A priest not only celebrates the sacraments but also teaches the truth of christian faith. Therefore, priests as “the catechesist of catechesists” must develop the pastoral of catechesis in their parishes. But, it is not easy to develop it without a good planning. The article’s author presents family catechesis as one of the possible forms of catechising children. The foundations of family catechesis are found in the New Directory for Catechesis where it is clearly stated that catechesis starts in the family. In Slovenia, the family catechesis was born “from the bottom-up”, at the request of a group of parents. In the beginning, it was an alternative option, but today it is considered equal to other forms of catechesis. Children and young people, who participate in this catechesis together with their parents, may receive the sacraments of first Holy Com

Preparation for participating in the Eucharist took place in the fourth and fifth centuries as part of pre-baptismal catechesis, and to a more degree as part of mystagogical catechesis which took place after baptism. A few of such catecheses have been preserved after saint Augustine. He preached them at Easter. In these catecheses he tried to make neophytes aware of the real presence of Christ in Bread and Wine. He justified it using biblical texts especially Christ’s statements about „the living bread”. The main task and duty of Christians was to wake up in the faith and receive the Eucharist

Abstract Cyril of Jerusalem is one of the very important witnesses of faith in the East in the fourth century. He is the author of the Catecheses, which contain the content of the catechumenal and mystagogical teaching in Jerusalem. They are an excellent example of how to transmit Christian doctrine to candidates for Christianity and confirm it in the newly baptized. However, the basic method used by Cyril to convey his message is the use of biblical texts. The present study will show the motivation for using biblical references in two mystagogical catecheses on the Eucharist, i.e. Catechesis

This article addresses the need for liturgical formation that Pope Francis recently highlighted for the whole Catholic Church in his apostolic letter Desiderio Desideravi. The current American Eucharistic Revival encourages engagement in this. Based on a detailed spiritual–liturgical reading of the Emmaus account (Lk 24:13–35), the article develops guiding principles for liturgical catechesis and considers their practical applications with a particular focus on families. The first principle underscores the connection between liturgy and life, which makes catechesis relevant for daily life, e.g

Why this study now? As the Catholic Church advances through the twenty first century it continues to be deeply influenced by the great legacy of its previous pontiff Pope John Paul II (1920- 2005). This legacy includes his championing of a new evangelisation; the pivotal role that he gave to catechesis in this process and his desire to eliminate unacceptable departures from liturgical norms. Recalling his own words at the Congress of Liturgical Commissions (1984) Pope John Paul II stated: In the work of liturgical renewal, desired by the Council, it is necessary to keep in mind "with great bal
