Abstract:
The Caspian pond turtle, Mauremys caspica, is an important reptile species in the southern basin of Caspian Sea. Haematological indices and serum biochemistry can be utilised as valuable screening tools for the health status of many domestic and wild animals. In this study, the blood parameters were measured in male and female turtles to establish physiologic reference ranges of selected haematological and serum biochemical parameters in M. caspica. For this purpose, blood samples were collected from 60 Caspian pond turtles (30 males and 30 females) from the southern basin of Caspian Sea. Sign

Mass mortality in Caspian terns (Hydroprogne caspia), Pallas’s gulls (Ichthyaetus ichthyaetus), and Caspian gulls (Larus cachinnans) was recorded on the northeastern shores of the Caspian Sea in June 2022. More than 5000 gulls and terns died due to the outbreak. The outbreak was investigated in the field, and representative numbers of samples were collected and analyzed using pathological, virological, and molecular methods. Highly pathogenic avian influenza A (H5N1) viruses were detected and isolated from samples collected from dead birds. Genetic and phylogenetic analyses indicated that the

The test basin for this investigation is the Caspian Sea, where accurate representation of the water budget is vital for prediction of water level changes, which have historically seen trends of up to 15 cm/year. The Caspian Sea is the world's largest closed body of water, and it has a number of unique features, not least, the considerable fluctuations in water level during the 20th century. This water level dropped by 3 m from 1929 to 1977, increased rapidly by 2.6 m during thetwo decades following, and from 1995 a slow rate of change continues. It is likely that the underlying causes of these water level changes are the human activities in the Caspian Sea Basin but literature shows that climate change also had a significant effect.
