Abstract:
In this study, we propose two biobjective mathematical models based on PROMETHEE V method for project selection problems. We develop an interactive approach (ib-PROMETHEE V) including data mining techniques to solve the first proposed mathematical model. For the second model, we propose NSGA-II with constraint handling method. We also develop a Preference Based Interactive Multiobjective Genetic Algorithm (IMGA) to solve the second proposed mathematical model. We test the performance of NSGA-II with constraint handling method and IMGA on randomly generated test problems.

Abstract:
This work is a comprehensive investigation to find to what extent simple laboratory tests e.g. Los Angeles abrasion and micro-Deval might be suitable for predicting real railway ballast performance with respect to deformation and degradation. A number of tests to measure essential properties of ballast aggregate have been performed in addition to advanced material testing. Large cyclic triaxial loading test and full scale railway track model test were employed to simulate the effects of train loading and tamping, and to study settlement, stiffness and degradation of a range of ballast materials. The testing programme included both wet and dry testing conditions. All the rock types tested were mainly composed of combinations of principal rock-forming silicate minerals. They represent all together a wide variety of igneous, metamorphic and consolidated/metamorphosed sedimentary rocks mainly fine to very fine grained. Mechanical properties Change in the ballast grading proved to affect the ballast breakage development over time. However, the abrasion property expressed by the micro-Deval value did not show any association with the degradation of ballast under repeated load testing. Simulation of repeated tamping seemed to be the main source of ballast breakage. Most rocks showed high frost resistance after long term impact, but samples with high content of amphibole were less frost resistant. The rocks’ mechanical strength in terms of the Los Angeles abrasion or micro-Deval value did not show any correlation with either the amount of microcracks or the rocks’ average mineral grain size. A new method to measure the amount of microcracks based on luminescence measurements was developed. It is suggested that micro-cracks represent open channels for water to penetrate into the aggregate, which was confirmed by good correlation between water absorption and the amount of micro-cracks. Moisture had generally a negative effect on rocks’ mechanical strength according to Los Angeles abrasion and Point Load strength results. On the other hand, dry and wet triaxial tests with cyclic loadings did not confirm this effect. Neither did mineral grain size distribution show any correlation with mechanical strength, but the range of coefficient of conformity (Cu = D60/D10) was probably too narrow to obtain a reliable conclusion. A new method to quantify the mineral grain size distribution was developed under these test series. Functional properties Both resilient modulus of the ballast layer and the stiffness of the track were governed by the materials’ grading curve and specific density. A possible relation between the amount of microcracks in the aggregate and resilient modulus as well as ballast breakage is suggested. The permanent vertical strain during repeated load testing was affected by both the micro-Deval value, the grading curve of the ballast and the aggregate’s content of soft minerals. Improvements of test methods The Los Angeles abrasion test distinguished clearly between the superior quality material and the very poor material. The Los Angeles abrasion value is, however, a poor parameter to indicate how the intermediate material will behave in service regarding ballast breakage. This study proposes to improve the ranking of ballast materials by introducing two additional methods. One which is able to measure some rocks’ ability to recover mechanical strength after repeated crushing, and one which measures the production of fines (0/0.125 mm) during crushing. Saturation of ballast material before micro-Deval testing did not have any significant effect on degradation. Neither did the use of 1 % sodium-chloride solution have any effect.

Abstract:
Innovation outside the company’s core business is essential for any company in a fast-changing environment. Companies that want to engage in strategic innovation in order to embrace emerging opportunities need ways of managing the innovation process. There is currently limited research on how to select among and evaluate innovation proposals for emerging opportunities in the context of intrapreneurship. This master thesis investigates how an incumbent high-tech company that promote intrapreneurship uses criteria in the selection process of innovation proposals. The study conducts an embedded single-case study of the case company, referred to as Company A, by collecting qualitative data through archival documents and 19 semi-structured interviews. The study uses Christensen’s theory of disruptive innovation to analyse the results. Findings show that an incumbent high-tech company uses a set of criteria that is a mix of the previous findings in the context of new product development and external investors. The criteria utilized in the selection process are within the dimensions market and value, product and technology, operations and financials, corporate alignment, and team. The conducted interviews exposed that personal considerations constitute additional informal criteria for the evaluators, and much emphasis is put on the intrapreneur’s characteristics and presentation. Findings from the interviews suggest that criteria should be utilized less strict in the beginning of the process, which is supported by previous researchers. Criteria also contribute with transparency to the innovation process and can be used as guidelines for the innovator. Christensen’s theory contradicts the use of the criteria market size, corporate alignment and to validate the innovation with a customer because of the nature of emerging markets and technologies.<br>Innovation utanför företagets kärnverksamhet är viktigt för alla företag på en snabbt föränderlig marknad.

Abstract:
This thesis examines the search function of categories and alternative means of search in the context of identifying competitors for startup ideas. Traditional categorization literature often assumes that audiences search based on category membership, focusing primarily on the selection stage within predefined categories. However, categorization systems are complex, with hundreds of categories that are not always exclusive or sufficiently granular, making them insufficient for guiding searches effectively. Alternative search methods such as recommendations, user tags, and semantic search are increasingly available and can diminish the reliance on traditional categorization systems. Using a behavioral simulation methodology, we developed an information portal where participants were tasked with finding competitors for a startup idea. This approach allowed us to precisely record their search and selection activities, capture self-reported experiences, and observe post-search changes in their perceptions of the startup idea and its market. The participants' lack of prior knowledge about startup competitors made this setting ideal for exploring search processes and their consequences. The first chapter demonstrates that atypical companies are less likely to be selected as competitors when searches rely on industry categorization systems. This finding suggests that the search path toward objects can moderate the effect of their categorical positioning. The second chapter delves deeper into the search process, revealing that participants identified very different competitor sets due to insufficient guidance from the industrial category system. These diverse search results significantly influenced their perceptions of market competitiveness. The third chapter explores how identified competitor sets serve as reference points for strategic differentiation. Participants adjusted their startup ideas based on the competitors they discovered, indicating that search outcomes can directly impact idea development. Collectively, these studies highlight that search processes are consequential and that reliance on category membership for search may be inadequate. The findings suggest that search procedures can lead to varied perceptions and strategic decisions, emphasizing the need to consider alternative search methods in both theory and practice

Abstract:
The explosive growth of ‘accelerators’ in the United States has given entrepreneurs and their startups the opportunity to pursue seed-stage financing. While the specific economic role of accelerators remains unclear, a study comparing the selection of portfolio companies between accelerators and venture capitalists was performed. A difference of means was performed on the responses per question between the collected 19 accelerators’ response and the 100 venture capitalists’ response, recorded from a prior study. It is found that venture capitalists place significantly more weight, than accelerators, on the potential of the startup’s product or service to be proprietary, to enter a high-growth market with little threat of competition within the first 3 years, and to deliver a high financial return within 5 to 10 years. The results also indicate that both accelerators and venture capitalists emphasize different attributes of the entrepreneur and venture team when considering selection.

Abstract:
When selecting applicants for professions with job descriptions involving complex human interaction, identifying suitable candidates is essential. This strongly applies in police selection, because police officers must act appropriately at all times, deal with difficult and sometimes dangerous work situations, and come into contact with people who are in highly emotional states, such as anxiety, fear, excitement, and shock. However, suitability is a broad and vague concept that cannot be even defined without understanding the value of various personal skills and qualities for specific duties, ways that such skills are manifested during life as an officer (potentially both on- and off-duty), and appropriate ways to assess them. The overall aim of this thesis was to explore the personal skills and qualities that are relevant to suitability for the police profession with a special focus on the concept of empathy, and to investigate how it can be conceptualized and measured in the context of selection. Two of the four studies focused on different perspectives regarding the personal skills and qualities of a good police officer, while the other two focused on theoretical aspects and practical measurement of empathy. Mixed methods were used, in acknowledgement of the value of using different forms of data collection, material, and analytical methods to achieve valid information. The results and findings support several of the personal skills and qualities that have been identified in previous research and also can be found as criteria in police selection. Empathy should be considered in the selection process, but it is also important to ensure that there is an alignment between the definition of the concept and practical outcomes in police work. The findings indicate that empathy could be conceptualized in a relevant way using a social cognitive neuroscience (SCN) approach. In particular, a modified, Swedish 4-factor version of the Empathy Assessment Index (based on recent theoretical advances in SCN) appears to have considerable potential for further development. Future studies will focus on areas identified as requiring further research, such as the development of this instrument by adding complementary measures focusing on manifestations of empathy and other relevant qualities in actual work-related situations. Other aspects that require further attention include the definition, assessment, and impact of social desirability in selection contexts.

Abstract:
The last fifteen years have witnessed a significant, global shift away from State socialism towards free market economies. Privatization today is a major economic policy of over 85 countries around the world. Given this explosion in privatization activities, numerous questions come to mind: why has there been such a major change in approach by governments of many political leanings in the past fifteen years? What are the official reasons behind the rebalancing of the public sector in favor of the private sector? Which selection criteria and divestiture techniques are used by governments to implement privatization policies? And, last but not least, under what form and shape is this global privatization movement taking place? These are the questions this thesis sets out to answer

<p>The pearl oyster <em>Pinctada martensii </em>or <em>Pinctada fucata </em>is the oyster for produce the South China Sea Pearl, and the production of pearl oyster <em>Pinctada martensii</em> plays a key role for the economic and social welfare of the coastal areas. To guarantee both rich and sustainability of providing pearl oyster productions, addressing the suitable areas for aquaculture is a very important consideration in any aquaculture activities. Relatively rarely, in the case of site selection research, the researchers use GIS analysis to identify suitable sites in fishery industry in China. Therefore, I decided to help the local government to search suitable sites form the view of GIS context. This study was conducted to find the optimal sites for suspended culture of pearl oyster <em>Pinctada martensii </em>using GIS-based multi-criteria analysis. The original idea came from the research of Radiarta and his colleagues in 2008 in Japan. Most of the parameters in the GIS model were extracted from remote sensing data (Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer and Landsat 7). Eleven thematic layers were arranged into three sub-models, namely: biophysical model, social-economic model and constraint model. The biophysical model includes sea surface temperature, chlorophyll-α concentration, suspended sediment concentration and bathymetry. The criteria in the social-economic model are distance to cities and towns and distance to piers. The constraint model was used to exclude the places from the research area where the natural conditions cannot be fulfilled for the development of pearl oyster aquaculture; it contains river mouth, tourism area, harbor, salt fields / shrimp ponds, and non-related water area. Finally those GIS sub-models were used to address the optimal sites for pearl oyster <em>Pinctada martensii</em> culture by using weighted linear combination evaluation. In the final result, suitability levels were arranged from 1 (least suitable) to 8 (most suitable), and about 2.4% of the total potential area had the higher levels (level 6 and 7). These areas were considered to be the places that have the most suitable conditions for pearl oyster <em>Pinctada martensii </em>for costal water of Yingpan.</p>

Context. The approach of developing software systems with the use of third partycomponents i.e. COTS or OSS has increased globally. In this study API product refers toeither a software component or a software service or both packaged together, that can beaccessed through an API. Developers are faced with plethora of alternative choices to selectan API product. With this increase in components adoption, API product providers are facedwith challenge of designing their product to be more attractive than others. This needs theproviders to be educated about the developer behavior when they choose an API product.Understanding the selection practices of developers can help providers to improve thepackaging of API products, making them more suitable for selection. Objectives. The objectives of this study is to investigate the criteria that developers usewhen reasoning about acceptability of a software component. Methods. A background study is performed to identify the evaluation criteria proposed inthe literature. An empirical study using Qualitative content analysis is performed. In the study the 480 reviews of different API products are analyzed to understand the criteria frompractitioners’ perspective. Results. 9 relevant criteria that developer use to reason about accepting or rejecting an APIProduct are identified. 30 sub criteria related to the 9 criteria are described in the study. Conclusions. This study concludes that the identified 9 criteria play an important role indeveloper assessment of the API product. It is also found that the criteria have significantimpact on the ratings of API product. These criteria could guide API product providers tomake better choices when developing the product.

Abstract:
[Truncated abstract] Time series of natural phenomena usually show irregular fluctuations. Often we want to know the underlying system and to predict future phenomena. An effective way of tackling this task is by time series modelling. Originally, linear time series models were used. As it became apparent that nonlinear systems abound in nature, modelling techniques that take into account nonlinearity in time series were developed. A particularly convenient and general class of nonlinear models is the pseudolinear models, which are linear combinations of nonlinear functions. These models can be obtained by starting with a large dictionary of basis functions which one hopes will be able to describe any likely nonlinearity, selecting a small subset of it, and taking a linear combination of these to form the model. The major component of this thesis concerns how to build good models for nonlinear time series. In building such models, there are three important problems, broadly speaking. The first is how to select basis functions which reflect the peculiarities of the time series as much as possible. The second is how to fix the model size so that the models can reflect the underlying system of the data and the influences of noise included in the data are removed as much as possible. The third is how to provide good estimates for the parameters in the basis functions, considering that they may have significant bias when the noise included in the time series is significant relative to the nonlinearity. Although these problems are mentioned separately, they are strongly interconnected

To extract the best possible information from geodetic and geophysical observations, it is necessary to select a model of the observation errors, mostly the family of Gaussian normal distributions. However, there are alternatives, typically chosen in the framework of robust M-estimation. We give a synopsis of well-known and less well-known models for observation errors and propose to select a model based on information criteria. In this contribution we compare the Akaike information criterion (AIC) and the Anderson Darling (AD) test and apply them to the test problem of fitting a straight line. The comparison is facilitated by a Monte Carlo approach. It turns out that the model selection by AIC has some advantages over the AD test.

Abstract:
Forest measurements are inherently spatial. Soil productivity varies spatially at fine scales and tree growth responds by changes in growth-age trajectories. Measuring spatial variability is a perquisite to more effective analysis and statistical testing. In this study, current techniques of partial redundancy analysis and constrained cluster analysis are used to explore how spatial variables determine structure in a managed regular spaced plantation. We will test for spatial relationships in the data and then explore how those spatial relationships are manifested into spatially recognizable structures. The objectives of this research are to measure, test, and map spatial variability in simulated forest plots. Partial redundancy analysis was found to be a good method for detecting the presence or absence of spatial relationships (~95% accuracy). We found that the Calinski-Harabasz method consistently performed better at detecting the correct number of clusters when compared to several other methods. While there is still more work that can be done we believe that constrained cluster analysis has promising applications in forestry and that the Calinski-Harabasz criterion will be most useful.<br>Master of Science

Abstract:
Approved for public release; distribution is unlimited<br>This thesis provides data analysis on the selection process of the FY 2009–2011 Army Active Guard/Reserve (AGR) colonel selection boards. In this analytic study, logistic regression is used to study what variables influence colonel selection. The focus of this study is to aid Army senior leaders in the mentoring and development of future senior leaders by identifying criteria key to the selection of Army AGR colonels. A data set is compiled from 1144 individual promotion packets submitted across three selection boards. The 1144 packets correspond to 684 individuals. The findings suggest one’s zone of consideration, age, longest deployment, senior service college completion, possession of a master’s degree, battalion command, number of ratings as a lieutenant colonel, and the total percentage above center of mass ratings have a significant influence on selection.

Abstract:
The detection of multiple outliers can be interpreted as a model selection problem. Models that can be selected are the null model, which indicates an outlier free set of observations, or a class of alternative models, which contain a set of additional bias parameters. A common way to select the right model is by using a statistical hypothesis test. In geodesy data snooping is most popular. Another approach arises from information theory. Here, the Akaike information criterion (AIC) is used to select an appropriate model for a given set of observations. The AIC is based on the Kullback-Leibler divergence, which describes the discrepancy between the model candidates. Both approaches are discussed and applied to test problems: the fitting of a straight line and a geodetic network. Some relationships between data snooping and information criteria are discussed. When compared, it turns out that the information criteria approach is more simple and elegant. Along with AIC there are many alternative information criteria for selecting different outliers, and it is not clear which one is optimal.

Abstract:
With the increasing speed of the microprocessor and its rapidly increasing demand for power, determining how to power the microprocessors for our computers becomes an important issue. So far, industry has been struggling to operate the VR/VRM at higher and higher switching frequencies while maintaining acceptable power conversion efficiency. As a consequence, the power switches used in the VR/VRM must be able to work efficiently at a higher switching frequency and with a higher current density. To evaluate the performance of the MOSFET for this low-output-voltage, high-current and high-switching-frequency application, a prevalent criterion, the Figure-of-Merit (FOM), is being widely adopted for determining the top switch of the buck converter in the VR/VRM. By comparing the FOMs of different devices, the device with the lowest FOM value should have the best performance and lead to the lowest loss for this device in the circuit. Qgd*Rdson is a widely accepted and widely used FOM for power devices. Due to the lack of accuracy of the power loss model, this FOM is no longer suitable for VRM applications. Furthermore, the question of how to use this FOM to select the right device for different application is another important issue. This work presents an investigation of a new Figure-of-Merit based on a more accurate loss model, which includes the factor of Qgs2, the gate-driving voltage and the packaging parasitics. Furthermore, a simple method is proposed to select the right device and gate-driving voltage for different circuit conditions. A new simple and accurate closeform model for device loss with packing parasitics is derived. This model can provide more physical information for each of the device parameters. The loss influence of the different packaging method is analyzed and discussed at the end of the work.<br>Master of Science

WICu is essentially equivalent to AICu for small sample sizes and to BIC for large sample sizes. Similarly, WICs is also equivalent to AICu for small sample sizes and to SICc for large sample sizes. We extend these two criteria for order selection in moving average model, autoregressive moving average model, and regressive model. Comparing WICu and WICs with several popular criteria by simulation study. It shows WICu and WICs outperform or at least comparable to WIC. For small sample sizes, WICu and WICs perform as well as AICu and are better than other criteria. And for large sample sizes, WICu and WICs perform as well as BIC and SIC, respectively, and outperform other criteria.

Abstract:
This study investigates the current selection criteria and processes that experienced intermediate educators (teachers, teacher librarians, technology teachers, teacher librarian/technology teachers, and teacher/technology teachers) in the Vancouver metropolitan area use to assess and evaluate CDROM software for use with intermediate students. The study was exploratory and descriptive in nature and employed a survey approach. The survey was administered using questionnaire and interview instruments. The questions for the study were developed through input from a panel of three CDROM experts, and further refined in a pilot study. The research instruments were administered by the researcher to twenty educators experienced with CDROM selection. During the interview, subjects were observed and tape recorded evaluating two CDROM encyclopedias. All audio recordings were transcribed. Content analysis of the interview transcriptions objectively, systematically, and quantitatively identified and described references to CDROM selection criteria, factors affecting the development of these selection criteria, and resources consulted when evaluating and selecting CDROM software. Subjects identified forty-six CDROM selection criteria, six factors influencing their evaluation and selection of CDROMs, and sixteen resources which they consulted when selecting CDROMs. It was found that groups of educators (e.g., teachers, teacher librarians, and technology teachers) differed on the types of selection criteria they used to evaluate CDROMs. Educators also used different criteria when evaluating a specific CDROM as opposed to criteria they listed for selecting all CDROMs. The recommendations for this study included: (a) ensuring educators are given time to preview, evaluate and test CDROMS with their students, (b) training educators how to select and use CDROM software in groups of educators both similar and different to their teaching specialties, (c) increasing the involvement of provincial and district resource specialists, and (d) the establishment of a previewing site on the internet to assist educators in their evaluation and selection of CDROM software.

Abstract:
博士<br>淡江大學<br>資訊工程研究所<br>81<br>Software testing is an important process in software quality assurance. A number of testing criteria have been proposed. Two famous testing criteria are : all-paths criterion and all- statements criterion. All other criteria can be categorized as falling between these two criteria. There is a trade off in selecting among existing criteria. The stronger the selected criterion, the more complicate test cases must be used and the correctness of software will be enhanced. On the other hand, the weaker the selected criterion, the lower assurance of software correctness. It depends on the size of program, budget, and time constraint to decide which criterion should be used for conduct- ing a test. In order to help software engineers to adopt a appropriate testing technique, it is important to provide a guideline for software developers to test software. The data flow dependency complexity proposed by Oviedo and the data-dependency graph proposed by Bieman are based on the data-dependency between different statements or blocks. Both of these research showed the data-dependency is an important factor of program complexity. In this dissertation, a family of testing path selection criteria based on data-dependency are presented. They are : all-DRTP criterion ,all-PRTP criterion and BADP criterion. It is based upon the obvious that the higher the program complexity the more intensity tested is needed. Although there are many methodologies for selecting testing path. However, there is few research providing scale measurement of the difference among them. This dissertation also provides a quantitative analysis for the comparison among these criteria. A theoretical basis for measuring testing efforts is presented and a number of testing metrics are proposed. It provides a basis for comparing different testing criteria. Also it will be a good guideline for selecting proper testing methodologies.

Abstract:
碩士<br>臺南師範學院<br>國民教育研究所<br>88<br>This study aimed to develop phonics textbook selection criteria and to present the analysis of English teachers’ point of views of the phonics textbook designs and the items that are influential to their selection decisions. The researcher intended to provide some implications for English teachers, phonics textbook designers and the English teacher training course designers. The validity of phonics textbook selection criteria was developed based on literature review and the suggestions of ten scholars whose specialties were at linguistics, reading and English teaching methodology and those of six elementary English teachers. The reliability was obtained from the interjudge reliability of six phonics textbooks. The results showed that both phonics student textbooks and the whole set of phonics textbooks reached .001 significance. In addition, part of the phonics textbook selection criteria was transformed to the questionnaire to investigate the opinions about phonics selection and designs from English teachers of different background. The samples were chosen from all the Kaohsiung elementary English teachers and the students that studied English teaching courses at Tainan Teachers College, Pingtung Teachers College and Kaohsiung Normal University. χ2 test showed that some items reached .05 or .01 significance. According to the results of this study, the main conclusions were shown in the three fields as follows: 1. Phonics textbook selection criteria (1) Phonics textbook selection criteria should be based on the literature review of current phonics teaching methodology. (2) There should be different scoring systems among different criteria for the evaluators to choose textbooks of good characteristics. (3) The titles of each evaluation category should be clear enough and be applied to every phonics textbook. (4) The category and the items under each category should be contradictory to each other. (5) Each item should be clearly, positively, sufficiently and objectively illustrated and be easily evaluated. (6) The numbers of the evaluation items should not be too many lest evaluators be unwilling to use the criteria. Besides, too many items may leave too much limitation for textbook designers. (7) The items should be suitable to the educational systems in Taiwan. (8) Phonics textbook selection criteria of this study is a proper tool for evaluating phonics textbooks in Taiwan. 2. Phonics textbook designs (1) Phonics learning activities are the most important parts for designing phonics textbooks. (2) Listening, sounding out and the characteristic of “easy to do” should be the focus of activity design. (3) Useful supplementary materials should be added. (4) Words for practice in each unit should be carefully selected. (5) The story should be easy, short, interesting, of different subjects and related to children’s experiences. (6) Careful selection of simple, useful, sufficient, high frequent orthographic elements is necessary. (7) The design of phonics textbook should be simple, useful, easy to learn and of proper quantity. 3. Current phonics teaching situations and the opinions of the usage of phonics textbooks. (1) Phonics teaching is valuable. (2) Give proper phonics teaching according to students’ age and level. (3) English teaching hours, the funds of textbooks and the number of students limit the teaching of phonics. (4) Teachers’ professionalism influences their motif and result of teaching phonics. The suggestions were given as follows: 1. Phonics textbook designers in Taiwan should take activities, video tapes, word selection, teachers’ manuals, teaching arrangement, illustrations and pictures, the order of orthographic elements, stories and its quantity into serious consideration. 2. More teaching hours and textbook funds should be increased for elementary English teachers to design phonics programs and put them into practice. 3. Phonics teaching training courses and practice should be added to elementary English teacher training programs.

Abstract:
Submitted in fulfillment of the requirement for the degree of Master of Information and Communications Technology, Durban University of Technology, Durban, South Africa, 2017.<br>The selection of an appropriate vendor from a set of competing vendors in information technology outsourcing is an essential decision for the effective and efficient management of supply chain management in a fiercely competitive environment. Given the growing and intensive applications of information technology resources to improve process efficiency, achieve growth, foster innovation and transform service delivery, the need arises to outsource the major information technology operations of an organisation, as a strategy for organisations to concentrate on their core businesses. Information technology outsourcing is an important constituent in supply chain management, because it demands effective selection of an appropriate vendor, based on multiple conflicting criteria. Supply chain management places strong emphasis on effective evaluation and selection of vendors against usually conflicting multiple criteria, rather than on cost as a single criterion upon which to base a decision. Multiple criteria generally include both qualitative and quantitative attributes, some of which can be fuzzy in nature. The overarching purpose of this research is to screen the most important criteria of information technology outsourcing for vendor selection based on expert opinions. The experts are from institutions of higher education, health, inspection and testing, property, shipping, state own enterprise, local government and transportation, who share their views regarding criteria that influence their vendor selection decision. Since the vendor selection decision is characterised by a high degree of subjectivity, interdependency and conflicting criteria, the analytic hierarchy process is applied to determine the weights of the identified criteria, evaluate and rank the potential vendors that provide information technology outsourcing services to the sampled institutions. The sample size for this research comprises 16 respondents and the 11 criteria which are cost, quality, commitment, additional resources, additional expertise, prior work, contract terms, confidentiality, location, on supplier database and black economic empowerment. Results show that quality of product is the most important attribute for vendor selection in information technology outsourcing. In addition, the study found that the sampled institutions can categorise their information technology outsourcing vendors more effectively and select a more effective supply chain partner. Moreover, the sampled institutions can provide unsatisfactory vendors with valuable feedback that will help them improve and become good partners in the future.<br>M

Abstract:
Lemieux recently proposed a new approach that studies randomized quasi-Monte Carlothrough dependency concepts. By analyzing the dependency structure of a rank-1 lattice,Lemieux proposed a copula-based criterion with which we can find a ???good generator??? for the lattice. One drawback of the criterion is that it assumes that a given function can be well approximated by a bilinear function. It is not clear if this assumption holds in general. In this thesis, we assess the validity and robustness of the copula-based criterion. We dothis by working with bilinear functions, some practical problems such as Asian option pricing, and perfectly non-bilinear functions. We use the quasi-regression technique to study how bilinear a given function is. Beside assessing the validity of the bilinear assumption, we proposed the bilinear regression based criterion which combines the quasi-regression and the copula-based criterion. We extensively test the two criteria by comparing them to other well known criteria, such as the spectral test through numerical experiments. We find that the copula criterion can reduce the error size by a factor of 2 when the functionis bilinear. We also find that the copula-based criterion shows competitive results evenwhen a given function does not satisfy the bilinear assumption. We also see that our newly introduced BR criterion is competitive compared to well-known criteria.

Abstract:
博士<br>國立臺灣科技大學<br>營建工程系<br>99<br>The contractor is the key factor for successful implementation of a construction project. How to avoid elevated risk of not implementing contracted obligation is an important issue for construction industry. This paper proposes a “Multi-Criteria Prospect Model” (MCPM) to support a construction contractor selection process. This model is based on bidder’s tender promise and related proof documents. Through this transparent competition model, not only utility but also implementation probability (as provided time/cost discounts related to success and failure implementations) can be effectively evaluated by clients. In the model, implementation probabilities are evaluated using Fuzzy Preference Relations and Predefined Decision Utility curves allow each bid to provide utility to the client. Both probability and utility are integrated by using the Cumulative Prospect Theorem. The overall prospect value for each candidate contractor is provided to support the final selection. The primary contribution of this study is to propose the clients an enhance method to support a construction contractor selection process in which two criteria, the construction cost and completion time, are taken into account. Both the implementation probabilities and the economic utilities of tenders’ promise time/cost discounts are evaluated in this method. Above evaluation results are integrated to reduce the poor decision making and to improve the decision quality. The MCPM meets the clients’ preference by defining the time/cost decision utility function, and ensures the objectivity of decision process by group evaluation, and provides an easy and efficient quantification tool for user by designing linguistic questionnaire with multiplicative preference relation, and reflects the decision preference of evaluators by using probability weighting function. Such characteristics of the proposed model are benefit to select the most appropriate general contractor from the candidates for the clients to succeed in project implementation.

碩士<br>國立高雄海洋科技大學<br>航運管理研究所<br>98<br>Abstract In recent years, the competition of global shipbuilding market is getting increasingly. The supply chain management (SCM) for shipbuilding operators is thus becoming more and more important. For the SCM of shipbuilding industry, the supplier plays a role of successful key factors. The purpose of this study is to discuss the criteria of supplier selection for shipbuilding industry. Based on the characteristic of shipbuilding industry and the relevant literature, the criteria for supplier selection were first investigated. A Fuzzy AHP model was then constructed to identify those criteria from perspectives of shipbuilding operators and supplier s respectively. Finally, the gaps between shipbuilding operators and supplier were verified by the difference between their perceptions toward the criteria. As an empirical study, the shipbuilding operators and their suppliers in Taiwan were investigated to validate the research model. The results indicate that the top five criteria for shipbuilding operators to select suppliers are: price level, meet the demand, payment terms, quality level and deliver goods cost. While, The top five selection criteria of supplier perception are: quality level, meet the demand, technique ability, price level and brand reputation. At last, the top fives gap between the shipbuilding operators and their supplier are: technique ability, quality level, payment terms, deliver goods cost, and price level. The results could provide information for both shipbuilding operators and their suppliers to decrease the perceived gap between their perceptions. Abstract:
碩士<br>國立清華大學<br>工業工程與工程管理學系<br>89<br>Abstract It is said that industrial buyers usually regard the quality of products, delivery and cost as the most important criteria when selecting their vendors. However, this study proposes that industrial buyers will also perceive industrial service and knowledge transfer as important criteria for vendor selection in particular for expensive high-tech equipment buying decisions. Thus, the major purpose of this study aims at probing the main concerns of industrial buyers when considering a semiconductor equipment purchase. Since the semiconductor companies usually form a project team to make the relevant vendor selections, this research sent out questionnaires to 517 prospective organizational buyers with different specialties from four departments of nine companies. There were 342 usable questionnaires and the valid response rate was around 66%. The findings displayed four vendor selection criteria in semiconductor equipment market, which are product, brand, service and knowledge transfer. The results did indicate that knowledge transfer is necessary for the expensive organizational buying in semiconductor industries. It means that industrial marketing should not only focus on price, lead-time, and product quality, but it has to provide the competence of the service and knowledge transfer to customers in semiconductor trade. 碩士<br>淡江大學<br>水資源及環境工程所<br>82<br>The forecasting accuracy highly depends on the performance of model selection in time series modeling. Therefore, how to effectively and accurately identify model is one of the most important research topics in time series analysis. During theast few decades, several reseachers, such as Akaike(1969,1970, 1973,1974)、Schwarz(1978)、Bhansali & Downham(1977)、Haman & Quinn(1979)、Shibata(1980), proposed lots of model selection criteria. However, a systemmatical studies and comparsions on those criteria has not been made. The aptness and characteristics of those criteria are investigated by the study of synthetic data based on the accuracy of selection of ture model in the present study. Both of the method of moments and maximum likelihood method are used to estimate the parameters. In the present study, 11 criteria, CAT , FPE, FPE1, AIC, SBC, BIC1, BIC2, BIC3, BEC, HQ and S are used to study. Meanwhile, 32 sets of data which model are well-known are also used to investigate the aptness of those criteria. The results indicate that BIC1 is the best for the accuracy, while CAT is the worst.

Enterprises have realized that a large amount of direct and indirect profits can be obtained from effective and efficient supply chain management practices. The supplier selection has a great impact on integration degree of supply chain relationship. In this study, the fuzzy DEMATEL (Decision making trial and evaluation laboratory) method was used to find out the factors which influence other factors the most in supplier selection. The fuzzy DEMATEL questionnaire was designed and sent to 17 professional purchasing personnel in electronic industry. Seventeen of the questionnaires responded were effective and analyzed. From the results of this study, it was found that technology ability was criteria with much influence. In addition, stable delivery of the goods was the evaluation criteria with the strongest connection with other criteria.

Abstract:
碩士<br>康寧大學<br>休閒管理研究所<br>104<br>Along with increase in quantity of people who always dine out, catering business operators flourish everywhere. Everyone wants to occupy a position in this industry. However, due to the rising of consumer’s consciousness, catering business operators must know consumers’ preferences to satisfy their ever-changing consumption requirements. By means of literature review and expert questionnaire, this study summarizes five dimensions of catering business consumer’s decision making-restaurant atmosphere, product condition, service quality, restaurant marketing and convenience, as well as eighteen criteria of these dimensions. Objects of this study are supervisors from Tastysteak restaurants in four counties and cities: Chiayi, Tainan, Kaohsiung and Pingtung. Survey is conducted by questionnaire. Then, DEMATEL (Decision Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory) is used to investigate influence factors between dimensions and between criteria. Analysis results demonstrate “service quality” is the overall influence source that affects other dimensions. Among criteria of the dimension “restaurant atmosphere”, “restaurant appearance” is the overall influence source. Among criteria of the dimension “product condition”, “product quality” is the overall influence source. Among criteria of the dimension “service quality”, “solving ability” is the overall influence source. Among criteria of the dimension “restaurant marketing”, “advertisement” is the overall influence source. Among the criteria of the dimension “convenience”, “convenient parking” is the overall influence source. Based on above-mentioned results, this study proposes following suggestions for catering business related organizations: “establish thorough education & training system”, “cultivate staff’s flexibility in dealing with consumers’ problems”, and “do not excessively emphasize stylized service attitude”. It is expected that these suggestions can provide a reference for future operation and improvement.

碩士<br>國立臺北科技大學<br>管理學院資訊與財金管理EMBA專班<br>107<br>As the explore about strategy and method of semiconductor component supply chain. looking backward to various methods of supply chain strategy in the past, due to the different capability of purchasing personnel, or disregard on purchasing functions, that purchasing strategy are mostly based on the collaborative business units within each company, which are judged by their individual opinions, and hasty work out the data integration in the final as the evaluation conclusion. Very few of them are completely based on Expert Purchasing Mode at the top of decision-making level, or by strategic aspect to plan the supplier selection and judgement. In this study, which is target to formulating the semiconductor component purchasing strategy selection criteria of supply chain management. Through the integration of literature, expert opinion, and Balanced Scorecard as the based, to establish supplier selection architecture. In addition, extract seven terminal product applications based on the thinking way for expert procurement model, which covers top-level expert group decision-making in four areas: which include business, procurement, R&D and quality department. The Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) is applied to obtain the weights of each evaluation framework factor. Finally, the selection criteria of semiconductor component suppliers are constructed through the verification results of two proposals of separating device semiconductor and analog IC semiconductor, which can provide a reference for enterprise's overall semiconductor component procurement strategy planning.

Abstract:
In the present study an efficient Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) approach has been proposed for quality evaluation and performance appraisal in vendor selection. Vendor selection is a Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) problem influenced by multiple performance criteria/attributes. These criteria attributes may be both qualitative as well as quantitative. Qualitative criteria estimates are generally based on previous experience and expert opinion on a suitable conversion scale (Likert Scale). This conversion is based on human judgment;therefore, predicted result may not be accurate always because the method doesn’t explore real data. These are analyzed using AHP, QFD, Fuzzy techniques etc. reported in literature. In solution of MCDM problems there should be a common trend is to convert quantitative criteria values into an equivalent single performance index called Multi-attribute Performance Index (MPI). Benchmarking and selection of the best alternative can be made in accordance with the MPI values of all the alternatives. In this context, present study highlights application of VIKOR method adapted from MCDM for utilizing quantitative real performance estimate scores. Detail methodology of VIKOR method has been illustrated in this reporting through a case study.
