Les representacions del paisatge de la ruralitat es trobaven circumscrites a punts específics del territori i a visions idealitzades relacionades amb els valors de l’origen i la permanència. En canvi, aquesta recerca es proposa mostrar una nova representació de la ruralitat. La lectura crítica del corpus de set obres narratives és la base a través de la qual s’analitza, d’una banda, una nova estètica de la ruralitat i, de l’altra, la relació que hi estableix l’individu. Aquest estudi acaba mostrant una tornada al lloc rural que és geogràfica, literària i de reflexió social i humana, així com la constitució d’una nova representació de la ruralitat marcada pel que aquí s’anomena el jo-lloc i els paisatges de la inquietud

Full textEste estudio extrae las tendencias literarias que sobresalen en el panorama novelístico en lengua catalana del siglo XXI a partir del análisis de siete ejes definidores y característicos de esta narrativa: la relación temática con la crisis identitaria, la incertidumbre y la falta de sentido general; la plasmación de la cotidianidad y el contexto inmediato por medio de personajes con actitudes y patologías muy cercanas a los individuos coetáneos; la inclusión normalizada del fantástico en textos de temática y ambientación realistas a través del género del realismo mágico o el neofantástico; el auge del método de la fragmentación discursiva mediante diversas técnicas que rompen con la coherencia, la lógica y la uniformidad; el incremento en el uso de la práctica metaliteraria, es decir, aquella narrativa que se refiere a ella misma; la tendencia creciente a la elaboración de narraciones de autoficción, en que el autor se introduce de forma parcial dentro de la historia, generalmente a partir de la primera persona narrativa, y la fuerte instauración del formalismo literario, que se hace visible en obras que aventajan la forma (el cómo) al contenido (el qué).
This study extracts the literary trends that emerge in the 21st century Catalan-language novel scene from an analysis of seven defining and characteristic axes of this narrative: the thematic relation with the identity crisis, the uncertainty and the lack of general sense; the expression of everyday life and immediate context through characters with attitudes and pathologies which are very close to contemporary individuals; the normalized inclusion of the fantastic in texts of realistic topic and setting by the genre of magical realism or neofantastic; the rise of the method of discursive fragmentation through various techniques that break with consistency, logic and uniformity; the increase in the use of metaliterary practice, that is to say, the narrative that refers to itself; the growing tendency to elaborate autofiction narratives, in which the author is partially introduced into the story, usually from the first narrative person, and the strong implementing of literary formalism, which becomes visible in works that put the form (the how) before the content (the what).

Defenders of Catalan, writers in particular, have striven to preserve a written language that would be both viable and “authentic”, that is to say free from Castilian influences. Full textThe historical novel played a central role in the resurgence of the Catalan novel during the Renaixença, which occurred in two stages: the first was during the 1860s and saw little in the way of production, the second came during the 1870s when the resurgence started to gain a certain momentum. Whereas only three novels plus one unfinished work appeared in the 1860s, during the 1870s some 32 novels and novellas were published. With specific reference to the historical novel, two were published in the 1860s and fourteen in the 1870s. In terms of type, the most powerful influences on the first novel, L’orfeneta de Menargues by Antoni de Bofarull are clearly the classic historical novels of Walter Scott and Alessandro Manzoni. In contrast, from the 1870s the Catalan historical novel owes much more to the historical adventure fiction of Alexandre Dumas, and by the 1880s there is a move away from the melodramatic with the introduction of Barcelonan costumbrism and sentimentalism. If we group the novels according to historical period, we find there are two novels set in the medieval period, L’orfeneta de Menargues (1862) by Antoni de Bofarull, and Lo castell de Sabassona (1879) by Joaquim Salarich; two set during the War of the Spanish Succession, Lo coronel d'Anjou (1872) by Francesc Pelai Briz, and Vigatans i botiflers (1878) by Maria de Bell-lloch; one set in the 17th century, Lo rector de Vallfogona (1876) by Josep Feliu i Codina; one set during the War of the Pyrenees, Història d’un pagès (1869) by Joaquim Riera i Bertran; four set during the war of Independence, Les òrfenes de mare (1872) by Josep d'Argullol, Lo caragirat (1872) by Josep Martí i Folguera, Cor i sang (1880) by Antoni Careta i Vidal, and Lo Bruch (1880) by Josep Feliu i Codina; and two novels set during the Carlist Wars, L'any 35 (1874) by Frederic Soler (unfinished) and La guerra (1877) by Josep d'Argullol. Despite this diversity, we can still discern a series of common elements, such as history, customs and folklore, melodramatic literary conventionalism, and a patriotic spirit.

Full textIn its beginnings, the French semiotic theory had as its major concern the issues of the intelligible, when Greimas proposed a generative path of meaning capable to comprise many systems of meaning. In the course of time, though, the analysts were defied by issues related to sensibility and affection, which claimed for a place in theory, through texts in which narrative was not central. Claude Zilberberg, in particular, is one of the authors who defends the primacy of the sensibility over intelligibility through the features of which came to be called tensive semiotics. Following this movement both through theory and literature, this dissertation chooses as its subject an experimental novel, Paulo Leminskis Catatau, almost considered an unintelligible work due to its non-linear narrative patterns. We aim to approach this novel through the tensive semiotics theory, proposing some ways for its reading based on the texts iterant strategies and procedures. As Zilberberg finds in Saussures syllabic model a rhythmic system which can be expanded to all semiotic domains, we can find in a novel like Catatau cells or elements which repeat in certain intervals, creating a rule, an orientation, a rhythm at least. In Catatau, this rhythm seems much more to disorganize than to organize the language. It means that its the rhythmic cell interchange that leads the reader to that effect of unintelligibility. Of course that there are more features that reinforce this effect within the novel, as we show along our work. That means that we see Leminskis novel less as a diluted narrative and more as the offspring of some experience only made possible if built upon some persons sensibility, affected by his/her surroundings. On this specific approach we find our means to make explicit the building of the text meaning, which is considered the semiotic theory main goal.

Full textCatatau was written between 1966 and 1975, a period when Brazil was under a hideous military dictatorship. In the same period, the Brazilian culture lived one of its richest and most intense moments, producing manifestations as Tropicália, Cinema Novo, Teatro Oficina, Cinema Marginal etc. Our work aims to demonstrate how Catatau is situated in that historical context and especially how it produces a political critique of the authoritarian regime. Due its critical position on the authoritarian power, we believe Catatau may be considered a \"novel of protest\" and not just an experimental or avant-garde work, as usually Catatau is considered. However, unlike the other \"novels of protest\" written during the period called \"post-64\", Catatau is characterized by its baroque language and its affiliation with the long tradition of carnivalized literature. The theoretical support for the analysis of the baroque is mainly the work of Severo Sarduy. And to the analysis of carnivalization we adopted especially the concepts of Mikhail Bakhtin presented in the books Problems of Dostoevsky\'s poetics and François Rabelais and Popular culture in the Middle Ages and the Renaissance and also the important work of Enylton de Sá Rego, O calundu e a panaceia, in which the author studies the relationships between Machado de Assis\'s work and the menippean satire.

Full textL’objectiu d’aquesta tesis doctoral és el desenvolupament i implementació d’un marc computacional d’alt rendiment (HPC, de les sigles en anglès de High Performance Computing) amb el fi de realitzar proves virtuals d’estructures fetes de materials compòsits. En aquest sentit, aquesta tesis presenta la formulació de diversos models constitutius basats en la teoria de la mecànica de danys continus així com la seva implementació en el codi de simulació HPC anomenat Alya. La verificació i validació dels models i la seva implementació es realitza comparant les prediccions numèriques amb solucions analítiques i dades experimentals. Els resultats demostren la fiabilitat dels models formulats així com el potencial i avantatges oferts pels codis de simulació HPC. Per tant, el resultat d’aquesta tesis és tant la formulació dels models de dany progressiu com el marc numèric de simulació anomenat Alya-VITECOST.

This essay deals with the matrimonial conflicts of Andrés Ascencio and Catalina Guzmán de Ascencio in the novel
Arráncame la vida (1985), by the Mexican author Àngeles Mastretta. The essay uses two points of departure. The society of classes is still alive today and the patriarchal society oppresses women. Taking departure from this base the essay analyses the marriage of the novel´s two protagonists. The goal has been to show that Catalina and Andrés use love and sexuality as arms in their marital battle and that Catalina is oppressed both by the patriarchal society and by her origin in the working class. Full textThis research analyzes the main digital transformations of CCMA (TVC and Catalunya Ràdio) related to the evolution of its audience (linear, digital and social), the digital and social managers’ professional routines of each media between 2014 and 2018, and the future challenges fort this public corporation. For the analysis, we set a methodology that combines a quantitative exploitation of all available audience data for each environment, the development and application of our own matrix, a qualitative analysis through an in-depth interview (digital and social managers) and a prospective survey to national and state experts in the communication sector. All this methodology, except for the expert panel, have been applied to a representative sample of 34 TVC and Catalunya Ràdio programs. The findings reveal that the CCMA steadfastly addresses the challenges that arise from a constantly changing audiovisual market. However, the results present important challenges for their media regarding the aging of the public profile in all areas and for most examined programs. On the other hand, the need to formulate digital strategies that consider an accelerated transformation of professional routines where we find a complex process of transition between linear and digital professional culture. Finally, the experts consider that the Corporation can still reach its maximum potential in the digital field, although they are aware that the current circumstances pose obstacles to reverse the tendencies of consumption and to change the state of the professional structure that we have detected.

Full textMés anllà de les variants geogràfiques, es distingeixen diferents tipus de trompes segons el mecanismo que usen per mesclar l'aire i l'aigua a la capçalera dels arbres. Amb el pas del temps es van anar introduint algunes innovacions que en van millorar el rendiment, com la posada en càrrega de l'escanyall o la immersió de la caixa dels vents.
Es presenten altres aplicacions del mateix principi funcional, com la trompa de buit, el compressor hidràulic d'aire, la bomba d'elevació d'aigua per emulsió amb aire, i altres aplicacions del flux bifàsic.
S'ha construït un model pilot de trompa d'aigua a escala 1:3 en el laboratori del Departament d'Enginyeria Elèctrica (DEE) de la Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) i se n'ha modelitzat el funcionament. Segons mostra aquest anàlisi teòric, els artesans de les trompes de la farga catalana van aconseguir un aprofitament òptim d'aquest giny. Sense donar una explicació científica als fenòmens que s'hi produeixen, es va arribar a un domini suficient de les trompes per competir durant alguns segles amb la combinació de la roda hidràulica i les les manxes. Aquesta màquina té la simplicitat i i versatilitat adequades per adaptar-se al procés de la farga catalana, i aconseguir a la vegada que el procés s'adapti a la trompa.
No va ser fins a finals del s. XIX que es va aconseguir augmentar el rendiment d'aquest tipus de màquines fins als límits que fixa la mecànica de fluids, amb el desenvolupament i construcció de compressors hidràulics d'aire de grans dimensions. Amb l'augment de la pressió de l'aire i la recuperació de l'energia de l'aigua de la caixa dels vents, en forma d'energia potencial, s'aconsegueixen rendiments de conversió de l'energia hidràulica a pneumàtica de fins al 85%, valor molt superior al 15% que devien tenir de promig les trompes d'aigua de les fargues. Malgrat els avantatges de tractar-se d'una compressió isotèrmica, apareixen altres fenòmens secundaris com la dissolució de l'aire en l'aigua, que empobreix en oxigen l'aire comprimit.
Amb la intenció de recuperar l'energia del doll d'aigua de la trompa, s'ha construït i assajat un prototip de màquina elèctrica especial amb entreferro inundable que podria integrar la turbina o hèlix a l'interior del rotor. Es tracta d'una màquina d'inducció, amb un alt número de pols, de baixes revolucions, bifàsica, de molt baixa tensió i alta corrent per espira, debanat de simple capa i un conductor per ranura i fase. S'utilitza la connexió Scott per connectar-lo a un sistema de tensions trifàsic, i dos bobines toroïdals per a l'adaptació d'impedàncies. Per primer cop en aquest tipus de màquines s'ha superat el 50% de lliscament en els assajos a temperatura ambient.
The water trompe or trompe of the Pyrenees is the hydro-pneumatic widget which was used to introduce air in the bloomery furnace of the Catalan Forge, it's to say, the catalan method for obtaining iron from his ores. In this document, all the founded bibliographic references to the water trompe have been collected, analyzed and evaluated, from the oldest, dating from XVIth century, to the modern ones.
Beyond geographical variations, there are different types of trompes according to the mechanism used to mix air and water at the top of the trees. In process of time, some innovations were introduced that improved performance, as the flooding of the entrance of the trees or the submergence of the windbox.
Other applications of the same functional principle are presented, as the vacuum trompe, the hydraulic air compressor, the airlift water pump, and other applications of two-phase flow.
A pilot model of the water trompe has been made in a 1:3 scale, at the laboratory of the Department of Electric Engineering (DEE) of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC), and his operation has been modelled. Theoretical analysis shows that the craftsmen of the Catalan Forge trompes achieved optimal use of this widget. Without giving a scientific explanation for phenomena that occur, it was a sufficient command of the trompes to compete for centuries with the combination of a water wheel and the bellows. This machine is enough simple and versatile to adapt to the Catalan Forge process, and at the same time, to achieve adapt the process to the trompe.
It was not until the end of the XIXth century that the performance of such machines was increased to the limits set by fluid mechanics, with the development and construction of large hydraulic air compressors.
With the increased air pressure and the recovery of energy from the water outgoing the windbox, in form of potential energythe winds in the form of potential energy, yields of 85% of energy conversion from hydraulic to pneumatic were achieved, a value much higher than the 15% that trompes of forges could have in average. Despite the advantages of dealing with an isothermal compression, there are other secondary phenomena such as air dissolving in water, with the result of reducing oxigen concentration in compressed air respect atmospheric air.
With the intention of recovering the energy of the water jet of the trompe, a prototype of a special electric machine has been built and tested. It could integrate the turbine or propeller into the rotor, with a flooded air gap. It's an induction type machine, of a high number of poles, low revolutions, biphasic, very low voltage and high current per turn, with a simple layer winding and only one conductor per slot and phase.Scott connection is used to feed the machine from a three-phase system of voltage. Two toroidal coils are used for impedance adaptation. For the fist time on such type of machines, a sliding of 50% has been axceeded in tests at room temperature.
