Paul Lopez Castellote was a prominent figure in the world of education in Catalonia in the sixties to the nineties. He founded the School Costa Llobera (1959) and the COU Jaume Bofill (1971), two schools have been related to educational innovation in Catalonia. He was a key person in the Catalan section of the International Secretariat of Catholic Secondary School Teachers, which came to be its Secretary General and Vice-president and active member of the Catalan Board of Education. From a reflective hermeneutics (Paul Ricoeur) we approached his biography and the core of his pedagogical thinking. From his concept of the human person, man and woman, created in the image and likeness of God and their relationship with the environment, the history and significance will reach the fundamental goal of education: person open the importance of solidarity from the domain of earth in its particular historical moment and the ability and willingness to mobilize all its resources on a path to personal maturity. Education will therefore help given to a person in order to make progress in achieving its maturity. Key elements of this will be education instruction and assessment, teaching, authority and responsibility, and demand respect, order and discipline, scientific knowledge and personal choices, personal convictions pluralism and truth. The Christian education must assume all the responsibilities and all the commitments that education entails human, bearing in mind that it is the image of God and co-creator with God in the world. This poses a Christian school as one that gives an instruction set in an assessment of the world and of life that binds the faith in Christ. Neither the presence of priests and religious, class or religion, or performing prayers and Eucharist or catechesis is what determines whether a Christian school. Yet it might not be. The Christian school must live and help live the Christian world today. It must give a Christian view of the world respectful of other views. Paul Lopez Castellote worked tirelessly to carry out his ideas and his legacy is part of the recent history of education in Catalonia. This work attempts to show and record his figure and his contribution.
