Caves on carbonate islands are useful indicators of past sea level because cave formation is dependent on sea-level controlled freshwater lens position (flank margin caves), or form in direct contact with coastal processes (sea caves). Sea-level curves present a useful proxy for glacioeustatic and paleoclimate studies, so caves offer useful data. Once a flank margin cave is breached, it may be modified and eroded by waves. We have investigated the construction of molecular cages from DNA. Polyhedral, nanometre-sized cages can be formed by self-assembly from synthetic DNA oligonucleotides (oligos). In this thesis, we demonstrate the encapsulation of a single molecule of the protein cytochrome c inside a DNA tetrahedron. Each edge of the tetrahedron is a 20 base pair (bp) DNA double helix with a length of 7 nm. Vagueness is ubiquitous in natural language. It seems incompatible with classical, bivalent logic, which tells us that every statement is either true or false, and none is vaguely true. Yet we do manage to reason using vague natural language. In fact, the majority of our day-to-day reasoning involves vague terms and concepts. The bulk of the homicide research to date has focused on male offending, with little consideration given to women's offending and in particular, their constructions within the courtroom following a homicide-related charge. This thesis examines, in detail, nineteen homicide cases finalised in the Queensland Supreme Courts between 01/01/1997 and 31/12/2002, in order to document and discuss the various legal stories available to women who kill. Foi realizado um estudo das hepatopatias de cães, dando ênfase aos achados patológicos de doenças hepáticas infecciosas. Foram realizadas, no período de janeiro de 2000 a dezembro de 2009, 4.573 necropsias de cães e em 396 casos (8,66%) corresponderam a doenças hepáticas. Diagnosticaram-se doenças hepáticas infecciosas ou inflamatórias em 48,74% dos casos (193/396). A leptospirose canina foi a principal hepatopatia encontrada, diagnosticada em 150 cães (37,88% das doenças hepáticas). This thesis explored whether patients in high security hospitals are more ‘Complex Cases’ or more ‘Difficult Cases’ than their counterparts in lower security settings.
