Abstract:
AbstractKant famously claims that the table of the categories of freedom does not require explanation, ‘since it is intelligible enough of itself’ (Critique of Practical Reason 5: 67). Kant interpreters have been baffled by this claim, and the disagreement among the increasing number of studies in more recent years suggests that the table is not as straightforward as Kant took it to be. In this article I want to show that a coherent interpretation of the table depends essentially on a clarification of what have been taken to be three fundamental ambiguities in Kant’s presentation of the table.

This paper deals with the “Table of the Categories of Freedom” in the second main chapter of Kant’s Critique of Practical Reason. It provides an account of the role these categories are supposed to play and also of their conceptual content. The key to a proper understanding lies in the realisation that they are derived from the socalled table of judgements in the Critique of Pure Reason and the functions of thinking, which it compiles by means of a metaphysical deduction. I therefore interpret the categories of freedom consistently from the table of judgements and reconstruct their conceptual

This paper evaluates the Economic Freedom of the World (EFW) Index on the basis of the Hayekian concept of freedom (Hayek 1960), more precisely on that of its conceptualisation in terms of the character of government actions developed in Kapás — Czeglédi (2007a). As a result of a detailed criticism, the components of the EFW index are regrouped in freedom-related, policy and other categories. Although the EFW index is not considered a good measure of economic freedom, its components and the index itself are used in empirical investigations. It is shown that the main categories of metaphysics are the categories of nous/Self, idea/form, substrate/pneuma. In this case, a person can be represented as an anthropic triad of Self-form-substrate, and the Absolute in the form of an absolute Trinity: absolute Self/absolute Form/absolute Substrate. At the same time, the anthropic triad can be considered as a “part” of the absolute Trinity. In the anthropic triad, the form-su

The subject of the study is the formation and content of ideas about freedom in the most significant philosophical and religious traditions and the outline of its links with modernity. Such traditions determine the nature of local civilizations. Understanding the unarticulated but latently present senses, mutual consideration of the hierarchies of values of large human communities can contribute to improving the quality of intercultural and intercivilizational dialogue. In each of the considered teachings, "freedom" turns out to be unique, and often incomparable. Moreover in such traditions as

The concept of “freedom” is one of the most defining in the European cultural and philosophical matrix. It is based on a synthesis of Judeo-Christian ideas, categories of Ancient philosophy and Roman law. An analysis of philosophical and historical sources suggests that this synthesis took place in the Christian sermon of an inner freedom, which is associated primarily with the epistles of Paul the Apostle. It is the paradox of Christian freedom, which is based on the recognition of universal sinfulness as a source of non-freedom, and overcoming it on the basis of love, is the basis for furthe

AbstractIn this paper, we revisit the relationship between economic freedom and growth across 407 German districts (Kreise). We build six indicators of economic freedom and cluster them into categories reflecting tax rates and size of the government and public sector. Exploiting the variation in the constructed indices of economic freedom, the evidence suggests less indebted districts with a lower share of taxes and a relatively smaller public sector achieve consistently higher growth rates and income levels.
