Full textThis PhD dissertation is dedicated to the review, the description and the analysis of the visual poetry of Joan Brossa (1919-1998), who is considered one of the most representative figures of the experimental poetry movement of the second half of the 20th century. This corpus combining fine arts and literature techniques is a unique form of expression which is hard to define and circumscribe, but which is central to the work of the poet. Visual poetry is an integral part of the evolution of avant-garde poetry, from the early 20th century to contemporary art. Tracing this history allows us to justify the method and the criteria chosen to establish the catalogue of over a thousand works. This leads us to offering a definition of the visual poem, whether presented in isolation or within the collections of poems Brossa originally created them for. Deprived of a text, can the visual poem be explained through its context? Nothing is less certain because in this case the context is some material directly removed from the “sociological real”, to refer to the New Realists in Paris whose concerns were very similar to the Catalan poet’s. Examining his visual works therefore sheds light on his poetry as a whole. According to Brossa, poetry is not, or no longer is, exclusively literary. His main objective, as a writer and as an artist, is to observe reality with reality, to hold it in his hands and to present it on paper in a way that is not neutral but controlled in order to allow the beholder to enter the scene: the page is a frame with no framing

Full textAquesta tesi doctoral estudia la recreació de la llengua parlada en la poesia de Robert Frost i la traducció de la poesia de Frost duta a terme per Agustí Bartra i Miquel Desclot al català, i per Giovanni Giudici a l’italià. L’estudi descriu el significat del terme mimesi de l’oralitat i les seves principals característiques. Posa l’accent en la complexitat del fenomen, que es pot explicar millor si s’adopta un enfocament teòric i metodològic més eclèctic, que se centra tant en els aspectes lingüístics de la mimesi de l’oralitat com en els possibles efectes en els lectors. El llenguatge poètic de Frost és ben conegut per la seva qualitat parlada. En aquesta recerca defineixo en primer lloc els trets principals de la llengua del poeta i estudio de quina forma la seva evocació de l'oralitat ha estat interpretada pels poetes i traductors Bartra, Desclot i Giudici i de quina manera s'ha entrellaçat amb l’estil poètic propi dels traductors. Les traduccions comparteixen trets comuns que es remunten als patrons estilístics de la poesia original de Frost. No obstant això, també presenten solucions estilístiques divergents que poden ser atribuïdes a cada traductor. Mitjançant la contextualització d’aquestes opcions personals de traducció és possible aconseguir una millor comprensió de les causes que les han motivades. Això porta la investigació a examinar qüestions relacionades amb la ideologia dels traductors i el seu compromís cultural.

Full textAquesta tesi ofereix una revisió de les manifestacions literàries femenines dels segles XVI-XVIII a l’àmbit lingüístic català, centrada especialment en el gènere poètic. La invisibilitat de les dones als manuals històrics o literaris, amb l’excepció d’algunes poques figures més brillants, havien portat a la creença de la inexistència de dones escriptores a l’Edat Moderna en aquest territori. El treball, dividit en dos volums, consta de quatre parts: en la primera part s’ofereix un estudi pertinent de les escriptores i dels gèneres conreats, en la seva evolució diacrònica. Per fer-ho, s’analitza l’accés de les dones a la cultura escrita al llarg dels segles del període, tenint en compte la concepció social del gènere femení imperant a l’època que limitava les actuacions de les dones als espais privats. Paral·lelament, s’estableix una primera caracterització del fenomen de l’escriptura femenina a l’univers literari català, amb un examen de les autores conegudes i documentades. La segona part de la tesi està centrada en l’examen dels textos poètics femenins exhumats, independentment de la llengua emprada: el llatí, la llengua d’alta cultura; el català, la llengua vernacla del poble i, el castellà, la llengua de la monarquia, en què escriuen la majoria de les escriptores del període. En aquest apartat, s’aprofundeix sobre els principals espais de difusió poètica femenina durant aquests segles, mai abordats seriosament per la crítica, i que, en línies generals classifiquem segons els dos espais d’enunciació dels textos: d’una banda, els espais profans, en els quals s’emmarca la poesia presentada als certàmens i acadèmies, la poesia laudatòria inclosa en els preliminars d’altres obres i algunes peces de poetes seglars poc conegudes; i, d’altra banda, els espais religiosos, dels quals prové la poesia monàstica, la més abundant, que sovint respon a les dinàmiques conventuals i a l’expressió de la devoció de les religioses. Full textThe main goal of this thesis is to contribute to filling the bibliographical gap regarding the religiousness of Màrius Torres (1910-1942). The first part focuses on his religious antecedents. It features a reconstruction of the history of Modern Spiritism, analyses the published works of the first spiritists from Lleida, and examines the written work of Marià Torres and Humbert Torres, the poet's father, and grandfather. The second part of this thesis focuses on Màrius Torres himself. On the one hand, it looks into the purpose of poetry in his life, and it sets out an itinerary through his work to highlight its esthetic and religious dimension. On the other hand, it delves into the author's main vital attitudes, especially those that reveal his religious sensitivity. Lastly, there is an analysis of his ideas regarding different religious topics in opposition to those of his relatives.

Full textFrancesc Fontanella va escriure setanta-set composicions amoroses dedicades a Gileta, criptònim de Maria Teresa Ham, que s’han transmès generalment com un conjunt unitari sota el nom de giletes. Conformen un dels blocs de l’obra de l’escriptor que més s’ha difós en la tradició manuscrita, i fins i tot en tres dels manuscrits unitaris importants disposen d’una portada pròpia. La investigació té tres parts principals: primerament, l’edició crítica dels poemes; en segon lloc, l’estudi, que inclou la recepció dels textos (imitacions incloses), les fonts, models i influències literàries i l’anàlisi delsignificat dels versos; i finalment, la difusió de la recerca. L’objectiu principal de la tesi és l’estudi de les giletes per tal de reivindicar el lloc preponderant que els correspon dins de la literatura catalana moderna.

A partir dels resultats obtinguts en aquesta anàlisi, s’ha realitzat un estudi comparatiu entre les obres poètiques dels tres autors per tal d’establir les concomitàncies i les discrepàncies en la representació i el tractament de la temàtica eròtica. Com que la producció poètica d’aquests autors es troba emmarcada en tres períodes històrics determinats, breus i distints, l’objectiu principal de la tesi doctoral és establir quina ha estat l’evolució de la presència, la representació i el tractament de l’erotisme al llarg de la poesia catalana del segle XX.

Full textUn des recours courants du langage de la presse et de la publicité, le défigement, apparaît aussi comme une ressource stylistique importante de la poésie moderne. Nous définissons le défigement comme un recours linguistique qui consiste en la modification du signifié et, souvent, du signifiant d’un phrasème ayant pour résultat le déblocage de sa contrainte sémantique et syntaxique. Le défigement a lieu à condition que l’énoncé final (cible) suggère au récepteur le phrasème initial (source). La fonction métalinguistique, les mécanismes de transformation, les métamorphoses sémantiques et les effets stylistiques du défigement présentent, à notre avis, un intérêt scientifique pour les linguistes. Nous prenons comme objet de recherche les énoncés défigés dans des textes poétiques contemporains et ce en six langues (français, espagnol catalan ; russe, bélarusse, polonais) dans une perspective contrastive plurilingue. Nos objectifs visent à : 1) analyser un vaste corpus de textes poétiques au moyen des outils conceptuels développés, principalement, dans le cadre de la Théorie Sens-Texte ; 2) identifier et systématiser les exemples de défigement dans chacune des six langues mentionnées ; 3) fournir des éléments linguistiques formalisés pour définir les effets stylistiques du défigement dans la poésie moderne. Nous avançons trois principales typologies de défigement qui se complètent (selon le mécanisme de transformation d’un phrasème initial ; selon sa classe et sa sous-classe sémantico-syntaxique ; selon sa catégorie grammaticale ou sa fonction syntaxique dans la phrase), ce qui nous permet d’aboutir à une organisation et une description plus adéquate des exemples repérés dans les corpora. Structurellement, nous divisons notre recherche en deux grandes parties : la partie théorico-méthodologique et la partie pratique, consacrée à l’analyse des exemples. Ainsi, nous commençons la thèse par un état de la question où nous résumons des approches existantes sur l’étude du défigement ; nous introduisons ensuite les concepts théoriques de base concernant surtout les différents types de figement. La partie pratique du travail contient une description détaillée des collocations, des locutions et des unités phrastiques défigées. La partie des conclusions générales inclut les résultats de la recherche et les observations sur d’éventuelles perspectives scientifiques de la présente étude. Les corpora, qui fournissent le matériel constituant la base de notre recherche, occupent la section des annexes.
As a regular device of the language of press and advertising, the defrosting is also an important stylistic resource of modern poetry. We define the defrosting, or unfrozeness, as a linguistic device that consists in modifying the signifier and often the signified of a phraseme and which results in the unblocking of its semantic and syntactic restriction. The defrosting is considered as such only when the final statement (the target statement) suggests to the reader or listener the original phraseme (the source phraseme). In our opinion, the metalinguistic function, the transformation mechanisms, the semantic metamorphosis and the stylistic effects of the defrosting are of scientific interest to the linguists. We take as object of research the unfrozen statements in modern poetic texts in six languages (French, Spanish, Catalan; Russian, Belarusian, Polish) in a multilingual contrastive perspective. Our purposes are: 1) to analyze a large corpus of poems by means of conceptual tools developed mainly within the framework of the Meaning-Text Theory; 2) to identify and systematize the examples of defrosting in each of the six languages; 3) to provide formal linguistic elements to define the stylistic effects of defrosting in modern poetry. We propose three main typologies of defrosting that complete each other (a typology according to a transformation mechanism of a initial phraseme; a typology according to its semantic and syntactic class and subclass; a typology according to its grammatical category or syntactic function in the sentence), which helps us to achieve a better organization and a more adequate description of the examples identified in corpora. Structurally, we divide our research into two parts: the theoretical and methodological part and the practical part that is dedicated to the analysis of the examples. Thus, we begin the thesis with the state-of-art, a brief review of the different approaches to the study of defrosting; we introduce then the basic theoretical concepts concerning especially the different types of phraseological fixation, or frozening. The practical part of the work contains a detailed description of the unfrozen collocations, idioms and phrasal units. The part of the general conclusions includes the results of our research and the comments about possible scientific perspectives of this study. Our corpora, that provide the material forming the basis of our research, occupy the section of the appendices.

Full textFra Bernat Hug de Rocabertí (c.1420-1485) fou un membre destacat de l'Orde de l'Hospital a la Corona d'Aragó en la qual va arribar a assolir la dignitat de Castellà d'Amposta, la més important d'aquest orde a la Corona. En el treball es fa una biografia històrica del personatge, des que va entrar a l'orde de la mà del seu cunyat, fra Joan de Vilagut, fins que va esdevenir un home de confiança del rei Joan II i al seu costat va participar a la Guerra Civil Catalana del segle XV. En paral·lel, Rocabertí també es va dedicar a la poesia i va compondre almenys dues peces, l'Estrampa, fins avui inèdita i que s'edita críticament, i La glòria d'amor, un llarg poema narratiu, del qual es fa un estudi de la possible cronologia. Per altra banda, també s'estudia altres personatges lligats a Bernat Hug, com el seus germans, autors d'unes interessants lletres de batalla que també s'editen, o els seus cunyats, entre els que destaca Joan de Vilagut, poeta també, alhora que s'aporten dades sobre Guillem Tinter, amb qui Vilagut va tenir un intercanvi poètic. El conjunt del treball s'acompanya amb la transcripció d'una interessant col·lecció de documents d'arxiu.

Full textThis work aims to claim the importance of the poetic work of Apeles Mestres, one of the most prolific and representative authors of the turn of the nineteenth century and the first decades of the twentieth. During the eighties and nineties, he represented an alternative to the paradigm of the Floral Games, but soon he was left in the background due to the emergence of Maragall—who, however, acknowledges his mastery—until the outbreak of the Noucentisme. Mestres' versatile character as a creator—caricaturist, poet, playwright and, at the end of his days, melodist—has not at all favoured his literary production, often subordinated to the ensemble; on the contrary, it has led to trivialisation based on the exaggeration of anecdotal events. This line has coexisted with isolated, rigorous studies that, especially during the two decades of the new millennium, propose new readings of his work, disconnected from the prejudices that had accumulated, and began a recovery process. This thesis forms part of aforementioned tendency with the aim of studying in detail Mestres' poetry and offering a cross-sectional view that embraces the author's career since the publication of Avant, in 1875, until Montserratines, in 1930, and without forgetting the narrative production that, with the collection of the Films stories, shifts the final date of the corpus to 1935. This research has different sources that cannot be contemplated independently: on the one hand, I have considered it essential to review the poet's life within its context, and I have emphasised his participation in the controversies that condition the evolution of the Catalan literature of the era. On the other hand, I have reviewed the poem books and organised them according to two focus points: the reception they had at the time of publication and my reading based on the most representative or innovative features of each volume. I finish this study with the outline of an ironic function that covers more or less all the poetic corpus of these almost five decades of poetic production. To reach this approach, I have examined the main contributions of theoreticians of irony and the analysis of scholars who, in the field of Catalan studies, have already applied these readings to authors active between the end of the nineteenth century and beginning of the twentieth.

Full textThe main objective of this study is to know whether the teaching of poetry can be approached from a methodology which develops critical and reflective thinking in students. Specifically, it has been analysed if the reading of Brossa’s poetry contributes to the development of critical thinking in secondary students. This has been addressed based on literary education, critical thinking and experimental poetry. The investigation has been performed in three 10th grade groups (4th of ESO) from two public high schools in the region of Maresme and it includes the answers of the students based on the teaching sequences that have been presented to them, the surveys and the assessment rubrics. In addition to the class observation and the realization of diaries by the teachers. A qualitative approach based on research-action has been used to collect, create and analyse data. The results demonstrate that Brossa’s poetry makes students ponder, since it allows them to express their own opinions and it also gives them the chance to ask questions that make them doubt about different perspectives they may have. From the ten categories of analysis of the teaching sequences, it can be appreciated that at least one group from each high school has reached satisfactory results in the realisation of the requested work. Furthermore, the characteristics that a poetry corpus needs to have in order to help students think can also be deduced from the obtained data: It must be comprehensible, exciting, stimulating, revealing (it has to allow the discovery of new perspectives), linking (it must make possible the establishment of relations, comparisons and different choices), questionable and that you can explore. Finally, the results of this study show that encouraging reasoning one’s opinion is a highly important educational act because educating in critical thinking also means asking students to justify the reason of their own ideas, their own statements, accepting that ideas can be changed after listening to the other one’s perspective. And therefore, it is concluded that poetry can be taught through an educational approach that makes students develop their critical reasoning easier.

Full textThe Medicina de pecat is a long treatise in verse by Ramon Llull that was conceived as a spiritual guide for Christian sinners who, through the practice of devotional and doctrinal exercises, want to purify their soul and find their way towards eternal salvation. The structure of this work consists of different parts and chapters that constitute formal and meaningful units, which are susceptible to being read separately from the main piece. Soon this feature caused the text to be disseminated in two different ways: on the one hand, the treatise as a piece consisting of different parts; and, on the other hand, some text units that were disassociated from the macro-structure and disseminated as independent opuscules. This doctoral thesis aims to offer a study of the whole tradition of the Medicina de pecat, a reconstruction of the text based on an ecdotic analysis of all its tradition, and an interpretation of the versed treatise in which two main aspects are considered: the position of the work regarding Ramon Llull’s oeuvre and the strategies carried out by Llull to effectively promote his intellectual programme and his missionary projects. To the purpose of this study, all textual and historical extant-data regarding the composition and the dissemination of the Medicina de pecat have been sorted and analysed, and a critical edition of the complete text has been prepared, which is the first one that takes into account the entire textual tradition preserved and that is based on philological objective criteria.

Full textThe approach of the work is based on two observations: the study requires an interdisciplinary silence and talking about it is a paradox in itself. The approach is made taking into account the great significance in art in general and poetry in particular, where its influence has been decisive, especially since the twentieth century. Throughout this paper, we highlight the poetic silence, or rather, their ability eloquence, her dowry suggestion, their suitability to express the ineffable mystery as voice and as a source of mystery, and, ultimately, its indisputable role as a transmitter of life experience and artistic poets. Full textThis doctoral thesis studies the whole of the written work of Josep Anselm Clavé, the literary one as well as the journalistic one. The research has been conceived in such a way that it includes not only a global analysis of his known poetic work and of the «Eco de Euterpe» and «El Metrónomo», but also the critical edition of the complete poetic work of Josep Anselm Clavé and the indexing of the contents of the two magazines. In the context of the Catalan cultural tradition, the figure and the work of Josep Anselm Clavé has been correlated with the cultural movement called Renaixença, and its mythification has conditioned the analyses made at the end of the 19th century and during all the 20th century. Therefore, this work studies the poetry of Clavé and its cultural context to certify this mythification and to make evident how it affects its interpretation. Moreover, this doctoral tesis analyzes the magazines that were directed by Clavé —«Eco de Euterpe» and «El Metrónomo»— in order to show the confluence of approaches, objectives and ideas that allow us to speak about construction of a cultural project. The more representative years of the relation between poetry and journalism in Clavé were the ones between 1859 and 1865, when a) he published in «Eco de Euterpe» and «El Metrónomo» a kind of poetry based in the imitative representation, and b) when he changed their musical works into a kind of collective expression. This poetry, with more realistic scenes, and the use of the music as an agglutinative element of worker class let us expose the parallelisms between this phenomenon of regeneration of the popular culture of masses and the recovery of the tradition of Jocs Florals during the Renaixença.

Alterity and writing in the work of Gabriel Ferrater, Maria-Mercè Marçal and Enric Casasses The starting point of this research is the need to review contemporary Catalan poetry from the parameters of a literary theory that embrace the representation of desire. Considering the close relation between this theoretical framework and the new approaches to the postmodern lyric subject, this thesis studies three important poetics that in their own socioliterary context have imprinted a turning point in Catalan poetry: Gabriel Ferrater, Maria-Mercè Marçal and Enric Casasses. In addition to the study of the modern division between writing and the exaltation of a unified and monolithic subjectivity, this thesis analyzes the rhetoric and ontological possibilities that coparticipate in the inscription of a postmodern lyrical subject and poetic endeavor. Furthermore, this thesis particularly reflects on the construction of textual identity for the lyrical self, which is understood as a quest for one’s own subjectivity. The thesis’ final part studies love alterity as a core for the representation and experimentation of the boundaries of the poetic subject. The theoretical approaches on the representation of desire ―which are inscribed in a poststructuralist positioning together with feminist literary criticism― set the terms for the methodological guidelines that justify the chosen triangle. These approaches also allowed us to demonstrate how the erotic-love poetry is the epicenter of the poetry and poetics of these three authors. The exegesis of their work has oriented the research towards the study of the constructions of the lyrical self, paying special attention to: a) writing, opening towards the Other, b) the subject of enunciation as desiring subject, c) the representations of the loving other, d) the writing of desire, and e) moral and poetics. Lastly, we have outlined the itineraries that give shape to the writing of desire in Catalan poetry and, we have emphasized as an opening gesture, how the poetics of the three authors establish new poetic subjectivities through the rhetoric of love alterity.

Full textJoaquim Rubió i Ors es un poeta muy presente en las historias de la literatura catalana pero su poesía es totalmente desconocida, fuera de los círculos académicos y eruditos, habiendo disfrutado de una popularidad insólita que luego le ha sido negada, hasta caer casi la totalidad de su obra en el olvido más absoluto, como la inmensa mayoría de la poesía del ochocientos hasta Jacint Verdaguer, debido a un cúmulo de prejuicios estéticos que se han ido creando a lo largo del siglo XX. Esta tesis representa el primer estudio biográfico a fondo del poeta y la primera edición completa de su poesía en catalán desde su muerte. Desde el 1902, fecha de aparición del cuarto volumen de la tercera edición de Lo Gaiter del Llobregat comenzada en vida y acabada póstumamente por su hijo Antoni Rubio i Lluch , su poesía solo ha sido publicada en antologías, y siempre la misma media docena de poemas, si exceptuamos la edición que hice yo mismo en 2006 para Edicions 62 con los poemas del primer Gaiter. La tesis propone y justifica un texto a partir del estudio de los diferentes manuscritos y las diferentes ediciones hechas en vida del poeta.
Joaquim Rubió i Ors is a poet very present in the histories of Catalan literature but his poetry is totally unknown, outside the academic and scholarly circles, having enjoyed an unusual popularity that later has been denied to him, until falling almost the totality of his work in the most absolute oblivion, like the vast majority of the poetry of the 19th Century until Jacint Verdaguer, due to an accumulation of aesthetic prejudices that have been created throughout the 20th Century. This thesis represents the first in-depth biographical study of the poet and the first complete edition of his poetry in Catalan since his death. Since 1902, the date of publication of the fourth volume of the third edition of Lo Gaiter del Llobregat, begun in life and finished posthumously by his son Antoni Rubió i Lluch, his poetry has only been published in anthologies, and always the same half a dozen poems, except for the edition I made myself in 2006 for Edicions 62 with the poems of the first Gaiter. The thesis proposes and justifies a text based on the study of the different manuscripts and the different editions made during the poet's lifetime.

Antoni Pous, poet and translator, is a monographic study on Antoni Pous i Argila (Manlleu, 1932 -- Barcelona, 1976), the cultural activist and man of letters who distinguished himself from an early age as a highly gifted poet, during the immediate post-war period; who in the 1960s developed an important cultural and pedagogical work in Igualada, while founding the group Lacetània and creating the magazine Textos; who since 1968 decisively encouraged the studies of Catalan language and literature in the German-speaking world, first in Tübingen and then in Zürich; and who finally, thanks to his translations, introduced to the Catalan literary world the work of two classical authors from the XXth century: Walter Benjamin and Paul Celan.
This thesis is divided into four main parts: the first with the title "The Man", reconstructs Pous' biography based on his own writings, many of them still unpublished, as well as on the testimony of those who knew him personally, using both correspondence and the taped interviews especially made for the present work; the second part, called "The Thought", analyses the prose by Pous, both published and unpublished, in order to outline his ideas about religion, philosophy, politics and literature; the third part, called "The Poetry", collects and comments upon his poetic work, for the most part unpublished, describing the evolution from his first period, influenced by Carles Riba, to the hermetism of his last phase, under the influence of Paul Celan, through his social poetry from the late 1960s; finally, the fourth part is called "The Translations", which catalogues and analyzes the versions made by Pous of poetic, theological and philosophical texts into Catalan, particularly from the German, focusing mainly on his own selection of texts by Walter Benjamin and Paul Celan, the first translations ever made into Catalan, as well as his versions of XXth century Catalan poetry into German, in collaboration with Johannes Hösle.
Besides being the first exhaustive study on this figure, up till now practically unknown in our literature, Antoni Pous, poet and translator also provides first-hand, scarcely studied data on different aspects of Catalan literature and culture in the third quarter of the XXth century, as the formation of the so called "Vic Group" and the relationship this group had, through Joan Triadú, with Carles Riba, or the friendship between Antoni Pous, Miquel Martí i Pol and Jordi Sarsanedas, which was one of fruitful and mutual influence.

Una vida, lejos de Cataluña, que hay que reseguir a través de la correspondencia con algunas de las principales personalidades del país, como Tomás Garcés, Pau Casals, o Marià Manent. Su poesía, de herencia romántica, es un cruce de caminos de influencias simbolistas, postsimbolistas y surrealistas, que tiene en el mundo infantil el pilar básico. A partir del añorado mundo de la infancia el poeta construye una obra sólida que tiene en el símbolo y la imagen sus recursos principales. Junto al estudio de la poesía, el trabajo quiere ofrecer una edición crítica de todos los poemarios ageletianos a partir de las primeras ediciones y anotando en aparato la evolución del texto para constatar el proceso constante de revisión que Agelet somete a su obra y el extraordinario grado de fidelidad a unos mismos principios poéticos.
The present work is a study of the life and work of poet Jaume Agelet i Garriga. A life away from Catalonia, which can be followed through his correspondence with some of the leading national personalities such as Tomàs Garcés, Pau Casals, and Marià Manent. His poetry, of romantic inheritance, is a crossroads of symbolist, post-symbolist and surrealist influences. His poetry is built from children's world, symbols and imagery. Apart from the study of poetry, the work aims to provide a critical edition of all poems by Agelet.

Full textAquesta tesi doctoral es proposa descriure i valorar les traduccions al català de poesia en llengua anglesa durant el període comprès entre els anys 1990 i 2010. El propòsit de la tesi és plantejar un enfocament teòric per a l’estudi de la traducció de poesia basat en la retòrica. S’hi estudien fins a vint traduccions, a fi d’oferir un mostrari prou variat, ampli i divers que permeti assolir l’objectiu proposat. Tots els poetes en llengua anglesa que formen part del corpus han publicat, majoritàriament, la seva obra, durant els segles XX i XXI. Aquesta delimitació cronològica impedeix aplicar una metodologia historicista que no encaixaria amb els objectius sincrònics i teòrics d’aquesta tesi. Així doncs, la metodologia emprada és comparatista, descriptiva i empírica. El mètode comparatiu és del tot inevitable a l’hora d’aprofundir en l’estudi de qualsevol text traduït, perquè la traducció obliga a acarar dos textos: el text de partida i el text d’arribada. El mètode descriptiu i empíric permet arribar a conclusions contrastables, per tal com la tesi parteix sempre dels textos analitzats i prèviament descrits. La tesi es proposa demostrar que els textos de poesia traduïts poden ser descrits, estudiats i avaluats a partir de la retòrica, una disciplina que, des dels seus orígens, ha estat vinculada a la gramàtica i a la poètica, per la qual cosa es basa en el coneixement dels procediments del llenguatge característics de la literatura

Full textLa presente tesis intentará clasificar las traducciones de poemas clásicos chinos a diversas lenguas occidentales y, a poder ser, ofrecer una interpretación de nuestras clasificaciones en función del contexto histórico general y del contexto más específico de la historia de la traducción. Para conseguir dicho objetivo, analizaremos, siguiendo el método comparativo, un número considerable de versiones poéticas en cuatro lenguas occidentales (inglés, francés, castellano, catalán) desde el siglo XIX hasta hoy. Estableceremos un método pragmático, un modelo de análisis que permita llegar a conclusiones claras y determinantes basándonos en aspectos que abrazan los tres grandes ámbitos de la poesía: el lingüístico, el literario en su aspecto esencialmente intertextual, y finalmente su origen y proyección socio-cultural. Tales ámbitos son los que define Holmes en el artículo “Rebuilding the Bridge at Bommel: Notes on the Limits of Translatability” (1988). Por consiguiente, nuestro trabajo parte de las siguientes hipótesis: por un lado, a nivel metodológico, creemos que el análisis estadístico permite mostrar y objetivar las constantes en el estilo de los traductores de poesía china a lo largo de la historia; por otro lado, a nivel de contenido, partimos de la hipótesis de que existe también una evolución cronológica, en términos muy generales, según la cual en las traducciones más antiguas predomina la función de domesticación mientras que las más recientes se adscriben más a un estilo extranjerizante. Es evidente que estas dos tendencias, la primera fase de domesticación y la segunda de extranjerización, surgen al amparo de las condiciones históricas del contexto occidental: por una parte, del progreso en las relaciones entre las culturas occidentales y la cultura china; y por otra, de las tendencias estéticas predominantes en las mismas culturas occidentales.
This thesis will attempt to classify translations of classical Chinese poems into various western languages and, if possible, offer an interpretation of our classifications based on the general historical context and the more specific context of the history of translation. To achieve this objective, we will analyze, following the comparative method, a considerable number of poetic versions in four Western languages (English, French, Spanish, Catalan) from the 19th century to today. We will establish a pragmatic method, an analysis model that allows us to reach clear and decisive conclusions, and base it on aspects that embrace the three great areas of poetry: the linguistic, the literary in its essentially intertextual aspect, and finally its origin and socio-cultural projection. Such areas are defined by Holmes in the article "" Rebuilding the Bridge at Bommel: Notes on the Limits of Translatability"" (1988). Consequently, our work starts from the following hypotheses: on the one hand, at a methodological level, we believe that statistical analysis allows us to show and objectify the constants in the style of Chinese poetry translators throughout history; On the other hand, at the content level, we start from the hypothesis that there is also a chronological evolution, in very general terms, according to which in the oldest translations the domestication function predominates while the more recent ones are ascribed more to a style foreignizing. It is evident that these two tendencies, the first phase of domestication and the second of foreignization, arise under the protection of the historical conditions of the Western context: on the one hand, the progress in the relations between Western cultures and Chinese culture; and on the other, of the predominant aesthetic tendencies in Western cultures themselves.

Full textThe Angolan Alda Lara and Paula Tavares, the Cape Verdean Vera Duarte, the Mozambican Noémia de Sousa and the Santomean Alda Espírito Santo and Conceição Lima are the writers who best represent the poetry authored by women in their respective countries and, although belonging to very distinct socioeconomic and cultural contexts, their works approach both thematically and as a project of social construction of the female subject. Therefore, our work is based specially in the studies of Michel de Certeau (2005) and Maria Odila da Silva Leite Dias (1992, 1994, 1998) concerning the hermeneutics of everyday life of women in order to demonstrate the importance of informal roles, the experiences of women and the resistance in the formation of their subjectivities. We also recall the reports based on different censuses and documents prepared by international bodies such as the United Nations and UNESCO to establish points of contact between the situation of women and the social-historical contexts in which they are inscribed: Angola, Cape Verde, Mozambique and São Tome and Principe. Finally, combining the theoretical and contextual aspects, we analyzed poems contained in the initiation works of each of the aforementioned authors respectively - Poemas (1966), Ritos de passagem (1985), Amanhã amadrugada (1993), Sangue negro (2001), É nosso o solo sagrado da terra (1978) and O útero da casa (2004) and we demonstrated that even though women often suffer from an almost silenced voice, marked by the offal of daily life, they inscribed their mark on society having the power of (trans)form it. Hence, this is the origin of the title of our thesis, Of beads and machetes which illustrates the symbols of resistance undertaken by the authors for the blossoming of their subjectivities and for the registering of their historicities.

Full textUntil now Joan Maragall's religious thought has not been the object of an extensive and methodical study. This thesis aims to offer a systematization of his religious thought within the framework of an intellectual biography which allows for the visualization of its evolution and development. For the purpose of this analysis, the intellectual biography has been divided in four stages: 1) the romantic period of the religion of beauty (1860-1890); 2) the positivist period, from the exaltation of the strong to the Christianization of the excelsior (1890-1901); 3) the modernist neo-spiritualist period (1901-1906), and 4) the last period (1906-1911). Maragall develops a specific terminology for his thought and gives it a coherent and unified form in the last stage. From a clearly anti-ascetic position though not anti-mystic , Maragall detects the existence of moments when temporality is suspended «moments of eternity» , the experience of which allows for the overcoming of the distinction between earthly and otherworldly.
