Abstract:
Company A develops algorithms and hardware for the application of magnet tracking, to be able to use a dipole magnet as an interaction tool between humans and computers. This master thesis investigates the available magnetic sensors through a market survey and practical testing of a selection of the sensors in purpose to determine the most suitable magnetic sensor and magnetic sensor technology for the application of magnet tracking. With the most suitable sensor found in the investigation, a sensor platform is designed and manufactured. The sensor HMC5983 from Honeywell is found to be the most suitable sensor and is designed into the sensor platform, which also includes ,for instance, a wireless MCU, CC2640 from Texas Instru- ments, together with a PCB antenna and a PSU including a battery charger, BQ24075 from Texas Instruments. The most suitable mag- netic sensor technology was found to be magnetoresistive sensors. The sensor platform was designed according to the requirements and is working good enough to enable company A to start testing their algorithms for magnet tracking on the new platform.

Abstract:
Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) have gained significant consideration these days, as opposed to wired sensor networks, by introducing multi-functional wireless nodes, which are smaller in size. The main advan-tage is that its wireless, so it costs less to install, maintain and reconfig-ure. These sensor nodes are used in various application areas. For ex-ample: residential, industrial, environmental and military application areas. However WSNs communication is prone to negative influences from the physical environment, such as physical obstacles and interfer-ence. Algorithms must be developed for handling these problems and also to investigate the channel properties. The purpose of this work is to design a testbed, which enables the communication of wireless sensor nodes, to capture the properties of the channel, which will, in the long run, enable better solutions to be designed which are, more appropriate to the errors in the channel. In this testbed, one channel, from the IEEE 802.15.4 channels spectrum, is dedicated as an emergency channel, which is used for handshaking and to handle channel/external interfer-ence or hardware failure between the communication of Transmitter (TX) and Receiver (RX) nodes. The remaining 15 channels are called data channels and are used for actual data transmission and control signals. Peer to Peer transmission of a transmitter-receiver pair is achieved with the introducing of beacons and acknowledgment (ACK) packets. The testbed also has the property of dual reception and data logging on a single PC by maeans of two RX nodes simultaneously from a single TX node. The dependency of the packet on the “Frame Length” byte(in the Frame header) during the reception is eliminated so that if the “Frame Length” byte is compromised, it will replace the programmer defined value with the “Frame Length” byte which helps to investigate the actual packets byte sent from the TX. Also, the Received Signal Strength (RSS) is calculated at the maximum sample rate of the channel. Power consumption is not considered in this testbed. The work is conducted on both the IEEE 802.15.4 physical and the application layers. Linux based TinyOS-2.x is used as an operating system for low power sensor devices. New algorithms are designed for each step in the development of the testbed. MICAz motes are used as nodes and an MIB520 programming board is used for burning the codes and for the purpose of gateways.

Agrawal, Ambuj. "Implementation of Application Layer Protocol for an Active RFID System." Thesis, Virginia Tech, 2011. http://hdl.handle.net/10919/34961.

Abstract:
The emerging technology of active RFID tags has strong potential in the areas of real time health monitoring, sorting of cargo, and large scale inventory management because of their longer communication range and larger data storage capacity. The market of active RFID is growing very rapidly and therefore there has been an increase in the number of companies engaging in this field. But very often it is found that the products available in the market are not always suited to the application at hand. To overcome this problem, off the shelf active RFID products which were reconfigurable and followed a standard PHY and MAC layer protocol were used for this work. By reprogramming the application layer protocol of the RFID hardware, these devices were made suitable for the desired application. This also allowed the RFID tags to extend their functionality by interfacing extra modules with themselves. The work presented in this thesis describes the way in which the microcontroller on board the active RFID tags and readers can be programmed so that the functionality of the RFID hardware can be changed as per requirements. It also shows that extra modules can be added to the tag by successfully interfacing an accelerometer module with the tag.

Abstract:
Wireless sensor network, which is constitute of autonomous sensors, is used for monitoring physical or environmental conditions like temperature, sound, pressure, and so on. The dispersed sensors or nodes will respectively pass their data through the network to the main location. Currently, several standards are ratified or in developing for wireless sensor network, like Wireless Hart, ISA, 100.11a, WIA-PAA, IEEE 802.15.4, etc. Among the standards, Zigbee is often used in industrial applications that require short-range and low-rate wireless transfer. In the research, all the data is collected under industrial environment using IEEE 802.15.4 compliant physical layer, some packets are interfered only by multi-path fading while others are also interfered by Wi-Fi interference. The goal of the thesis is to find out the dependence between the received power (RSS), correlation value (CORR) and bit error rate (BER) of the received message, and their distribution in situations both when the packet is lost or not. Besides, the performance of bit error rate such as the distribution and the features of burst error length under Wi-Fi interference or not will also be tested. All of them are based on a precise statistical processing.

Abstract:

This thesis will investigate the possibilities to wireless communicate within time critical applications with the radio protocol IEEE 802.15.4.

IEEE 802.15.4 is a very quick protocol so the delays and jitter can be ignored in a small network.

The thesis handles the question: Is it possible to split a CAN-bus and send the data via radio to the other side of the CAN-bus?

The big problems with this are:

• Will it be treated like a transparent link and not disturb the original functionality?

• How does a system which is split up by radio treat new nodes on the bus?

• What will be the maximum speed and the maximum utilization factor for the split up bus?

• What new suitable protocols can be implemented on a higher level to get the split bus to work?

This is modeled and discussed, real measurement from a radio link is used in the model to see if it’s possible.

The radio communication will satisfy the demands from the company regarding their application. With an efficient error handling and a smart transmission protocol the application can be a very smart way of sending CAN-data via radio.

Sensors have been an integral part of our life since a long time. Traditionally, the transmit information to a data collection center through a physical wire. However, with the introduction of Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) communication protocol, more research is being done into the field of wireless sensor networks (WSN). BLE was introduced to target low power applications. The CC2650 Launchpad designed by Texas Instruments (TI) can lead to a bulky final product. The aim was to design hardware for the CC2650 micro-controller with the aim of making it more compact for use in WSNs. A top-down approach was used wherein the available product is studied to identify the redundant and reverse engineer it to design a new product. A 2 layer printed circuit board (PCB) was designed which resulted in a 64 percent decrease in size compared to the Launchpad. Also, experiments were performed to test the proof of concept.

Abstract:
In wireless sensor networks, communications are usually destroyed by signal attenuation, multipath fading and different kinds of interferences like WLAN and microwave oven interference. In order to build a stable wireless communication system, reactions like retransmission mechanisms are necessary. Since the way we must react to interference is different from the way we react to multipathfading and attenuation, the retransmission mechanism should be adjusted in different ways under those different cicumstances. Under this condition, channel diagnostics for discriminating the causes that corrupt the packets between multipath fading and attenuation (MFA) and WLAN interference are imperative. This paper presents a frame bit error rate (F-BER) regulated algorithm based on a joint RSSI-LQI classifier that may correctly diagnose the channel status. This discriminator is implemented on MicaZ sensor devices equipped with CC2420 transceivers. This discriminator is able to improve the accuracy to 91%. Although we need to wait for 2 or 3 necessary packets to make a decision, higher stability and reliability are presented when operating this discriminator.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Transfusion services have a weak evidence base compared to many other modern healthcare practices. Diversity of platelet concentrate quality and deterioration of function during ageing is poorly understood and difficult to measure. No single test is currently suitable to assess concentrate quality for product development purposes or to confirm suitability of individual concentrates for clinical use. Many of the studies in this field investigate the in vitro association between concentrate age and test results. Not all quality indicators are equally informative because a number of storage associated changes correct upon infusion. This study aims to evaluate novel platelet quality assessment techniques that may be of use in determining platelet concentrate quality. The initial stages of the study involved development of reference methods and in vitro assessment of novel techniques for assessing platelet concentrate quality using out of date concentrates. Reference methods included swirl assessment, pH measurement, hypotonic shock response (HSR) and extent shape change (ESC) assays. Novel techniques investigated included the iZON impedance analyser, the ThromboLUX instrument, rotation thromboelastometry (ROTEM) and an automated, simplified version of the HSR test named the automated water expulsion (AWE) test. After initial technical development of the assays, a study of the test results obtained throughout platelet concentrate ageing in the laboratory and under different storage conditions was undertaken. This was followed by a small, proof of concept clinical trial, in which in vitro test results of platelet concentrate samples obtained from the giving set after platelet transfusion were compared to measures of transfusion outcome in myelodisplasia (MDS) patients. Transfusion efficacy was assessed using self assessment bleeding questionnaires and 1 hour post-transfusion corrected count increment (CCI). Although the number of patients included in the trial was too low to reach any definite conclusions, the ThromboLUX, ROTEM and AWE tests all showed enough potential to warrant further investigation as part of a larger clinical trial in the future.

Abstract:
When installing new network security cameras in buildings, the cameras are often connected to sensors via signal wires. Since most building already have internet and electricity drawn throughout the structure, the procedure of routing a new signal wire can be costly and time demanding. By replacing this wire with a wireless link, the cost and time it takes for the customer to install a camera could be reduced. The objective for this thesis is to investigate different wireless technologies used in short range, low power wireless communication networks such as PANs and LANs. Focusing on technologies used in the surveillance segment a decision will be made on which wireless technology that would suit as a link between a sensor and a camera for transmitting trigger signals. The technology will then be implemented in a proof-of-concept accessory, which can give an Axis Communications camera wireless functionality through it’s IO port.

Al-Hoqani, Noura Y. S. "In-network database query processing for wireless sensor networks." Thesis, Loughborough University, 2018. https://dspace.lboro.ac.uk/2134/36226.

Abstract:
In the past research, smart sensor devices have become mature enough for large, distributed networks of such sensors to start to be deployed. Such networks can include tens or hundreds of independent nodes that can perform their functions without human interactions such as recharging of batteries, the configuration of network routes and others. Each of the sensors in the wireless sensor network is considered as microsystem, which consists of memory, processor, transducers and low bandwidth as well as a low range radio transceiver. This study investigates an adaptive sampling strategy for WSS aimed at reducing the number of data samples by sensing data only when a significant change in these processes is detected. This detection strategy is based on an extension to Holt's Method and statistical model. To investigate this strategy, the water consumption in a household is used as a case study. A query distribution approach is proposed, which is presented in detail in chapter 5. Our developed wireless sensor query engine is programmed on Sensinode testbed cc2430. The implemented model used on the wireless sensor platform and the architecture of the model is presented in chapters six, seven, and eight. This thesis presents a contribution by designing the experimental simulation setup and by developing the required database interface GUI sensing system, which enables the end user to send the inquiries to the sensor s network whenever needed, the On-Demand Query Sensing system ODQS is enhanced with a probabilistic model for the purpose of sensing only when the system is insufficient to answer the user queries. Moreover, a dynamic aggregation methodology is integrated so as to make the system more adaptive to query message costs. Dynamic on-demand approach for aggregated queries is implemented, based in a wireless sensor network by integrating the dynamic programming technique for the most optimal query decision, the optimality factor in our experiment is the query cost. In-network query processing of wireless sensor networks is discussed in detail in order to develop a more energy efficient approach to query processing. Initially, a survey of the research on existing WSN query processing approaches is presented. Building on this background, novel primary achievements includes an adaptive sampling mechanism and a dynamic query optimiser. These new approaches are extremely helpful when existing statistics are not sufficient to generate an optimal plan. There are two distinct aspects in query processing optimisation; query dynamic adaptive plans, which focus on improving the initial execution of a query, and dynamic adaptive statistics, which provide the best query execution plan to improve subsequent executions of the aggregation of on-demand queries requested by multiple end-users. In-network query processing is attractive to researchers developing user-friendly sensing systems. Since the sensors are a limited resource and battery powered devices, more robust features are recommended to limit the communication access to the sensor nodes in order to maximise the sensor lifetime. For this reason, a new architecture that combines a probability modelling technique with dynamic programming (DP) query processing to optimise the communication cost of queries is proposed. In this thesis, a dynamic technique to enhance the query engine for the interactive sensing system interface is developed. The probability technique is responsible for reducing communication costs for each query executed outside the wireless sensor networks. As remote sensors have limited resources and rely on battery power, control strategies should limit communication access to sensor nodes to maximise battery life. We propose an energy-efficient data acquisition system to extend the battery life of nodes in wireless sensor networks. The system considers a graph-based network structure, evaluates multiple query execution plans, and selects the best plan with the lowest cost obtained from an energy consumption model. Also, a genetic algorithm is used to analyse the performance of the approach. Experimental testing are provided to demonstrate the proposed on-demand sensing system capabilities to successfully predict the query answer injected by the on-demand sensing system end-user based-on a sensor network architecture and input query statement attributes and the query engine ability to determine the best and close to the optimal execution plan, given specific constraints of these query attributes . As a result of the above, the thesis contributes to the state-of-art in a network distributed wireless sensor network query design, implementation, analysis, evaluation, performance and optimisation.

Abstract:
The research presented in this dissertation explores the interaction between English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teachers and the classroom materials they develop. It aims to illuminate the potential value of this creative process for teachers’ development of critically reflective practice (CRP). For many EFL teachers, materials are an essential part of their pedagogy. Despite the widespread availability of publications for this compulsory subject in Dutch secondary education, many teachers choose to supplement the coursebook with their own materials. A premise of this research is that the materials teachers develop embody their personal theories of action regarding EFL teaching and learning. These theories, consisting of espoused principles and principles-in-use, are conceptualised as the teachers’ pedagogic principles. Critical reflection may help teachers uncover their espoused and tacit principles with the aim to align them, and improve their teaching practice. The central question is: In what ways does classroom materials development offer teachers of English a tool for CRP? The research questions are addressed through a qualitative, exploratory, embedded multiple-case study approach. Four Dutch EFL teachers are considered as individual cases. The components of each case are analysed to present an encompassing view of the materials development process: reflective logs (creation), the materials themselves (product), and lesson observations (use) are supplemented with pre- and post-lesson interviews to complete data collection. Data are analysed through deductive and inductive within-case analysis and cross-case synthesis. Findings suggest that teachers’ pedagogic principles are multifarious, informed by practical and pragmatic considerations, and revealed at several points and in a variety of ways during the materials development process. Yet it is only when teachers engage in dialogue about them that increased awareness of these principles ensues. CRP may thus be stimulated by a critical friend, and the materials development process can provide an impetus for discussion and dialogue.

Wireless networks are widely popular in modern. The collision occurring is one of the reasons affecting the transmission efficiency. To mitigate the collision issue, the carrier sensing multiple access with collision avoidance (CSMA/CA) protocol is widely applied in wireless networks. IEEE 802.11 DCF protocol and IEEE 802.15.4 CSMA/CA protocol are the most well-known CSMA/CA based protocols. The primary difference between them is how carrier sensing is performed. Stations continuously sense the medium before transmissions in an IEEE 802.11 network, while stations in an IEEE 802.15.4 network only sense once after backoff operation. The thesis is mainly about software architecture design of the IEEE 802.11 DCF protocol on an IEEE 802.15.4 transceiver. Experiment results show that, without continuously sensing, the transmission failure probability of IEEE 802.15.4 CSMA/CA increases dramatically with the network size. Consequently, the IEEE 802.11 DCF protocol provides better performance in the packet loss probability and throughput than IEEE 802.15.4 CSMA/CA does.

In IEEE 802.15.4 networks, routers cannot enter sleep mode to reduce power consumption and runs out of battery power quickly. In addition, the implementation of CSMA/CA protocol in IEEE 802.15.4 is different from that in IEEE 802.11. Because a node does not perform channel sensing during backoff, a collision may occurs when a node transmit a packet. As a result, IEEE 802.15.4 is unsuitable for wireless sensor networks (WSN). In this thesis, we design and implement the CSMA / CA protocol based on IEEE 802.11 by TI CC2530 for wireless sensor networks. For hardware-related programming, we have implemented the RF driver, the MAC Timer driver, the interrupt service routines, the channel sensing mechanism, and the two-way handshaking CSMA/CA protocol. A prototype platform was built and packets are successfully delivered between multiple nodes. In the future, the platform can be extended to a complete media access control (MAC) layer suitable for wireless sensor networks, such as the well-know S-MAC.

The data was collected through structured questionnaires, with a research population sample targeting all students at the school during the fall 2013 semester. There are 114 valid respondents (96.6% of the students). The main findings are as follows: 1.Among the students surveyed, there are no marked differences between boys and girls in their levels of oral health knowledge, attitude, behavior, and self-efficacy. 2.The students surveyed have adequate levels of oral health knowledge. They show positive levels of oral health attitude, behavior, and self-efficacy. 3.The students surveyed show marked differences in their levels of oral health knowledge, attitude, behavior, influence by the attitudes of important figures, and self-efficacy when taking into account the following factors: (1) level of schooling (2) level of academic achievement (3) living together with or apart from parents (4) mother’s country of origin (5) socioeconomic status 4.Among the students surveyed, fifth graders show the highest level of oral health knowledge, attitude, as well as the most amount of positive influence by the attitudes of important figures. Sixth graders show the highest levels of self-efficacy. 5.The students are surveyed for their oral health knowledge, attitude, self-efficacy, influence by the attitudes important others, and behavior. All of these factors exhibit a clear, positive relationship with one another. 6. The following socio-demographic differences can serve as good predictors of individual oral health behavior among the students: (1) Grade of schooling (2) Level of academic achievement (3) Service in class leadership positions (4) Living together with or apart from parents (5) Mother’s country of origin (6) Level of education attained by parents 7. Oral health knowledge, oral health self-efficacy, and whether students live with or apart from their parents have the greatest combined effect (80.7%) on changes in oral health behavior. Of these factors, oral health knowledge was the most influential, followed by oral health self-efficacy. Key words: oral health knowledge, oral health attitudes, and oral health behavior

Seeing movies has become the most popular leisure activity now, the box-office continue to break records, but the budget of movies are so high, if there were no evaluation, it may be huge loss. If we can predict box-office before it is released, film studios, film distribution and investors can make their decision more easily. There are many factors to influence box-office, directors, actors/actresses, etc. Now, Internet has become the most important way to transfer information, online reviews may be seen by users and take effect on them. Our research collects 2009 to 2014 movie data and reviews from IMDb, includes 5 genres and total 1,658 movies, we use SentiStrength and Stanford CoreNLP to analyse reviews, combined with movies data and external factor to predict box-office. We use M5P, Linear Regression and SMOreg methods to build prediction models, and compare the result without reviews and result with reviews. The result shows that the prediction models with reviews are better than without reviews, but if we spilt the data into different year, the results would be lower because the lack of data. Reviews can help the result of prediction, and the principal factor is the number of reviews, reviews can only influence specific genres of movies.

Their contribution can't dequestioned. The subject of this thesis "Manhole of Laborer" as a research topics.Mainly because of under the city and information technolgy, With the urbanization more and more seriously.Modern people gradually vanish for care laborer.Self-reflection and introspection which generated.Byobservaion ,theoretical discussion and creative pactice to explore the modern people of care about laborer and the extent of disregard.Trying to work with the image of expression.Presented by the actual operation. The thesis is divided into five chapters, the first chapter, investigation of human and social workers "disregard" of the phenomenon, and look to the individual creation "visualize" the labors work should take to convey to the community. The second chapter of art sociology perspective, the status of Taiwan's labor reports and related literature and realism as the theoreticalbasis.focuses on how art can reflect on social issues and through literature and media reading, to promote their own understanding of Taiwan's labor situation, as individuals creative development and think up of the root. Chapter Three creative ideas and techniques, the author in the creation of content and shape through many problems table to discuss how to present the "disregrard" and "caring" creative ideas. The fourth chapter analyzes and interpretation of creative content, allowing viewers to understand the meaning of the image content and presentation creation. The fifth chapter is a summary of creative ideas, to share the results and outlook for the future. Through the creation of this post type of articles, the researchers record their own concept and idea, in practice, then via the image presented in the "Road Martyr", "Disregard" and "Labor fate" as the theme of these three series of works, Description loyal and hard working laborers usually work posture of submissive fatalism, the other is the lack of modern workers for the care and understanding. Also looking for realism from theory to position themselves created, realized these connections and value. In addition to this the researchers reflect the current situation, but also expect to be able to create the viewer, as the government might not have much influence, but I can tell through the language of art, described by the language of art to express sincere social, and hope the community can develop upward.

This thesis would break the myth of connection numbers of traditional Bluetooth. The author develops a novel Bluetooth communication App on intelligent cellular phones with Windows Phone 8.1, and proposes the technology combine ZigBee with Bluetooth to reach the construction of a novel control platform of one-to-many Bluetooth transmission. The software adopts Microsoft Windows Phone 8.1 to develop related transmission middleware, and then connect the coordinator with chips of TI CC2530 ZigBee SoC and Bluetooth. In other words, the strong integration abilities of the above mentioned chips can not only play the role of transmission broker, but also change the Bluetooth signal into the 2.4GHz ZigBee signal that fitted with the standard of IEEE 802.15.4 in order to indeed make the expanding basis of signal transmission. Furthermore, the proposed platform also employs many CC2530 chips to compose an End Device for simultaneously receiving ZigBee signals. This method can not only control peripheral devices for easily building the novel control platform of one-to-many Bluetooth transmission, but also go through the help of ZigBee technology to effectively translate and expand the transmission scope of Bluetooth for practically reaching the study goal. The most important contribution is to employ Windows Phone 8.1 and integrate with CC2530. It can not merely integrate related arguments setting of ZigBee into the interface of an intelligent cellular phone for easily browsing those arguments on a corresponding interface, but also go through the help of Bluetooth to integrate data with interface messages for completely avoiding the complex setting of ZigBee systems via the computer wired connection.

Abstract:
Approximately one third of the genes for the completely sequenced bacterial genomes have an unknown, uncertain, or incorrect functional annotation. Approximately 11,000 putative proteins identified from the fully-sequenced microbial genomes are members of the catalytically diverse Amidohydrolase Superfamily. Members of the Amidohydrolase Superfamily separate into 24 Clusters of Orthologous Groups (cogs). Cog3653 includes proteins annotated as N-acyl-D-amino acid deacetylases (DAAs), and proteins within cog2355 are homologues to the human renal dipeptidase. The substrate profiles of three DAAs (Bb3285, Gox1177 and Sco4986) and six microbial dipeptidase (Sco3058, Gox2272, Cc2746, LmoDP, Rsp0802 and Bh2271) were examined with N-acyl-L-, N-acyl-D-, L-Xaa-L-Xaa, L-Xaa-D-Xaa and D-Xaa-L-Xaa substrate libraries. The rates of hydrolysis of the library components were determined by separating the amino acids by HPLC and quantitating the products. Gox1177 and Sco4986 hydrolyzed several N-acyl-D-amino acids, especially those where the amino acid was a hydrophobic residue. Gox1177 hydrolyzed L-Xaa-D-Xaa and N-acetyl-D-amino acids with similar catalytic efficiencies (~10⁴ M⁻¹s⁻¹). The best substrates identified for Gox1177 and Sco4986 were N-acetyl-D-Trp and N-acetyl-D-Phe, respectively. Conversely, Bb3285 hydrolyzed N-acyl-D-Glu substrates (kcat/Km ⁹́⁸ 5 x 10⁶M⁻¹s⁻¹) and, to a lesser extent, L-Xaa-D-Glu dipeptides. The structure of a DAA from A. faecalis did not help explain the substrate specificity of Bb3285. N-methylphosphonate derivatives of D-amino acids were inhibitors of the DAAs examined. The structure of Bb3285 was solved in complex with the N-methylphosphonate derivative of D-Glu or acetate/formate. The specificity of Bb3285 was due to an arginine located on a loop which varied in conformation from the A. faecalis enzyme. In a similar manner, six microbial renal dipeptidase-like proteins were screened with 55 dipeptide libraries. These enzymes hydrolyzed many dipeptides but favored L-D dipeptides. Respectable substrates were identified for proteins Bh2271 (L-Leu-D-Ala, kcat/Km = 7.4 x 10⁴ M⁻¹s⁻¹), Sco3058 (L-Arg-D-Asp, kcat/Km = 7.6 x 10⁵ M⁻¹s⁻¹), Gox2272 (L-Asn-D-Glu, kcat/Km = 4.7 x 10⁵ M⁻¹s⁻¹), Cc2746 (L-Met-D-Leu, kcat/Km = 4.6 x 10⁵ M⁻¹s⁻¹), LmoDP (L-Leu-D-Ala, kcat/Km = 1.1 x 10⁵ M⁻¹s⁻¹), Rsp0802 (L-Met-D-Leu, kcat/Km = 1.1 x 10⁵ M⁻¹s⁻¹). Phosphinate mimics of dipeptides were inhibitors of the dipeptidases. The structures of Sco3058, LmoDP and Rsp0802 were solved in complex with the pseudodipeptide mimics of L-Ala-D-Asp, L-Leu-D-Ala and L-Ala-D-Ala, respectively. The structures were used to assist in the identification of the structural determinants of substrate specificity.
