Abstract:
Purpose The CATALISE group (Bishop, Snowling, Thompson, Greenhalgh, & CATALISE Consortium, 2016; Bishop, Snowling, Thompson, Greenhalgh, & CATALISE-2 Consortium, 2017) recommended that the term developmental language disorder (DLD) be used to refer to neurodevelopmental language deficit. In this tutorial, we explain the appropriate application of the term and present advantages in adhering to the CATALISE recommendations. Conclusion Both specific language impairment and DLD refer to a neurodevelopmental condition that impairs spoken language, is long-standing and, is not associated with any known causal condition. The applications of the terms specific language impairment and DLD differ in breadth and the extent to which identification depends upon functional impact. Use of the term DLD would link advocacy efforts in the United States to those in other English-speaking countries. The criteria for identifying DLD presented in the CATALISE consensus offer opportunities for scientific progress while aligning well with practice in U.S. public schools.

Seiring dengan meningkatnya aktivitas, manusia semakin memerlukan alat transportasi yang aman, nyaman dan memadai sebagai sarana pendukung mobilitas. Akibatnya, seiring perkembangan zaman jumlah arus lalu lintas dan jenis kendaraan yang menggunakan ruas-ruas jalan semakin bertambah. Hal ini menimbulkan masalah dibidang transportasi, salah satunya adalah masalah tekanan balik, suhu dan polusi suara (kebisingan) yang ditimbulkan dari knalpot kendaraan. Oleh karena itu, upaya untuk mereduksi kebisingan dan tekanan balik dari muffler kendaraan perlu dilakukan. Salah satunya dengan menggunakan dual bed catalitic converter berbahan tembaga dan kuningan. Dual bed catalytic converter berfungsi sebagai peredeuksi emisi sekaligus dapat merduksi kebisingan dan meningkatkan performa mesin. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui seberapa besar peningkatan performa mesin dengan menggunakan dual bed converter berbahan tembaga dan kuningan pada sepeda motor Honda Vario Techno. Penelitian yang dilakukan adalah penelitian eksperimen (experimental research). Analisis data menggunakan metode deskriftif kuantitatif. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa penggunaan dual bed catalytic converter berbahan tembaga dan pada sepeda motor Vario Techno 125 CC dapat meningkatkan torsi (torque), daya (power) dan menurunkan tingkat kebisingan. Peningkatan torsi tertinggi pada catalitic kuningan-tembaga sebesar 16,70 % didapatkan pada putaran 4000 rpm dan catalitic tembaga-kuningan sebesar 10,06% didapatkan pada putaran 8000 rpm. Peningkatan daya efektif catalitic Kuningan-Tembaga tertinggi sebesar 2,40 % didapatkan pada putaran 3000 rpm, sedangkan catalitic tembaga kuningan tertinggi sebesar 3,20%. Selain itu dual bed catalitic converter berbahan tembaga dan kuningan pada knalpot sepeda motor Honda Vario Techno 125 CC dapat menurunkan tingkat kebisingan tertinggi pada catalitic Tembaga-Kuningan sebesar 3,08 % didapatkan pada putaran 4000 rpm dan penurunan tingkat kebisingan tertinggi pada catalitic Kuningan-Tembaga sebesar 5.6% pada putaran 4000 rpm.

Bien que le trouble développemental du langage (TDL) soit fréquent (7,58 %; Norbury et al., 2016) et ait des impacts perdurant jusqu'à l’âge adulte (Feeney, Desha, Khan, Ziviani, & Nicholson, 2016), il est beaucoup moins connu que d’autres problématiques telles que le trouble du déficit de l’attention avec ou sans hyperactivité (TDAH) ou le trouble du spectre de l’autisme (TSA). L’inconstance des définitions selon les domaines (p. ex., médecine, éducation, psychologie, orthophonie) pourrait partiellement expliquer cette méconnaissance (Bishop, 2017). Depuis peu, une terminologie et une démarche menant au diagnostic de TDL font l’objet d’un consensus international multidisciplinaire, et ce, grâce au projet CATALISE (Bishop, Snowling, Thompson, Greenhalgh, & CATALISE-consortium, 2016, 2017). Le but de cet article est de présenter une mise à jour des enjeux et des connaissances actuelles liés au TDL en s’intéressant aux changements d’appellation et de critères initiés par le projet CATALISE. Pour les professionnels et chercheurs œuvrant dans le domaine, il s’agit d’une occasion de réfléchir aux besoins des personnes vivant avec un TDL.

Abstract:
Delphastus catalinae (Horn) (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae) is a predator of whiteflies and is sold by commercial insectaries to help manage Bemisia tabaci (Gennadius). This beetle is tropical in origin, but feral populations in the USA are known to persist in southern California and in central and southern Florida. Field populations of D. catalinae are not known to occur in northern Florida, GA, or South Carolina, and there has not been any report of field releases in these areas. A study was conducted to determine the ability of D. catalinae to survive in regions with mild winters where B. tabaci survives year-round, such as coastal South Carolina and northern Florida. Delphastus catalinae was sampled in field cages from December to April in 2002–2004. Only a few individuals were collected at the end of each winter. In the laboratory, at a constant temperature of 15°C, adult survival was up to 9 months (269 d), whereas survival was up to 16 d at 5°C. Without food, adult longevity was decreased by about 90%. A sample of the population from a laboratory test indicated that old females (at least 242 d) produced viable eggs. Eggs held at 5°C did not hatch, whereas 48% of those held at 15°C hatched. Conversely, 98% of eggs held at 25°C hatched. At 15°C, none of the larvae survived to the pupal stage, whereas at 25°C, 86% of the larvae survived to the adult stage. Winter temperatures near freezing may result in excessive D. catalinae mortality and few or no survivals at the end of the winter. These results help define the impact of long-term low temperatures on the northern geographical limit of D. catalinae and will aid in whitefly management decisions regarding this predator.

Two new deep-sea cumaceans, Diastylis andeepae and D. catalinae are described from the Weddell Sea. Diastylis andeepae n. sp. can be distinguished from other members of the genus by a combination of characters including: carapace with small tubercles all over and anterior part with an arched row of teeth extending from each side of the pseudorostrum and disappearing a short distance before reaching the inferior margin of the carapace, ischium of the pereopod 2 with four strong teeth, endopod uropod of two articles. Diastylis catalinae n. sp. is a closely related species to D. richardi Fage 1929 recorded from the Bay of Biscay, however D. catalinae can be easily separated from D. richardi by having: (1) on each side of the anterior part of the carapace several teeth arranged in two non-uniform rows (randomly distributed and with two antero−lateral horns in D. richardi); (2) clearly visible pereonites 1 and 2 in dorsal view (hardly visible in D. richardi); (3) one tooth on each postero−lateral angle of the pereonite 5 (without teeth in D.richardi); and (4) one minute simple seta on article 4 of the antenna 2 (a long setulate seta in D. richardi).

Abstract:
Aleurothrixus (formerly known as Aleurotrachelus) trachoides Back (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae), commonly known as pepper or solanum whitefly, is a new emerging whitefly pest of several horticultural crops in the United States. During the preliminary survey for pepper whitefly infestation in Florida, a whitefly-specific predatory beetle Delphastus catalinae Horn (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae) was observed associated with this pest in the natural ecosystem. The current study was undertaken to determine the efficacy of this naturally occurring predator, D. catalinae, and an entomopathogenic fungus, Cordyceps (formerly known as Isaria) fumosorosea (Cfr) (Wize) (Hypocreales: Cordycipitaceae), alone or in combination, under controlled laboratory conditions. Whitefly mortality for Cfr (88%), beetle (100%) and Cfr + beetle (100%) treatments were similar and significantly higher compared to control. In the combination treatment, Cfr did not impact D. catalinae longevity and daily food intake, indicating a neutral interaction between the two treatments. Results showed that both of these natural biological control agents could potentially offer an effective alternative in the battle against invasive whiteflies such as pepper whitefly in U.S. horticulture production, either as a stand-alone strategy or in an integrated approach. Although these findings are promising, compatibility of the two treatments needs to be evaluated further under greenhouse and semi-field conditions before recommending to commercial growers.

Cette thèse rapporte le développement de la réaction de cyclopropanation des nitriles. Cette réaction nécessite l'utilisation d'un complexe de titane qui peut être obtenu soit par addition de réactifs de Grignard sur le tétraisopropoxytitane ou à l'aide de la méthodologie de l'échange de ligand. Dans un premier temps, une synthèse de cyclopropylamines bicycliques a été effectuée par cyclopropanation de nitriles insaturés. Ensuite, une réaction formelle de cycloaddition [4+1] entre un diène et un nitrile a permis la synthèse de dérivés de cyclopenténylamine. La méthodologie de l'échange de ligands a été utilisée dans ces deux nouvelles réactions. La cyclopropanation avec des substrats portant, à la fois, une fonction nitrile et une fonction ester a pu être réalisée à l'aide d'une quantité catalytique en isopropoxytitane. Une étude approfondie de la réaction a conduit à une synthèse courte et efficace de préparation des dérivés de l'acide aminocyclopropane carboxylique. Une version catalytique asymétrique de la cyclopropanation des cyanoesters a alors été envisagée et la réaction a pu être réalisé pour la première fois avec un complexe où le titane est ligandé à un TADDOL. Enfin, la réaction de cyclopropanation sur des dérivés de sucres a permis la synthèse, en peu d'étapes, d'iminosucres. Le potentiel biologique de ces produits a été évalué et l'un d'entre eux s'est révélé être un inhibiteur sélectif de l'α-L-fucosidase
This thesis deals with the development of the cyclopropanation of nitriles. This reaction involves a titanium complex which can be obtained either by addition of a Grignard reagent on tetraisopropoxytitane or by the ligand exchange methodology. Firstly, the synthesis of bicyclic cyclopropylamines was realized by an intramolecular cyclopropanation of unsatured nitriles. Secondly, a formal [4+1] cycloaddition reaction between a nitrile and a diene was disclosed leading to cyclopentenylamine derivatives. The ligand exchange methodology was used in these two new reactions. The cyclopropanation of substrates, bearing both a nitrile and an ester function, was carried out using a catalytic amount of isopropoxytitane. Application of the reaction led to a short and efficient preparation of aminocyclopropane carboxylic acid derivatives. An extension to the catalytic asymmetric cyclopropanation of cyanoesters was also investigated and the reaction was carried out, for the first time, with TADDOL-based complexes. Finally, the cyclopropanation of cyanosugar derivatives was performed affording iminosugars compounds after few transformations. The biological activities of these products were evaluated, one of them exhibits a selective inhibition to α-L-fucosidase

Resumo: Foram preparados aproximadamente quarenta materiais entre cromiossilicatos zeolíticos tipo MFI e sílica com superfície modificada por zircônio e depois servindo de suporte ao metal crômio. Estes materiais foram denominados Cr-ZSM-5 e Cr-SSM e foram devidamente caracterizados, visando processos de conversão catalítica de monóxido de carbono a dióxido de carbono. As caracterizações envolveram técnicas de: Difração de Raios-X de Pó, Espectrometria de Infravermelho do Estado Sólido, Análises Elementares por Fluorescência de Raios-X, Ressonância Paramagnética Eletrônica, Espectroscopia Fotoacústica, Análise de Área Superficial BET. As reações de conversão foram realizadas através de um reator de vidro microcatalítico, inserido num forno tubular microprocessado. Os efluentes gasosos foram analisados por Espectrometria de Infravermelho com Transformada de Fourier, Cromatografia Gasosa e Análise de Gases com Célula Eletroquímica. Dos zeólitos obtidos por planejamento estatístico, três amostras foram testadas nas conversões, denominadas, ZS-1, ZF-2 e ZP-3. Quanto ao material de sílica, duas amostras foram preparadas e utilizadas nas conversões, denominadas, SF-1 e SF-2. Destes materiais, somente uma amostra de cromiossilicato revelou-se mais ativa para a reação e ambas as amostras de sílica. As conversões foram muito eficientes e revelaram turnover elevados. Os zeólitos desativados foram regenerados com sucesso e a conversão continuou com gradual perda de eficiência. Os materiais de sílica não desativaram após 49 horas de operação. Reações tipo: CO+NOCO2+1/2N2, foram investigadas sem alimentação de ar, com relativo êxito. Existem perspectivas de aplicação do material de sílica em processos de catálise automotiva. Está sendo estudado o registro de propriedade intelectual para estes materiais.
Abstract: About forty catalyst materials were prepared among MFI zeolitic chromiumsilicates type and silica grafted by zirconium oxides, and after serve as anchoring cromium species. These materials were named Cr-ZSM-5 and Cr-SSM and were characterized to drive at catalytic process to change carbon monoxide to carbon dioxide. The characterizations involved, Powder X-Ray Diffraction, Infrared Spectroscopy (MID-IR), Elemental Analysis by X-Ray Fluorescence, Electron Paramagnetic Resonance, Photoacoustic Spectroscopy, BET Superficial Area. The catalytic reactions were carried out on a microcatalytic glass reactor, inserted in a microprocessed cilindrical owen. The gaseous products were analyzed by a Fourier Transformed Infrared Spectroscopy, Gas Chromatography and a Gas Analyzer with Electrochemistry Cell. Synthesis applying statistical planning for zeolites, resulted in three catalysts to be tested in reactions. In respect to silica catalyst, two samples were prepared and applied in reactions. From these materials only a sample of chromiumsilicate revealed active to reaction and more two samples of a silica type. The reactions were most efficacious and revealed high turnover number. The zeolitic catalysts switches off and were renewed with sucessfull process and the reaction extends with gradual loss of efficacious. The silica catalysts did not switches off after 49 hours in action. Class of reactions like: CO + NO CO2 + 1/2N2 were experimented without feed of air, with restrained results. There are applicative perspectives of silica catalysts in automotive catalytic process. This work will generate a patent request for these materials.

Resumo: O presente trabalho visou o desenvolvimento de um processo de aplicação para o ácido acrílico através de um bioprocesso, o qual envolveu a esterificação enzimática do mesmo em meio orgânico, catalisada por lipases e proteases para obtenção de acrilatos de açúcar. O interesse na produção de ésteres contendo moléculas de açúcar se dá devido à sua promissora aplicação como materiais absorventes de água, aditivos para o tratamento de água e para fins biomédicos. Além disso, os carboidratos são a fonte renovável mais abundante na terra e, conseqüentemente, uma das mais promissoras substâncias da química sustentável para o desenvolvimento de compostos de alta biodegradabilidade. Como reagentes, os ésteres acrílicos de frutose foram obtidos por esterificação direta da frutose com ácido acrílico em terc-butanol na presença de lipases e proteases comerciais. Foram investigados alguns parâmetros que interferem nesse bioprocesso, tais como: razão molar dos reagentes e tipo de catalisador. Verificou-se que meios reacionais contendo excesso de ácido acrílico, favorecem as maiores conversões molares de frutose. Dentre as enzimas testadas, a única a catalisar a reação de esterificação do ácido acrílico com a frutose em terc-butanol foi a lipase Novozym 435. Sendo assim, um planejamento fatorial completo com dois níveis e com repetição foi proposto para verificar a influência simultânea das variáveis x1 (razão molar de frutose/ácido acrílico nos valores de 1:5 e 1:20) e x2 (umidade inicial do sistema nos valores de 0,16% e 0,40%) na conversão molar de frutose, na conversão molar de ácido acrílico e na produção de seus ésteres empregando a lipase Novozym 435. A análise estatística dos dados indicou que ambos os fatores tiveram efeitos significativos na síntese dos ésteres de frutose. Assim, uma aplicação de acido acrílico para a produção de ésteres degradáveis e com redução do impacto ambiental nos parece ser um caminho convergente dentro do âmbito da química sustentável (química verde)
Abstract: In the present work the reaction conditions for the direct enzymatic esterification of sugars with acrylic acid catalyzed by lipases and proteases in organic media was studied. There has been an increasing interest in the production of sugar esters because of their possible use as water absorbent materials, as additives in water treatment and as a biocompatible material. In addition, carbohydrates are the most abundant natural resources on earth and an ideal feedstock for the development of biodegradable materials. The esterification reaction of fructose with acrylic acid in tert-butyl alcohol was catalyzed by the commercial lipases Novozym 435, Lipozyme RM IM and Lipozyme TL IM and the proteases Novozym 539 HPF and Esperase HP F. The effects fructose/acrylic acid molar ratio and type of catalyst on the reaction were investigated. The esterification reaction was dependent on fructose/acrylic acid molar ratio, as follows: the higher the amount of acrylic acid to fructose ratio the higher the fructose conversion. Only lipase Novozym 435 catalyzed the esterification of acrylic acid with fructose. A full 22 factorial design was used to study the simultaneous influence of the effects of molar ratio (1:5 and 1:20) and initial moisture of the system (0,16 and 0,40%) on fructose conversion, acrylic acid conversion and amount of esters produced with the lipase Novozym 435 as catalyst. Statistical analysis of the data indicated that both factors had significant effects on the synthesis of sugar esters. A reação de hidrólise das bases de Schiff N-benzildenoanilina, 4-metóxi-N-benzilidenoanilina, 2-metóxi-N-benzilidenoanilina e 2-(2-etoxi)etóxi-N-benzilidenoanilina foi estudada a 25oC, na presença de sais de metais alcalinos e alcalino-terrosos em diversas concentrações. A força iônica foi mantida constante no meio etanólico aquoso (88%) através da adição de tetrafluoroborato de tetrabutilamônio. Os resultados foram explicados em termos de três fatores: a) o efeito inibitório da complexação do íon metálico com o átomo ligado ao anel; b) o efeito provocado pela associação do cátion com o átomo de nitrogênio imínico; c) o efeito templato, envolvendo a associação do íon metálico com os átomos de oxigênio da cadeia lateral.

A reação entre vapores de enxofre diluídos em nitrogênio com coque catarinense para formar sulfeto de carbono, foi estudada em um micro-reator de quartzo na faixa de 700 - 900oC. Em condições de ordem zero a velocidade de aparecimento do sulfeto de carbono é catalisada por sais de metais alcalinos (LiNO3, NaNO3, KNO3, Na2CO3, K2CO3 e Cs2CO3), alcalinos- terrosos (Ca(NO3)2) e de metais de transição (Ni(NO3)2 e Ti(oxalato)2). Estes sais foram incorporados ao coque por impregnação.

O poder catalítico que as enzimas apresentam, tem chamado a atenção dos cientistas, no sentido de buscar explicações mecanísticas para a ação enzimática. Devido a grande complexidade estrutural destas biomoléculas, surge a necessidade de criar modelos mais simples, para que através destes possamos compreender os fatores responsáveis pelo poder catalítico destas macromoléculas. Neste trabalho, monoamidas derivadas dos anidridos 1,8-naftálicos substituídos na posição 4 foram sintetizadas e caracterizadas, posteriormente estudou-se hidrólises intramolecular destas monoamidas como modelo de catálise enzimática e o efeito do grupo substituinte na velocidade das reações. Os estudos cinéticos propõem que as reações de hidrólise das amidas ocorrem intramolecularmente com a participação do grupamento carboxílico na sua forma não dissociada. O efeito do substituinte 4-cloro e 4-bromo nas reações de hidrólise das amidas, parece não causar grandes mudanças na velocidade de reação e no mecanismo reacional proposto quando comparados a respectiva amida não substituída.Verificou-se que os derivados 4-nitro e 4-amino do anidrido naftálico 1,8 naftálico, causam mudanças extremas na reatividade e na estabilidade destes sistemas, resultando em dificuldades na síntese e caracterização, ou ainda nos estudos cinéticos de reações.

One of the key processing parameters in thermoset composites manufacturing is to have an optimum balance between open time and cure time. Long open times followed with a fast cure profile (also referred as snap cure or “hockey stick” shaped profiles) are required on applications like Pultrusion, Filament Winding, Resin Transfer Molding (RTM) and Infusion. In this work, several factors affecting the reactivity of a base line polyurethane formulation were studied. The addition of different components such as internal mold release agents, cross-linker, polyols having different molecular structure and isocyanates having different functionality were studied. A literature search was conducted to identify the main catalyst packages existing in the market. The reactivity of catalyst based on tertiary amines, orgamometallic salts, and co-catalyst of amine-organometallic complexes was characterized. Addition of quelants agents such as thioglycerol and acetyl acetone to delay the catalyst activity were also considered. As a consequence of this work a vast reactivity map was generated. This should guide the formulation designer in future product generations for the further development of the mentioned applications. Recommendations on measurements systems and further areas of exploration are also given.

Studio, a livello teorico basandosi sulla teoria DFT, del precursore dell’acido fosforico di Brønsted derivato dall’R-BINOL, delineazione delle conformazioni possibili e della loro stabilità come supporto base alla via sperimentale. Ricerca di una via di sintesi ottimizzata, basata sulla reazione di Suzuki-coupling, che permetta di ottenere i precursori ipotizzati in precedenza (si veda la figura 9) con buone rese e successiva separazione degli atropoisomeri mediante HPLC semipreparartiva. Caratterizzazione completa degli isomeri conformazionali utilizzando tecniche spettroscopiche (NMR ed ECD), studio cinetico per ottenere il valore della barriera rotazionale sperimentale (ΔG#) dei gruppi metilnaftalenici attraverso equilibrazione termica e confronto con i dati teorici. Ricerca di una via di sintesi che consenta la funzionalizzazione dei precursori ad acidi fosforici senza alterazione della conformazione atropoisomerica e con assenza di racemizzazione ed equilibrazione. Studio dell’attività catalitica dei vari atropoisomeri in una sintesi asimmetrica nota per osservare sia come varia la reattività in funzione della conformazione molecolare, sia per ottenere confronti con altri organocatalizzatori conosciuti.

A reação entre a hidroxilamina e benzoína ocorre em duas etapas: formação de um intermediário de adição e a desidratação deste à oxima. A reação na presença de ácido bórico (0,01M) a pH 8,5 apresenta um aumento no valor de kobs em até l5 vezes. Este valor é maior na presença de ácido fenil bórico, onde a diferença atinge 28 vezes. Tampões que possuem pKas semelhantes não apresentam nenhum efeito em concentrações 0,01M. A reação apresenta catálises ácida e básica geral, com valores de a = 0,75 e b = 0,29. Os gráficos de Brönsted mostram que o ácido bórico apresenta valor de aproximadamente 70.000 vezes superior ao que se pode prever pela linha de Brönsted. O ponto para o borato fica apenas 17 vezes acima da linha de correlação. A provável explicação para o aumento excepcional da velocidade da reação na presença de ácido bórico, é a formação de um complexo cíclico de 5 membros do mesmo com intermediário tetraédrico, facilitando a saída da molécula de água e dando lugar ao complexo oxima-ácido bórico como produto.
