Abstract:
Rare book catalogers and special collections curators can benefit greatly from cooperating on matters concerning cataloging policy and practice. This alliance is necessary for providing full access to special collections in a rapidly changing library environment. The authors examine rare book cataloging from the perspectives of cataloger and curator; discuss the areas where a cataloger–curator alliance can affect cataloging, as well as relevant factors over which the two have little control; and promote a concept of customized cataloging for special collections materials.

Abstract:
In the twenty years since the last edition of Cataloging Legal Literature was published, the cataloging has changed dramatically. Resource Description and Access (RDA) is the new cataloging standard, and it is impossible to overlook just how much the Internet has radically changed the world of legal literature. New to the publication of this edition is co-author Beck, who freely admits in the preface that her contributions are more about what she has learned and is learning rather than what she knows. This statement illustrates the fundamental tenant of the manual, that cataloging legal publications is an ever-changing and developing concept. The authors present information and sometimes unanswered questions to “help a cataloger analyze materials and think like a law cataloger” (xxi).

Catalogers using Descriptive Cataloging of Rare Materials: Books (DCRM(B)) were challenged when the Library of Congress (LC) adopted Resource Description and Access (RDA). DCRM(B) is based on AACR2, which is organized according to International Standard Bibliographic Description (ISBD) areas. RDA is based on FRBR. As of this writing, the RBMS Bibliographic Standards Committee intends to finish an initial version of RBMS Policy Statements for the RDA Toolkit. During the interim, the Bibliographic Standards Committee website states: “The Bibliographic Standards Committee is neutral regarding RDA, neither encouraging nor discouraging agencies regarding implementation of RDA-acceptable DCRM records.” The Committee provides rare book catalogers with two options. The first instructs catalogers to form descriptive portions of records according to DCRM(B) and AACR2, using RDA for access points. The second option directs catalogers to create RDA records using the PCC-RDA BIBCO Standard Record (BSR) that includes rare materials provisions. This paper discusses the creation process of three catalog records for the same rare book developed according to DCRM(B), the PCC-RDA-BSR with rare materials provisions and RDA with exceptions for early printed resources.

Partners in the implementation of this community partnership program are SMK 17 Agustus 1945 which is located on Jalan Nginden Semolo no.44 Surabaya. The facilities owned are IT-based, it's just that the obstacles faced by schools in supporting the teaching and learning process, especially the facilities and convenience of libraries, have not met the national library standards. Based on the input of teachers and library staff as well as direct observations made by the service team, there are several problems, namely: 1) There is no arrangement of library material collections according to their field of knowledge; 2) There is no book cataloging in accordance with the field; 3) Inventory of library materials has not been managed properly and correctly, by providing a book slip for each book; 4) There is no circulation service yet, because officers are burdened with routine public relations activities and lack of library personnel; 5) There is no guidebook in managing library materials, officers have not used standard guidelines. There are two stages in implementing the solution that must be completed with partners, namely: 1) the planning stage which includes: coordination with library staff, teachers, and school principals as initial input, direct observation to obtain evidence related to initial input; 2) Implementation phase which includes: Arrangement and classification of library collections, cataloging library collections, inventory, making library circulation services, making manuals. The results of the community service activities concluded that there were significant differences before and after the procurement and management of the library. This is evident from the results of activities in the form of classification, the arrangement of library collections has been well realized, the room layout is neatly arranged, cataloging library collections, numbering and installation of slips have been installed properly, making library circulation services, and making library management manuals. manual has been realized. From a series of community service activities, it has a success rate of 100%. This is shown from all activities that have been completely completed and the results can be enjoyed by students, teachers and visitors to the SMK 17 August 1945 Library and no less important for the sake of school accreditation.

Much of traditional book cataloging is influenced by a touch-it-once mentality, where work is completed in as few steps as possible. By avoiding unnecessary revision, libraries can process materials quickly and benefit from economies of scale. Valuable staff time is preserved to process additional materials. However, the touch-it-once mentality is problematic when dealing with special collections materials, since they often differ between manifestations and are primary sources for research that informs their description. This paper discusses the idea of “progressive bibliography,” or proceeding from minimal to fuller descriptions, as an intellectually valid and pragmatically essential methodology. Abstract:
The article highlights the historical stages of development of the book trade bibliography and Books in Print systems in Great Britain. It is noted that the first and most famous attempt to compile a book trade catalog dates back to the end of the XVI century and belongs to the englishman E. Montsell, who prepared and published the "Catalog of English Printed Books", which became a model of cataloging for many subsequent authors of bibliographic works. It was found that the industrial revolution and the rapid development of industrial centers in the XVIII century, caused a rapid increase in the number of printing houses, publishing and book trade firms, thanks to which the book trade bibliography of Great Britain received a new quality — a stable periodicity of preparation and publication of bibliographic materials, as well as placement of bibliographic information on periodicals. Numerous samples of the book trade bibliography in chronological section are considered in detail, as well as the activities of the most famous companies in the production of Books in Print catalogs.

Abstract:
Abstract This paper presents assumptions for a system of automatic cataloging and semantic text documents searching. As an example, a document repository for metals processing technology was used. The system by using ontological model provides the user with a new approach to the exploration of database resources - easier and more intuitive information search. In the current document storage systems, searching is often based only on keywords and descriptions created manually by the system administrator. The use of text mining methods, especially latent semantic indexing, allows automatic clustering of documents with respect to their content. The result of this clustering is integrated with the ontological model, making navigation through documents resources intuitive and does not require the manual creation of directories. Such an approach seems to be particularly useful in a situation where we are dealing with large repositories of unstructured documents from such sources as the Internet. This situation is very typical for cases of searching information and knowledge in the area of metallurgy, for example with regard to innovation and non-traditional suppliers of materials and equipment.

The main problem in this thesis is the role of the librarian in improving the information retrieval system in the school library of SMA N 1 Bukit Sundi. This study aims to identify and explain the role of librarians in information retrieval systems, and what obstacles are faced by librarians and users in information retrieval systems. The research method used in this research is the method qualitative research using descriptive type. Collection technique The data used are observation, interviews, and documentation. Technique The data analysis used is data reduction, data presentation, data withdrawal conclusion and verification. Guarantee the validity of the data in this study using triangulation of techniques, sources and time. The results of the study concluded that the librarian plays an important role in the information retrieval system. The role of the librarian in the information retrieval system is generally in the processing section such as cataloging, classifying library materials, and determining subject headings to facilitate data entry and information retrieval in the retrieval system. In addition, in terms of processing library materials, book inventory activities, labeling, barcode attachment, and book bag attachment are also carried out. In the service section, the librarian's role is more about returning and borrowing library materials, provide guidance to users regarding procedures for information retrieval, use of libraries, use of independent services and librarians also serve users if someone comes directly to ask the librarian about the information needed quickly and accurately. Librarians also act as educators (educators) as educational librarians, providing education such as mini-meetings once a year to provide education to users on how to use catalogs, managers, administrators, and also supervisors in information retrieval systems. Keywords: Librarian, Retrieval System

The responsibilities of my position as head of Central Technical Services for Rutgers University Libraries include oversight for acquisitions, cataloging, and the creation of non-MARC metadata for digital projects. Like many libraries, my institution has experienced budget cuts that have reduced the number of print materials that can be acquired and made accessible to our user community. Although a great deal of information is now provided electronically, we continue to acquire print resources for many reasons. For example, science selectors have argued that chemical equations and other figures are easier to read in print and do not display well in e-books. Other disciplines, such as art history, are better served by print. Smaller presses might not be able to afford to publish electronically and only provide print titles.

Abstract:
The Bibliographic Records in Libraries' Searchable Online Public Access Catalogs (Opac) Have Recently Taken on a New Role as a source of bibliographic data that can be aggregated, shared, circulated, manipulated, transformed, studied, and interpreted. Scholars' new awareness of library catalogs not just as aids to locating books and other materials but as sources of bibliographic information that researchers can manipulate and transform has inspired new scholarship on the history of the catalog and a new focus on how the catalog, in both its analog and digital forms, shapes bibliographic knowledge. Our Early Novels Dataset (END) project, for example, uses methods from book history, library science, and literary studies to think about the shape and history of the bibliographic metadata in the library catalog. Our research group's collective experiments with bibliographic metadata ask what happens when we look at the library catalog record not just as a utilitarian aid for searching or as an object of critique, but also as a work in progress with a literary character of its own. We ask what we can learn from the shape given to bibliographic information by the earlier catalogers whose records our project inherited and on whose expertise we draw. We also ask how the familiar languages of the library catalog record and the controlled bibliographic description might help make new forms of knowledge about books. And we press on the inevitable and generative tension between the particular perspective of the library catalogers who transform specific copies of physical books into bibliographic data and the informational fields dictated by machine-readable cataloging (MARC) descriptive standards.

Abstract:
This paper presents the Music Collection of the National and University Library of Bosnia and Herzegovina, founded in 1951 within the Department of Rare Books and Manuscripts. During 70 years, the Collection's stock building was systematically with a legal deposit from the all over Yugoslavia until 1992, through purchases, gift and exchange. In that way the Bosnian-Herzegovinian national collection was founded, which contributed to the preservation of national and cultural identity. In 1980, it owned 9.500 bibliographic units. Unfortunately, the Collection was destroyed on 25 August, 1992, in a shelling of the Vijećnica (City Hall), where was the National and University Library of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Its restoration is still being. Today, the funds of this Collection contain approximately 5.000 bibliographic units and is organized into three separate parts: the Musicological Book Collection, the Music Collection and the Sound Collection. For the most part of the materials – 3.304 bibliographic units, was processed within the COBISS.BH system (Co-operative Online Bibliographic System and Services), according to international bibliographic standards and the COMARC/B format (Cooperative Machine-Readable Cataloging). All bibliographic records can be searched in the electronic catalog of the Library by several parameters. The Collection has invaluable documentary value, especially for our Bosnian-Herzegovinian national music culture. In the following period, it is necessary to enrich the Collection with new contents and present it with quality on high level by bibliographic processing. The best protection of these collected sound records, in Music Collection, as part of the cultural heritage of Bosnia and Herzegovina, is its digitization at the national level in compliance with the legislation about copyright and related rights.

Abstract:
At the International Conference on Retrospective Cataloguing in Europe: 15th to 19th Century Printed Materials, held in Munich in 1990, it became obvious that the conversion of catalogues of research collections to machine-readable form has a high priority in most European countries. However, the limited specialist use of automated short-title catalogues, the creation of which incurs considerable costs, should be weighed more carefully against the massive unsatisfied demand for post-1970 and current materials. The advantages that the automated catalogue brings to the user are not in question, but a catalogue in many volumes, like the guard-book catalogue in Cambridge University Library, can provide a range of access points that is unlikely ever to be equalled – a view evidently supported by some senior users. In smaller libraries retrospective conversion is more desirable and more easily achievable. But it is important for all librarians to understand why they are converting their catalogues, to place conversion in the order of priorities and to question if it is what the majority of users want.

Cataloguing principles and the rules that evolve from them have not been devised in a cognitive vacuum. The evolution took place in a Western cultural context and inevitably presents the problem of biases. When these cataloguing rules are applied to materials originating from non-Western cultures such biases surface and often constitute serious difficulties. This is the case with Africana materials that have caused and are still causing numerous problems to many a cataloguer. For example, many authors (Iwuji 1989, Aderibidge and Udo 1990) have pointed out the inadequacy of Library of Congress (LC) and Dewey Decimal (DD) classification schemes with regard to Africana materials claiming that they are restrictive, inhospitable, unfair, and biased.

India's National Library traces its origins to the Calcutta Public Library, which was opened in 1836 and amalgamated with the Imperial Library in 1903. It receives all material published in India. Its four main groups of activity are Collection Building and Collection Organization, Readers' Service, Conservation of Library Materials, and Administration. These activities are carried out by numerous divisions, of which the subject and language divisions function like individual small libraries, responsible for acquisition, processing and specialized reference services. Some stock is available for loan. There is a small Children's Library. The Conservation Wing has Preservation, Laboratory and Reprography Divisions. An extensive automation programme has started fairly recently; first applications will be for acquisitions and cataloguing. Future projects include the production of a National Union Catalogue, the collection of better statistics of Indian book production, and the acquisition of microforms to fill important lacunae in the collection. In recent decades organometallic complexes have become a class of molecules of great interest in NLO. These complexes combine the advantages of organic molecules with the ones offered by inorganic salts. In this work, a computational quantum mechanics study of the electronic contribution in gas phase of the optical properties of diphosphaferrocene at a static level was carried out, using the CAM-B3LYP DFT Method and the 6-31+G(d,p) basic set, together with the finite field methodology based on Kurtz equations. Additionally, the ferrocene molecule was studied for comparison purposes. The theory-experimental comparison shows that the methodology used provides comparable values, showing a 93% correspondence for aave, and 87% for gave. With respect to the optical properties, it is observed that the diphosphaferrocene complex is mostly more polarizable than ferrocene. However, the greatest contributions are observed in the NLO properties, where for b, the calculated response for the diphosphaferrocene complex is 72 ua, different from, which does not respond because it is a symmetric center molecule. In gave, the answer is almost double. These results allow us to infer that the interaction of phospholyl rings with the Fe atom causes a greater perturbation or delocalization of the electronic density of the molecule, promoting high optical responses when an electric field is applied, cataloging it as a potential candidate for the design of new NLO materials. Key words: NLO, diphosphaferrocene, optics, DFT, (hyper) polarizabilities.

A Review of: Teper, J. H. (2019). Considering “sameness” of monographic holdings in shared print retention decisions. Library Resources & Technical Services, 63(1), 29-45. https://doi.org/10.5860/lrts.63n1.29 Abstract Objective – To investigate the degree to which books catalogued using the same bibliographic record differ and to consider the implications of these differences for cooperative monographic print retention programs. Design – Book condition survey. Setting – Academic library consortium in the United States of America. Subjects – 47 monographic titles, publication years 1851-1922, held by all consortium members and catalogued using the same respective OCLC record number. 625 out of a possible 705 circulating copies of these titles were available for item-level analysis via interlibrary loan. Methods – Book condition surveys were completed for all items and the resulting sets of assessment data points were analyzed to reveal trends. Main Results – 3.4% of items analyzed exhibited cataloguing errors (i.e., were catalogued using the wrong OCLC records), 56.8% retained their original bindings, 17.8% were marked to show previous ownership, 95.7% were complete with no missing content, 9.8% had no damage, and 18.9% had received identifiable preservation action. Conclusion – Books catalogued using the same OCLC record demonstrated many differences when compared at the item level. These differences are important in light of shared print retention programs and highlight a need for inquiry into the number of copies that should be retained to minimize the loss of uniqueness in print materials.

Abstract:
With the development of information carriers and information recording means, non-book materials have experienced considerable changes in type and number. Moreover non-book materials play an increasingly important role in information resources construction by virtue of increasing user demand for non-book materials. At present non-book materials in the library are short of effective management and unable to meet user demand, which reduces user satisfaction and damages the image of the library. The author holds the opinion that establishing networked management of non-book materials is crucial. In order to solve this problem, the author mainly expounds 5 indispensible aspects of networked management in non-book materials: classification unification and descriptive standardization; transformation of information; networked management; establishing regional joint service system; paying attention to the copyright problem.

Abstract:
Back in 1993, as senior librarian at the Vernadsky Library in Kiev, Ukraine, in charge of cataloguing a newly uncovered Judaica collection, I came across an enigmatic manuscript entitled Sefer ha-ḥeshek. It did not match the bulk of the Judaica holdings. Nor did it fit in Abraham Harkavy's collection of medieval manuscripts. It was too Ashkenazic for Abraham Firkovich's Karaite papers, and too early for most of S. Ansky's nineteenth-century folkloric materials. The manuscript had a wooden cover, separate from the text, with a copper monogram Sefer ha-ḥeshek in Hebrew (hereafter—SH). SH's title appears randomly as a running head; the author occasionally refers to the title of the manuscript. Primarily because of its size—411 folios, 23 of them blank, some 760 filled pages altogether—and due to its magical contents, I discarded any attempts to identify the manuscript as a version of the well-known Sefer ha-ḥeshek, a twenty-or-so-page kabbalistic treatise on the names of the archangel Metatron attributed to Isaac Luria. Also, since the manuscript is not a commentary on the book of Isaiah or Proverbs, it could neither be Solomon Duran's nor Solomon ha-Levi's Ḥ eshek shelomoh.

Abstract:
This paper discusses a cross-disciplinary, international collaboration aimed at researching a series of 15th century choir books at the abbey of San Giorgio Maggiore on the homonymous island in Venice. Produced for the abbey itself, the books have never left the island during their 500-year history, thereby allowing a unique opportunity to analyse historic artefacts, which have undergone little modification over time. Prompted by ongoing cataloguing work on the manuscripts, a week-long analytical campaign using a combination of non-invasive analytical methods used in portable configuration allowed the comprehensive characterisation of ten volumes. The manuscripts’ palette and painting techniques were analysed using near-infrared imaging, reflectance spectroscopy in the UV-vis-NIR range, Raman spectroscopy, X-ray fluorescence mapping and digital microscopy. The paper will discuss the challenges linked to the fragility and the large dimensions of the volumes as well as the most interesting results of the investigation. These include the detection of unusual painting materials such as bismuth ink, as well as the discovery of a less homogeneous palette than originally expected, which prompted a partial revision of the attribution of the decoration in one of the volumes to a single artist.

Many modern catalogues and/or observing lists are too large for easy printing in a magazine, or have too short a life to be economically worth printing as a catalogue or a book. We have therefore two ways of presenting them: (a)on microfiche(b)on tape (or diskette). One could add computer print-outs, but by experience there are mostly made for private use.Microfiches have never become very popular, although they are quite handy for long catalogues. The Henry Draper catalogue, weighting 10 kgs occupies 14 microfiches weighting 42 grams and can be accommodated in a common envelope. Durability of good microfiches is guaranteed for several decades and its price is cheap. Except thus for the reading device, which is bulky, the microfiche is a handy way to store information, especially when only small amounts of information are to be retrieved.

Abstract:
Abstract STUDY QUESTION What is the clinical validity and utility of preconception Expanded Carrier Screening (ECS) application on the management of prospective parents? SUMMARY ANSWER The high detection rate of at-risk couples (ARCs) and the high proportion opting for IVF/preimplantation genetic testing (PGT) treatment demonstrate the clinical utility of ECS in the preconception space in IVF and general population. WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY About 2–4% of couples are at risk of conceiving a child with an autosomal recessive or X-linked genetic disorder. In recent years, the increasing cost-effectiveness of genetic diagnostic techniques has allowed the creation of ECS panels for the simultaneous detection of multiple recessive disorders. Comprehensive preconception genetic screening holds the potential to significantly improve couple’s genetic risk assessment and reproductive planning to avoid detectable inheritable genetic offspring. STUDY DESIGN, SIZE, DURATION A total of 3877 individuals without a family history of genetic conditions were analyzed between January 2017 and January 2020. Of the enrolled individuals, 1212 were gamete donors and 2665 were patients planning on conceiving from both the IVF and the natural conception group. From the non-donor cohort, 1133 were analyzed as individual patients, while the remaining ones were analyzed as couples, for a total of 766 couples. PARTICIPANTS/MATERIALS, SETTING, METHODS A focused ECS panel was developed following American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology ACOG-recommended criteria (prevalence, carrier rate, severity), including highly penetrant severe childhood conditions. Couples were defined at-risk when both partners carried an autosomal recessive pathogenic/likely pathogenic variant (PLP) on the same gene or when the woman was a carrier of an X-linked PLP variant. ARC detection rate defined the clinical validity of the ECS approach. Clinical utility was evaluated by monitoring ARCs reproductive decision making. MAIN RESULTS AND THE ROLE OF CHANCE A total of 402 individuals (10.4%) showed PLP for at least one of the genes tested. Among the 766 couples tested, 173 showed one carrier partner (22.6%), whereas 20 couples (2.6%) were found to be at increased risk. Interestingly, one ARC was identified as a result of cascade testing in the extended family of an individual carrying a pathogenic variant on the Survival Of Motor Neuron 1SMN1 gene. Of the identified ARCs, 5 (0.7%) were at risk for cystic fibrosis, 5 (0.7%) for fragile X syndrome, 4 (0.5%) for spinal muscular atrophy, 4 (0.5%) for Beta-Thalassemia/Sickle Cell Anemia, 1 (0.1%) for Smith-Lemli-Opitz Syndrome and 1 (0.1%) for Duchenne/Becker Dystrophy. Fifteen ARCs were successfully followed up from both the IVF and the natural conception groups. All of these (15/15) modified their reproductive planning by undergoing ART with Preimplantation Genetic Testing for Monogenic disease and Aneuploidies (PGT-M and PGT-A). To date, 6/15 (40%) couples completed their PGT cycle with euploid/unaffected embryos achieving a pregnancy after embryo transfer and three of them have already had an unaffected baby. LIMITATIONS, REASONS FOR CAUTION The use of a limited panel of core gene-disease pairs represents a limitation on the research perspective as it can underestimate the rate of detectable carriers and ARCs in this cohort of prospective parents. Expanding the scope of ECS to a larger panel of conditions is becoming increasingly feasible, thanks to a persistent technological evolution and progressive cataloging of gene–disease associations. WIDER IMPLICATIONS OF THE FINDINGS These results highlight the potential clinical validity and utility of ECS in reducing the risk of a pregnancy affected by a detectable inheritable genetic condition. The steady reduction in the costs of genetic analyses enables the expansion of monogenic testing/screening applications at the preimplantation stage, thus, providing valid decisional support and reproductive autonomy to patients, particularly in the context of IVF. The first and foremost of them is the very concept of a rare publication, an issue that has been causing theoretical disputes for more than a decade. Another factor that influences the formation of special collections is the historical development of a specific library, shaped by the methods of obtaining documents. The structure of a library – the formation of its subdivisions – is also of importance. In addition to the above objective factors, there are also subjective aspects of work organization, such as the intellect and experience of the staff.Upon the merging of the sectors of Old and Rare Books, of Art and of Cartography, the Department of Old, Rare and Cartography Publications was founded in 1957. The character of the merged sectors was the main factor that determined the nature of the acquired documents, which has remained almost unchanged until today. In 1991, this department was divided into two: the departments of Old Periodicals and Rare Publications. The aim of this article is to characterize the acquisition strategy and the specifics of document selection in the Rare Book Department. Another objective is to overview the traditions of the formation of the department holdings and to outline the perspectives of a more effective keeping and cataloguing of documents. The main source is the Rules and Instructions for the work of the Rare Book Department. At present, the department operates on the basis of the Acquisition Instruction confirmed in 1996. The main principles of rare book acquisition are the following: age (pre-1801 publications), rarity (bibliographic rarities), value, uniqueness (exceptional documents whose preservation requires special conditions). The documents from the holdings of the Rare Book Department in the WLLAS electronic catalogue are labeled CIM (the abbreviation of “cimelia”, the word derived from the Greek κειμήλιον and meaning “treasure”).The Rare Book Department holds more than 200 thousand documents of various nature: books, cartography publications, art albums, engravings, photographs, small documents, microfilms. These materials are grouped into separately formed collections.Lately, the problem of the acquisition of newer documents (books, art albums, exhibition catalogues, accidental (small) documents) has become much more urgent. In our opinion, the Rare Book Department should accord more attention to printed heritage the concept of which is inseparable from a certain period in history.

Abstract:
When we think of paper-folding, we usually think first of the name that is usually associated with it: origami. But in the field of architecture, origami is more than just imagining an animal or flower which is what this word usually brings to mind. In architecture, we extend the meaning to take in the real essence of the word – that of great structural and constructional loads. The basic unit of origami – the fold – allows us to start manipulating space and even to create space itself. Paper-folding, with its spatial modelling potential, is to three-dimensionality what drawing is to two-dimensionality. It is after all an ancient Japanese art which encapsulates the advantages of intuitive thinking and fast modelling, once the basic elements of folding are known. Heino Engel (2001) in his book “Structural Systems”, describes intensive studies on types of structures which derive from this systematization. And the architect Ming Tang often uses structures in his projects which clearly originate in the concept of origami, and he correlates these structures with sustainable materials. The architect Michael Hansmeyer manages to incorporate all the beauty of the action of folding with the help of a computer, where the final result is a shape that approaches a real application at an architectural level. Over time, there have been numerous people who have found a relationship between the harmony and proportions of paper-folding and their own studies and projects. What is missing is a single point where clear concepts on the possibilities of folding and the results of those who have experimented with it can be brought together. This cataloguing, which is being carried out in this Master’s dissertation, is intended to be a contribution to the design method in architecture, through which the architect may achieve spatial dexterity over a piece of paper.

A Review of: Švab, K. & Žumer, M. (2015). The value of a library catalog for selecting children's picture books. Cataloging & Classification Quarterly, 53(7), 717-737. doi: 10.1080/01639374.2015.1044059 Objective – To determine how parents select picture books for their children, and which bibliographic data are important when selecting a specific version of a title with multiple interpretations. Design – Qualitative, with interviews and task-based controlled observational studies. Setting – A public library in Slovenia. Subjects – 36 parents of children between one and 6 years of age. Methods – The researchers recruited parents via convenience sampling in non-library, family-oriented locations (parks, playgrounds, beaches, and others). Participants were all interviewed regarding their methods of picture book selection and their use of library catalogues. Participants were then given six print bibliographic records for copies of Cinderella, available in libraries, and asked to select a book for their child based solely on these records. They were then presented with their selection and interviewed regarding their satisfaction with the book selected and their decision-making process. Finally, the researchers presented participants with all six physical copies of the book that had been represented by bibliographic records, and asked participants to select one of the books for their child. The researchers then interviewed participants regarding what information about the physical books should be included in records to assist in their decision-making. Main Results – Interviews indicated that the majority of participants did not use the library catalogue to select books for their children, and did not expect librarian or bookseller assistance. Many participants expressed browsing behaviours as the primary method of obtaining new picture books, and the strongest criteria for picture book selection among participants were subjective judgements regarding illustrations and content. However, when asked to use just bibliographic records to select a version of Cinderella, most participants selected a title using the author field and year of publication. 67% of participants were then dissatisfied with their selection due to factors such as illustration type, font size, and length or complexity of text. When choosing from all six physical copies, most participants disregarded condition issues and selected the oldest edition, favouring its colourful illustrations and textual length. Conclusions – The authors concluded that illustrations and book content were more important than other factors, including physical condition of the book, and that existing library catalogues were inadequate for picture book selection. They suggested that library catalogues should include further information about picture books, such as cover images, sample pages, book condition, and information about the type of text (whether it is the original, abridged, or an adaptation). They supported this by explaining that participants used the bibliographic fields already available (author, year of publication) to try and guess at what they actually considered important (the aforementioned suggested fields). In addition, they believed that their study indicated that users require a transparent and systematic way to review and compare versions of a given text. Finally, the authors recommended further study using enriched bibliographic records and additional data collection methods, such as focus groups and questionnaires. The authors have several further studies in this area planned.

Abstract:
The limited resources for learning chemistry and the lack of application of multiple representations in schools are a problem for students in understanding chemistry at the molecular level. This study aims to obtain a multi-representation-oriented teaching material design that is feasible to use. Development of teaching materials using the 4D Thiagarajan et al, this is because this model is specifically for book development. The design of electrolyte solution and multi-representation-oriented teaching materials is assessed by five experts consisting of three FKIP lecturers and two chemistry teachers. The results of judgment on aspects of material feasibility, presentation of material, and language each get a percentage of 83%; 83.%; 83.9% the three into the very decent category. While the results of the multi-representation aspect of judgment consist of five criteria, namely 1) the type of representation, the type of representation (C1), the interpretation of features (C2), the relationship with the text (C3), the description of the image (C4), the degree of connectedness (C5) has been met according to the criteria specified used. In the readability test, the teaching materials developed are categorized as easy to understand for students and independent categories, then received a positive response from students.

Kholikov, Alexey A. "Textual notes to D.S. Merezhkovsky “Non-War Diary. 1914–1916” (based on archival materials from RO IRLI)." Philological Sciences. Scientific Essays of Higher Education, no. 5 (September 2022): 146–54. http://dx.doi.org/10.20339/phs.5-22.146.

Abstract:
The author of the article for the first time produces a detailed textual analysis of the collection of D.S. Merezhkovsky “Non-War Diary. 1914–1916” (1917), relying on archival materials from the RO IRLI (Pushkin House). For most of the articles that made up this book, various documents have been preserved: preparatory notes and extracts, draft and white manuscripts, typescripts, newspaper clippings. Their value is determined not only by the tasks of textual criticism, but also by the history of literature and interpretive poetics. As a result, it became possible to outline in more detail the pre-press history of a number of articles and fill in the gaps in our understanding of them. On specific examples, we were able to characterize the logic of finalizing texts by a writer (from a manuscript to a newspaper publication and then to a collection); clarify ideas on the problem of distinguishing between censored / editorial and author’s excluded fragments in Merezhkovsky’s articles; expand knowledge of the sources he used. Documentary evidence of the author’s direct participation in the compositional organization of the book is given, and the dynamics of structural solutions is revealed. Thanks to additional facts, we supported the conclusion about the creative nature of the changes introduced in the preparation of the “Non-War Diary. 1914–1916” taking into account the changing socio-political background and “fluctuations” in the views of Merezhkovsky. Finally, the analytical review of archival materials from the RO IRLI helped expand the historical and literary context of Merezhkovsky’s speeches and reveal the writer’s hidden polemics with his contemporaries.

Abstract:
<p><em>Stocks in the Indonesia Stock Exchange that enter into the list of Shariah securities (DES) tend to increase over time. This study aims to examine whether Sharia shares have an impact on the value relevance of accounting information. The test was conducted using 1,070 observations consisting of 852 sharia shares and 218 non-sharia shares included in the non-financial sector. Comparison is done by testing the influence of book value per share (BVPS) and earnings per share (EPS) on stock market price (PRICE). The result of the research shows that (1) BVPS has a positive effect on PRICE but only for sharia shares, so the value relevance of BVPS for sharia stocks is higher than the value relevance of BVPS for </em><em>non-</em><em>sharia stock. (2) EPS has positive effect on PRICE both for sharia stock and for non-sharia stocks, but the effect of EPS on PRICE is higher for non-sharia shares.</em></p>

Abstract:
The research objective is to build a web-based library application. The research method consists of data collection, while the application implementation uses string matching, exact matching, and string matching algorithms. Entity-relationship diagrams are also used in building relationships in the database. Use cases are used as a description of the scope of a system that is built. The conclusion of this study is that; 1) This information facility system is very effective in influencing library admins to look for borrowed books, 2) Providing integration that produces non-digital information in one application, and 3) Librarians can take advantage of web-based automation and manage the circulation of book loans and book returns.

Abstract:
Two models of writing a companion to the history of Dutch literature for Non-Dutch readers are discussed here: a ‘narrative synthesis’ vs. a broader ‘study of cultural history’. They both take here into account the Renaissance perspective. The impulse for the article is a book by Norbert Morciniec, Historia literatury niderlandzkiej do końca 19. wieku (History of Dutch literature till the end of the 19th century), published in 2019. This book is compared both with a former book of Dorota & Norbert Morciniec from 1985, Historia literatury niderlandzkiej (History of Dutch Literature) and the large two-volume history of the literature from the Low Countries, Widzę rzeki szerokie… (I see broad rivers…) from 2018, edited by Jerzy Koch & Piotr Oczko. The situation in 1985 and that in 2018/19 are defi nitely varied: not many translations of Dutch literature into Polish at the beginning, and no academic centres… Today it is not so: thanks to the pioneering work of Norbert Morciniec.
