Seventeen subjects, from two occupational groups (patient care aides, and rehabilitation staff), were observed twice each during routine interactions with the nursing home residents. The focus of the study was her issue with abandonment which emerged as the central theme in therapy. Older people are as diverse a group as they were as younger people. Home environments should reflect these diverse individuals' varying interests, preferences, and needs. In this small qualitative study, the researcher explores how four families involved in resource foster care services conceptualize concurrent planning in the child welfare system. The purpose of this focused ethnographic study was to describe the patterns of a good death held by elderly Japanese Americans living in Hawaii. Eighteen "healthy active" elderly Japanese Americans were interviewed individually. In addition, supplementary data, such as interviews with experts and field observations were collected for triangulation of the data. Four themes were derived from 1224 keywords, 56 categories, and 13 patterns.
