This master’s thesis deals with calibration of a coherence scanning interferometer Talysurf CCI Lite. Basic terms related to surface texture evaluation were described along with selected profile and areal surface texture parameters. The working principle and design of the calibrated instrument were explained. Manufacturer’s calibration procedure was analyzed in relation to the definition of calibration in the International vocabulary of metrology. Further calibration steps leading to calculation of measurement uncertainty were presented. Last but not least, measurement uncertainties of areal surface texture parameters Sq and Sz were evaluated. The procedures and results described in this thesis may contribute to wider use of non-contact surface texture measuring instruments.

A arbitragem é um instituto previsto no direito brasileiro que consiste num método de solução de conflitos alternativo ao Poder Judiciário. Quando as duas partes concordam, procuram uma instituição especializado para que a controvérsia seja solucionada por meio da decisão de um ou mais árbitros. Desde 1996 com a aprovação da Lei da Arbitragem o laudo arbitral apresenta a validade de uma sentença judicial regular, devendo igualmente ser cumprido. Essa incorporação do instituto no Brasil está inserida no movimento transnacional de reforma dos sistemas de justiça nacionais visando adaptá-los ao mercado em expansão da arbitragem internacional. Inspirado em vários instrumentos internacionais, principalmente na Lei Modelo da Comissão das Nações Unidas para o Comércio Internacional (UNCITRAL), o método também permite a integração do país no esforço mais amplo de harmonização do direito entre os países. O principal objetivo desta tese é, assim, analisar esse processo de transplante da arbitragem ao contexto jurídico brasileiro. Para isso, inicialmente reconstitui o surgimento das mais importantes instituições da arbitragem comercial internacional e, em seguida, investiga a assimilação local deste instituto. Este último processo é analisado à luz da mobilização que resultou na aprovação da legislação em 1996, bem como da abordagem do funcionamento da arbitragem atualmente. O argumento destaca a participação fundamental dos intermediários para o sucesso da operação de mediação entre instâncias globais e locais. O trabalho finaliza com uma reflexão acerca do encaixe estrutural da arbitragem no campo do direito nacional.<br>Arbitration is an alternative dispute resolution mechanism allowed by the Brazilian law. When both parties agree about it, they search for an specialized institution that will delegate the resolution of the conflict to one or more arbitrators. Passage of Brazils 1996 Arbitration Act recognized the validity of decisions reached by arbitrators. The incorporation of arbitration in the country happens as part of an international movement to reform local justice systems adapting them to the growth of the commercial arbitration market. Brazil\'s law was inspired by various international instruments, including the UNCITRAL (United Nations Commission on International Trade Law) Model Law and can be considered part of a broader effort to homogenize law across countries. The main goal of this dissertation is, thus, to analyze the arbitration transplant to the Brazilian legal context. To do so, it first explores the emergence of the main institutions of international commercial arbitration and then it investigates its local assimilation. This process is analyzed through the mobilization that resulted in the approval of the law in 1996 and also through the exploration of the way by which arbitration operates today. The argument emphasizes the role of the gatekeepers in intermediating the local and the global. This work finishes with a reflection about the structural fitting of arbitration in the local judicial field.

The clinical relevance of vitamin B3, nicotinamide (NAm), has been demonstrated in a variety of injury models to exert a number of therapeutic benefits in the protection against and treatment of traumatic brain injury (TBI). This study investigated its efficacy on recovery from TBI in animals of differing ages (6- and 10-months old) that were injured using the controlled cortical impact model and tested for motor and cognitive recovery following injury. Injured animals were treated with NAm or saline following injury and sham-injured animals were included as a control group. It was hypothesized that increasing age reduces the potentiality of recovery from injury as well as a decreased therapeutic benefit derived from the post-injury administration of NAm. The results found that neither the 6- nor 10-month old animals treated with NAm demonstrated improved functional recovery, indicating that age is an important factor in the vitamin's efficacy. These results indicate that the success of possible treatments for TBI needs to also consider the effects of an individual's age on the drug's effectiveness.

The goal of this study was to investigate the therapeutic potential of memantine on functional recovery following a cortical contusion impact (CCI) traumatic brain injury (TBI) in a rodent model. A unilateral parietal injury was induced and compared to open sham surgeries under controlled experimental conditions. Animals were randomly assigned to a sham group, vehicle-treated injured group, or memantine-treated injured group. Dosage regimens were designed to provide serum concentrations in the range obtained with clinically approved doses, using both a low (5 mg/kg) and high (20 mg/kg) dose for 48 h. Functional recovery was assessed using five behavioral assessments, as well as neuropathological measurements. Motor function was observed using the locomotor placing task, the rotor-rod procedure, and a photobeam activity monitoring system. Cognitive function as learning ability was assessed through the Morris Water Maze and a passive avoidance assessment. Memantine did not improve motor or cognitive function in any of the behavioral assessments. These results indicate that while memantine may provide benefits at a neurobiological level, its therapeutic potential on the recovery of behavioral function following TBI is severely limited.

In the early twentieth century Cardinal Patrick Moran and others, both clerical and lay, understood that the adolescent Australian Catholic Church needed physical as well as spiritual support. The Church, as trustee, had an economic imperative to care for and maintain its properties. In 1910 Moran asked Hugh Mahon, a feisty Irishman and an Australian federal politician, to establish an Australian Catholic insurance company to achieve this purpose. Moran made it clear that the primary purpose of the company was to protect the assets and properties of the Church and that the company was to serve the Church only. Mahon took as his model the Irish Catholic Church Property Insurance Company founded in Dublin in 1902 and gathered around him laymen with impeccable Catholic and business connections to support him in the running of this new company. The Irish laity had become prominent as board members and shareholders in the Irish company and the founding board members of the Australian company, with Mahon as Managing Director, were all laymen with Irish backgrounds. The thesis traces the foundation and early history of this company and analyses those practices that distinguish it from secular insurance companies during the first twenty-fives of operation. The study intertwines many strands: Episcopal vision, Irish heritage, aspirations of the Catholic community for both the religious and the laity and how the spiritual and social services of the Church’s mission were evident in the works of this new company and their supporters.

The primary objective of this thesis is to design advanced interference resilient schemes for asynchronous slow frequency hopping wireless personal area networks (FH-WPAN) and time division multiple access (TDMA) cellular systems in interference dominant environments. We also propose an interference-resilient power allocation method for multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) systems.
For asynchronous FH-WPANs in the presence of frequent packet collisions, we propose a single antenna interference canceling dual decision feedback (IC-DDF) receiver based on joint maximum likelihood (ML) detection and recursive least squares (RLS) channel estimation. For the system level performance evaluation, we propose a novel geometric method that combines bit error rate (BER) and the spatial distribution of the traffic load of CCI for the computation of packet error rate (PER). We also derived the probabilities of packet collision in multiple asynchronous FH-WPANs with uniform and nonuniform traffic patterns.
For the design of TDMA receivers resilient to CCI in frequency selective channels, we propose a soft output joint detection interference rejection combining delayed decision feedback sequence estimation (JD IRC-DDFSE) scheme. In the proposed scheme, IRC suppresses the CCI, while DDFSE equalizes ISI with reduced complexity. Also, the soft outputs are generated from IRC-DDFSE decision metric to improve the performance of iterative or non-iterative type soft-input outer code decoders.
For the design of interference resilient power allocation scheme in MIMO systems, we investigate an adaptive power allocation method using subset antenna transmission (SAT) techniques. Motivated by the observation of capacity imbalance among the multiple parallel sub-channels, the SAT method achieves high spectral efficiency by allocating power on a selected transmit antenna subset. For 4 x 4 V-BLAST MIMO systems, the proposed scheme with SAT showed analogous results. Adaptive modulation schemes combined with the proposed method increase the capacity gains. From a feasibility viewpoint, the proposed method is a practical solution to CCI-limited MIMO systems since it does not require the channel state information (CSI) of CCI.

La présente recherche a pour objet l'étude des processus de décisions dans une organisation pluraliste. Elle prend pour terrain de recherche une importante Chambre de Commerce et d'Industrie de l'Est de la France et pose la problématique générale suivante : « Comment améliorer la prise de décision dans une organisation politique ? ». A la suite de notre revue de la littérature, nous avons retenu trois dimensions dans la décision nous paraissant pertinentes dans le cadre de ce travail : une dimension d'ordre temporel, une dimension d'ordre sociocognitif (chez les acteurs de la décision) et une dimension technique (quels outils de gestion ?) Ce travail s'est inscrit dans une approche pratique de la décision, expliquant ainsi notre référence à la théorie de l'acteur réseau dont l'utilisation nous a semblé parfaitement pertinente pour ce type d'organisation.Nous avons travaillé sur trois études de cas au sein de la CCI : la mutualisation des services export, la supervision de la gestion d'un aéroport régional et le développement de l'école de commerce consulaire. A l'issue de la recherche, nous pouvons mettre en avant des apports d'ordre conceptuel et prescriptif.Parmi les apports conceptuels, nous validons le modèle de « décideur express » au sein des organisations pluralistes, celui-ci étant de nature à réduire la complexité de sens des acteurs. Par ailleurs, nous avons aussi pu montrer l'intérêt de séparer ceux qui portent les décisions et ceux qui doivent les mettre en oeuvre par la suite. Les porteurs de projets ne doivent pas être ceux qui les pilotent. Les différentes études de cas ont montré également la nécessité d'un contrôle de gestion proactif dans les organisations pluralistes.Enfin, ce travail de thèse propose un guide des bonnes pratiques répondant à la problématique générale sur l'amélioration de la prise de décisions. Cela s'inscrit aussi dans la dimension « decision as practice » de la recherche et dont l'un des objectifs est de soumettre des implications managériales<br>This research aims to study the process of decisions in a complexorganization. Based on three cases studies in a wide Chamber of Industry andCommerce, this work raises the following question ?How to improve the decisionmaking in a political organization?Following our review of the literature, we kept three dimensions in thedecision appearing to us relevant within the framework of this work: a temporaldimension, a dimension of socio-cognitive order (at the actors of the decision) anda technical dimension (which management tools?).This research was part of a practical approach of the decision. This is thereason why we used the Actor Network Theory which seems to be appropriate forthis type of organization. We worked on three case studies: the pooling of exportservices, the management of a regional airport and the development of the consular business school.Among the conceptual contributions, we validate the model of -expressdecision-maker-. In addition, we have been able to show the interest of separatingthose who made the decisions and those who must put into service them later.Project manager should not be the one who implement them. The several casestudies have also shown the need of proactive management control in thisorganization.Finally, this work proposes a guide of good practices to improve thedecision-making. The guide keeps the dimension "decision as practice" withmanagerial implications

- Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Through bibliographies by authors specialized in
the issue of the internationalization of firms and statistics that characterize the profile of exporting small and medium enterprises in Portugal. After analyzing the case study, articles and statistical data presented, this work allows us to see how the
internationalization support agencies may have an important contribution throughout the
small and medium enterprises that determined to internationalize themselves through these,
as well as the gains inherent by taking this step.

El trabajo que presentamos a la consideración académica contiene un punto de vista distinto
acerca de las organizaciones campesinas, debido a que algunos investigadores de las
organizaciones campesinas vinculadas con el Estado, han tratado de entender la acción de éstas a
través del concepto de corporativismo.1 Si bien, esto ayuda a entender la simbiosis Estadosociedad
civil rural, no permite captar de qué manera las organizaciones campesinas realizan
cotidianamente esa relación simbiótica. Es por esa razón que hemos preferido cambiar el enfoque
para observar a la organización campesina como un sujeto de acción social.
En tal sentido, nuestro propósito es estudiar de qué manera tiene lugar la acción pública en una
organización campesina particular como es el caso de la Central Campesina Independiente (CCI),
y a la cual hemos conocido poco después de realizar nuestras prácticas de servicio social. A tal
fin hemos retomado uno de los conceptos fundamentales de la sociología: el de acción social y lo
hemos transformado en el de acción pública para enfocar mejor el quehacer de la CCI.
De esta manera, en este trabajo se observa a la CCI como un actor colectivo que se mueve en la
esfera pública siguiendo un plan de acción conforme a estatutos y suministrando suficientes
incentivos para motivar a sus miembros a colaborar y participar en ella. La CCI también es un
actor público que se propone objetivos de poder político. Como se verá, lo característico de su
acción pública es la función de intermediación instancia de gobierno-militancia campesina.

In response to stress, threat or pain, individuals adopt different behavioural and physiological adaptive coping styles. In an animal a model of chronic neuropathic pain, rats show distinct changes social interactions indicative of different styles of coping. In this model, nerve-injured rats develop sensory disturbances, however a sub-population (~30%) display altered social interactions accompanied by neuroendocrine, inflammatory, sleep/wake and neuroanatomical alterations. The hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis and its key effector hormone corticosterone is one mechanism by which this combination of changes could be mediated. Variations in the responsivity of this system correlates with different styles of coping to both stress and nerve-injury, suggesting that the HPA axis could also contribute to the individual differences in coping responses to chronic pain. HPA-axis sensitivity can be programmed by early-life events, and early-life stress (ELS) drives differences in individual responses to stress and pain in adulthood. These observations raise the question whether ELS is an important factor in the development of individual differences in coping responses to a chronic nerve-injury. To test this hypothesis, male Sprague-Dawley rat pups received inflammatory ELS at postnatal D3 and D5. At adulthood, the social interactions of each rat were assessed in the nerve injury, neuropathic pain model. The ELS affected the expression of post-injury social interactions, driving the behaviour of individuals to either extremes of the spectrum of coping responses. Systematic investigation of the key structures of hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis revealed that behavioural coping styles were associated with distinct changes in pituitary and adrenal hormone-receptor levels. A survey of major inputs to the hypothalamus regulating the HPA revealed that ELS alters corticosterone receptors in the amygdala. These data support the view that ELS plays a role in shaping individual differences in coping with chronic pain, via interactions with the HPA and limbic structures.

<p>The purpose of this thesis is to investigate how a multi-national company can adapt its business marketing strategy to emerging markets.</p><p>The research approach of the thesis was a case study of CCI in Turkey and Kazakhstan to see how the company can adapt it international business marketing strategy to conditions of local market.</p><p>The study was done by identifying of the current situation on the emerging markets and the company and by describing external environment and institutional factors within emerging markets. Analysis of current elements of international business marketing strategy and environmental factors that have affected it was done by applying theoretical framework to the case study. The last step was to give recomendations for the company to adapt or standart international business marketing strategy and importance of analyze external enviromental factors for the international business marketing strategy for the emerging markets. Data for the thesis was collected from primary sources through interviews and secondary data through company’s presentations and articles, internet sources.</p><p>The study showed that CCI enters each new market with standard brand portfolio tries to make adaptations of promotion and communication strategies to conductions of local market and to get external fit which will bring competitive and societal advantages for CCI on those markets where company operates. We have identified number of external environmental factors in Kazakhstan that have a certain influence on CCI’s operations. Economical situation has largely affected CCI’s operations and activities in Kazakhstan. This factor directly affects consumption level and purchasing power and behavior of local consumers. The legislation has obviously affected the company as well, resulting in local production. Cultural issues are also influenced CCI operations in Kazakhstan. That expressed through difference in consumption preferences of local consumers, which were directed aside traditional drinks.</p><p>In the end of the thesis some recommendations are given. Among the most important are – to balance between standart brand portfolio and adapt communication and distribution strategies accorging local enviromental factors; to identify which environmental factors can affect the company, which will require adjustments, and which can be influenced by the company; to effort developing personal relationship with customers, distributors, retailers in order to increase the competitive advantage and gain an increased loyalty among them.</p>

Hypoxic regions found in most solid tumors often contain cells which are resistant to various cancer therapies. However, hypoxia also forces cells to rely solely on the catabolism of glucose through glycolysis for ATP production and survival, thereby creating a therapeutic window that can be exploited by glycolytic inhibitors, such as 2-deoxy-D-glucose (2-DG). Previous studies in our lab demonstrated that activation of Hypoxia Inducible Factor (HIF-1) in hypoxic tumor cells confers resistance to glycolytic inhibition by 2-DG. In surveying a number of tumor types for differences in intrinsic levels of HIF-1 alpha under hypoxia, we found that pathways upstream of HIF -- i.e. AKT and mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) -- have significantly reduced activity in 2 human non-small lung cancer cell lines (NSCLC) as compared to 4 small cell lung cancer cell (SCLC) lines. This reduced activity of AKT and mTOR correlated with increased sensitivity to 2-DG under hypoxia. Since HIF-1 alpha translation is regulated by the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR), we examined the effects of blocking mTOR with an analog of rapamycin (CCI-779) in SCLC cells which express high levels of mTOR activity. Under hypoxia, treatment with CCI-779 resulted in HIF-1 alpha down-regulation. Furthermore, CCI-779 potentiated the cytotoxic effects of 2-DG in hypoxic SCLC cells. Conversely, CCI-779 did not increase 2-DG toxicity in NSCLC lines that do not express HIF, SCLC lines treated with siRNA against HIF-1 alpha, or HIF-deficient mutants. These latter results support the hypothesis that, although mTOR modulates numerous downstream pathways, mTOR inhibition by CCI-779 increases the toxicity of 2-DG in hypoxic cells through down-regulation of HIF-1 alpha. Overall, our findings show that CCI-779 hyper-sensitizes HIF-expressing hypoxic tumor cells to 2-DG. Additionally, our results suggest that the intrinsic expression of AKT, mTOR, and HIF in many tumor types may be important predictors of clinical responsiveness to 2-DG and could be used to guide future treatment decisions on whether to use 2-DG alone or in combination with an mTOR inhibitor.

Hållbarhet och ett etiskt förhållningssätt har de senaste decennierna blivit allt viktigare i klädindustrin, vars allt snabbare produktion av varor till låga priser för att möta efterfrågan från konsumenter är ohållbar för samhälle och miljö, exemplifierat i Fast fashion. Men en ökande medvetenhet om sociala och etiska problem hos konsumenter har gett företag anledning att arbeta med socialt ansvarstagande, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), en möjlighet både för ökad lönsamhet och en bättre omvärld. Men trots att klädkonsumenters medvetenhet om sociala och etiska problem ökat, realiseras inte alltid dessa värderingar i handling, där valet av att följa rådande sociala normer och mode inte sällan står i kontrast mot en hållbar konsumtion. I syfte att undersöka CSR i en kontext för klädkonsumtion, har denna studie undersökt konsumenters medvetenhet om, förväntningar på och identitetsskapande med klädföretags CSR. Fortsatt undersöktes samband mellan medvetenhet och förväntningar, inställning samt identitetsskapande i en kontext för CSR. 151 konsumenter av kläder undersöktes i Sverige med en webbenkät, där resultaten visar på en relativt låg medvetenhet om sociala problem och CSR i klädindustrin och en låg grad av konsumenters identitetsskapande med företagen. I linje med den låga medvetenheten visade det sig finnas en stor skillnad i hur mycket information konsumenter får om CSR och hur mycket de önskar få, där konsumenterna önskade få mer information om företags sociala ansvarstagande. I kontrast mot medvetenheten om CSR var förväntningarna på företagens arbete med CSR relativt höga. Konsumenters önskan efter mer information om CSR och deras höga förväntningar ger företag anledning att kommunicera sitt socialt ansvarstagande arbete. Om den låga medvetenheten beror på att företag inte kommunicerar sitt CSR-arbete nog, ett lågt engagemang från konsumenter eller andra faktorer är värt att studera ytterligare, för att identifiera hur marknadsföring kan utvecklas i en kontext för CSR. Denna studie ger insikt i marknadsföring i en kontext för CSR och ämnar utöka forskningen om företags sociala ansvarstagande och kommunikationen av den till konsumenter.

Interference (CCI) and Additive White Gaussian Noise (AWGN) is evaluated and improved. A Non-
Linearly Amplified (NLA) FQPSK modulated signal with the data rate of 1Mb/s and carrier frequency
of 70 MHz is interfered with a sinusoidal signal at different frequencies. As the relative distance of the
center frequency of the Co-channel interference (CCI) changes, different BER are obtained. The effect
of the CCI decreases as the CCI center frequency moves away from the center of the modulated signal.
In order to improve the BER in the presence of the CCI, a hard limited filter is added at the receiver
input. The hard limited filter has a different amplification factor for different signal strength. As a result,
the amplification factor for the CCI, which is normally a weaker signal, is smaller than the actual signal.
This means that the signal is amplified more than the interference and as a result the CCI is suppressed
and the BER rate improves. The results of both simulations and measurements are obtained for different
CCI center frequencies, before and after the improvements.

Land-use and land-cover change (LULCC) impacts local energy and water balance and contributes on global scale to a net carbon emission to the atmosphere. The newly released annual ESA CCI (climate change initiative) land cover maps provide continuous land cover changes at 300 m resolution from 1992 to 2015, and can be used in land surface models (LSMs) to simulate LULCC effects on carbon stocks and on surface energy budgets. Here we investigate the absolute areas and gross and net changes in different plant functional types (PFTs) derived from ESA CCI products. The results are compared with other datasets. Global areas of forest, cropland and grassland PFTs from ESA are 30.4, 19.3 and 35.7 million km(2) in the year 2000. The global forest area is lower than that from LUH2v2h (Hurtt et al., 2011), Hansen et al. (2013) or Houghton and Nassikas (2017) while cropland area is higher than LUH2v2h (Hurtt et al., 2011), in which cropland area is from HYDE 3.2 (Klein Goldewijk et al., 2016). Gross forest loss and gain during 1992-2015 are 1.5 and 0.9 million km(2) respectively, resulting in a net forest loss of 0.6 million km(2), mainly occurring in South and Central America. The magnitudes of gross changes in forest, cropland and grassland PFTs in the ESA CCI are smaller than those in other datasets. The magnitude of global net cropland gain for the whole period is consistent with HYDE 3.2 (Klein Goldewijk et al., 2016), but most of the increases happened before 2004 in ESA and after 2007 in HYDE 3.2. Brazil, Bolivia and Indonesia are the countries with the largest net forest loss from 1992 to 2015, and the decreased areas are generally consistent with those from Hansen et al. (2013) based on Landsat 30 m resolution images. Despite discrepancies compared to other datasets, and uncertainties in converting into PFTs, the new ESA CCI products provide the first detailed long-term time series of land-cover change and can be implemented in LSMs to characterize recent carbon dynamics, and in climate models to simulate land-cover change feedbacks on climate. Al fine di ottimizzare la disponibilità di organi e di migliorare l allocazione dei graft nei pazienti in lista d attesa per trapianto di fegato sono stati messi a punto molteplici indicatori di co-morbidità, tra i quali il Child-Turcotte-Pugh (CTP) e il Model for End-Stage Liver Disease (MELD). Sono stati inoltre effettuati diversi tentativi di messa a punto di modelli in grado di predire con accuratezza l andamento clinico dei pazienti sottoposti a trapianto di fegato, ma nessuno di questi si è dimostrato concretamente applicabile ad eccezione del Charlson Co-Morbidity Index (CCI).
Nel presente studio è stata effettuata un analisi retrospettiva dei dati relativi a 221 riceventi di fegato (compresi i pazienti sottoposti a trapianto di fegato da donatore vivente e i pazienti sottoposti a trapianto multi organo) nel periodo compreso tra Gennaio 2006 e Settembre 2009 presso ISMETT (Istituto del Mediterraneo per i Trapianti e le Terapie ad Alta Specializzazione). L analisi di sopravvivenza ha dimostrato un associazione statisticamente significativa tra il CCI e la riduzione della sopravvivenza post-trapianto (p=0-003). Inoltre la curva di Kaplan-Meier e il test log-rank hanno evidenziato un associazione statisticamente significativa tra la sopravvivenza del graft e il CCI (p=0.039).
L analisi dei dati raccolti evidenzia che lo score CCI rappresenta una metodica facilmente applicabile per la valutazione preoperatoria delle co-morbidità nei candidati a trapianto di fegato. A ciò si associa l evidenza che un elevato CCI score preoperatorio è correlato ad un aumentato rischio di perdita del graft e di morte del paziente dopo trapianto di fegato. Il CCI dovrebbe pertanto essere considerato uno strumento importante per migliorare la cura dei candidati a trapianto di fegato data la sua applicabilità nella gestione del paziente.

La conduite d’une étude multicentrique induit la présence d’une corrélation entre les réponses de sujets issus d’un même centre. Cette corrélation définit l’effet centre et est habituellement quantifiée à l’aide du coefficient de corrélation intraclasse. Nous avons dérivé une formule de taille d’échantillon prenant en compte l’effet centre et montré que le nombre de sujets nécessaire d’un essai multicentrique peut être diminué en fonction de l’importance de cet effet : la corrélation intra-centre des données augmente la puissance des essais multicentriques à randomisation individuelle. Une formule générale du design effect a ensuite été développée pour tout type d’étude multicentrique afin de savoir dans quels cas le schéma multicentrique permet de gagner ou de perdre en puissance. Enfin, nous avons cherché à quantifier l’importance de l’effet centre dans une étude observationnelle prospective, l’étude DESIR : nos résultats montrent que l’effet centre peut être important et représenter jusqu’à 20% de la variabilité totale. Toute étude multicentrique doit être planifiée et analysée en prenant en compte l’effet centre : le calcul du nombre de sujets nécessaire doit être ajusté sur le design effect et l’analyse réalisée au moyen de modèles incluant un effet centre.

Neural stem and progenitor cells (NSPC) can differentiate to neurons and glial cells. NSPC are easily propagated in vitro and are therefore an attractive tool for tissue regeneration. Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a common cause for death and disabilities. A fundamental problem following TBI is tissue loss. Animal studies aiming at cell replacement have encountered difficulties in achieving sufficient graft survival and differentiation. To improve outcome of grafted cells after experimental TBI (controlled cortical impact, CCI) in mice, we compared two transplantation settings. NSPC were transplanted either directly upon CCI to the injured parenchyma, or one week after injury to the contralateral ventricle. Enhanced survival of transplanted cells and differentiation were seen when cells were deposited in the ventricle. To further enhance cell survival, efforts were made to reduce the inflammatory response to TBI by administration of ibuprofen to mice that had been subjected to CCI. Inflammation was reduced, as monitored by a decrease in inflammatory markers. Cell survival as well as differentiation to early neuroblasts seemed to be improved. To device a 3D system for future transplantation studies, NSPC from different ages were cultured in a hydrogel consisting of hyaluronan and collagen. Cells survived and proliferated in this culturing condition and the greatest neuronal differentiating ability was seen in cells from the newborn mouse brain. NSPC were also used in a model of peripheral nervous system injury, and xeno-transplanted to rats where the dorsal root ganglion had been removed. Cells survived and differentiated to neurons and glia, furthermore demonstrating their usefulness as a tool for tissue regeneration.

Il offre non seulement des expositions temporaires mais aussi de nombreuses activités culturelles : cinémas, conférences, concerts, spectacles. Sa collection se compose de 60 000 œuvres, est empruntée auprès des musées du monde entier.Compte tenu de la richesse de la collection, la politique du prêt des œuvres est l'une des stratégies importantes du musée. Dans la perspective d'une étude muséologique, l'analyse de la politique du prêt des œuvres nous paraît des plus pertinentes.La première partie de la thèse met en évidence les mécanismes de la circulation des œuvres et celles des expositions dans un contexte des territoires à l'échelle internationale. La deuxième partie de la thèse décirt la circulation des biens culturels à l'heure de la mondialisation. Under-trellis cover crops have become more prevalent in East Coast grape growing regions through either intentional planting or adoption of native vegetation, to minimize the potential for erosion and to help regulate grapevine size and vigor. These companion crops, however, have sometimes resulted in increased competition for soil nitrogen, leading to decreased vine nitrogen status and berry yeast assimilable nitrogen (YAN). The aim of this study was to determine the effects of different nitrogen fertilization methods applied at varying doses and different times, on vine and berry nitrogen parameters of cover cropped grapevines. The research described herein involved Sauvignon blanc, Merlot, and Petit Manseng grapevines (Vitis vinifera L.) subjected to different sets of nitrogen treatments, and was primarily conducted over two years. There were very few differences in pruning weights, canopy architecture, components of yield, and primary fruit chemistry amongst nitrogen treatments. Sauvignon blanc petiole nitrogen concentration, season-long chlorophyll content index (CCI) values, and berry YAN were most affected by the highest rate of soil nitrogen treatment (60 kg N/ha total split between two calcium nitrate applications at bloom and six weeks post bloom) and foliar fertilization (40 kg N/ha split over seven to nine urea applications); however, the foliar fertilization was most effective at increasing the concentration of certain individual amino acids. Petit Manseng berry YAN at harvest was increased in response to post-véraison foliar applications (10 kg N/ha split between two urea applications), corresponding to an increased concentration of nine amino acids. Merlot berry YAN, petiole nitrogen concentration, and season-long CCI values were most affected by a high rate of soil nitrogen treatment (60 kg N/ha total split between two calcium nitrate applications at bloom and six weeks post bloom) and establishing clover as the under-trellis cover crop. In the normal brain, cells generated in the subventricular zone (SVZ) migrate along the rostral migratory stream (RMS) to the olfactory bulb and cells in the subgranular zone (SGZ) migrate laterally into the granule cell layer of the dentate gyrus. Directed movement of these NS/NPCs is controlled by a variety of factors, and among them the chemoattractant SDF-1 is of particular importance. Studies have identified that the chemokine SDF-1α and its receptor CXCR4 play an important role in guiding cell migration in many types of cells including NS/NPCs. The current study tested if SDF-1 could be delivered through alginate to attract and guide migration of NS/NPCs and its progeny both in vitro and in vivo. Using a Boyden chamber migration assay, we found SDF-1α either added directly in the medium or incorporated into alginate threads was capable of influencing migration of cultured NS/NPCs in a dose-dependent manner. In the in vivo study, when injected directly into the cerebral cortex, SDF-1 showed limited capability in inducing neuroblasts migration off the normal tract to the site of SDF-1 injection. When SDF-1 was delivered via alginate thread to the focal injury site at 2 days post TBI, significantly increased number of migrating neuroblasts derived from the SVZ was observed around the injury site. Increased expression of SDF-1 receptor CXCR4 was observed in the NS/NPCs in the SVZ and around the injury site following TBI. These data suggest that bioactive SDF-1α can be delivered via alginate thread and exogenous delivery of SDF-1α and its interaction with receptor CXCR4 mediates migration of newly generated neurons from the SVZ to the site of injury following TBI. Collectively, our study indicates that SDF-1α could be utilized as a guidance cue for tissue repair following brain injury.

L’expertise apportera les éléments nécessaires à la compréhension de la survenance du dommage. La faute peut revêtir plusieurs contours, mais celle-ci n’est pas exclusive de la possibilité d’indemnisation. Le législateur apporte une facilitation de l’action en indemnisation, par la mise en place de nouvelles instances. Une alternative est ainsi proposée sans pour autant se substituer aux juridictions. Des critères de recevabilité pour l’entrée dans le nouveau dispositif sont prévus, ainsi qu’une possible prise en charge par la solidarité nationale en cas d’accident médical non fautif ou infections nosocomiales graves. Close family members are confronted with the life-threatening condition of the CCI patients and are prone to develop posttraumatic stress disorder affecting their health-related quality of life (HRQL). Main aim of the present study was to investigate patient- and family-related risk factors for posttraumatic stress and decreased HRQL in family members of CCI patients.
METHODS:
In a cross-sectional design nested within a prospective longitudinal cohort study, posttraumatic stress symptoms and quality of life were assessed in family members of CCI patients (n = 83, aged between 18 and 72 years) up to 6 months after transfer from ICU at acute care hospital to post-acute rehabilitation. Patients admitted a large rehabilitation hospital for ventilator weaning. The Posttraumatic Stress Scale-10 and the Euro-Quality of life-5D-3L were applied in both patients and their family members via telephone interview.
RESULTS:
A significant proportion of CCI patients and their family members (14.5 and 15.7 %, respectively) showed clinically relevant scores of posttraumatic stress. Both CCI patients and family members reported poorer HRQL than a normative sample. Factors independently associated with posttraumatic stress in family members were the time following ICU discharge (β = .256, 95 % confidence interval .053-.470) and the patients\' diagnosis of PTSD (β = .264, 95 % confidence interval .045-.453). Perceived satisfaction with the relationship turned out to be a protective factor for posttraumatic stress in family members of CCI patients (β = -.231, 95 % confidence interval -.423 to -.015). Regarding HRQL in family members, patients\' acute posttraumatic stress at ICU (β = -.290, 95 % confidence interval -.360 to -.088) and their own posttraumatic stress 3 to 6 months post-transfer (β = -.622, 95 % confidence interval -.640 to -.358) turned out to be significant predictors.
CONCLUSIONS:
Posttraumatic stress and HRQL should be routinely assessed in family members of CCI patients at regular intervals starting early at ICU. Preventive family-centered interventions are needed to improve posttraumatic stress and HRQL in both patients and their family members.

A preservação química visa proteger a madeira contra quaisquer ações deterioradoras, sejam elas consequências de fenômenos físico-químicos, como a ação do intemperismo, ou de fenômenos biológicos, como os organismos xilófagos. No Brasil, os preservativos mais utilizados nas usinas de preservação são o Arseniato de Cobre Cromatado (CCA) e o Borato de Cobre Cromatado (CCB). Ambos são aplicados na madeira através do processo de vácuo-pressão, método que em tese poderia aumentar a quantidade de defeitos superficiais e diminuir os valores das propriedades físico-mecânicas das madeiras. Atualmente, em decorrência da disponibilização no mercado (devida à implantação de áreas certificadas no Brasil) de espécies de madeira de média a baixa densidade, a questão da necessidade da preservação contra a demanda biológica se constitui em aspecto de fundamental importância para que se garantam as alternativas de oferta desse material para a construção de estruturas, cuja durabilidade seja equivalente à da madeira de espécies de uso consagrado, como Jatobá, Sucupira, Garapa e Itaúba, por exemplo. Neste contexto, o presente trabalho teve como objetivo investigar a influência dos tratamentos com os preservativos CCA e CCB nas propriedades físico-mecânicas das seguintes espécies de madeiras tropicais brasileiras: Simarouba amara (C20), Cedrelinga catenaeformis (C30) e Erisma uncinatum Warm (C40), escolhidas na tentativa de abranger as três classes de resistência mais baixas, de acordo com o que prescreve a ABNT NBR 7190:1997. Foi realizada a caracterização completa de cada espécie nos três tipos de tratamento (Sem tratamento – Ref; CCA; CCB) para posterior aplicação do teste de comparações múltiplas de Tukey, avaliado ao nível de 5% de significância. Para avaliar o comportamento dos preservativos a nível celular, foram geradas fotomicrografias por Microscopia Eletrônica de Varredura (MEV) e seus respectivos espectros de EDS. Os resultados obtidos mostraram que ambos os tratamentos químicos não afetaram significativamente os valores das propriedades físico-mecânicas das espécies estudadas.<br>The chemical preservation aims to protect the wood against any deteriorating actions, be they consequences of physical-chemical phenomena, such as weathering, or biological phenomena, such as xylophagous organisms. In Brazil, the most used preservatives in the preservation plants are Chromated Copper Arsenate (CCA) and Chromated Copper Borate (CCB). Both are applied to the wood through the vacuum-pressure process, which in theory could increase the amount of surface defects and decrease the values of the physical-mechanical properties of the wood. This has inspired an increasing call for shopping centres landlords to play a substantial role in community development. This study explores the relationship between shopping centres landlords and the communities in which they reside-in with regards to corporate social responsibilities. The study is based on the premise that Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives are seen as mandatory by shopping centres landlords as to ask what their contributions are to achieving sustainable development and improving the lives of people living in the local communities. In this regard, the study examines the role that shopping centres landlords play in bringing development to their various communities through CSR. The focus is on three shopping centres: Empangeni Sanlam Centre, Esikhawini Mall and Richards Bay Boardwalk Inkwazi Shopping Centre within uThungulu District Municipality. Relational theory and transactional model theory are used to develop a model for shopping centres landlords to embrace CSR as a tool to community development. This study employs a survey method which was conducted among the management of the centres and residents of Empangeni, Esikhawini and Richards Bay. The results of the study indicate that CSR initiatives embarked upon by shopping centres landlords through their management team are not communicated to the local community residents. This brings a gap in communication between the landlords and the local community residents. The practical implications of this finding showed that the model proposed for this study is promising in solving communication problem hindering CSR initiatives implementation.

Background
Fatigue often occurs as long-term complication in chronically critically ill (CCI) patients after prolonged intensive care treatment. The Multidimensional Fatigue Inventory (MFI-20) has been established as valid instrument to measure fatigue in a wide range of medical illnesses. Regarding the measurement of fatigue in CCI patients, the psychometric properties of the MFI-20 have not been investigated so far. Thus, the present study examines reliability and validity of the MFI-20 in CCI patients.
Methods
A convenience sample of n = 195 patients with Critical Illness Polyneuropathy (CIP) or Myopathy (CIM) were recruited via personal contact within four weeks (t1) following the transfer from acute care ICU to post-acute ICU at a large rehabilitation hospital. N = 113 (median age 61.1 yrs., 72.6% men) patients were again contacted via telephone three (t2) and six (t3) months following the transfer to post-acute ICU. The MFI-20, the Euro-Quality of Life (EQ-5D-3 L) and the Structured Clinical Interview for the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of mental disorders DSM-IV (SCID-I) were applied within this prospective cohort study.
Results
The internal consistency Cronbach’s α was adequate for the MFI-total and all but the subscale Reduced Motivation (RM) (range: .50–.91). Item-to-total correlations (range: .22–.80) indicated item redundancy for the subscale RM. Confirmatory Factor analyses (CFAs) revealed poor model fit for the original 5-factor model of the MFI-20 (t2/t3, Confirmatory Fit Index, CFI = .783/ .834; Tucker-Lewis Index, TLI = .751/ .809; Root Mean Square Error of Approximation, RMSEA = .112/ .103). Among the alternative models (1-, 2-, 3-factor models), the data best fit to a 3-factor solution summarizing the highly correlated factors General −/ Physical Fatigue/ Reduced Activity (GF/ PF/ RA) (t2/ t3, CFI = .878/ .896, TLI = .846/ .869, RMSEA = .089/ .085, 90% Confidence Interval .073–.104/ .066–.104). The MFI-total score significantly correlated with the health-related quality of life (range: −.65-(−).66) and the diagnosis of major depression (range: .27–.37).
Conclusions
In the present sample of CCI patients, a reliable and valid factor structure of the MFI-20 could not be ascertained. Especially the subscale RM should be revised. Since the factors GF, PF and RA cannot be separated from each other and the unclear factorial structure in the present sample of CCI patients, the MFI-20 is not recommended for use in this context.

Previous issue date: 1990<br>Resumo: Foram analisados os prontuários de 398 pacientes picados por escorpiões das espécies T. bahiensis (58,05%) e T. serrulatus (10,3%), e por aranhas do gênero Phoneutrta (31,75%), atendidos no CCI-HC-UNICAHP, no período de janeiro de 1984 a julho de 1988, com objetivo de avaliar as principais diferenças clínicas e epidemiológicas dos acidentes determinados por esses animais. Constatou-se que a maioria dos acidentes ocorreu dentro das residências, havendo diferenças entre os agentes quando analisou-se a distribuição quanto aos meses do ano, períodos do dia e geográfica, na Região Administrativa de Campinas. Os limites de idade variaram de 3 meses a 85 anos, e a faixa etária mais acometida, dividida em intervalos de 5 anos, foi de crianças com até 10 anos de idade. Predominaram os acidentes no sexo masculino, e, quanto ao segmento anatômico picado, verificou-se que a maioria ocorreu nas extremidades, sendo os determinados por escorpiões principalmente nas mãos e pela Phoneutría sp nos pés. Quanto à sintomatologia, foram mais freqüentes os sintomas locais, principalmente a dor. Serralus-10,3%) or Phoneutria sp spider sting (31,7), from January 1984 to July 1988, were analysed in order to evaluate the clinical and epidemiological differences among the accidents caused by the these animals. It was found that the majority of the accidents occurred inside the residence, and that the three agents behaved differently when geographical, monthly and diurnal distribution of the accidents was considered. The age of the patients varied from 3 month to 85 years. The accidents occurred preferentially in children up to 10 years of age and in male patients. Host of the accidents involved the extremities , mainly the hands when caused by scorpions and the feet when Phoneutrta sp was the agent. As to the clinical picture, local symptoms were more frequent specially local pain. Vineyards in the Eastern United States are often prone to excessive vegetative growth. In order to suppress excessive vine vigor, many viticulturists have employed cover cropping strategies. Cover crops provide a myriad of agronomic benefits, however they are known to compete with the vine for water and nutrients. Due to the widespread use of cover crops in Eastern vineyards, many vineyards experience nitrogen (N) deficiencies in both the vegetative vine tissue and yeast assimilable nitrogen (YAN) in the juice. Soil applications of calcium nitrate and foliar applications of urea were assessed as a means of vineyard N amelioration at cover cropped sites comprised of Petit Manseng and Sauvignon blanc (Vitis vinifera L.). Perennial White and Crimson clover cover crops and foliar urea applications were also used in a Vidal blanc (Vitis spp.) vineyard. Treatments were imposed in the Sauvignon blanc vineyard for five years. The Petit Manseng and Vidal blanc vineyards were subjected to treatments for two years. Soil-applied N at bloom was most effective at increasing leaf petiole N at véraison, season-long chlorophyll content index (CCI), vine capacity and fruit yield. Fruit yield was increased due to more berries per cluster and greater berry weights. Increased rates of soil-applied N decreased the fruit weight:pruning weight ratio. Foliar-applied N after fruit set was most effective at increasing berry YAN. While most of the measured amino acids in fruit increased in concentration with the application of either soil or foliar N, foliar applications were more effective at increasing fruit amino acids. Clover cover crops offered little to no benefit as a N source in the two-year period of evaluation. None of the N management schemes negatively impacted canopy density, fruit zone light interception, or botrytis bunch rot incidence. A prática da arbitragem comercial internacional tem se deparado, há pelos menos quatro décadas, com a problemática da extensão da cláusula compromissória a uma parte não-signatária, integrante do mesmo grupo de sociedades a que pertence uma das partes integrantes da convenção, em razão do comportamento adotado pela parte não-signatária nas fases de negociação do contrato, execução ou extinção. Nesse sentido, a prática da Corte Internacional de Arbitragem da Câmara de Comércio Internacional dos últimos trinta anos e reiteradas decisões judiciais em países de diferentes tradições jurídicas como a França, Suíça e Estados Unidos têm se manifestado favoravelmente a essa extensão subjetiva da convenção de arbitragem. O estudo da doutrina nacional e da jurisprudência do Superior Tribunal de Justiça sobre os grupos de sociedades e seus efeitos, e a análise detida de diversos precedentes do Superior Tribunal de Justiça e do Supremo Tribunal Federal sobre a homologação de sentenças arbitrais estrangeiras, revelam a compatibilidade da referida prática arbitral internacional com o ordenamento jurídico brasileiro.<br>The possibility of extending an arbitration clause so that it binds a non-signatory company which is a member of the same corporate group as one of the signatories, on the basis of the conduct of said non-signatory during the negotiation, performance and termination of the contract, has been an issue in international commercial arbitration for the past three decades. The precedents of the International Arbitration Court of the International Chamber of Commerce during the past thirty years, and judicial decisions in countries such as France, Switzerland and the United States have been favorable to the extension of the arbitral convention to non-signatories. Analysis of the work of Brazilian legal commentators and the case law of the Superior Court of Justice relating to the group of companies doctrine [teoria dos grupos de sociedades], as well as analysis of several precedents of both the Superior Court of Justice and the Federal Supreme Court on the recognition of foreign arbitral awards, indicates that the international arbitration practice of the ICC on the extension of the arbitral agreement to non-signatories is compatible with the Brazilian legal system.

This thesis examines the evolution of international humanitarian concern
culminating in adoption of a Convention on Cluster Munitions (CCM) banning these
weapons in May 2008. It is based on systematic analysis of official documents,
extensive interviews, participant-observation, and several bodies of international
relations (IR) theory.
Part I explains the research methodology and discusses the theoretical context
for the thesis. It is argued that several core assumptions of rationalist-materialist
approaches to IR theory impede understanding of the CCM¿s emergence, and thus the
thesis adopts an interpretivist framework. The four chapters of Part II analyse
international efforts on cluster munitions including prior, failed attempts to restrict
cluster munitions, the emergence of an international campaign from 2003, ensuing
activity involving states, international organisations and civil society, and the CCM¿s
eventual negotiation involving more than 100 states.
Part III marries this empirical account to theoretical analysis of four thesis
propositions. It is concluded that non-state actor-engendered processes of evidence
collection and analysis, learning and frame alignment were central to the Oslo process¿s
emergence. The Oslo Declaration¿s particular humanitarian framing (to ban cluster
munitions causing unacceptable harm to civilians) and the structure of the subsequent
¿define-and-ban¿ discourse permitted convergence between states over prohibiting
these weapons. Nevertheless, they contain implications for other international efforts
aimed at controlling means of armed violence.
