed with the purpose of counter hegemonic cartographic representations. Meanwhile, in the theoretical scenario, maps have its character of neutral scientific document questioned and situated in the midst of power relations. Historically, maps were and still are used in strategies of domination and there are several situations that justify such a claim. In addition, the maps are also contesting instruments and appear as a counterpoint to the different hegemonic strategies of power. This research aimed to discuss the political nature of this relationship, and to strengthen the production of maps that can be a counterpoint to the status quo. The scientific literature was reviewed to support the criticism around maps and to endorse the empirical research organization and analysis which consisted of a formative experience in critical and participatory mapping, carried out with young public school students from the outskirts of São Paulo. As a result, nine workshops were developed, systematized and evaluated, being capable of replication in other areas. To promote new players into the mapping scene is to confront and make opposition to the dominant cartographic discourse and the school is a strategic space for such actions.

The main objectives of this research were, firstly, to understand and verify the everyday use of the pedagogical and teaching support resources in the Environmental Education, secondly, to reflect about the use of those resources and, finally, to contribute by giving examples of techniques and concepts to the production and properness of such resources to enable the teaching of the subject on the basic level, high school and university courses. In order to reach those aims there was an attempt to identify the pedagogical support resources which were being used in the western region of São Paulo state - the þþPontal do Paranapanemaþþ. That aim was obtained by means of courses, pedagogical workshops and interviews. Afterwards, it was suggested through technical training, the most adequate teaching forms for the subject. It was possible to verify, through the experiences, the inadequate use of the teaching resources for the mentioned subject as well as a lack of a permanent technical orientation to enable the teachersþ knowledge. During the survey 310 teachers and pedagogical coordinators received the orientations. Beside that, 78 graduating students on geography also took advantage of the techniques. The environmental education as it is taught in public schools needs an accurate direction and a political answer so that it can be properly reached.

Full textThis dissertation aims to follow the childhood and educational experiences of deaf children through the images produced and chosen by them in a deaf school, a regular nursery school and where they live with their family based on the method of cartography. This method is articulated with the concepts of Cultural and Deaf Studies to discuss the childhood and the production of identities and of the deaf diversity. Cartography is a study of power relations that makes up a particular field of experience, not depending on a plan to carry out, a set of skills to acquire or of a list of skills to apply in a particular field by the researcher. It emphasizes the gathering, the allowance to "speak what was not yet in the sphere of the already known, to access the experience of each individual, making connections, discovering reading, playing, the links and everything that lies at the intersection and on the fringes of these existential territories. " (BARROS e KASTRUP, 2010, p.61). Cartography is therefore a practice that goes hand in hand with a process. During this research process, the approximations with the fields of philosophy and childhood were sought to reflect about thinking, so that one can look from different perspectives and places at childhood and deafness, perhaps to rewrite what was already thought and said in and about the education of deaf children. The analysis of the empirical data shows that deaf children, to be children, subvert the order of what is "best for the deaf child" starting from the need to go to school, that provides their meals, hygiene the care and education, which are such intrinsic, specific aspects of child education. It is our belief that the education of deaf children should happen among deaf children in a deaf school, but for that it is necessary to make some displacements, such as looking at childhood as much as at deafness, and that the child will not attend this school just to have special classes to learn sign language for a couple of hours a week. It is possible to think of striving for an education that stimulates thinking and learning, in which one has the power to be a child and the power to live deaf identity because what we are is not only a result of what we do, but also what and how we experience it. We are all in constant process, working in the production of other existence forms.

This Master’s Dissertation has the purpose of evidencing the knowledge of school records from students who attended the Specialized Educational Assistance (SEA). It was developed a theoretical framework with some information about the concepts of power and knowledge, as well as school inclusion functioning in relation to legislation. To guide this research, cartography was used as inspiration, through the definition of two clues/instruments. They were the notebooks and the normative school records. The notebook identified a school production document which met all the searched official documents. This production received the knowledge form produced by school, called Curricular Knowledge of an Adapted Curriculum. In the normative school records, there were terms/expressions which identified the individual with special educational needs. From this information, it was possible to verify traces of psychological and medical knowledge, which were called notions of a psychological knowledge and notions of a medical knowledge. The production of this cartography, from notebook records and from school normative records, evidenced that three types of knowledge were constantly present. Such types of knowledge connect to each other all the time. However, the Curricular Knowledge of an Adapted Curriculum needs two other types of knowledge to properly function, the notions of a psychological knowledge and the notions of a medical knowledge.

Full textThis study focuses, within an historical perspective, on the politics of access to superior Education in Brazil, through the analysis of the federal legislation published between 1824 and 2004. We tried to analyze how the Brazilian state rules over this process through a normative net. We use the theoretical and methodological approach of symbolic cartography, using concepts like: scale, projection and symbolization. In this way, as we use the metaphoric language of cartography, we use the word Atlas to call our thesis. The concept of scale was used as a written form, through categorization, and elements of analysis and space. The Atlas was designed mostly in a greater scale, which means it draws a small space: the access to superior education, allowing the perception of details that the small scale tends to disdain. The concept of projection refers to center and periphery. As center we consider the ruling and legislative action of the state; as periphery elements which, directly or indirectly, infer upon access, like the question of privileges, free access, and the expansion and diversification of superior education. The symbolization tried to map the grammar represented by the criterions for access to superior education. In the various periods scrutinized, we could verify the massive state influence in the access to superior education, mainly through the actions of the legislative and executive. There were small variations of format and structure of access to superior education during the period studied, but no radical change in the process. Yet, there were some alterations of forms and methodology of application and use of results which did not result in a greater democratization of access. The selection examination of various norms and epochs had (and already have) the intents to test the candidate’ capacity and merit. Initially their function was to distribute existing place between candidates, however up to 1925 it began to select the better ones. With the Federal constitution of 1988 and the law of directives and foundation of 1996, the access to superior education presents new forms which substituted or complemented the old process: the selection exam called vestibular. This new forms may be progressive, which means diluted through high school, as in the Ranked Evaluation Process or in the Alternative Program of Access to Superior Education; the may be lighter, as occurs with the application of a single exam; they may make profit of the High School National Exam, between other possibilities.

Full textThe present work has the objective to verify the use of the Environmental Cartography as a tool of environmental impacts representation, generated by human activities in a brook of the city of Lorena SP , and that, later, they can be important instruments using to the students of the Basic Education to identify and understand environment the cartographic representations. For the success of this project, photographic registers of the impacts were carried out and, with the support of a high resolution mosaic of images from Google Earth and the SPRING software (System of Geographic Information Processing, developed by the Brazilian National Institute of Space Research) for the image handling, thematic maps of the urban stretch of the water course were created for the representation of the most important environmental impacts identified around the Brook Tabuão. After the conclusion of the maps, it was used a function from the Spring software, that allows importing symbols to the representations and including them in the maps, in order to assist their reading and assimilation almost instantaneously by their readers. It is a characteristic of the evocative symbology, to make reference of the symbol with the subject and that it allows the reader to establish a relation between the meaning and its respective symbol that it is presented the map, therefore to the public in simple and efficient way. However, the resources used with the software SPRING were not efficient because the symbols were very simple and could offer a multiple interpretation. The alternative was to elaborate a map manually that illustrated the style most adequate of the evocative symbols to be used. Concluding the work, we perceived that the maps where the evocative symbols and the colors were used to identify the represented phenomenon, in this case the environment ambient impacts, were more efficient when transmitting its information for pupils of the Basic Education, because the symbols that illustrate the subject help the reader to prompt recognize it and identify them in the geographic space.

Full textThis research sought to analyze the current situation of cartographic disciplines, specifically the Thematic Cartographic, being taught in geography courses in public higher education institutions of the Parana State and the use of Semiology of Graphics among them, starting from the premise that the language study of graphic representation, which was taken as a methodological basis, it is applied to the contents taught in cartographical disciplines which compose the curriculum grade of Parana courses, a fact that was investigated by interviewing responsible teachers and analyzing their teaching plans. In addition, it sought to expose how this is worked in the disciplines, investigating some questions such as: Which of them are being used? What is the knowledge of teachers about this methodology? Which are the bibliographies used by them to support the Semiology of Graphics Content? How the institution structure is found and how its laboratories and software are used during the discipline? Which are the main difficulties of the students in the learning process of Semiology of Graphics its relevance from teachers opinion and if there are other methodological guidelines which teachers use beyond it? From this work, it is concluded that the Semiology of Graphics remains the current methodological that guides the understanding of language structure, the graphical representation, being essential for licensee and bachelor formation of geography science, as part of cartographic contents worked out in Geography Degree, mainly in public higher education institutions of the Parana State.

This research intends to approximate us to the tension lines that emerge between the cosmovision -understood as the whole of believes, values, customs, ways of seeing, thinking, feeling, being and relating with the world- and the academic thought, from considering a scenery composed by indigenous people who joined the Higher Education, in this case indigenous students from the Federal University of São Carlos. In this regard, are taken into account previous working experiences with indigenous communities in Colombia; hereby, are considered as reference Foucault’s and Deleuze’s thoughts to broach discussions around the Higher Education, the Mathematical [Education], the Ethnomathematics, the permanence of indigenous students in college courses; is also used the cartography formulated by Guilles Deleuze and Felix Guattari, as a device in the subjectivities production for approach of paths, territories and lines of force that go across both the university, as an institution, and indigenous people immerse in the educational system.

Full textThis study approaches the eventalization of/in Escola Municipal Porto Alegre (EPA), an open school for young people in situation of social vulnerability in the city of Porto Alegre. Under principles of cartographic, it uses narratives of teachers, students and even the researcher as subjective constructions that explain how life is woven and how school happens between lives. In order to perform this exercise of weaving and plotting concepts and practices, the following operators were used: device, event, between lives, storytelling and cartography, based on Foucauldian and Deleuzian theories. To situate the open school in time, it was used a historic plan in which the Juvenile Code and the Child and Adolescent Statute are analyzed as devices, as well as the cartographic one, which analyzes the intensity of practices, expressions, (dis)affection in the eventalization of EPA, highlighting elements that enhance the expansion, or not, of life. It questions and unveils EPA as a care device in the rationality of the state. In its fragility, of the non-place given by the intersectionality among education, health and care, its identity is known in this bit of everything. EPA survives in this non-place by the struggle and resistance in the proper time between minor and higher education, claiming a power of action that requires strengths and invention in a long history of facts of domination and oppression, mainly among children and youngsters and those made “minor” by being disadvantaged. The study seeks to discover clues built by youngsters, students and by educators regarding public policy and invention of new spaces, new ethics, aesthetics and political possibilities, and new webs that are beyond knowledge and practices in place.

Abstract: In the fields of Environmental Education and Scholar Cartography, games contribute to the process of teaching and learning of the child -- and stop being objects of entertainment -- if they are formulated with specific objectives and intentions quite clear and straightforward. In formal and non-formal education, the game encourages learning, because it may stimulates curiosity and creates a natural effort to overcome challenges. Upon these considerations, this research had as object of study the games in the teaching of Geosciences. For this, from the theoretical framework of definitions, contributions and difficulties of games in education, were analyzed games made specifically to work contents of schoolar Geography, such as Environmental Education and Cartography. These materials have a strategy for teaching the appreciation of the place. They are designed with attractive materials and easy to use dynamics, made from design computer programs based on maps and remote sensing images of the student's living space. These games include puzzles, memory games, board games and two versions of dominoes. In order to go deep into those discussions, this research aimed, through questionnaires focused on students and professionals in education, to evaluate and score the possible contributions of those materials. From such analyzes, we intended to restructure the pilot games and build materials and courses that had as their central theme the use of games in education, considering the educator's fundamental role as mediator during the application of the game and that it is up to him to conduct the activity. Because those dynamics break with the usual routines of teaching, often the teacher is not prepared to use the material. Thus, we intend to share with those professionals suggestions for contents and descriptions of procedures for the preparation of materials and for their application

Full textDuring the last decade of the 20th century until the present day, one can notice that the Basic Education in Brazil and, more specifically, the Elementary School, has experienced some advances, due to government actions, seeking the improvement of the quality of Education among its different levels. However, despite of the advances, educational politics in Brazil are still characterized by the discontinuity and centralization. Inside this national scenario, the quality of the teachers formation is still a major concern, as well as their preparation to teach the curriculum contents and, not less important, the student learning verification. In this context, School Atlases arise as didactic support resources, that allied to cartographic initiation practices and classroom exercises, allow the teaching/learning achievement of the Geography contents for each grade in the Elementary School. By proposing a methodology to produce School Atlases for the local knowledge, this Doctoral Dissertation focuses on the issue of producing didactic resources and suggests teaching practices that are adequate not only for the teacher but also for the students. Therefore, these are the goals of this work: to propose a methodology for producing School Atlases for the local knowledge; to apply the proposed methodology through the implementation of a prototype of School Atlases for the city of Sorocaba (SP); to evaluate the adequacy of the prototype in the classroom environment.

Full textSpatial thinking, comprised of concepts, representations and spatial abilities, is a cognitive activity developed in everyday living, and can be systematized through different school disciplines, mainly Geography. The comprehension of this concept and the investigation of how it can be developed and systematized in schools are critical points, involving different languages that represent the space. Considering this, we noticed the absence of references in geography-focused school activities for the development of spatial thinking. Our main objective is to propose theoretical and methodological references for the spatial knowledge of children aged between 4 and 6 years old. The research is based on the following question: Which spatial abilities and concepts can be addressed in activities aimed at developing spatial thinking in children aged 4 to 6 years old? To answer this question and achieve the main objective, the specific objectives were: a) to investigate and analyze the pertinence, possibilities and approaches regarding the spatial notions in childrens education; b) develop teaching situations based on guiding theories about spatial thinking, childrens drawing and the concept construction under a historical and cultural perspective; c) understand the patterns in childrens graphic representations; and d) analyze the childrens dialogues. Three series of activities with distinct objectives were proposed and analyzed as investigation instruments, based on the spatial thinking representation, concept, and abilities. All the activities addressed the central concept of Location. The first activity series deals specifically with the space nearby, the existence space, while the two other series are related to the geographic knowledge regarding distant aspects. In order to analyze spatial thinking expression, we narrated the main outcomes of the activities, transcribed the video recordings, and mapped the resulting data according to our interests; i.e., verify the spatial concepts and abilities. Drawing consists in a language that concretizes and reflects spatial reasoning, involving important principles of Cartography and Geography. The present research adopted the conception of childhood as a social category, and the child is the subject of the right to acquire knowledge, in this case, spatial knowledge. In this research, children are considered capable of learning, reflecting, creating, exchanging experiences, dialoguing, and teaching about the space. The analysis of the research data allowed us to conclude that drawing is part of the cartographic initiation, and words are fundamental elements that concretize the way of thinking, in this case, spatial thinking ability. In this thesis, we reaffirm the direct relationship between Geography and the development of spatial thinking, considering the very nature of this Science, and Cartography as the language used to materialize this way of thinking. The present thesis defends the development of spatial thinking in childrens education as a way to broaden the spatial knowledge and the construction of spatial concepts by the children.

Full textThe relations of similarity are everywhere, they come unexpectedly and take part in our lives determining us without our being aware or take control over them. They are powerful events that involve creation and enable engendering worlds. This research investigated the relations of similarity emerging in several situations of everyday school life involving students, teachers, professors, students and other participants of a broad and dynamic field. The study of the similarities is inspired by Walter Benjamin whose work highlights the importance of experience and mimesis as part of the process of constitution of self and access to culture. The mimetic faculty enables the identification and production of similarities and open ourselves to these relationships in the school environment, creating opportunities for transformation, bringing life and invention this place. Was undertaken the study of mimesis, of time and characters of the school universe under the emphasis of the perception of similarities. In order to accommodate the inventive and unexpected character of such processes, the cartography was chosen, method inspired in Deleuze and Guattari which presents itself as an opportunity to walk in the open and inhabit existential territories by narrowing the boundaries between knowledge and creation, subject and object, the self and the other. Field procedures consisted of observations collected in a sensitive way, in a public school in São Paulo, and in a internship in a teacher training program in Vermont (USA) that included experiences in the campus childrens school as well as in the teachers residency program. All the process was documented in field journals from which were made descriptive cutouts of the most intense and significant situations, analyzed in the form of plateaus. The plateaus are understood as territories of production of events that hosts multiple intensities that proliferate in the form of rhizome, a space that can be accessed anywhere. The analysis indicates the importance of kairos time, saturated of nows (Jetztzeit), standing as the founder of experience, and that requires an attitude of openness and readiness for his apprehension. The relations of similarities perceived in the school presents powerful and intense, and demanded certain tuning to access them and make them visible, given its elusive character. The challenge of training teachers sensitive to the recognition of similarities points the pedagogical residence as an initiative that rescues artisanal dimension teacher work, including listening, teaching materials and autobiography (life story) as important elements of this process. These findings highlight the importance of nourishing these sparks of meaning that blinks in everyday school life. They may present as a way of overcoming the harshness of reality that prevails in schools, turning it into a more creative, stimulating and supportive environment through fulfilling experiences

Full textThe objective of this research is to analyze the discursive practices presented in three curriculum documents of Physical Education from Sorocaba municipal education network and relations of power-knowledge that permeated the building process of the official curriculum, developed in 2012. This is to outline how the curriculum is inserted in a power network, supported by certain types of knowledge. For this purpose, reference, I stand up for the contributions of Foucault\'s thinking, making use of some notions such as: governmentality, statement, discursive formation, archive, apart from the formulations of curriculum studies post-critical orientation. As a methodological way I use the cartography deleuze-guattarian inspiration to state of the political actions from the Department of Education from Sorocaba and the construction of Physical Education curriculum, articulating document analysis and semi-structured interviews to collect data. I also use contributions from Foucault\'s discourse analysis to scrutinize the discourses presented in the Physical Education curriculum texts. In the first investigative step, the cartography indicates that some of the Education department from Sorocaba political actions implemented mainly by the third sector, have connections with neoliberal ideas. It also points out that the trajectory of the official curriculum construction suggests a depreciation of physical education compared to other disciplines that make up the curriculum of that school system and curriculum construction that relied mainly on non democratic decisions, drawing on positions advantage in power relations due to the institutional hierarchy. In the analysis of statements of curricular device, which constitute the second investigative step, I notice that both of the curricular organization in procedural, conceptual and attitudinal dimensions and the curriculum organization by competences supported by scientific discourse of educational psychology are taken as the nuclear curricular documents investigated. The official curriculum, the statement regarding curriculum management of discursive strategies are used to control and rule the conduct of teachers, making them docile and productive in their actions. Yet, seeking for dispelling the differences and oppositions in favor of hybridity discourse displaces some manifestations and bodily practices as optional content, framing them as well, from the perspective of tourism curriculum. Finally, the order of knowledges that legitimate texts curricular device indicates a field of coexistences, derived from the discursive formation of educational psychology and uncritical theories of physical education curriculum, designing subjects entrepreneurs themselves.

Full textThis study approaches the technology insertion issue in a public school of basic education from the perspective of the modulation relation of this socio-technical network that includes cognition, technical objects and the institution, as a result of a resolution of a problematic transaction that it updates. Therefore, the distribution process of portable computers (netbooks) to a school community in an elementary school was accompanied, observing some of the ethical, aesthetic and politicians effects which emerged from the meeting of the individuals with technology. From the cartographic method we evidenced which were the effects that took place at the meeting of the school community with the digital technology originated from the implications of different public policies that agencied constituted the establishment of the insertion of a technological project. Thus, we observed that modulation of a network that includes among other implications, the public policies on education, the power of indeterminacy of a digital technology and the individuals in a concrete and embodied cognition conception, occurs when, in this agency are produced new ways of making, in which knowledge and reality appear inseparable. In the context of this research, this inseparability, occurs when technology is moved from an instrumental and utilitarian perspective to a position of ethical action and authoring. So, to put in debate, some resolutions which the individuals were finding from their embodied and located experience, we noted the encouraging of teaching and learning practices, which allowed the allocation of new senses to the making process of faculty and students. We emphasize that resignification of reality, allowed to retain a recognitive policy and also generate new ways of knowing in a politics of invention, redefining some limits of this network on individual, technical and institutional plans.

Full textBased on Massimo Montanari's view of food as culture this thesis aims to follow through a rural cartography the changes of food culturallandscapes in the city of Tio Hugo/RS and its surroundings. This dissertation is presented in two stages, the first of them shows it through a mise-en-place metaphor in which the basic concepts for this research are pre-prepared in addition to the strategies used for such process. The second moment is comprised by the incursion in the studied territory through the narrative of women settlers and their families as well as composed by showing the analysis made by the cartographer in what is circumscribed in the field of Cultural Studies in Education. The focus of this paper is directed to some cultural transformations in the techniques used in the food preparation, in the selection of ingredients, in the time spent in the act of cooking, in knowledges passed on, in the urbanisation and industrialisation process in the rural area. This essay core is the space-time journeys and the cultural vicissitudes. The gol of this work is to problematize through these grounds how a fast-forward perception of time has been created, correlated to some aspects of use of technologies, to the globalisation phenomena, to te relations between production and consumption, to the territory that emerges as gastronomy, to the memory and the creation of traditions.

This research is a feminine writing that seeks to map the path of an educator and researcher involved in the search for an understanding of the politics of subjectivation that cross us, relating them to the education's territory. From a perspective of the chronogenetics (ROLNIK, 1993), memories were recovered that contained in themselves elements representative of the restlessness that moved the research and the composition of its intentions. The methodological question was constructed from the dialogue between the concepts of rhizome (DELEUZE & GUATARRI, 1995), plurality of reasons (PETERS, 2000) and cartography (KASTRUP, STEPS, SCOTLAND, 2012; ROLNIK, 2013). We sought to make the research an experience of the thought exercise, acceptance "feeling" and creation of ways and lines of escape in favor of expanding the potency of life in the territory of education and in the construction of other ways of being in the world that contemplate our needs and affections.

Full textThe author of this thesis believes that Geography Education and School Cartography have both great importance for the development of spatial thinking among students in K-12. This dimension of intelligence is crucial for citizenship and for the practice of many professional and daily activities. Considering such a framework, the main goal of this research is to assess the contribution of Geography Education and School Cartography in Brazilian middle school to enhance students capacity to think spatially in situations that encompass spatial representations, specially cartographic ones, in geographical contexts. To answer this question we decided to betake the field research known as spatial thinking, developed mostly in the U.S. during the last two decades. As a consequence we adopted the definition of spatial thinking that was presented in the report of the National Research Council (2006), which has become the main reference in the field: Spatial thinkingone form of thinking is based on a constructive amalgam of three elements: concepts of space, tools of representation, and processes of reasoning (NRC, 2006, ix). Our methodology was based on two interconnected paths. We analyzed the three most adopted Geography textbooks collections for the four years of Brazilian middle school (6th to 9th grades) with the purpose of assessing in which extent the exercises in those books are capable of fostering students spatial thinking. In order to stablish a comparison with Brazilian textbooks we also assessed a French textbook collection destined to the same grade levels. To perform such an assessment, we used the Taxonomy of Spatial Thinking (Jo and Bednarz, 2009) designed for this particular purpose and replied by Scholz et al. (2014). The study identified not only the ratio of questions demanding spatial thinking but also the processes of reasoning involved. The second methodological path was based on the use of the Spatial Thinking Ability Test (STAT), designed by Lee and Bednarz (2012). We have administered the STAT to 268 students of six different Brazilian schools, all of them in the end of the 9th grade. After organizing all the data, we compared the Brazilian results with those of two international studies where the same test was administered: one school in the United States (LEE and BEDNARZ, 2012) and three schools in Ruanda (TOMASZEWSKI et al., 2014). Our analysis included both the global results of students overall performance in the test and their accomplishments regarding the eight modes of thinking spatially defined by the authors of the STAT. Our final conclusions were the results of the comparison between the outcomes obtained from our two methodological paths.

This work sought to chart the way teaching practices are perceived from the look of a group of students from the Federal Institute of Pernambuco – IFPE. It was intended, through an interventional approach and using Sociodrama, to stimulate participants to dramatize their relationships and experiences at the school environment. Adolescent students attending Electronic course at secondary school level in Campus Recife (IFPE) participated the field research. Most of these students live in the outskirts of the city and have poor socioeconomic conditions. The work was developed in groups and the choice of the interventional sociodramatic mode seemed pertinent to the extent that would make the (re) signification of the relationship student-student, student-teacher, teacher-teacher. It is believed that the understanding of this experience, as well as the comprehension of the institutional and personal conflicts and the motivation to create spaces of dialogue consist on a powerful way to meaningful learning within the academic community. The cartographic method was the ground on which the sociodramatic process took place, allowing to trace the students’ subjective settings concerning their learning processes, as well as the place of the teacher and of the institution in their daily school life. Sociodramatic sessions unfolded a needy and worrying school reality. During the meetings, It was realized how the decision to opt for a technical course was influenced by the family. However, during the drama performances, it became notorious that these families do not take care of the students throughout the course. They feel the pressure of the family and the teachers’ demands. On the other hand, most teachers come from the “hard” areas of Science and do not have a licentiate degree in teaching, which is seen as a problem by the students. For them, the absence of didactics undermines the teachinglearning process. Most of the teachers are presented as incomprehensible, rigorous and extremely demanding in terms of marks. These elements lead us to propose a thorough review, less focused on syllabus and more careful with intrasubjective and affective aspects. As well as the supply of spaces, including sociodramatic sessions, for students and teachers to talk and (re) think about their daily school life.
