Full textNautical charts which are traditionally presented to the various navigators are based on the cumulative display of diverse facts which are often result in a visual obstruction and undeniable reading difficulties. It is particulary obvious for yachtmen who, in their great majority, do not have the needful nautical knowledge for a good use of the documents suggested to them. This is the reason why it seems interesting to search particular methods to work out a pleasure craft chart specifically designed for yachting; it is all the more than 600 000 small-crafts of that type which scour the french seashore today. In that purpose, it is at first absolutely necessary to know perfectly the conventional solutions which are used by the national hydrographic services. They generally consist in instituttions in charge of the conception and making of nautical charts, taking no account, however of answering amateur sailors particular needs. Then one has to know what is to be understood by the word "yachting" and to try to define the criteria approriate for that type of sailing and also know the particularities of the ships in question and the knowledges of the sailors who use them. After these investigations, it is easier to be concerned with questions such as the visual perception and optimum conditions of the use of the yachting chart by the yachtmen. Therefore it appears judicious to attempt to work out on new and different research basis a document intented to yachtmen considering their needs, their ship and their way of navigation fundamentally different from professional sailor's one

Full textThis thesis is an investigation into the work of michel leiris, a work the autor himself sees as an unfinished selfportrait. The thesis adopts neither a historical nor a merelly literary approach, but is based on categories of a semiologic-deconstructionist kind. Since all leiris' work is an attempt at autobiographic reconstruction, an attempt which he sees as bound to failure, the thesis attaches a central role to the analysis of writing and contents. Memory, in fact, makes writing possible but, at the same time, stands as the limit of autobiography. Writing is seen as a formal apparatus where the event is lost, as leveling of all psychical stages, thus as a loss of identity. Paradoxically the end of self-portrait is realized in its incompleteness. Together with the interwined categories of time-memory-autobiography, the thesis stresses freudian unheimliche, which looms in his work in a disquieting and unresolved fashion. Conscience is alwais veiled, representation of the self and the world is never granted; the act of writing is alwais submitted to chance, to what has not surfaced yet, but which should be unveiled. Leiris is well aware of this and he feels guilty. He acknowledges responsability, although he tries to delay its effects. The confession gains value trough delay and reticence

Full textCarry in/ Carry out (CICO) policies have been used in front-country parks for a long time. According to the National Park Service (2013), “trash free parks” are ones that implement carry in and carry out policies; the manager of a park removes all or most of the garbage cans in hope of having park patrons carry out the refuse that they generate and dispose of it at home. Managers use this policy as a way to reduce the costs associated with hauling trash out of the park, and to deter patrons from leaving garbage in the park. Reducing the amount of trash clean up also gives the park staff the ability to focus on other operational needs and park projects. This study looks at the effectiveness of carry in/ carry out policies in federal parks, state parks, and NGO-managed lands by interviewing sixteen managers (n=16) of these areas in the Northeast. This exploratory study used grounded theory. Two strategies were used to collect data (online survey and phone interviews). Data was analyzed by coding. Results suggest that the number one barrier for getting visitors to comply with CICO policies is a lack of awareness about littering. The most common benefit for using a CICO system is to save money, followed by creating public awareness about the items brought into parks. This study found that 67% of NGO managers and 75% of federal managers think that CICO is an effective policy; state park managers were mixed on whether CICO policies are in fact effective. The one thing that federal, state, and NGO agencies agree on is that there is always litter to be picked up by staff or volunteers. The amount of that litter varied from park to park, and there does not seem to be one strategy that works for everyone.

Abstract: In this work we describe some problems concerned with the development of an electronic nautical chart prototype and the related digital image processing procedures. The first part presents a brief description of the cartography history and theory. The methods applied to solve navigational and planning problems are also presented together with the electronic nautical chart operational interface. The second part describes the data model and the basic system's operations. The model is given according to a relational database which stores the geographic and the operational data. The escription of a digital image processing system, defined to use the regular printed nautical charts as a data source for the electronic system, is presented in the third part. The emphasis is on the processing of scanned nautical charts to obtain the geographical coordinates of the different components. An example considering the different procedures and operations is given in the fourth part, followed by some conclusions and final comments

CAPES
Conversational markers are signs that tie text as a structure of interpersonal interaction and ensure the continued development of dialogue, often operating as discursive deists that punctuate the conversational text. They are mostly devoid of semantic content and syntactic role, and irrelevant in the interpretation of the topic; However, are essential and recurrent in the construction of oral discourse. However, this resource that is usually used in orality has become a constant in the textual productions, written, developed by students of the ninth grade of a public school in Puxinanã / PB. For this reason, the present research has the general objective to investigate the lexical use practices of these students in argumentative texts in relation to the use of conversational markers. And in the specific plan, our objective is to elaborate didactic strategies to ameliorate the use of these linguistic resources in texts that require the formal use of the language, like the argumentative letter. In order to guide this action research we consider the following hypothesis: in a public school, in the municipality of Puxinanã-PB, conversational markers are used in texts at random because students do not realize that such records are inadequate for the practice of formal texts. In order to materialize this study we use the methodology of the didactic sequence of Dolz and Schneuwly (2004) and use the following procedures: initial reflection on the genre "argumentative letter"; An initial production proposal; Identification of the types of conversational markers used in students' texts; Intervention proposal through three modules to ease the use of these records; Final production proposal and analysis of results. As a theoretical support to guide this research we take into account the studies of the Portuguese Language NCP (1997), the conceptions about the use of the language of Urbano (1999), Bortoni-Ricardo (2004), Marcuschi (2007), among others. Analysis of this practice observed that the student makes use of conversational markers in a sharp way in his text, sometimes influenced by the media and in others randomly, which was minimized after the execution of this didactic sequence.

Full textThe mining sector is a fundamental part of the Peruvian economy, as well as an important part of the country's history. The sector has maintained a high expectation of growth that is reflected in the results of recent years, which has also resulted in a consistent growth in the purchase of equipment that supports this industry. Mining operations and projects are mostly executed in the highlands of the country, facing social conflicts that have resulted in higher costs and even paralyzing the development of some important projects. It is essential that companies linked to the sector improve their competitiveness by offering lower costs, working towards environmental sustainability and capacity to adapt to changes. This thesis has developed the Strategic Plan for Carte Mining Perú following the sequential model proposed by D’Alessio (2015). The company is constituted as a regional office of the Mining division of the Carte group having its headquarters in Glasgow, Scotland. The headquarters in Perú were founded in 1986, having as main activities the design, manufacture and provision of support services for the machinery used in the mining and mineral processing sector. The main opportunities is represented by the greenfield and brownfield type mining projects such as the expansion of Santa María, the expansion of Toquepala, Quellaveco, Mina Justa, Quecher Main, San Rafael and Toromocho. The strategies of the plan and objectives are aimed at accomplishing the vision of Carte Mining Perú by 2029: to be the leading company in the marketing of capital goods and services for mining. Sales have had a positive evolution; however, EBITDA has been decreasing mainly due to the new product lines that are being introduced in the market. The methodology used for strategic planning led to an external and internal analysis of the company, and long and short-term objectives towards achieving the vision, and the final chapter presents the guidelines for implementation, as well as the policies, resources and recommendations to specify the process.

Full textThe digital revolution is radically changing the way we produce, access and use information. The amount of information available on an ever evolving World Wide Web is questioning the very nature of a document as a vector for information, especially in its digital form. As part of this mutation, integrated semantic tools must be developed to address three essential aspects of the question: indexing documents, browsing through large collections, and producing those documents. Such tools must be based on a deep understanding of the intricate relation between the physical form of a document and the informative content it carries, which is bound to the context in which they appear. Based on those assertions, we propose a study of the geographical map in the multi-modal document. The goal is to define a theoretically and technically consistent approach to exploiting thematic maps in the geographical documents. We propose an general overview of the context of our study, namely the geographic information and the composite document. We then develop a content model for the thematic map, based on a semiological approach. We finally present a software framework implementing the various concepts and models that have been discussed

Full textWhat role does cartographic imagination play in the creative process ? This study is part of a field of research that, for nearly thirty years, accompanies the numerous and regular uses of maps in the contemporary visual arts. But it offers a unique method that places the imagination at the center of the relationship between the map and work of art, by thinking through the historical periods and disciplinary frameworks. The proposed process thus journeys through works of contemporary art and historical maps, through literary fiction and youth albums, or through musical scores, as another way to understanding the meaning of map making. The question raised in the first part is thus definitional : this is not about the significance of a map, but rather the significance of map making. Map making is representation, according to standard definitions. Yet we must keep in mind how the imagination has a place in the mapping process that builds territories in an effect of representa¬tion. The second part is also regarding definition : what is imaginary cartography ? And the answer will change from the term construction to that of foundation. Imagining a map would be giving oneself the power to create : a territory, a world, or a place for a work of art to emerge. The last part com¬pletes the meaning of the term foundation : map making would provide the space for a world that remains to be invented, or even a work of art to be achieved. And again, because of imagination, the very use of a map could be revealed as a practice in itself, and could join in the movement of creation

Full textThis study has begun with an important observation : organizations are more and more submerged by information whose management is necessary for their activities. As a matter of fact, the globalization of flows and services has created new needs and then new activities have been developed : strategic intelligence, innovation management, knowledge capitalization, intellectual and human capital management, economic intelligence, etc. Insofar as more and more information are collected, the enterprise's informational space does not stop to increase. In such a context, the future of organizations goes through the control of their informational space. The control of a space is a universal problem which concerns mankind since its origin. Cartography results from this problem. It makes it possible to visualize a space for a better apprehension. Each map plays the role of an external medium for mind in order to amplify the user's cognition. The study of cartography has revealed that building maps from the informational space of organizations requires to carry out paradigms of representation, visualization and interaction. This process is now well known and controlled. However it meets only partially our needs. Indeed, it remains two problems to solve to reach that point: how to take into account the domain's semantics and how to select the different paradigms in order to provide the most suitable maps for users ? Faced with this two-fold problem, we have defined a new cartography paradigm for building maps which fit to the needs of organizations. We have named it "semantic cartography". This new cartography paradigm relies on our different propositions and realizations. Our proposition has been validated through different industrial applications, e. G. Content management systems and competency management systems
