Abstract:
In this paper, the authors explore the methodical approach in Catholic religious education in kindergartens in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The theoretical framework is represented by the concept of holistic education. It also includes spiritual education, in the case of this study, religious education. The aim of the empirical part of the research is to determine the methodical elements of religious education in preschool institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina (types of religious educational activities in religious education of preschool children and their representation, religious climate) and to compare public kindergartens with Catholic kindergartens. The results indicate that practical and spontaneous religious activities are often used in the introduction of children to faith, while artistic activities are moderately used that religious activities are more often realized with the whole group, and average individualization, and that there is no statistically significant difference in the investigated elements of religious education between public and Catholic kindergartens.

Abstract:
The article examines the aims of education as they relate to the construction of religious-narrative identities of children. The concept of religion is taken from Claire Disbrey’s institutional theory of religion, which is examined in association with Paul Ricoeur’s concept of narrative identity. The construction of the religious-narrative identity is characterized by an interaction between individual and culture. On the basis of this conceptual framework the authors formulate six aims for the construction of religious-narrative identity in children. The teachers reported five of these six aims in an empirical study of teachers in Catholic primary schools in the Netherlands. The article concludes with a reflection on the results of the study.

Abstract:
Currently one can observe the recession in involvement of parents in the process of education of their own children in faith. One of the symptoms is lack of interest of parents to actively cooperate with religion teachers. That is why the reflection on cooperation between parents and religion teachers is necessary and required. This article focuses on this issue in the light of The new core curriculum of the Catholic Church in Poland (2018), which will take its effect on the 1st of September of 2020. At the beginning the understanding of the term "cooperation of parents and religion teacher" was described. Following train of thoughts of authors of the new document the work and dialog focused on education in faith of children and youth were emphasized. The author of the article took under consideration evangelization, catechization and education of parents. Then the focus moved toward goals and content, within the core curriculum itself, that are crucial to this kind of cooperation. Religion teacher must support parents in raising their children in faith by reminding them about their parental duties as first educators as well as through faith education of parents and their evangelization which can be accomplished through formation meetings. Such forms, according to authors of the new curriculum, are crucial in cooperation of religion teacher and parents. They need personal contact and relationship building, based on dialog and trust. Authors, though, are skeptic about indirect contact with parents (such as on-line class registry).
To sum up all of the proposals of the cooperation of religious teachers and parents included in new core curriculum, some pastoral postulates were formulated. The need for thorough diagnosis through empirical exercises has been highlighted. New technologies as ways for dialog with parents were deemed important, as well as initiating evangelistic actions and religious education of parents too.

Abstract:
The article presents an ecumenical education in the light of new core curricula for the religion education at schools and kindergartens. These documents were accepted and approved in 2018 and will take effect on the 1st of September of 2020. Currently one can see ongoing work on new series of workbooks. The aim was to notice and detect, whether or not, new documents and propositions within can inspire catechists and teachers to explore and become familiar with an ecumenical education. Goals and contents of the new Core curriculum of the religious education for the Catholic Church in Poland of 2018 for kindergartens and schools were carefully analysed, described and presented. It was done with the focus on ecumenical education. It was observed that the very idea of the ecumenism was treated lightly in aforementioned documents. The authors addressed this idea rarely and sparsely. Clear and concrete description of main foundations of the ecumenical formation were also not observed. The authors of analysed documents don’t put any stock in forming attitudes such as attitude of dialog, openness or respect, or so it seems. According to them, the main focus of religious education should be on history of the Church and general concepts and usual terms (i.e. divisions within the Church, attempts to undertake a dialog, etc.). All of these can create particular challenges and difficulties for those who work on new workbooks to include ecumenical education in its fullness.

Abstract:
Social disadvantage and minority group membership are believed to have an adverse effect on the development of the self-concept. However, the exact effects of such factors on children’s self-competence and self-esteem are still subject to debate, with some authors arguing that it is not until later in life that the adverse psychological effects of social disadvantage become apparent. This study therefore examined the relationship between gender, ethnicity, socioeconomic status (SES), and age on self-competence and self-esteem in childhood. Eight- to eleven-year-old children ( N = 689) completed the Harter Self-Perception Profile for Children (Harter, 1985) and the results were analysed using MANOVA. Substantial gender differences in self-perceptions across several domains, including global self-esteem, were evident. The analysis also indicated that children of lower SES and from the Roman Catholic (minority) community in Northern Ireland had significantly less positive self-perceptions than middle SES and Protestant (majority group) children in a range of domains. These differences, however, were generally only evidenced at ages 10 and 11. Discussion of these results highlights the influence of group memberships on children’s social development, particularly at the preadolescent stage, and points to the need to consider the combined effects of psychosocial identities and socioeconomic background on the development of self-perceptions.

Abstract:
Objective: This study has the objective of analyzing the work of Monsignor Alvaro Negromonte, one of the pioneers of Sex Education in Brazil. He wrote a series of books focused on christian formation of youth. Advocate for education in chastity, presented this way of life in his book Sexual Education (1937), his best known and most famous work, which influenced catholic education in Brazil in the early decades of the twentieth century. Design and Method: Using historic bibliografy research, the authors located and examined this important book published by Negromonte that contains information and descriptions about sexual conception and attitudes considered ideals for Negromonte and the catholic church. Results: We verified that the Catholic Church, with conservative ideals, which challenged the secularism in republican educational field, giving way to the discussion of sex education in youth. Consequently, Negromonte points out the need of essentially christian sexual education for young people. This work shows that the consolidation of Sexology in Brazil occurred in the first decades of 20th Century not only from the action of doctors and educators that created extensive work divulged in books and communications in scientific associations, but also by action of catholic church. Conclusions: Despite the conservative aspect of the work of Negromonte, we can not help but note his fundamental driving feature about the issue of sex education for children and adolescents. Like others pioneers, Negromonte made part of a movement that promoted intense, organized, bold and still unknown today actions in sex education in the first decades of XX Century.

Abstract:
The COVID-19 pandemic has influenced all spheres of life. It has an impact on the education of children and youth. The authors’ research focused on religious education during the pandemic by the Roman Catholic Church in Poland in the Śląskie Voivodeship. The criterion for choosing the environment was dictated by demographic conditions. The Śląskie Voivodeship has the highest population density per square kilometer, which contributed to the largest number of virus infections. The principal purpose of the research was to gather religion teachers’ opinions concerning organization and implementation of the remote teaching of religion in the Silesian Voivodeship (Województwo Śląskie). So far, there has been no research conducted in the field of the abovementioned issues in the area chosen by the authors. The authors’ research, carried out from June to August 2020, covered 700 people, which accounts for 18.7% of the religious education teachers working in the Śląskie Voivodeship. The results of the authors’ own research allowed formulating a conclusion that the COVID-19 pandemic contributed to the development of modern information and communication competencies of all participants of religious education. Entities involved in this type of education recognized and used multiple opportunities offered by information and communication technologies, which can be seen in the respondents’ declarations describing various forms of their didactic and educational on-line work. The COVID-19 pandemic has motivated parents to become more involved in the religious education of younger school-age children. The surveyed religion teachers declared that, thanks to the activity and the help of their parents, the children systematically participated in religion lessons and carried out orders and educational tasks without major problems. Thus, indirectly, parents of children of a younger school age were covered by religious education and were subject to pedagogy. Nevertheless, as teachers have pointed out, the virtual world makes it impossible to form authentic interpersonal relationships. The research confirmed the thesis, according to which religious education carried out in distance learning limits the complete implementation of its objectives, since an upbringing in faith calls for community that necessitates direct contact between the pupil and the teacher.

Abstract:
The article analyzes the ideological contradictions of liberal democracy, or neoliberalism (antiidentism), and traditionalism (identism) on the example of Christian churches. Antiindentism considers traditional religiosity to be hostile: it should be reformed to conform to neoliberal values, and it should be banished from public space. At the same time, antiidentism does not want to eliminate religion, because it is one of the identities that have to be redone like other human identites. The article examines anti-Christian movements (like the “Black Lives Matter”) as well as conservative and liberal movements within various confessions. The authors emphasize that the antiidentist demands are based on the Christian values of respect for any person, for women and men, regardless of anything, for humane methods of raising children, mercy for any categories of people, regardless of their sexual orientation, etc. On the other hand, the demands of antiidentists go far beyond Christian principles and even common sense (not to quote inconvenient passages of the Bible, to change the rules of church life and the appointment of clergy). The article proposes a classification of confessions by direction and by territorial feature, depending on specifics of divisions based on the attitude to antiidentism (American Churches, the Catholic Church, Lutherans and Anglicans as well as diversity of Orthodox churches that are also touched by the antiidentist wave). The authors conclude that the Christian churches, despite the existence of liberal factions, are primarily a traditionalist force in modern politics. Because of fundamental ideological differences, the consolidation of diverse Christian forces is a difficult task. However, there is some progress in this direction. Evangelicals, traditional Catholics, who make up the majority of the Catholic Church, as well as the majority of Orthodox Christians, are a serious political and, what perhaps more important, ideological force.

Abstract:
Object The authors assessed the efficacy of intratumoral interferon-α (IFNα)–based chemotherapy in pediatric patients with cystic craniopharyngiomas. Methods In a prospective multicenter study of 60 pediatric patients, the authors assessed the efficacy of intratumoral INFα2A-based chemotherapy. The study was conducted between 2000 and 2009 at 3 locations: the Medical School of the Federal University of São Paulo, Catholic University of Rome, and the Neurosurgery Institute of Santiago, Chile. The assessment included clinical and radiological control examinations, side effects observed, and total dose used. Results Sixty cases of cystic craniopharyngioma were analyzed. The cohort consisted of 35 male and 25 female children (mean age 11 years). Clinical and radiological improvement was achieved in 76% of the cases. New endocrinological deficits were observed in 13% of the cases. In approximately 30% of the patients, the evolution included some light side effects, the most common being headache (33%) and eyelid edema (28%). The number of cycles varied from 1 to 9 (mean 5 cycles), and the total dose applied per cycle was 36,000,000 IU. Conclusions This has been the largest documented series of intratumoral chemotherapy using INFα for the control of cystic craniopharyngiomas. The treatment has proved efficacious; there was no mortality, and morbidity rates were low.

Abstract:
The study's main focus is on figuring out the involvement of a part of the Halychyna Greek Catholic clergy in forming the ideology and developing the «Prosvita» Society. Exploring the Halychyna clergy representatives' participation in defining the ideological principles that justify the need to establish an educational organization, much attention is paid to the press appearances of Fr. S. Kachala and a member of the Constituent Assembly, pastor of Lopnianka village, Fr. Y. Zaiachkivskyi. It is noted that the election of Fr. Dr. O. Ohnovskyi in the first selection showed the involvement of the clergy in the creation of the governing body of the newly-founded institution and, accordingly, to the organization of educational work establishment. Also, the work of the pastors in the deployment of the publishing was investigated. Hence, the first authors and patrons of «Prosvita» publications were: Fr. S. Kachala, who prepared and financed the printing of the brochure «What Destroys Us, and What Can Help» and Fr. K. Seletskyi, who wrote and gave money to the publication of «Catechism for Greek‑Catholic Rite Children». During the first years of the institution's functioning, Fr. Hnat Rozhanskyi worked as an expert and reviewer of works recommended for printing and noted that he offered «Prosvita» to publish about the lives of the saints. While studying the formation of a membership structure, it was clear that the priests made more than a third part of all who gained the status of the educator in the first year. Out of 29 new members of the Society, 11 were priests and one Basilian. At the same time, the importance of the organizational and governing role of clerics in the further development of the institution is emphasized. Examples of all mentioned above are Fr. Dr. Omelian Ohonovskyi, professor of the Ukrainian language at Lviv University, who contributed to the successful establishment of «Prosvita» and transforming it into a massive, nationwide organization while being the fourth chairman of the Society (from May 31, 1877, to October 28, 1894); a Papal Chamberlain Rr. Mykhailo Tsehelskyi from Kaminka‑Strumylova (now Kamianka Buska), who organized a brunch in the early '90s of the 19th century and developed a notable educational movement in the Nadbuzhanskyi region. The conclusions in the final part of the research are: the Halychyna clergy, under challenging conditions due to their active civic position, made an important social base, which with its moral example, intelligence, and organizational efforts contributed to the development and strengthening of educational institutions in the land. Keywords: «Prosvita» Society, Greek-Catholic clergy, priests-enlighters.
