Abstract:
Como tentativa de elucidar os fatores ambientais que controlam a plasticidade fenotípica floral de Catasetum fimbriatum Lindley, iniciaram-se estudos climáticos da espécie, com o acompanhamento de 45 indivíduos divididos em três tratamentos, com quinze indivíduos cada um. O primeiro tratamento foi instalado em casa-de-vegetação, onde predominou intensa luminosidade (1300 a 1900 µmol/m²s), altas temperaturas (38ºC) e baixa umidade relativa do ar (35%). O segundo tratamento foi instalado em ripado e submetido à baixa intensidade luminosa (400 a 650 µmol/m²s), menor temperatura (17ºC) e a uma umidade relativa do ar mais elevada em relação ao primeiro (85%). O terceiro tratamento foi mantido nas condições ambientais naturais (intensidade luminosa entre 500 a 800 µmol/m²s, temperaturas de 23ºC e umidade relativa do ar de 65%). Ao final do experimento, pôde-se constatar a grande adaptabilidade da espécie aos diferenciados ambientes, mediante formação de ecótipos.

Abstract:
Este trabalho objetivou avaliar os efeitos da aplicação de óleo de fúsel, comparativamente a vinhaça e flegmaça, sobre o desenvolvimento e a composição química de plantas de guanxuma (Sida rhombifolia), capim-braquiária (Brachiaria decumbens) e cana-de-açúcar (variedade RB72454), cultivadas simultaneamente em casa de vegetação. As concentrações de 12,5; 25,0; 50,0; e 100,0% (v/v) de cada subproduto e a testemunha (água) foram aplicadas (numa taxa equivalente a 150 m³ ha-1) no solo dos vasos (22 L), contendo uma planta de cana-de-açúcar (13 cm de altura) e 100 sementes de cada planta daninha. O delineamento foi o inteiramente casualizado, com 13 tratamentos e 4 repetições, em esquema fatorial 3 x 4 (três tipos de resíduos e quatro concentrações), e uma testemunha adicional com água. O óleo de fúsel inibiu a emergência de Sida rhombifolia e Brachiaria decumbens e matou a cana-de-açúcar. A vinhaça e a flegmaça prejudicaram a emergência e o desenvolvimento de B. decumbens, bem como o de S. rhombifolia, mas não o da cana-de-açúcar.

Abstract:
El trabajo tuvo como objetivo evaluar la sensibilidad del método del ultrasonido en la determinación del grado de sanidad de las piezas estructurales en madera que compone la fachada de la casa grande de la Hacienda Cachoeira do Taepe, Surubim, Pernambuco, Brasil. Se evaluaron siete pilares y cada pieza fueron marcados puntos a partir de la base cada 30 centímetros en el sentido longitudinal y midió el tiempo de propagación de la onda en cada punto marcado. El pilar uno, presentó lecturas con valores inferiores a 1000 m/s, mereciendo atención en la parte inferior y central de la pieza, necesitando reparaciones puntuales. En el pilar cinco se verificaron valores superiores a 2000 m/s casi en toda la extensión de la pieza. Los resultados apuntaron a la sensibilidad del método del ultrasonido en la evaluación del grado de degradación y comprometimiento de las piezas de madera utilizadas en estructuras y la consiguiente toma de decisión en cuanto a la restauración de la edificación, tomada por el Instituto del Patrimonio Histórico y Artístico Nacional (IPHAN).

Abstract:
Context. The Common Astronomy Software Application (CASA) software suite, which is a state-of-the-art package for radio astronomy, can now reduce very long baseline interferometry (VLBI) data with the recent addition of a fringe fitter. Aims. Here, we present the Radboud PIpeline for the Calibration of high Angular Resolution Data (rPICARD), which is an open-source VLBI calibration and imaging pipeline built on top of the CASA framework. The pipeline is capable of reducing data from different VLBI arrays. It can be run non-interactively after only a few non-default input parameters are set and delivers high-quality calibrated data. CPU scalability based on a message-passing interface (MPI) implementation ensures that large bandwidth data from future arrays can be processed within reasonable computing times. Methods. Phase calibration is done with a Schwab–Cotton fringe fit algorithm. For the calibration of residual atmospheric effects, optimal solution intervals are determined based on the signal-to-noise ratio (S/N) of the data for each scan. Different solution intervals can be set for different antennas in the same scan to increase the number of detections in the low S/N regime. These novel techniques allow rPICARD to calibrate data from different arrays, including high-frequency and low-sensitivity arrays. The amplitude calibration is based on standard telescope metadata, and a robust algorithm can solve for atmospheric opacity attenuation in the high-frequency regime. Standard CASA tasks are used for CLEAN imaging and self-calibration. Results. In this work we demonstrate the capabilities of rPICARD by calibrating and imaging 7 mm Very Long Baseline Array (VLBA) data of the central radio source in the M 87 galaxy. The reconstructed jet image reveals a complex collimation profile and edge-brightened structure, in accordance with previous results. A potential counter-jet is detected that has 10% of the brightness of the approaching jet. This constrains jet speeds close to the radio core to about half the speed of light for small inclination angles.

Foram realizados dois experimentos com plantas de tangerineira 'Ponkan'e da limeira ácida 'Tahiti' enxertadas sobre o limoeiro 'Cravo', e cultivadas em vasos de cinco litros. O estresse hídrico foi aplicado em plantas conduzidas em câmara de crescimento, sob temperatura controlada (25º C dia/ 20º C noite) e fotoperíodo de 16 horas de luz, com fluxo de fótons fotossintético (FFF) de aproximadamente 170 µmol m-2 s-1. E em plantas conduzidas em casa de vegetação, com temperaturas médias variando de 9,9º C (mínima) a 29,0º C (máxima) e FFF de 427 a 803 µmol m-2 s-1. O estresse hídrico não induziu o florescimento da tangerineira 'Ponkan' e da limeira ácida 'Tahiti' nas condições da câmara de crescimento. No entanto, favoreceu o aumento do florescimento na tangerineira 'Poncã' e na limeira ácida 'Tahiti', nas condições da casa de vegetação. O potencial hídrico foliar reduziu com o estresse hídrico imposto às plantas de tangerineira 'Ponkan' e a limeira ácida 'Tahiti', entretanto foi variável para as cultivares. Os maiores valores foram observados para a limeira 'Tahiti'.

Abstract:
AbstractNowcasts (short-term forecasts) of heavy rainfall causing flash floods are highly valuable in densely populated urban areas. In the Collaborative Adaptive Sensing of the Atmosphere (CASA) project, a high-resolution X-band radar network was deployed in the Dallas–Fort Worth (DFW) metroplex. The Dynamic and Adaptive Radar Tracking of Storms (DARTS) method was developed as a part of the CASA nowcasting system. In this method, the advection field is determined in the spectral domain using the discrete Fourier transform. DARTS was recently extended to include a filtering scheme for suppressing small-scale precipitation features that have low predictability. Building on the earlier work, Stochastic DARTS (S-DARTS), a probabilistic extension of DARTS, is developed and tested using the CASA DFW radar network. In this method, the nowcasts are stochastically perturbed in order to simulate uncertainties. Two novel features are introduced in S-DARTS. First, the scale filtering and perturbation based on an autoregressive model are done in the spectral domain in order to achieve high computational efficiency. Second, this methodology is extended to modeling the temporal evolution of the advection field. The performance and forecast skill of S-DARTS are evaluated with different precipitation intensity thresholds and ensemble sizes. It is shown that S-DARTS can produce reliable probabilistic nowcasts in the CASA DFW domain with 250-m spatial resolution up to 45 min for lower precipitation intensities (below 2 mm h−1). For higher intensities (above 5 mm h−1), adequate skill can be obtained up to 15 min.

Abstract:
A new β-class carbonic anhydrase was cloned and purified from the filamentous ascomycete Sordaria macrospora, CAS3. This enzyme has a higher catalytic activity compared to the other two such enzymes from this fungus, CAS1 and CAS2, which were reported earlier, with the following kinetic parameters: kcat of (7.9 ± 0.2) × 105 s−1, and kcat/Km of (9.5 ± 0.12) × 107 M−1∙s−1. An inhibition study with a panel of sulfonamides and one sulfamate was also performed. The most effective CAS3 inhibitors were benzolamide, brinzolamide, dichlorophnamide, methazolamide, acetazolamide, ethoxzolamide, sulfanilamide, methanilamide, and benzene-1,3-disulfonamide, with KIs in the range of 54–95 nM. CAS3 generally shows a higher affinity for this class of inhibitors compared to CAS1 and CAS2. As S. macrospora is a model organism for the study of fruiting body development in fungi, these data may be useful for developing antifungal compounds based on CA inhibition.

Abstract:
Neste trabalho, objetivou-se avaliar os efeitos de omissões de nutrientes na produção de matéria seca e nos parâmetros de crescimento do bastão-do-imperador. O trabalho foi realizado em casa de vegetação da área experimental do Departamento de Ciência do Solo da Universidade Federal de Lavras (Lavras, MG), no período de janeiro de 2007 a janeiro de 2008. O delineamento experimental foi inteiramente casualizados com quatro repetições e oito tratamentos: Solução Hoagland & Arnon completa, soluções nutritivas com as omissões de N, de P, de K, de Ca, de Mg, de S e de B. Foram avaliadas a altura das plantas, diâmetro das hastes, número de hastes, número de folhas por hastes e volume da raiz. Posteriormente, as plantas foram divididas em folhas, hastes, rizoma e raiz para determinação da massa de matéria seca de cada parte. A omissão de nutrientes afetou os parâmetros de crescimento das plantas e a produção de matéria seca. Observou-se que o bastão-do-imperador mostrou-se mais exigente em B, K, N, P e S na fase inicial de crescimento do que em Ca e Mg. A redução da matéria seca total das plantas foi influenciada na seguinte ordem: B > K > N > P > S > Mg > Ca.

Abstract:
Objetiva-se neste trabalho o estabelecimento de protocolo para cultura de tecidos vegetais (importante ferramenta para conservação de germoplasma e para manutenção da espécie ameaçada) com a espécie Blutaparon portulacoides (A. St.-Hil.) Mears, esta espécie ocorre entre o limite superior da maré alta e as dunas e está ameaçada pela ação antrópica. Para tanto proceder-se-á adequação de metodologia dos ensaios biológicos e de procedimentos bioquímicos e da biotecnologia vegetal. O material vegetal foi coletado em seu habitat natural na faixa litorânea em duas localidades: Maricá (RJ) e Ubatuba (SP), em seguida foi cultivado em casa de vegetação, sendo assim uma fonte de material vegetal para todo o trabalho. Explantes (segmentos do caule e as porções mais apicais) foram coletados e submetidos a experimentos in vitro, eles foram distribuídos em 6 variações do meio de cultura M&S (MURASHIGE; SKOOG, 1962), para cada variação o experimento contou com 30 repetições, foram avaliados o desenvolvimento da zona pilífera e o comprimento médio das raízes principais. Sendo que o tratamento com 40g/L de Sacarose e metade dos macro-nutrientes do meio padrão M&S esteve presente entre todos os grupos que apresentaram melhor resultado dentro do experimento, sendo assim uma alternativa para a micropropagação desta espécie.

Esta disserta??o tem como objetivo investigar de que maneira a midiatiza??o do cotidiano protagonizada pela programa??o do canal 4, de Currais Novos (RN), contribui para a constru??o da identidade local. O canal pertence ? primeira operadora de TV a Cabo do Norte/Nordeste brasileiro, a Sidy?s TV a Cabo, criada em 1992 pelo empres?rio Siderley Menezes. Pela empiria, percebemos que a rela??o de constru??o e de apropria??o da identidade ? de mutualidade: o canal 4 se apropria da identidade curraisnovense para transmitir o seu conte?do ao ponto que o seu conte?do tamb?m contribui para a constru??o identit?ria local. Tomamos como base o m?todo de estudo de caso (YIN, 2005), partindo de uma pesquisa bibliogr?fica que abordou, especialmente, os conceitos de midiatiza??o, cotidiano, m?dia local e identidade. A fim de otimizar as evid?ncias colhidas com a empiria, a metodologia teve como suporte a triangula??o de dados, obtidos atrav?s de tr?s t?cnicas: entrevistas em profundidade (DUARTE, 2012), observa??o participante (PERUZZO, 2012) e documenta??o. Trazemos tamb?m uma breve linha do tempo sobre a chegada da TV a Cabo no Brasil, abarcamos os tra?os hist?ricos e econ?micos da cidade de Currais Novos (RN), al?m dos detalhes acerca da implementa??o e consolida??o da Sidy?s TV a Cabo na cidade. Por fim, esta disserta??o aponta a necessidade de pesquisas midi?ticas mais aprofundadas nesta regi?o, contemplando, principalmente, todos os canais televisivos com conte?do local e de que forma eles reconfiguram a din?mica social daqueles que vivem em cidades de pequeno porte.
This dissertation has as its main objective, to investigate in which way the mediatization of everyday life in Currais Novos (RN) by local channel 4 contributes to the construction of local identity. The channel belongs to the first cable TV network in the North/Northeast regions of Brazil, Sidy?s TV a Cabo, created in 1992 by entrepreneur Siderley Menezes. Based on empiricism, we realized that the relationship responsible for identity construction and appropriation is of a mutuality nature: channel 4 appropriates itself of Currais Novos?s identity to transmit its content to the point that its content also contributes construct local identity. The method of choice was case study (YIN, 2005), starting with a bibliographic inquiry approaching specifically the concepts of mediatization, everyday life, local media and identity. In order to optimize the empirically collected evidences, the methodology was supported by data triangulation, obtained through three distinct techniques: in-depth interviews (DUARTE, 2012), participant observation (PERUZZO, 2012) and documentation. A brief timeline, explaining the arrival of cable TV in Brazil is presented, as well as the historic and economic traits of Currais Novos (RN), and the details of Sidy?s TV a Cabo?s implementation and consolidation in the city. Finally, this paper points to the necessity of more in-depth media researches in the region, specially contemplating all the local content television channels and in which way they reconfigure the social dynamics of small town residents.

This work aims to report the result of a search relating to the Fiscal Council of a Health Plan corporation, in a medical work cooperative system, in S??o Paulo state, considering two periods of time: before and after of hiring a specialized technical advice for assisting this inspection and control organ. The intention was to analyze what the extent this advice has contributed to the performance of the Fiscal Council. For this, were used the data based on minutes of the organ meetings occurred in the years 2003 to 2004 (before) and 2005 to 2006 (after), an interview with the contracted technical adviser and also the data achieved through a questionnaire applied to two groups of Council members, before and after the technical advice, for knowing how it was developed and its results. The search is a case study of incorporated type, supported by a protocol, being used for that an information triangulation with the document analysis, the interview with the adviser and the questionnaire data. It was used the Cluster Analysis to identify and group the differences and similarities of the groups of council members opinions. The results pointed out the hiring of an independent technical advice contributed for the Fiscal Council performance, providing good Corporate Management practices.
Este trabalho relata o resultado da pesquisa com o Conselho Fiscal de uma operadora de planos de sa??de, na modalidade cooperativa de trabalho m??dico, no Estado de S??o Paulo, considerando dois momentos de tempo: antes e ap??s a contrata????o de uma assessoria especializada para assistir este ??rg??o de fiscaliza????o e controle. O objetivo foi analisar em que medida esta assessoria contribuiu para a atua????o do Conselho Fiscal. Foram usadas como fontes de coleta de informa????es as atas de reuni??es do ??rg??o entre os anos de 2003 a 2004 (antes) e 2005 a 2006 (ap??s), uma entrevista com o assessor contratado, e os dados colhidos com um question??rio aplicado aos dois grupos de Conselheiros, antes e ap??s a assessoria, para um levantamento sobre como a assessoria foi desenvolvida, e seus resultados. A pesquisa ?? um estudo de caso do tipo incorporado, apoiado em um protocolo, e para a qual realizou-se a triangula????o das informa????es obtidas na an??lise documental, entrevista realizada e os dados obtidos com o question??rio. Foi usada a An??lise de Clusters para identificar e agrupar diferen??as e similaridades de opini??es entre os grupos de Conselheiros. Os resultados apontaram que a contrata????o da assessoria contribuiu na atua????o do Conselho Fiscal, proporcionando boas pr??ticas de Governan??a Corporativa.

Notre préoccupation essentielle dans cette thèse consacrée à la lecture comparative entre le théoricien viennois Hans Kelsen et l’auteur américain Ronald Dworkin était de discuter de la question de la neutralité axiologique dans le droit. Notre attachement à la confrontation entre Hans Kelsen et Ronald Dworkin relève de ce fait de la posture prééminente et quasi « sacerdotale » de ces deux théoriciens-savants dans la pensée juridique. Ils auront influencé fortement la discipline au point qu’il est difficile d’offrir une réflexion juridique d’envergure sans convoquer ces deux auteurs. La qualité des travaux, la cohérence logique et une architectonique juridique soutenue par la puissance rationnelle ont achevé de consacrer Kelsen et Dworkin comme des maitres à penser dans l’espace discursif consacré aux problématiques juridiques ou judiciaires. En soumettant notre interrogation principicielle à l’argumentation et aux théorisations pour le moins disjonctives de ces deux penseurs nous pensions vouer à notre entreprise une éminente facture universitaire. Lire Kelsen et Dworkin relevait pour nous des préférences intellectuelles que crédibilisent l’exemplaire facture de leurs productions en la matière, souscrivant à la logique d’un travail caractérisé par une recherche de compréhension plus explicite de la relation entre le droit et la morale en s’appuyant sur un vocabulaire spécifique, des analyses rigoureuses et des théories originales à forte saveur philosophique et critique. Que ce soit la stricte analyse du droit en lui-même dans laquelle la science pure sous la plume de Kelsen se donne pour ambition de soumettre l’appareil juridique en sa structure comme en son fonctionnement à une analyse rigoureuse héritée du criticisme kantien ou du système dworkinien professant une complétude du droit qui culmine dans le droit –intégrité, l’étude de ces deux savants possède une valeur didactique et épistémologique que nous avions tenter d’élucider. En confrontant ainsi Dworkin et Kelsen il nous a été donné de mesurer l’influence d’une utilisation des principes supra juridiques dans le droit positif et l’inflexion que subit le positivisme à partir d’une telle posture intellectuelle:. . /. .
Our essential preoccupation in this thesis focused on the comparative reading between the Viennese theorician Hans Kelsen and the American author Ronald Dworkin was to discuss on the issue of axiological neutrality in law. Our attachment to confrontation between Hans Klesen and Ronald Dworkin is due their pertinent and almost “priestly” posture in the legal thought. These two authors have such influence over the subject that one can hardly offer any serious reflexion without appealing to them. The quality of their works, the logical coherence and a legal organization of work strengthened by rational power have given Kelsen and Dworking the upper hand in the field of legal and judicial matters. By submitting our questioning to the argumentation ond theorizations somehow disjunctive of these two thinkers, we thought we had offered an eminent University value. Reading Kelsen and Dworking was motivated by our intellectual preferences, credibilized by the exemplary quality of their productions in the subject, subscribing to the logic work characterized a more explicit study of the relationship between law and moral, making use a specific vocabulary, rigorous analysis and original theories connected to philosophy and critics. The strict analysis of law within itself in which pure science according to Kelsen gives itself the ambition of the legal apparatus in its structure as well as its functioning to a rigorous analysis inherited from Kant’s critics and Dworkin’s system professing fullness of law that towers above law- integrity, the study of these two learned men has a didactic and epistemological value that we have tempted to clarify. By confronting Dworkin to Kelsen we had the opportunity of assessing the influence of the use of most legal principles in positive law and inflexion suffered by positivism from such and intellectual posture. . . /. .

As dinâmicas que se estabelecem na cidade contemporânea – lugares abandonados, áreas em regeneração, novas centralidades – causam espaços de indefinição no tecido urbano. Os terrenos vagos são excelentes laboratórios de teste de soluções adaptivas para o desenvolvimento das cidades. A área adjacente ao Vale de Chelas apresenta-se como um desses lugares expectantes – uma área em regeneração com um importante sistema verde e hídrico, situada na parte oriental da cidade de Lisboa, onde ainda resistem grandes equipamentos fabris desactivados. Sendo a habitação um dos maiores problemas da cidade de Lisboa hoje – especificamente, a habitação acessível – e concentrando-se nas freguesias da zona Oriental o número mais elevado de indivíduos sem-abrigo em toda a cidade, propõe-se a reconversão do equipamento industrial da fábrica Tinturaria Portugália, numa perspectiva combinada de reinserção social e incentivo ao desenvolvimento local. Apresenta-se o projecto para um pólo híbrido de habitação temporária e espaços colectivos e comunitários na fábrica, destinados à exploração de recursos locais e à concepção e construção da própria cidade.
ABSTRACT:The established dynamics in the contemporary city – abandoned places, regeneration areas, new centralities – cause indefinition places in the urban tissue. Empty sites are excellent laboratories to test adaptive solutions for cities’ development. The surrounding area of Chelas’ valley presents itself as one of those expectant places – an area in regeneration, with an important green and hydric system, located in the oriental part of the city of Lisbon, where numerous deactivated industrial equipments still remain. Being housing one of the most prominent problems in Lisbon today – specifically, affordable housing – alongside the fact that the Eastern part of Lisbon concentrates the highest number of homeless people in the city, the project proposes the reconversion of Tinturaria Portugália’s industrial equipment, in a combined perspective of social reinsertion and local development. The project for a hybrid equipment is presented, bringing together temporary housing, collective and community spaces inside the factory, aiming to explore local resources, as well as offering its’ inhabitants the opportunity to take part in conceptualizing and building the city itself.

Cette recherche propose une incursion dans le champ émergent de la problématisation sociale de la question environnementale, à partir d'études de cas en Argentine. Nous proposons ainsi une contribution à l'analyse des différents modes selon lesquels, dans diverses sociétés, les problèmes environnementaux sont désignés, et le rôle que jouent dans cette désignation des processus sociaux plus globaux. Notre analyse a porté sur des conflits environnementaux, choisis en tant que moments de socialisation, marquant des inflexions dans la construction matérielle et symbolique de la question environnementale. Ont ainsi été sélectionnés deux cas, retenus du fait de leur impact sur les arènes publiques de délibération liées aux problèmes environnementaux, et pour leur caractère d'évènements charnière dans le processus de formation des institutions environnementales argentines : le conflit déclenché suite à l'installation des - usines de pâte à papier sur la rive uruguayenne du fleuve Uruguay, et celui lié à l'assainissement du bassin Matanza-Riachuelo, situé à la périphérie de Buenos Aires. La thèse décrit l'apparition et le développement de ces deux processus, ainsi que leur influence sur la formation d'arènes publiques autour de la question environnementale. Sont par là identifiés les points de rupture institutionnels provoqués par ces conflits, et le caractère exemplaire de ces derniers pour comprendre le débat environnemental national argentin et la construction sociale du risque collectif
This research considers the incursion into a field of new problems, relative to the emergence of the environmental issue as a socially problematised matter in Argentina. Our aim is to contribute to the analysis of the way in which the social selection of the environmental issues occurs in different societies and its relationship with more general processes of change. The road taken has been the analysis of the environmental conflicts considered as moments of socialization and turning points in the material and symbolic construction of the environmental issue. In this exploration, we have selected two cases of relevance for their ability to impact the public arenas of deliberation around the environmental problems, and because they represent hinge times in the construction of the environmental institutionality in Argentina: the conflict over the pulp mills on the Uruguay River and the conflict over the clean-up of the Matanza-Riachuelo River Basin. The thesis describes the emergence of these conflicts and the course they followed establishing an influence on the formation of public arenas around the environmental issue. It also identifies the instances of institutional rupture triggered by these conflicts and their exemplary nature for the national environmental debate and the social construction of the collective risk

This dissertation focus in the analysis of accounting practices and needs in the third sector entities and compare them with the Brazilian accounting standards. The study identifies the needs of civilian social organizations regarding financial accounting information and the growing demand for professional administration of said organizations. The growing importance of social organizations was studied, as well as its current participation in the Brazilian economy and the opinion of several authors about the need for governance and accounting information in social organizations. Six civilian social organizations from the City of S??o Paulo were chosen, ranging in various dimensions and activities, for documentary research and interview. Survey results indicate that the Brazilian accounting standards are focused on corporations and help little for the measurement and disclosure of activities of civil social organizations. The author presents a model of Balance Sheet, Income Statement and Value Added Statement adapted for the analyzed organizations

The intention of this research was to investigate as in the city of S?o Paulo, in elapsing of century XIX, the co-participation of knowing doctors to them, of engineering, of the architecture and the performance of the administrators they had implied in the modification in the urban configuration of the city and had defined a new structure in organization and functioning. It investigates, over all, the debate and practical the relative ones to the implantation of the hospitals, isolation hospitals, cemeteries and saint marries of mercy through the urban historical study of the S?o Paulo city. It tried to perceive how the urban practice implemented by the administrators through the doctors and engineers were based on the miasma theory. These buildings, according to related theory, would contain organic substance that when decomposing, exhaled miasmas, and therefore, they would have to be situated outside of the urban defined borders at that time. The studies had been made under the point of view of the public health, investigating the origin and formation of the buildings relating them, and the relation of these buildings with the urban way. It is also distinguished in this research, how the prescriptions in the medicine and architecture treaties about the salubrious of the cities, had been transferred to the legislation, through the Municipal Laws. By means of the law off August 30th of 1828, that it extinguished the positions of Physicist and Surgeon, the City councils had started to be responsible for public health and, through the Imperial Decree of October 1st of 1828, established it form of the elections of the members of the City councils and included the first Code of Positions in the organic law of the respective Chambers.
O prop?sito dessa pesquisa foi o de investigar como na cidade de S?o Paulo, no decorrer do s?culo XIX, a co-participa??o dos saberes m?dicos, da engenharia, da arquitetura e a atua??o dos administradores implicaram na modifica??o no tecido urbano da cidade e definiram uma nova estrutura de organiza??o e funcionamento. Investiga, sobretudo, o debate e as pr?ticas relativas ? implanta??o dos hospitais, lazaretos, cemit?rios e casas de miseric?rdia atrav?s do estudo hist?rico urban?stico da cidade de S?o Paulo. Procurou-se perceber como as pr?ticas urbanas implementadas pelos administradores atrav?s dos m?dicos e engenheiros aos seus servi?os estavam fundamentadas na teoria miasm?tica. Estes edif?cios, segundo a referida teoria, conteriam mat?ria org?nica que ao se decompor exalavam miasmas e, portanto, deveriam se localizar fora do meio urbano definido na ?poca. Os estudos foram feitos sob o ponto de vista da sa?de p?blica, investigando a origem e forma??o dos edif?cios relacionados ? mesma e a rela??o desses edif?cios com o meio urbano. The work is to make a brief discussion of methods to estimate the parameters of the Generalized Pareto distribution (GPD). Being addressed the following techniques: Moments (moments), Maximum Likelihood (MLE), Biased Probability Weighted Moments (PWMB), Unbiased Probability Weighted Moments (PWMU), Mean Power Density Divergence (MDPD), Median (MED), Pickands (PICKANDS), Maximum Penalized Likelihood (MPLE), Maximum Goodness-of-fit (MGF) and the Maximum Entropy (POME) technique, the focus of this manuscript. By way of illustration adjustments were made for the Generalized Pareto distribution, for a sequence of earthquakes intraplacas which occurred in the city of Jo?o C?mara in the northeastern region of Brazil, which was monitored continuously for two years (1987 and 1988). It was found that the MLE and POME were the most efficient methods, giving them basically mean squared errors. Based on the threshold of 1.5 degrees was estimated the seismic risk for the city, and estimated the level of return to earthquakes of intensity 1.5?, 2.0?, 2.5?, 3.0? and the most intense earthquake never registered in the city, which occurred in November 1986 with magnitude of about 5.2?
O objetivo desse trabalho ? fazer uma breve discuss?o dos m?todos de estima??o dos par?metros da distribui??o generalizada de Pareto (GPD). Sendo abordadas as seguintes t?cnicas: m?xima verossimilhan?a (MLE), m?xima verossimilhan?a penalizada (MPLE), m?todos dos momentos (moments), Pickands (Pickands), momentos ponderados pela probabilidade: viesado e n?o-viesado (PWMB, PWMU), diverg?ncia m?dia da densidade (MDPD), melhor qualidade do ajuste (MGF), mediana (MED) e o m?todo da m?xima entropia (POME), t?cnica que neste trabalho receber? uma maior aten??o. A t?tulo de ilustra??o foram feitos ajustes para a distribui??o generalizada de Pareto, para uma seq??ncia de sismos intraplacas, ocorridos no munic?pio de Jo?o C?mara, NE Brasil que foi monitorado continuamente durante dois anos (1987 e 1988). Verificou-se que o MLE e o POME foram os m?todos mais eficientes, dando basicamente os mesmos erros m?dios quadr?ticos. Abstract:
Order in design, whether in music or a building comes from bringing together parts to make a whole. These parts can have an autonomous existence separately and combine to formulate a different event collectively. This thesis is a study of how a building accommodates to the changing needs of a diverse community. It does this by investigating to what end two neighboring apartments, one small and one medium-sized could combine to develop into one large apartment, and revert back again to two apartments when the needs of the inhabitants change. This concept could be paralleled to Jazz, where the musicians find means of altering the sound of the music through improvisation between the notes of the song. The structure of the building like the notes of the melody provides the stationary component and forms the rhythmic beat between the apartments. The pauses or gaps between the structure provide the opportunity for flexibility and improvisation. The melody of the construction comes from the integration of the repetitious permanent structural elements, semipermanent conditions and spontaneously alterable parts. The orchestration of these components allows the building to transform and experience an altering production of its own.

Prigioniero a Tripoli e falso sacerdote. Apostata e penitente. Supposto martire e, pertanto, candidato alla santità. È questo il ritratto di Alipio di S. Giuseppe che emerge dalle fonti agiografiche e dal cospicuo, e in gran parte inedito, corpus documentario, di cui il primo capitolo della tesi offre un’articolata ricognizione. La vicenda di questo frate agostiniano scalzo di origine palermitana – che ben si inserisce nel contesto mediterraneo dei secoli XVI-XVII, caratterizzato da un continuo e ampio rimescolamento di uomini, merci, appartenenze religiose e culturali, e di cui la guerra di corsa, con tutte le sue conseguenze, costituisce una delle dimensioni più rappresentative – fu anzitutto una vicenda di prigionia, conversione all’islam e successiva abiura, nonché di martirio, cui il religioso andò volontariamente incontro nel febbraio del 1645; di questi aspetti, delle modalità con cui il tragico fatto fu trasmesso dai missionari apostolici residenti a Tripoli e recepito all’interno dell’Ordine degli Agostiniani Scalzi, oltre che delle interessanti analogie con altri episodi di apostasia si parla nel secondo capitolo. Nel terzo capitolo, invece, si dà conto del ruolo di primo piano avuto dalla famiglia siciliana dei Tomasi nella promozione della causa di beatificazione di fra Alipio, avviata in seguito all’arrivo, nel 1653, delle sue reliquie sul litorale agrigentino e approdata, dopo le ordinariae inquisitiones del biennio 1654-1656, alla Congregazione dei Riti, che però espresse parere negativo sia nel 1658 sia sessant’anni più tardi.
Captive in Tripoli and false priest, apostate and penitent, alleged martyr and then candidate to sainthood. That is the portrait the first part of this work brought to light from the considerable documentary corpus about Alipio di San Giuseppe, mostly still unpublished. The human existence of this Augustinian Discalceate friar from Palermo – set in the XVI and XVII centuries, when in the Mediterranean mix of people, goods, religions, also privateering was a significant aspect – is a sequence of captivity, conversion to Islam and following abjuration, culminating in the martyrdom he deliberately chose in February 1645. This story, its narration made by the apostolic missionaries in Tripoli as wells as its understanding by the Augustinian Discalceate order are investigated in the second chapter and compared with similar episodes of abjuration. In the third part the relevant role played by the Sicilian family Tomasi in promoting the beatification proceedings of Alipio is explained; started after his relics were brought to the shore near Agrigento in 1653, the proceedings moved to the Congregatio Sacrorum Rituum after the ordinariae inquisitiones in 1654-1656, and there were denied first in 1658 and definitively 60 years later.

Abstract:
A geophysical survey was carried out in 2012 to map the subsurface geology at a quarry and the village to determine if an alleged damage to houses could have been caused by blasting activity in the quarry. The survey included seismic refraction and reflection recorded with the same spread at source and receiver spacing of 2 m, 3 m, and 5 m. The signal source was a 28-lb. sledge hammer stacked 10 times to increase the S/N. Ground penetrating radar (GPR) was also recorded at a trace spacing of 0.3 m to provide detailed images of the subsurface near the damaged buildings using a 50 MHz unshielded antenna. The seismic refraction and reflection profiles show that the village is underlain by 0-4 m of loose sand, 4-10 m of fractured calcrete, and up to 50 m of fractured silcrete, with the groundwater table at 10-15 m. The GPR images show that the damaged houses sit on thick sand, which cushions them against severe ground vibration. The houses were found to have suffered more damage on the superstructure and this is possibly due to ground vibration amplification at low frequencies of 30-40 Hz.

Abstract:
The main purpose of the paper is to use Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) in 3-D analysis of aerodynamic forces of a Horizontal Axis Wind Turbine (HAWT) blade and compare the 3-D results with the 2-D experimental results. The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) Phase VI wind blade profile is used as a model for the analysis. The results are compared with the experimental data obtained by NREL at NASA Ames Research Center for the NREL Phase VI wind turbine blade. The aerodynamic forces are evaluated using 3-D Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation. The commercial ANSYS CFX and parameterized 3-D CAD model of NREL Phase VI are used for the analysis. The Shear Stress Transport (SST) Gamma-Theta turbulence model and 0-degree yaw angle condition are adopted for CFD analysis. For the case study seven varying wind speeds (5 m/s, 7 m/s, 10 m/s, 13 m/s, 15 m/s, 20 m/s, 25 m/s) with constant blade rotational speed (72 rpm) are considered. To evaluate the 3-D aerodynamic effect sectional pressure coefficient (Cp) and integrated forces about primary axis such as normal, tangential, thrust and torque are evaluated for each of the seven wind speed cases and compared with the NREL experimental values. The numerical difference of values on wind blade surface between this study and 3-D results of NREL wind tunnel test are found negligible. The paper represents an important comparison between the 3-D lift & drag coefficient with the NREL 2-D experimental data. The results shows that though the current study is in good agreement with NREL 3-D experimental values there is large deviation between the NREL 2-D experimental data and current 3-D study which suggests that in case of 3-D analysis of aerodynamic force of blade surface it is better to use NREL 3-D values instead of 2-D experimental values.

Creep and stress-rupture properties of cast IN738LC turbine blades have been analyzed to review the suitability of the Monkman-Grant relationship as a reliable life prediction method where t r ε . s m = C and m and C are material constants. The constants m and C in the Monkman-Grant relationship are temperature dependent and the relationship predicts lives within a factor of ± 4 relative to the observed values. A modified form of this relationship is derived where, - b t r n 1 + t r ε . s m 1 = K and b, n, m1 and K are material constants. The modified relationship is more accurate and predicts lives within a factor of 2 relative to the observed values. The constants b, n, m and k are independent of stress and temperature.

Abstract:
The s.c. administration of DDAVP was currently limited by the large volumes, which had to be injected. Thus, a new preparation containing 40 pg DDAVP per ml was investigated using a standard dose of 0.4 μg/kg body weight by s.c. injection. The pharmacokinetics of s.c. DDAVP and the resulting effects on the haemostatic system were assessed in 10 healthy male subjects in a placebo-controlled study. Peak levels of DDAVP, ranging from 480 to 638 pg/ml (median 505 pg/ml ) were found one hour after injection. DDAVP declined with a median (m) half-life of 3.1 h (range: 2.9- 3.6 h) . Maximum FV III levels were measured 1 or 2 h after DDAVP, the m increases were 2.7 and 3. Ox basal levels for FVIII:C and FVIII:Ag, respectively. A 2.1-fold increase of t-PA antigen was observed. The number of leucocytes significantly increased (absulute mean increment of 3.3x109 /I granulocytes) 4 h after DDAVP. These results were confirmed in plasmapheresis donors (N=13). Two bags of plasma were obtained after s.c. DDAVP with a mean content of 1.7 U/ml FVI11 :C and 1.9 U/ml ristocetin cofactor. The effect of s.c. DDAVP was was tested in 10 haemophilia A patients and 2 carriers of hemophilia A (m FVIII:C: 0.17 U/ml). The mean increase of FVIII:C was 2.3-fold (FVIII:Ag 2.5-fold) 1 h post injection. Eight bleeding episodes or operations were successfully treated with s.c. DDAVP, in one case postoperative haematoma occurred. In eight patients with uraemic bleeding the influence of s.c. DDAVP was investigated in the steady state. Bleeding time (BT) significantly shortened in 7 patients (before m BT: >15 min; 90 min after DDAVP BT: 6 min). Additionally, platelet count decreased while platelet retention increased.DDAVP, s.c. injected, was shown to be a safe and effective measure in bleeding disorders and may become a useful tool for conditioning of plasma or granulocyte donors.

Two phenomena have been studied in order to enhance the contingency plans and improve the safety of towages. 1. For multi tug towages it is important to prepare proper contingency plans for the case that a tug fails and overrun by the tow is a probability, especially the towages of FPSO’s and huge rigs performed by more tugs. A model has been developed to assess the time between the failure and the moment the tow will collide. After thorough research not the stopping distance proved important, but the time it takes for both objects to collide. In case the tug is allowed to be pulled towards the FPSO, the time from engine failure to collision is 380 [s] or 6 minutes 20 seconds. Both objects will collide with a speed difference of 2.28 [m/s]. In case the towline is cut, the time until collision is 1479 [s], or 24 minutes and 40 seconds. In this case it is very important to cut the towline instantly after the engine failure. Otherwise the tug will gain a negative speed of 1 m/s within 2 minutes, and the distance between the FPSO and the tug will be reduced to 683 [m] already. 2. Grounding of tow lines must be avoided the standard of the catenary approach to assume a hyperbolic shape is investigated and a detailed finite element model approach shows that the standard assumptions are not accurate enough. A numerical approach has been used to calculate the effect of current and loss of tension in the wire. The influence of current along the towing-wire depends on the speed, diameter, length and the angle of the towing-wire in the water. The maximum depth increases when the speed increases or the tension in the wire decreases. In the example the depths are on the safe side for depths below 35[m], but above 35[m] the values are too optimistic when current is involved.
