Abstract:
The essay examines Cassola’s fiction on the Italian Resistenza, focusing on the short story Baba (1946), the novel Fausto e Anna (1952), and the short novel I vecchi compagni (1953). In these works, Cassola constructs a narrative opposition between the bourgeois intellectual (Fausto) and the communist worker (Baba). Within a narrative space that reconfigures relational dynamics by centering the communist character, the author portrays the failure of intellectual leadership. The essay further explores how this opposition shapes narrative construction – affecting plot structure, character develo

Heptodonta abasileia sp. nov., H. halensis sp. nov., H. horii sp. nov., H. schuelei sp. nov., H. tempesta sp. nov. and H. wiesneri sp. nov. are described. Heptodonta nigrosericea (W. Horn, 1930), stat. nov. is raised to species rank. Heptodonta ferrarii Gestro, 1893, syn. nov. and H. fe

Arachidonic acid (AA) has been shown to inhibit the activity of the low-conductance ATP-sensitive K+ channel in the apical membrane of the cortical collecting duct [W. Wang, A. Cassola, and G. Giebisch. Am. J. Physiol. 262 (Renal Fluid Electrolyte Physiol. 31): F554-F559, 1992]. ROMK1, a K+ channel derived from the rat renal outer medulla, shares many biophysical properties of the native low-conductance K+ channel, which is localized to the apical membranes of the cortical collecting duct and thick ascending limb. This study was designed to determine whether the ROMK channel maintains the prop

We have previously demonstrated that inhibiting protein tyrosine kinase (PTK) and stimulating protein kinase A (PKA) increase the activity of the small-conductance K (SK) channel in the cortical collecting duct (CCD) of rat kidneys (Cassola AC, Giebisch G, and Wang WH. Published and unpublished data on the epigeic and cave centipedes of Sardinia (Italy) are summarized and critically revised in this paper. Fifty-four species are listed and discussed (1 Scutigeromorpha, 19 Lithobiomorpha, 6 Scolopendromorpha, 28 Geophilomorpha), two of which new to the island: Lamyctes emarginatus (Newport, 1844) and Schendyla montana (Attems, 1895). Thirty-one species have been recorded in caves (1 Scutigeromorpha, 14 Lithobiomorpha, 6 Scolopendromorpha, 10 Geophilomorpha) – including the poorly known Plutonium zwierleini Cavanna, 1881 – six of which exclusive of this habitat
