Abstract:
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to present the software architecture of the university’s union catalogue in Novi Sad, Serbia. The university’s union catalogue would comprise the collections of 14 academic libraries. Design/methodology/approach – The basis of this paper is a case study of developing a software solution for the union catalogue of the University of Novi Sad in Serbia. The solution principles of object-oriented modelling are applied to describe the software architecture. Specifically, the unified modeling language (UML) component and sequence diagrams are used. The database model is described by using a physical data model. Findings – Through the research of related papers and, taking into consideration the problem of creating a university union catalogue, it is concluded that the best approach is to combine the idea of a virtual and a physical union catalogue. Records are stored in one physical union catalogue, while the holdings data are stored in the local library management systems (LMSs) organized in the form of virtual union catalogues. Because academic libraries often use LMSs from different vendors, interoperable communication between those LMSs and the union catalogue is provided through the usage of standard library protocols for information retrieval (Search and Retrieve URL [SRU], SRU Record Update and NISO Circulation Interchange Protocol [NCIP]). Research limitations/implications – The development of a union catalogue for the University of Novi Sad is in its test phase, and, at this moment, only a software solution supporting the functionalities of a union catalogue has been created. Practical implications – By introducing a university union catalogue, students would be able to search the collections of all the university libraries by using a single portal. Their results would indicate whether a book is available and from which library it is available to borrow. Originality/value – Originality of this software architecture lies in the usage of standard library protocols. The described architecture enables the addition of new members to the university union catalogue, regardless of which LMS the library uses.

Abstract:
The paper discusses the possibilities for using legislative materials in the process of establishing a catalogue of legal principles and determining their content. The starting point for the analysis was the conviction that the catalogue of legal principles and their content are established through discourse. One element of this discourse is the legislator’s voice in the form of „traces” left in various places. The interpreter may refer to both the legislator’s expressions in texts of normative acts and to expressions presented in legislative materials. Until recently, given their insufficient availability, legislative materials were seldom used in the discourse on legal principles. Through an analysis of legislative materials developed for the 2016 amendment of the Code of Criminal Proceedings, the authors show that these materials can be a source of valuable information on the legislative intent. The paper concludes with the following observation: the currently available access opportunities offered by information technologies mean that expanding the context that shapes the catalogue and content of the various principles through the use of legislative materials appears necessary.

Abstract:
IAINBAXTER&raisonnE is an experimental catalogue raisonné of the conceptual artist IAIN BAXTER &, former President of the ‘critical company’ N.E. Thing Co. Ltd. (NETCO). NETCO creatively re-purposed the media ecology of Marshall McLuhan to challenge Conceptual art’s utilitarian ‘aesthetic of administration’ as well as the categorical assumptions informing library and information science that it mimicked. This article describes the main features of the prototype and argues in favour of an approach to developing catalogues raisonnés with artist-centred designs, for which the principles of linked data may be unduly restrictive or even incompatible.

Abstract:
Constructing catalogue of temporal situationsThe paper is aiming to create a common basis for description, comparing, and analysis natural languages. As a subject of comparison we have chosen temporal structures of some languages. For such a choice there exists a perfect tool, describing basic temporal phenomena, namely an ordering of states and events in time, certainty and uncertainty, independency of histories of separate objects, necessity and possibility. This tool is supported by the Petri nets formalism, which seems to be well suited for expressing the above mentioned phenomena. Petri nets are built form three primitive notions: of states, of events that begin or end the states, and so-called flow relation indicating succession of states and events. This simple constituents give rise to many possibilities of representing temporal phenomena; it turns out that such representations are sufficient for many (clearly, not necessarily all) temporal situations appearing in natural languages. In description formalisms used till now there is no possibility of expressing such reality phenomena as temporal dependencies in compound statement, or combination of temporality and modality. Moreover, using these formalisms one cannot distinguish between two different sources of uncertainty of the speaker while describing the reality: one, due to the lack of knowledge of the speaker what is going on in outside world, the second, due to objective impossibility of foreseen ways in which some conflict situations will be (or already have been) resolved. Petri net formalism seems to be perfectly suited for such differentiations. There are two main description principles that encompassed this paper. First, that assigns meaning to names of grammatical structures in different languages may lead to misunderstanding. Two grammatical structures with apparently close names may describe different reality. Additionally, some grammatical terms used in one language may be absent and not understandable in the other. It leads to assign meanings to situations, rather than to linguistic forms used for their expression. The second principle is limit the discussed issues to such a piece of reality that can be possible for precise description. The third is to avoid introducing such information to the described reality that is not explicitly mentioned by linguistic means. The authors try to following these principles in the present paper. The paper is organized as follows. First, some samples of situations related to present tense are given together with examples of their expressions in four languages: English, (as a reference language) and three Slavic languages, representing South slavonic languages (Bulgarian), West slavonic languages (Polish), and East slavonic languages (Russian). Within the same framework the next parts of the paper are constructed, supplying samples of using Past tenses and, finally, future tenses and modalities. The formal tools for description purposes are introduced stepwise, according to needs caused be the described reality. There are mainly Petri nets, equipped additionally with inscriptions or labeling in order to keep proper assignations of description units to described objects.

Full text
Abstract:
Rings with Hirth couplings are primarily used for the accurate positioning of axial-symmetric components in the machine tool industry and, generally, in mechanical components. It is also possible to use Hirth rings as connection tools. Specific industries with special milling and grinding machines are able to manufacture both tailor made and standard Hirth rings available on stock. Unfortunately, no international standard (for instance ISO, DIN or AGMA) is available for the production and the design of such components. In the best-case scenario, it is possible to find simplified design formulae in the catalogue of the suppliers. The aim of this work is to provide some accurate formulae and computational methods for design to provide better awareness on the limitations and the potential of this type of connection. The work consists of five parts: (i) a review of the base calculation derived mainly from the catalogues of manufacturers; (ii) an improved calculation based on a new analytical method including the friction phenomenon; (iii) an experimentation run for validating the method; (iv) a case study applied to a machine tool; and, (v) a closed form formulation to determine an upper threshold for friction, thus ensuring the Hirth coupling regular performance.

Abstract:
The author of “The Catalog of Zodiac signs and stars” published in De Revolutionibus, was Ptolemy. Copernicus used this catalog and all available observations of the Sun, Moon and planets, for improvement of the theory and tables of their motions. E. P. Fedorov wants to support with the authoritative opinion of Copernicus the idea of replacing the main optic reference frame to radio system JCRF. Having mastered the experience of previous generations Copernicus knew that the principles of establishing coordinate systems do not change along with opinions on the structure of the universe. Had the places of stars in catalogs not been dependent on the location of the Sun, Copernicus would have had no opportunity to prepare the time and coordinate systems required for solution of his problem. In his manuscript he preserved the idea the principles of compiling star catalogs, which were not included in the published edition along with excerpts from the originally conceived chapters. The words irrefutably prove that the idea of establishing the main reference system from VLBJ observations without the place of vernal equinox could not be supported by reference to Copernicus`s opinion.

AbstractThe complete reduction of data from the ESA astrometry satellite Hipparcos, from some 1012 bits of photon counts and ancillary data to a catalogue of astrometric parameters and magnitudes for the 100 000 programme stars, will be independently undertaken by two scientific consortia, NDAC and FAST. This approach is motivated by the size and complexity of the reductions and to ensure the validity of the results. The end product will be a single, agreed-upon catalogue. This paper describes briefly the principles of reduction and the organisation and status within each consortium.

Abstract:
From "word-images' to "chapter-shots": The imaginist montage of Anatolij Mariengof. The article discusses the three dominant imaginist principles of Anatolij Mariengofs (1897-1962) poetic technique, as they are translated into prose in his first fictional novel Cynics (1928). These principles include the "catalogue of images", a genre introduced by Vadim Shershenevich, i.e. poetry formed of nouns, which Mariengof makes use of in his longer imaginist poems. Another dominant imaginist principle, to which Mariengof referred in his theoretic articles and poetic texts, is similar to the creating of shocking images typical of Russian futurism. Mariengofs application is the juxtaposition of "pure" (chistyj) and "impure" (nechistyj), either a conflict between the vehicle and the object within a metaphor or a conflict between metaphors. This is an essential poetic feature in both Mariengofs poetry and prose. The third, maybe the most Mariengofian imaginist principle, relevant to the study of Cynics, is the poetics of transition (poetika sdviga), i.e. a certain fragmented structure of the text, which is related to Mariengors use of heteroaccentual rhyme. All these principles can be treated as fundamental elements in Mariengofs use of montage technique in his fictional prose.

Abstract:
Brazilian and two French: L&PM Pocket, from L± Companhia de Bolso, from Companhia das Letras; Le Livre de Poche, from Librairie Générale Française; e Folio, from Gallimard. It investigates the materiality of the books, highlighting its formats, covers, pagination and pre and post-textual elements. In the light of the Histoire du livre and the Bibliography, editorial features are discussed in their historicity, pointing to the social and economic conditions that allowed their emergence and development in every time and country approached. In a comparative perspective, the achievements and shortcomings of Brazilian collections are discussed in comparison to the French model, with its oldest and consolidated collections. Thus, it is proposed to test two hypotheses: that the domestic market is experiencing a period of diversification, with titles that are not just the best-selling and / or classical literature; and, as occurred in Europe in the mid-twentieth century, the paperback collections have been conquered university readers. We conclude that although the Brazilian collections still do not have the same variety of French series and titles and not account for a significant share of book consumption in the country, they have expanded and resorted to measures and strategies similar to those adopted by the major collections from the set of countries we used as a reference.

Abstract:
The thesis deals with epigraphical monuments of central city of České Budějovice up to 1900 and at the same time it tries to acquaint with the history of the city with the intention to medieval times and with its system of fortification. The thesis is divided to nine chapters. The history of medieval city of České Budějovice is described in the first chapter. The second chapter deals with city fortifications from its beginning to the present. The third chapter brings a summary of studies which deal with making accessible of the epigraphical monuments. The fourth chapter is about territory which determines the catalogue accessed area. Detailed catalogue principles which are used in the epigraphical catalogue, structure of particular catalogue records and classification of the epigraphical material are presented in next chapters of the thesis. The eighth chapter is the main part of this work. The catalogue brings 127 epigraphical inscriptions, both extant up to the present and also not extant which are situated in the determinate area. Last chapter contains indices which should make work with the catalogue easier. The conclusion summarizes the gained findings. List of sources and bibliography follow. The appendices conclude the thesis.

Beauséjour, Anthony. "Les référendums sur la souveraineté de l'Écosse et de la Catalogne : le renvoi relatif à la sécession du Québec en comparaison." Thèse, 2015. http://hdl.handle.net/1866/14108.

Full text
Abstract:
The year 2014 is marked by the referendums on sovereignty of Scotland and Catalonia, two nations that have a lot in common in terms of history and culture. The pre-referendum legal framework for each of these regions is basically the same: the legal existence of Scotland and Catalonia comes directly from the will of a unitary central state, respectively the United Kingdom and Spain. The legislative competence to hold a referendum on self-determination of these regions is also ambiguous. Faced with this dilemma, the United Kingdom allows Scotland to hold a referendum on sovereignty. This results in a fair democratic process, equitable, decisive and respected by all. For its part, Spain prohibits Catalonia to do the same, which does not prevent Barcelona to spare no effort to consult its population. The outcome is a public participation process that has nothing to do with a referendum in due form. 20 years after the last referendum on Quebec sovereignty, the study of the Scottish and Catalan referendums allows us to point out the accuracy but also the partial inconsistency of the teachings of the Supreme Court of Canada in its Reference re Secession of Quebec. On one hand, the need to balance the underlying constitutional principles of democracy and constitutionalism is highlighted. At the same time, the concepts of the clear question and answer, effectiveness and post-referendum negotiations take on another color in face of a new imperative that is absent from the conclusions of the Supreme Court: the pre-referendum negotiations.

Abstract:
In liberal democracies, written constitutions are the ‘supreme law of the land’ by means of which individuals sharing a common sense of belonging have agreed to establish a government of limited powers, which is entrusted with pursuing the common good, whilst respecting a sphere of individual freedom. At national level, constitutions have thus been called upon to fulfil three basic functions. First, they provide a catalogue of fundamental rights, including political rights, which public authorities (and individuals) are bound to respect. Secondly, they allocate power between the different branches of government. In federal or decentralized systems, they also allocate power between the centre and the periphery. Thirdly, they help to preserve national identity by determining the way in which a particular community of individuals is to interact with the wider world. Accordingly, a national constitution draws the dividing line between the domestic legal order and public international law.

Vendors and customers usually use catalogues to communicate information for such manufacturing resource. Incompatibilities of information in syntax, semantics, and structure among supply chains often result in inefficient manual sharing and management of the catalogue information. It is difficult for cloud based applications to pool information from various sources. This communication failure calls for a system neutral solution for data modeling and exchange to enhance interoperability of the cutting tool catalogue information. Previous studies has present solutions for representation of the cutting tool information with STEP AP242 (ISO/DIS 10303-242) with semantic classification referring to a PLib (ISO 13584, Part Library) based dictionary. This approach can be extended for the catalogue modeling, due to functionalities for specification and configuration control of general product variants in the same standard. With a modeling approach with standardized information schemas, system architecture to guide implementation is proposed to enhance the communication in practice. Relative elements to represent vendors’ catalogues and customers’ requirements are modeled. Associations to the PLib-based dictionary complete semantics and enable information mapping between vendors and customers. Principles of the mapping are identified to facilitate implementation of related software systems. Prototypes are developed to verify the proposed system architecture. The proposed solution is promising to migrate to other types of products than cutting tools, because the data models are based on the general product models defined in AP242.

Abstract:
Abstract A nonlinear dynamical model of a rotor-support system is presented in this paper. The model includes a treatment of typical perpendicular cracks as encountered in rotor systems. In addition to this a new method for the description of elasto-damping properties of oil films is proposed. The rotor system is also discussed in the context of multiple supports involving the principles of kinetostatic bending. Certain numerical examples are presented within the paper, namely a study of the trajectory of arbitrarily chosen system nodes, and also of a spectral analysis of vibration for cases where the cracks are arbitrarily spatially located. It is considered that the proposals within this paper are of particular relevance to software implementations for diagnostics simulations. The nonlinear description of the model considered also allows for the creation of a catalogue of diagnostic relational phenomena which can be used to describe the inter-relationships between defects which appear during running of a rotor system and their causal symptoms.

Abstract:
Abstract This paper develops a new method for implementing mass-customization, namely, the customization around standard products, or catalog-based customization. The method addresses the customization requirements of a class of products that are complex in configuration, multi-functional and structurally similar. We formulate catalog-based customization as an optimization problem consistent with the manufacturer’s goal of incurring minimal costs in the redesign of existing standard components, while meeting customer specifications and satisfying design constraints. The ‘catalog-based’ nature of the formulation raises concomitant issues of cost function development and problem simplification/solution. We identify the generational structure as best suited to exploit the cost data in existing catalogs and construct a product cost function. The cost-estimation methods used by the generational structure in the construction are identified as weight-based — for modeling the material costs, and methods based on similarity principles and regression analyses — for the production costs. The optimization formulation of catalog-based customization may be simplified by an a priori identification of a standard catalog design as the customization basis. This is accomplished with function costing — a cost-estimation hypothesis that uses product functionality to develop an approximate cost-estimate. The function-costing estimate is also used to abstract features from the standard base design into the optimization formulation. The preferred solution strategy for the optimization formulation is identified as genetic algorithms. We apply the customization method developed to Brushless D.C. Permanent Magnet (BDCPM) motors and obtain optimal minimal cost custom designs (from the standard designs of a BDCPM motor family) for different sets of customer requirements.

Abstract:
Abstract This paper presents the first steps towards conceptual design for the underwater transportation of minerals from seabed to shore for deep sea mining (DSM). The methodology is based on conceptual design using a systematic approach. Abstraction was used to identify the fundamental entities of the problem, and a function structure containing the overall function and subfunctions was established based on the abstraction. Further, an extensive search for working principles (WP) was conducted in order to find forms associated with the functions. This was done by exploration of solutions within different industries such as the oil and gas industry, subsea industry and dredging industry. The discovered working principles were then listed and categorized based on their physical principles, i.e. classifying criteria. For each function, the working principles were combined into design catalogues with classifying criteria in the rows and columns. Further, compatibility between principles was reviewed. This led to the selection of four working structure sets: one based on ore moved as bulk, and three based on ore moved inside a container. The container-based solutions are different in how the container is moved: inside the cargo hold, carried outside, or towed by underwater vehicle. A completion of the last steps of the conceptual design process is needed to obtain a principle solution.

Abstract:
Abstract A prototype knowledge-based system of sequence design for cross wedge rolling (CWR) is described. This is a part of a complete system developed for cross wedge rolling process. Parts are catalogued with a hybrid solid rotational part classification and coding system utilizing the principles of group technology, together with metal-flow features. The proper knowledge representation of the rolled part and wedge tool configurations is incorporated into an expert system. Given a part code and its geometric data via the text input, the rolling sequence and wedge tool configurations are automatically determined by the system. Wedge tool feature patterns are embedded into the knowledge representation to match a corresponding rolled part. Examples demonstrated in this paper show that this system has been applied to modelling sequence designs and these designs have assisted the modelling die design activities for the CWR process.

Abstract:
Designing advanced multifunctional materials and products in an integrated fashion starting from the conceptual stage provides designers with increased flexibility to achieve system performance goals that were not previously achievable. Today however, product designers commonly select more or less advanced materials from selection charts or catalogs, rather than designing them along with the product from the conceptual stage on. In order to increase a designer’s flexibility in the conceptual stage and render conceptual materials design more systematic, hence less ad-hoc and intuitive, the main contribution is the development of a systematic approach to the integrated design of material and product concepts from a systems perspective. This systematic approach is focused on developing multilevel function structures, including the material levels. Based on functional analysis, abstraction and synthesis, multiscale phenomena and associated governing solution principles are mapped to functional relationships. Hence, multilevel function structures are embodied into principal solution alternatives based on comprehensive identification and integration of phenomena and associated governing solution principles occurring at multiples levels and time and length scales. In this paper, the function-based approach to integrated design of material and product concepts is illustrated through the systematic design of reactive material containment system concepts. Having developed an overall reactive material containment system function structure, a more detailed function structure on the materials level is created. For dominating functional relationships at the materials level, governing solution principles are identified on multiple scales. The most promising solution principles are then classified in morphological charts. Combining solution principles in a systematic fashion including the materials level, product and material system concepts are identified. The most promising system concepts, in other words the principal solution alternatives that narrow the gap to desired system performance goals, are selected and illustrated in concept selection charts. A selected material and product system concept is then characterized in terms of its specific properties, which are to be tailored to the functional requirements and performance goals in subsequent embodiment design processes. By developing concepts of the product and material as an integrated system, materials design becomes more systematic and hence less ad-hoc and intuitive. At the same time, designers are enabled to realize new functionality and achieve system performance goals that were not previously achievable.
