Abstract:
The paper deal with the defining stress state of a hoisting shaft lining, lying in the sandy loam, when performing and disturbing the ground freezing technology. The relevance of the performed research lies in the fact that at nonuniform freezing or defrosting, nonuniform stress state is formed, which causes a significant over-stresses of the lining. To research the nonuniform stress state, a spatial finite element model of a hoisting shaft was developed, in which the case of nonuniform ground freezing was simulated. The calculation by the finite-element technique was carried out on the basis

Refractory lining is an integral part of metallurgical facilities and requires constant perfection. Examples of successful interaction of specialists-steelmakers, companies-manufacturers of refractories and engineering companies on increasing efficiency of refractories application in steel industry presented. The wide application of drying and heating stations of steel ladles, EAFs, BOFs was noted because of using refractory gunned castable at their current repairs. The growth of unmolded refractory share in the BF production was shown. At the stoves repair technology of guniting and shotcreti

Abstract With superior ductility and toughness provided by steel-fiber reinforcement to flexural elements compared to other kinds of fibers, use of steel-fiber reinforced concrete (SFRC) in construction in general and underground infrastructure in particular is increasing in recent years. The use of SFRC has grown, due to better acceptance by designers, consultants and owners in construction projects who are further supported by improved design guidance through standards, robust equipment availability and/or better methods for construction. In addition, new developments in materials technology

Abstract:
This study aims to ensure that the maximum crack width of underground working linings for compressed air energy storage (CAES) meets the allowable limit under high internal pressure conditions. Drawing on crack width calculation methods from hydraulic tunnels, this study proposes a design method for segmented linings with preset seams. The method accounts for the shear mechanical behavior of the sliding layer, with parameters determined through laboratory testing. A typical case study validates the reliability of the crack width calculation method that accounts for lining damage and plasticity

Abstract:
The analysis of the occurrence of typical accidents of water drainage networks indicates a number of reasons for their failure, namely: a 2-3 times decrease in the amount of sewage over the last 20 years; increase in aggressiveness of wastewater, decrease in flow rate and increase in rainfall. During operation beyond the regulatory term, the reinforced concrete vault of the tunnel is almost completely destroyed as a result of biogenic corrosion. The listed reasons for the destruction of sewage tunnels built more than 50 years ago are generally similar in nature. From the above, it follows that

There are several methods for designing rock supports in tunnels. The Q-system is one of such methods, which is based on the rock mass classification. The Q-system was developed at Norwegian GeotechnicalInstitute (NGI) between 1971 and 1974 (Barton et al. (1974)). The rock supports recommendations fromQ-system are based on the Q-value of the rock mass, which is calculated from 6 rock parameters. The rock parameters for calculating Q-values are based on the orientation and number of discontinuity sets present in the rock mass, surface condition of discontinuities, groundwater conditions a

A new dual-two lanes tunnel of about 3.8 kilometers long was constructed in Kowloon East in Hong Kong recently. It forms part of a major strategic road network to provide an express connectivity and improve the traffic condition between Kowloon East and Kowloon West. Two portal caverns, which are at the east end of the tunnels, are the first and largest of its kind with slender pillar constructed in highly fractured volcanic rock. A competent and optimised temporary cavern support design was required with the consideration of the pillar stability and construction logistics prior to the permane
