Full textThis research explores on the hand, the level of satisfaction and the level of investment of young engineers in employment and secondly the level of expectations and level of investment planned by future engineers. A preliminary study on a population consisting of 619 young engineers in employment, has allowed us to build a tool to measure and test a research model. The relationship between satisfactions and the involvement and organizational commitment has been established through structural equation models. This model is discussed by gender and generation membership (X or Y). A typology of engineers in 5 groups was established. From this model, we propose an exploratory model for a population of engineering students. This model connects the expectations of future engineers with their future position and the organizational involvement and commitment in the work they themselves feel they should provide. A cohort study of a population of 1,016 engineering students allowed us to validate the model and construct a typology of groups. The evolution of the employment relationship of future and young engineers was discussed

Full textEven if the major actors and transduction pathways of muscle development have been identified, there are still unknown regulatory factors. An in vitro RNAi screening performed on C2C12 myoblastic cells has permitted to identify 20 novel genes potentially implicated in myogenesis. During my thesis, two of these genes were invalidated on mouse model using CRISPR/Cas9 technology in order to confirm their implication in vivo. For the first gene, due to an early lethality occurring in homozygous mutated animals, only heterozygous animals were studied and there was no muscular development anomaly detected. A refined study of earlier stages of embryonic development permitted to show the essential role of the protein in these phases. The study of the second gene, still in progress, seems to confirm in vivo the implication of the gene on the myogenesis. In order to avoid embryonic lethality due to germline invalidation and to observe more rapidly the effects of gene invalidation in muscle, we developed a technique of somatic transgenesis based on RNA interference. Lentivirus containing a shRNA expression cassette was injected directly into the tibialis anterior of mice. We validated this approach on Myostatin gene, a well-known negative regulator of muscle development, showing that the decrease of Myostatin gene expression was associated to an increase of muscle fibers area. The same approach was used with three genes and support the hypothesis of the implication of one of them in muscle development. Thus, this approach allows a rapid “in vivo” screening of in vitro identified genes. Nonetheless, some improvements should be brought on the protocol according to the first results

Full textA single case marked by its uniqueness is studied, which concerns the management of the organizational identity of the main Portuguese group in the telecommunications sector. Its context led us to two intertwined fields of theoretical discussion: in the first one, the implementation of the strategy brings about the relevance of the group's organizational identity; in the second one, the organizational identity is managed with the support of an original tool, the so-called internal brand. The central question that guides our work is then, why and how the group's organizational identity can be managed with the support of an internal brand? Such a specific tool of the organizational's identity management establishes a new concept, both on a theoretical and on a managerial perspective. It is at the intersection of the theoretical fields of the organizational identity and of the corporate brand that the internal brand gets its full strength as a conceptual innovation

Full textThe development of foreign activities by MNC (Multinational Corporations) raises the question of how do cultural differences affect their managerial practices, such as strategic planning which has always been source of academic debates and one of most widely used managerial tools. The cultural context in China is regarded as unique because of its continued evolution under the influence of traditional values, communist ideological factors and modern-day economic globalization. This research is interested in describing the practice of strategic planning of French MNCs in China, draw conclusions and formulate propositions related to the cultural context effects. Starting with a three-pronged analysis of strategy as practice, we then cross-examine the five current features of strategic planning in Western literature and the six groups of national and organizational cultural dimensions that MNC encounter in the Chinese context. Then, drawing from a qualitative case study, the experiences of French expatriates and Chinese managers help us construct a model of strategic practice, rendered accessible by using the metaphor of a "train", which includes both our conceptual and operative propositions

Full textThe gap between the value of the company in the accounting and financial books and its real market value is growing more and more. This difference represents the effect of intellectual capital that arises in the company in various forms. His decortication in three types is the most widely used: human capital, organizational capital and customer capital. These different forms of intellectual capital are related to one another and to the financial structure of the company. They correspond to the realization of employees' knowledge skills with their effects on the structure of the company and on creating value for it. In addition, the value is not produced by only one component of intellectual capital, but by their interaction. To test the effect of these interactions on the creation of corporate value, we conducted a conceptual model that links the different variables, we used structural equation models and we proposed measurement scales that we have tested with Tunisian companies

Full textThis thesis is interested in the conflicts of interests which appear during the process of integration of a strategy of sustainable development in the company and in their forms of resolution. We show that the very consensual notion of sustainable development reveals conflicts as soon as it is the object of interpretations for implementation. We present the contributions and the limits of the literature on the corporate social responsibility and its managerial approach : the stakeholder theory. This theory brings to light the conflicts of interests but it leaves unresolved the question of their resolution. To study this question, we mobilize the work of Boltanski et Thevenot and apply it to the understanding of the process of formulation and implementation of the strategy of sustainable development of Botanic (garden centres). At the conclusion of this theoretical and empirical work, we propose a modelling of the process of integration of an authentic strategy of sustainable development which considers the conflicts of interests and their resolution forms. We complete the stakeholders approach in a socioconstructionniste perspective. Finally we plead for a seventh city, an ecological one, which seems useful to grasp the environmental aspects of sustainable développement

Full textThe institutions of social security in Latin-American have presented serious problems, like IMSS in Mexico. The principal problems in these institutions are: lack of capability; the strong financial and actuarial imbalances; the increase of the unemployment; lack or delay in the payment quotas of the businessmen; the negative yields of the investments and the strong component of the management expenses. Under this context the IMSS has had to establish strategies to change its structure and organization form, which has allowed him to solve partially the problems. One of these strategies is the creation of the indirect subrogated service, keepership services that offers the Institute across private organizations. These subrogated keepership have received a model from the IMSS, which has had to be adapted according to its needs, due to the environment in which they work is different. Due to its hybrid nature some behaviors exist in its performers that haven't been reflected at all and have created problems in its organization. The interest in this investigation is to determine which is the nature of the hybrid organizations? Which is the process of model transference in this type of organizations? and to identify how this fact is reflected in the identity and the behavior of its performers. This will be helpful as a guideline for any organization that belongs to this kind of cases in order to improve the performance

Full textFor those who are just starting clinical practice, coming across a subject who self-cuts can be very disturbing. The gaze is summoned very poignantly. The question that guides this research is: in what way can the analytical device operate in the gaze/ speech/ psychic elaboration triad? To answer this, the focus of this work is based on the clinical material at our disposal. More precisely, we approached the act of self-cutting as it presents itself in neurotic subjects. As this act also appears in psychosis and perversion, further investigations are necessary. In Psychoanalysis, there is scant literature on this specific act to date, so we did a brief survey on the topic in Psychiatry, Anthropology, and Sociology. We also present the act of self-cutting in the context of media, as self-cutters use the internet and social networks as a means to anonymously bring to public notice their psychological distress. Using Freudian theory, we show the importance of coining the term \"act of self-cutting\" from a metapsychological point of view. Afterwards, we present two clinical cases where the concepts of anguish, acting-out and passage to the act, as seen by Freud and Lacan, became fundamental in conducting the analyzes of these clinical cases. With this, we hope to contribute to the expansion of the field of study on the subject

Full textThe cultural industries are recognized today as being one of the most dynamic sectors of the world economy. According to the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), the business of the cultural products knows a rate of annual growth since about twenty years, going from 5 % to 20 %. Their contribution to the world Gross domestic product (GDP) is estimated at more than 7 % (World Bank, 2003). However, these performances are the result of the economic dynamism of the developed countries and certain countries of the South. In the cinematographic industry for example, India takes place at the top of the list of the biggest producers of movies (1091 movies in 2006), followed by Nigeria (872 movies in 2006) and the United States (485 movies in 2006). In French-speaking Black Africa, the music is the 3rd most important sector in the state economy of Côte-d’Ivoire, in Mali and in Senegal; while the Burkina Faso is leading within the UEMOA in the still embryonic sector of the production of television fictions. As the Gabon tries to reduce its dependence towards natural resources, the cultural industries could not establish one of the sectors on which this country can lean to diversify its economy?

Full textThe objective of this research is to determine the nature of the relationship between internationalization and performance (RIP) of firm, subject debated for forty years without conclusive response. To achieve this, we develop a three-dimensional approach with two phases : analytical and interactive analysis. In the first, we focus on the degree of internationalization and the individual impact of each dimension of internationalization to determine the nature of the "parts" of the RIP. In the second, we focus on the process of internationalization and the interactive impact of three dimensions - breadth, depth, dispersion - of internationalization to determine the nature of the "whole" of the RIP. This research, based on a sample of 69 French international enterprises over the period 2001-2007, clarifies the nature of the RIP by providing the following new empirical and theoretical elements: (i) Each dimension of internationalization maintains a curvilinear and three-stage relationship with performance; (ii) The nature of the RIP is mainly governed by the nature of the relationship between the depth of internationalization and performance, thus being curvilinear, with three phases and forming a horizontal S; (iii) The horizontal S-curve relationship between internationalization and performance is moderated by the breadth and the dispersion of internationalization; (iv) The process of internationalization explain firm performance better than the degree of internationalization

Full textThe company is the motor of growth and economic development. The entrepreneur is its builder. He contributes to the creation of, riches, jobs and guarantees the social cohesion. Industrialized nations have proved that the wealth is acquired through creation, imagination and innovation which are the virtues of the entrepreneur. Our thesis reveals the obstacles which prevent the creation and the development of companies in Africa, particularly in the CEMAC zone. It also presents perspectives to fight against the failures of the financial and banking systems which are expressed by a financial excess liquidity, a weakness of the investment environment and an asymmetry of information about companies. These failures constitute the main explicative factors of the high cost of credit for VSE (Very Small Enterprise) and SME (Small and Medium-sized Enterprise) which creates a climate of mistrust in business. Such constraints concerning informal economy are explained by an administrative red tape and by the scarcity of bank loans. The restructuration of the banking and financial sectors of the CEMAC zone is necessary to encourage entrepreneurship

Full textThe thesis first raises the following question: is a sporting club a company ? Given the heterogeneitv of the federate competitive sporting clubs, there is no single answer. In the absence of an own framework of analysis and given the "Tradization" of the sport, we analyse the contrasted evolutions of the sporting clubs during the XXe century. The history is often revealing of the future. The search for an improvment of the management methods of the sporting clubs, whic represents the main objective of the thesis, ran up against the lack of conceptualization and the insufficient precision of the existing recommendations. From this report, a conceptual system founded on the Models of metamorphosis has been set up, in order to classify the various types of existing clubs and to put forward in a context of markets' enlarging, tlie close connections between the growth of the organizations and the resort to the values and the methods of business management. It is a question of drawing a picture of the profiles of sporting clubs so as to offer for each one of them some recommendations in keeping with their level of development. This field study related to sporting clubs within five popular sporting disciplines in France, namely Football, Rugby, Basketball, Handball and Hockey. On the whole, 28 sporting clubs have been questioned, on the basis of 20 significant characteristics of the level of a club development. After having highlighted five stages of development. The use of the characteristics makes it possible to show an unquestionable simultaneity of characteristics' qualities and to define, for each club its level of development. On the basis of this new conceptualization of the sporting clubs in their diversity and with the determination of catalysts that are useful and effective at each level of development, the research proposes to highlight the progressive changes of dimension of the clubs in order to develop an effective strategy taking into account thc possible crisis that a change of dimension can cause in the club's life. In short, the thesis proposes a new framework of analysis of the sporting clubs and an original topology based on their level of development. It shows a tendency of evolution of the clubs, from which business strategies can be suggested

Full textThe organizations come under many pressures leading them to seek an increase in their economic performance so as to survive and thrive in an extremely competitive environment, without sacrificing a social performance which guarantee the satisfaction of their customers and their staff. In this context, the management of inefficient behaviours in the workplace, conform or not to the standards in force within the organization, becomes crucial. Studiing the case of deviant and inefficient non violent behaviours of employees in the workplace, we show that such behaviours strongly handicap the economic and social performance, to the detriment of all stakeholders of the organization as well as its customers. Taking the case of seven different organizations in the service sector, we show that their organizational structures, both physical, technological, equipmental and normative (rules of the game and working procedures) have many defects that prevent them from influencing behaviours in the workplace towards efficiency, explaining in part the adoption of deviant behaviours in the workplace. We show also that managerial practices are not sufficient to maintain the adaptation of organizational structures to the changing environment and ensure compliance. We observed that a combined development of organizational structures and managerial practices allowed to influence behaviours in the workplace towards greater compliance and efficiency. We accordingly noticed an increase in the economic and social performance of the organizations studied

Full textThis thesis deals with structural changes occurring in public companies that need to restructure their organisation in order to cope with European regulations. The issue of our study examines career management in public companies obliged to restructure. The topic of our research refers to career opportunities as perceived by the employees of such organisation in order to specify how career management has evolved further to the opening of some public markets. This work is composed of three parts. The first one consists of an overview of the literature, the second one deals with research methodology, and the last one highlights the results of this study. This qualitative research is based on two case studies (France Telecom and SNCB), carried out in two different countries (France and Belgium). The results, obtained thanks to three different analyses (thematic, textual and cognitive), underline that restructuring public companies leave slowly behind them the objective model of career management to reach a more individualizing model. The changes are mainly conducted in the "cadres” population and start slowly in the "non cadres” population. Moreover, the access to the "cadres” status is not possible depending on the structure in which they evolve. The employees see changes in their work conditions. Their career is now depending on the following criteria: length of service, willingness of the employee, the hierarchical superior's judgment and the internal promotions opportunities

Full textIn the current context of competition based on knowledge, to take action against uncertainties demands companies to seek a better knowledge of themselves, their strengths and weaknesses and the development of a greater capacity for risk management. Analysing the electrical energy sector as an industry, all planning and operational decisions should be inserted within a national context. We present a proposal for strategic analysis developed by a group of specialists in the area of knowledge and client management from the company Eletropaulo, Brasil. Adopting a constructivist methodology, the study analyses the relationship between strategic actions, innovative practices and the environmental context, describing the main initiatives of the decision makers in collaborative and competitive activities. The study encompasses the aspects of innovative practices that vary from unstructured internal activities to organisation of interactions with external counterparties. Attention is directed towards the internal and external actors and to the mechanisms they have created with regards to the establishment of agreements for the development of new technologies and to generate new markets. Our objective was to improve the innovation process through the management of tactical and explicit knowledge taking all the intra-organisational competencies into account. The main result resides in the identification of characteristics of the creative process, influenced by the potential contribution of tactical knowledge, as a resource for a company to gain comparative advantage

Full textOur research focuses on the entrepreneurial process and more precisely on the trigger phase. We take our definition of the trigger phase from Bruyat's (1993) model: the individual seriously considers the opportunity to start a business; he devotes time and resources to his project, he acts upon this intention. In order to model this trigger we use two main ideas (intention and displacement) as well as the following researchers' work: Shapero et Sokol (1982), Ajzen (1991) and Kreuger and Carsrud (1993). We study the case of French engineers, our starting point is a database initiated by Fayolle (1996). We focus on two groups of engineers in particular. The first group of engineers did not become entrepreneurs but had the short-term objective to start a business at the time of the study. The second group was made up of engineers who did not become entrepreneurs and who never wanted to. There are two steps in our methodology: firstly a quantitative investigation, and secondly a qualitative study. We test the two trigger antecedents that we retained in our conceptual model. We also identify eight career paths. We then look more closely into each career path through semi-directive interviews. This leads us to consider the trigger, not only in terms of pre-identified variables but in a more general way. Two determining dimensions become clear. Firstly, we notice that the trigger processes evolve differently over time. Secondly, the intensity and consequences of displacements may be perceived in different ways by individuals. This leads us to propose a cartography which enables to identify four trigger phase processes

The most common form of the disease (Type 1) is associated with mutations in the HFE gene. The C282Y homozygous genotype accounts for approximately 80% of all reported cases of HH within the Caucasian population. A second HFE mutation, H63D, is associated with less severe disease expression. The C282Y mutation is extremely rare in Asian and African populations. The H63D mutation is more prevalent and has been observed in almost all populations. Iron overload resulting from haemochromatosis is predicted to be rare in Asian Indian populations and is not associated with common HFE mutations that are responsible for HH in the Caucasian population. The aberrant genes associated with HH in India have not yet been identified. The present study attempted to identify variants in six iron regulatory genes that were resulting in the Type 1 HH phenotype observed in two Asian Indian probands from a highly consanguineous family. The promoter and coding regions of the HMOX1, HFE, HAMP, SLC40A1, CYBRD1 and HJV genes were subjected to mutation analysis. Gene fragments were amplified employing the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and subsequently subjected to heteroduplex single-strand conformational polymorphism (HEX-SSCP) analysis. Samples displaying aberrations were then analysed using bi-directional semi-automated DNA sequencing analysis to identify any known or novel variants within the six genes. Variants disrupting restriction enzyme recognition sites were genotyped employing restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) analysis. Mutation analysis of the six genes revealed 24 previously identified variants, five novel variants (HFE: 5’UTR-840T→G, CYBRD1: 5’UTR-1813C→T, 5’UTR-1452T→C, 5’UTR- 1272T→C; HJV: 5’UTR-534G→T, 5’UTR-530G→T), one previously described microsatellite and two novel repeats. Variants identified within the SLC40A1, CYBRD1 and HJV genes do not seem to be associated with the iron overload phenotype. A previously described HAMP variant (5’UTR-335G→T) was observed in the homozygous state in both probands. This variant seems to be the genetic aberration responsible for iron overload in this Indian family. The severe juvenile haemochromatosis phenotype usually associated with HAMP mutations, was not exhibited by the two Indian probands. Their symptoms resembled those observed in classic Type 1 HH. It is suggested that variants identified in the HMOX1 and HFE genes are modifying the effect of the HAMP variant and resulting in the less severe disease phenotype. Although this variant has only been identified in one Indian family, it could shed some light in the hunt for the iron-loading gene in India.

Full textOur work studies the influence of organizational characteristics on institutional image of organization. Institutional image refers to institutional logics of an organizational field to be legitimate, and then they are projected to stakeholders. Organizational characteristics concern here professional expertise, clients, partnerships and prizes. Our hypotheses are tested in French industrial design agencies. Our method is qualitative (25 exploring interviews and 13 confirming interviews) and quantitative (a database of 249 design agencies from 1990 to 2002). Findings indicate which organizational characteristics explain the institutional image of design agencies referring to significant logics inside this field - functionalist, formalist or utilitarian logics

Full textAs a result of the evolution of the external envirnment which has been affected by a liberal ideology, Tunisian public organizations have been seeking for an efficient management model able to improve public notoriety. This quest for efficiency has incited us to study ways of developing competences among employees in public organizations. The research attempts to define the major factors that are likely to affect competence management. It is hypothesized that both the cultural context and the Human Resource Management strategies may influence the success of the implementation of a competence-based management approach within public organizations. First, the study focuses on the ambiguity of competence management, showing that the former practice is far from being homogeneous or neutral. We, then, present a qualitative longitudinal case study of a big Tunisian organization. The part of the research has enabled us to examine those difficulties faced in implementing restructuration projects in the Tunisian public sector. The second part of the study describes the most important results of the dysfunctional analysis that has been carried out within the observed organization. We demonstrated that the Human Resource Management system- a traditionally based approach- does not encourage the management of competences among workers. Suggesting a new management tool has, thus, proved to be necessary. Finally, the study attempts to shed lights on those cultural caracterstics of Tunisian public organizations and which may hinder the implementation of competence-management practices

Full textOnce considered by realists as a confrontation between States, the notion of War has shifted with the proliferation of internai conflicts linked to the CoId War or other factors. Their immense toll on human life, as well as their societal origins has made these conflicts very difficult to resolve. The conflict in the Democratie Republic of the Congo, which falls into this category, also involves State-actors. In addition to its internal and inter-state dimensions, one must mention the failure of the State, the disintegration of the army, ethnic manipulation, conflict over property, as weil as the illegal exploitation of mining resources. Faced with such a complex situation, the international community, under the auspices of the United Nations, has tried to enginee political solutions based on the theory of liberal peace with the introduction of democracy, and economic ones with the market economy. This study will therefore examine first of all the extent to which such solutions are adapted to the conflict in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, or whether or not they lead to fragile democracies. Secondly, we will seek to demonstrate that solutions may lie in the consolidation of institutions created through elections, the refounding of the army, the end of the criminalisation of the economy, cooperation with neighbouring countries, and the social transformation of the conflict. These solutions are thought to defend the idea of a sustainable peace in the Democratic Republic of the Congo
